I totally agree. They did add a nice feature in iOS 18 called scenes… But I have so many Freeform boards that folders would be a great asset. Especially if I can share an entire folder with my collaborators.
Glad you got value out of it! I use Freeform for all sorts of planning and organizing projects both at home and at work... Have you started using it? What are some of the projects you've created with it?
This is the best video I’ve seen explaining Freeform. I’m really excited to use it now. Following for future videos as it’s so easy to follow your instructions.
I'm glad you liked it. I'm working on a new free-form video now, since they made some changes in Mac OS 15 and iOS 18 that really benefit the program. Let me know if there's other things you'd like to learn about.
It's fantastic, you are really a professional master. I saw many video about Freeform and all are alike, showing funny drawings. You instead enter into precious details about how to operate with hit, lines, crop, etc. Thank you for your excellent job, indeed your video is precious. (I am using freeform now to build a genealogical tree and I have over 280 small boxes with names and dates, and it was confused, now I know how to properly connect and align these boxes. Again thanks from the bottom of my heart.
Hi my friend. Another awesome presentation. It made me revisit Freeform and actually USE IT. Good to hear from you again. Still cold here about 6 to 9 above during the day but 0 to 1 Celsius at night. Hawaiian shirts? NOT YET. ANYWAY, Stay safe Sincerely BB “Hawaiian shirt guy” Take care 👍👕💕
Great video, thanks. When saving an insert style it doesn't seem to display the item as you set it up (red shirt with thicker lines in your example). Why is that? How do you know what you are inserting on your board? Seems better if it gave you a USER option that contained all your styles. Also the saved style didn't store your entered text. Any way to make it save that too?
The insert style is meant to help you start with certain preferences (although I wish it would allow more customizations, and hope they improve it in future updates). It's not intended to replicate the words since it is rare you would use the same words againa nad again. Rememebr that you can easily clone any shape (or other object) by holding the option button and dragging any item.. which is one of my favorite functions on the app!
I got GREAT value from this video! WOW, Dylan! just wow... You explained the features so smoothly, and clearly! Now... 2 questions - 1. Output? How do I collaborate with this tool? How do I use this tool, when collaborating with folks NOT using this tool? (like on Windows machines? - HOW COOL would it be if windows, or some other app, made it possible to take freeform's output and make it accessible on android or windows? :-0 2. WHERE can I use it? Seriously... where can I use freeform in my day to day? Gotta ponder this one! Thanks again Dylan - GREAT video!
There aren't a lot of ways (yet) to collaborate with Non-Apple Users (but I wouldn't be surprised if they add Freeform to iCloud.com in the future), but if you sit tight I will be releasing part 2 to this video in the next few days with specific examples about how to collaborate and export your boards, and 6 examples of real-world uses for the app... so STAY TUNED!!!!
@@ClayGreen At this time ⏰, there is no easy 😓 way to do that. It's nice 🌟 to be in the Apple 🍏 ecosystem, and I wish ✨ EVERYONE was there too, but there are some things 🚧 that can't be done cross-platform 🔄... I'm just glad 😃 WE are in the system 🌐 together. You'll just have to use lesser 📉 (and sometimes more expensive 💸) mind mapping 🧠/white board tools 🛠 for those poor 😔 unfortunate souls on the outside... or convince them 🤝 to join us in the garden 🌳🤷♂.
Excellent video and excellent presentation, but I'm not sure when I might have use for this. I make Pages docs like this... you can put a website, image, shape, chart, etc on Pages. I teach online so Pages docs work well because I can file them on external hard drives and keep organized. What sort of doc is this Freeform? How do I download it and save it and can I use it on my laptop which is not Ventura (because it is old and won't update to Ventura)?
It depends on how quickly you catch it. If it's quick enough, you can usually hit undo. If you wait too long, it autosaves..., but if you have it synched to iCloud, there are some automatic backups made...
Can you link one board to another? I was thinking king of setting up a home, or index, board and linking subsequent boards for different projects to it.
I have so many boards - is there a way to manually organize them? I do see groups but that only groups them by dates. I’d actually like to create my own folders or groups
Apple has not yet added folders. I expect they will soon. Until then there's not a lot we can do for organization 🤷♂️. I hoped it would happen with iOS 17 and MacOS14, but unfortunately they haven't added it yet.
One major issue with Freeform: How does one create a category to store different boards. For example: there is a Shared, favorites etc category on the left, but If I want to group all my boards under my own category name, you cant?
Not yet. It's still a pretty new program and unfortunately they haven't given us the ability to group boards in our own folders... yet. Maybe in iOS 19?
Apple released Freeform with iOS 16. As long as you have that operating system it should automatically show up on your device or you can download it from the app store... if you can't find it, it is likely because of your OS. Upgrade if you can, and if not you will have to wait until your next iPhone.... sorry!
very good presentation, thanks for that. You helped me coming quickly to the conclusion that it is not the software for me as it lacks structure or proportionality Don’t know how to explain this properly but I got lost on this big brainstorm whiteboard which I have to approach via the 10/20 times smaller screen of a laptop / iPad or iphone), it lacks folders, no line or raster backgrounds, different function entries etc. Although the feel and looks are promising, especially with the blue bg😊) I don’t think this app will really fly.. It would be nice if Apple brings some of the much better functionalities in notes. I will stop my Notability subscription immediately .
Freeform is a brand new app, and it's got a long way to go. It's a good basic whiteboard, but it lacks some basic organizational tools. I'm sure they will add them over time. If you're dealing with something visually, it's way better than Notes. That being said, I love Notes, and between the new audio recording functions, the Apple Pencil, and other tools, it' beats Notability hands-down.
The Freeform app can be used to organize things visually. By watching this video and the second one, you can learn how to map things out on a whiteboard rather than doing it in notes or reminders. Certainly, organizing your life may be a bit of hyperbole, but it can certainly be an asset and a tool to help you organize several parts of your life. Sorry the title didn't resonate with you.
