    The tapestry is wonderful. Since it's so close to a window you might consider getting UV coating for the window to protect the colors. Those old dyes were natural and fairly fragile. It's in amazing condition for its age and worth preserving.

    I agree with the others. The tapestry does need properly installation & would look best moved to other side of entrance - where the bar currently sits. Another note - I’m typically an asymmetrical person, but as the curved window is a focal point with identical windows either side - this room is symmetrical and I believe the sofa may look best centred in the room as you at one point positioned it. Leaving more space to appreciate either the bar or tapestry (whichever your final decision may be for that side of entry). The drapes are perfection!!! Love the table, rug choice and color. Looking forward to final reveal 💙

  • @pennybowen2725
    @pennybowen2725 Год назад +19

    I absolutely love the tapestry, but it shouldn’t be on the wall you put it on. With the wood beams , it makes it not straight it just doesn’t do it justice where it is. Maybe you should’ve put some sort of board under it at the top of the wall and used some clamps like they had in the store where you bought it from in it’s place of the Velcro or whatever that was you used.

  • @mersammut1228

    Hey Drew just keep in mind that over time the sunlight may damage the tapestry since it's so close to the window. The other thing I was thinking about is to hand the tapestry by a rod to have it more straight up top and then let gravity pull it down, I think it would make it look for expensive:) Love the style and vibe of this room

    Drew please show this video to the seller of your tapestry and ask him about the amount of natural light in this room and how it will damage your tapestry. My mom was an antique dealer who sold out of our house. From the outside the house appeared as a 50’s ranch, but inside it was an 18th century museum, camera ready at all times. (She was in a number of magazines in the ‘80’s). A number of the windows in every room were walled over to prevent sun damage to delicate fabrics of 200 years+ still in use on beds and walls and floors. Your tapestry probably hung in a dark castle in Europe for a few hundred years and that’s why it’s in such pristine shape. Love your house and I am so happy for you having so much fun with it.

    Drew I have to agree with Sue Cox below. The direct sunlight is very detrimental to the old natural dyes. I love where it is hanging but consider adding a rod pocket on the back that will hold a rod to hang it from and attach to actual rod to hangars on the wall or ceiling so that the weight is evenly distributed. This will keep the woven fibers of the carpet from becoming distorted. We certainly do not need to know the $$ of the tapestry but considering the age and the condition, and the fact that at even 2/3's less of original price was still pricey, you want to keep the value and condition from any deterioration into the future.
    Love the room so far. The couch reminds me of marshmallows squished together YUM!

    I love the tapestry and how old it is, but it deserves more love from you. I think you should sew some loops or a channel to the top and hang it from a dowel stick or drapery rod with pretty finials on the ends. That way, it's straight across the top and not saging in places. It's like a crooked picture on the wall. Sewing the loops can be undone and won't hurt it, but the adhesive on those straps might, especially if they aren't archival quality. Over time the straps will pull at the weave and maybe damage it. I love your ideas. The bookcases with tipped shelves to display books was genius. ❤

    I have dreamt of having a house with stone walls and a tapestry just like that one. I would have placed it on a larger wall though. I’m not entirely convinced by it being paired with that couch or that console, which are beautiful, by the way. I love round edges. And I was relieved this time not everything was brown, beige, tan or terracotta. 😅

    Attach 4 binding strips vertically to bottom back of rug (about 12”) evenly. Run a cord through each strip to have the rug gently gathered along the bottom and off the floor, so that it can drop down evenly underneath the beam.

    I like "the lounge." The lobby is a kind of transient space, with connotations of a wait space-think hospitals, airports, office buildings. You can do a lot to make the spaces more comfortable and appealing, as they do in upscale hotels, etc. But it is really just a place to wait. The Lounge is a destination spot. But in Drew’s house, it is a place to meet clients and friends. It’s a place for cocktails, laughter, and warm fuzzies. Which will leave the space all the better if you meet clients there. "Drew’s Lounge," where function and feeling all have a place.

    I love that you use so many natural woods etc. So we are old. My partner of 10 years still had his 70s furniture when we met! I think some is back in style. He had bought more quality 70s. I was downsized 3 times by crashing economy. One way to clean out. But I never bought a lot of chatsky. My main decor item is plants and photos. HIs wife that passed was a potter and taught classes in high school. So we saved and put out all her pottery. We have all basic warm toned wood and nuetral fabrics. Our retirement purchase has a peaked pine ceiling inside, 64 foot long with 8 trusses and a 64 foot peaked skylight too. All who visit do what we did viewing it the first time. Stare up with mouth open. But with all the light and our natural woods just went with pretty much neutral pallet.The walls were painted a grayish green. It changes with different light during the day. I follow a lot of DIY channels but they are mainly in midwest and a lot of what they do is farmhouse chippy white etc. I dont mind the look. It just doesnt seem California. We are now 3 hours north east of Los Angels. I grew up in Orane County. I also sew for most of my life. I make a lot for our home and my clothing but still dot h at nuetral pallet. We did a lot of esthetic upgrades. It was built by artist in 93 but some things like the bathroom totaly not in code and some seemed unfinished. We added a pine bartop tothe separating wall of the kitchen. Now down to the almost acre lot!

    Likes: The curtains, and the length of them is so perfect! The console storage table "bar" - its style and color of the wood is timeless and could fit in with just about any kind of design. The tapestry, but it is not hanging straight, the ceiling beam is inhibiting it from being pulled up on the wall high enough to not lap a little bit on the floor.

    Here is a great tip for you for hanging rugs in tapestries on the wall. Take wall-to-wall carpet strips and nail the little braids into the wall with the nails facing upwards. You can gently push your tapestry against the tiny little nails and the evenly distribute the weight and won’t hurt your rugs or tapestry. We do this all the time with our native American Navajo rugs.

    I know you were so anxious to show us the tapestry (good job keeping it a secret!) but please listen to some of the expert comments here - the tapestry is spoiled by not being hung professioally with the proper backing and trying to cram it into a space too small for it. Moving it across the doorway might help (not to forget mentioning proper backing for the top) but it may not even belong in this room at all. It's truly one of your best finds for this home and deserves a space where it can provide the best view and the most supportive environment.

    I’ve hung very large hand made needlepoints which are finished by a professional with ribbing and tassels and finished on the back using a wood plank with heavy duty wide velcro on the board and velcro on the needlepoint. It’s easy to level and hangs without buckling or causing the tapestry to become out of shape. If I could post a photo I would so you could see. Aside from that I love the sofa and the curtains. And the length of the curtains is just perfect as well. The shape of that large window is beautiful too.
