- UPDATE: I realised that the image shown at 09:07 is actually Jay Wearden, not DJ Moggy. I got the names mixed up in the document I wrote the video in. The fact about the interview where he hasn't DJ'd is referring to Jay Wearden. Sorry!
This is a video about a lesser-known Leyland James Kirby (V/VM, The Caretaker) project - 'The Death Of Rave' - a gargantuan, 10+ hour album devoted to the disappointment and decline Kirby felt with the rave scene following the late 80s and mid 90s.
The project received an edit in 2014, with a handpicked selection of 8 tracks named after Kirby's memories of those days. In this video I dive into the story behind the album, the names of the tracks, and the experience Kirby takes us on.

Great video essay. I think more people should also shed light on Kirby's other works that he's done over the many years he's been active so that it sheds some light on the fact that it's not just EATEOT he put a ton of effort into and that has an intricate story and meaning behind it.
Fully agree, his back catalogue really is a rich well of stories
Damn. Why so little views? This is amazing. Nice to hear videos that talk about Kirby's other albums.
it's sad seeing all those historical clubs being demolished, maybe I don't know the context as to why they were demolished but it is sad regardless.
I found (with some help) the samples to the first 48 songs on the source. I am made a playlist with all the songs.
For example, Monroe's Stockport uses 28, which samples Dave Angel - Original Man
I’m quite shocked that you were able to track down some of the source information regarding the titles to the tracks. I must say though I wished you also talked about the creation of “The Death of Rave” as being part of the 365 project (that I am in the process of dissecting). From July 2006 to September 2006, Kirby was essentially working nonstop on this project and the final project (both the source and its additional counterpart) clocking in at 19+ hours.
Also, in regards to Acid Alan, I would like to add that Acid Alan was the one who gave Kirby information regarding the music that played during all those nights and Kirby sought to collect all the music that was used during that time.
Overall a fairly inciting video and I would love to see some coverage of V/Vm Test Records as I don’t think it gets much love, and with most of its past either erased or archived through hundreds of Wayback Machine pages and dusty memories of those who were following the label while it was still alive.
This was quite the title + thumbnail combination. I just couldn’t resist.
I’m glad someone actually talked about one of Kirby’s other projects
Counting both the source and additional makes the death of rave 19 hours long
he's back lads
