You whippersnappers cry about 1.5x critical hit damage, we had 2.0x critical hit damage that could kill us like cars without seat belts. Standards for critical hits were higher back then. Venusaur and Victreebel were the OGs, not even OUs when they started out, and they invented OU Meowscarada and its 100% critical Flower Tricks. They didn't use performance-enhancers to dope their offensive stats in competition, the base power of their critical moves, nor min-max their speed stat above the competition with athletic scarfs, nor even change the entire natural personality they were born with for a competitive advantage. Any Pokémon with a Base Speed higher than 64 with a high-crit attack could replicate this common trick in the good old days. Venusaur and Victreebel's only mildly useful tool to take advantage was old-fashioned Sleep, which triggered new-gen Smogon so much that it is now banned. Kingler's 100%* critical STAB Crabhammers were barely good enough for NU, let alone OU. The mountain lion Persians we wrestled with our bare hands had guaranteed* critical Slashes, in UU, in a generation where Normal types ruled, when we only had a single option for a fully-evolved Ghost, a few Pet Rocks that disintegrated immediately when they didn't get off my wet, freshly-cut lawn, and no safe spaces with Steel types. We had to play outside with other kids and got our knees skinned by constant Slashes from parasitic mushrooms, hedgehogs, underground mole trios faster than horses, resurrected trilobites with giant scythes for hands, giant praying mantises with scythes for hands, demonic stag beetles with giant twin horns, fire-breathing flying lizards (not to be confused with dragons, which wrapped their bodies around opponents to a slow death), and terrestrial flying ducks wielding large leek-swords that were more funny than dangerous. But high level and beyond that a powerful mon Volcarona is the first and shiny black Haxorus is the second at level 60 iirc. Nice video I love gen 5 is the my favorite gen bether than the soul silver
It's one of those "suffers in stats because zero weaknesses" mons. Spiritomb and Sableye had the same problem, though now they also have a weakness thanks to the Fairy type. None of these pokemon do enough damage or soak enough damage to be useful, though I was able to use Pain Split Spiritomb on a competitive team for awhile despite that.
Gen 5 is one of my favorites too. I like how different it feels since the dex is all new. I know some of the things I love about the generation were reasons people didn't like it when it came out, but I think particularly with the formula being so similar in the other 8 generations now the difference makes it shine a bit more. Would love to see more gen 5! Can you beat the game with just a Cottonee?
If you're gonna do challenges like this, you should allow yourself infinite master balls. Like, you don't even show yourself catching the pokemon, and it's already zero EXP. Once you find what you want, you should just have it. Like, what if you wanted to use... Cresselia or something? I dunno. If you're happy, I'm happy. Great strats as always!
59:00 Funnily enough, Volcarona destroys Cynthia's team in this game. She leads Spiritomb and spams sucker punch, so you just set up 6 quiver dances and win.
Yay, gen 5! These games were my childhood. I want to see more challenges done with Black/White. I even did a Joltik run myself, where I needed to get to level 96, just to get a 1 in ~70 chance to beat the final N battle.
These games are some of my favorites in the series. So happy to see a tough challenge getting some love here. Can’t wait for the opinionated Gen. 1 solo challenge tier list.
Yep, the eye sound for Deino is correct, seeing as it's based on eins, zwei, drei, (vier, funf, sechs, etc...) and dino/deino from dinosaur and deinosuchus (deino being ancient greek for fear inducing).
This was a nice surprise! The reason Gen 5 runs are so rare is because of the EXP system not favouring solo challenges, so may as well just get rid of experience altogether right? I'd be interested to see Sinnoh also make a rare appearance in your runs. Sadly I don't think minimum battles will be as fun for you as previous games, but this particular challenge is arguably the most interesting one, so I'd definitely be up for that. If you do, note that the E4 and champion are higher level in DP than in Platinum
Having tried my own solo challenge with the Snivy line in BW2... I don't think the game really hurts you that way. I mean, sure, weak Pokémon are going to have an AWFUL time because overleveling is more difficult, but the game does give you a Lucky Egg for free halfway-through... (and BW2 gives you Return and the Silk Scarf before the second gym). If there's a game I think will heavily discourage solo challenges is Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, because the bosses are really strong for mainline Pokémon standards.
If Jrose11 would be willing to use the Universal randomizer, he could deactivate the EXP system and make the game use the old base experience point system.
@@Lebon19 I wouldn’t be against that at all, in my opinion that isn’t really cheating, it’s just adjusting the game to be the same as the others for challenges to make them more fun to do and give him extra variety.
I thought this might be harder in the late game due to gen 5's insane evo levels, but all the options in later gens make setting up a lot more viable as well Love all things gen 5, so if it helps make vids more enjoyable/efficient to produce there's an AR code that forces shaking grass/water/cave spawns with a button press. I'm assuming that's where a lot of your team building time went into (especially for some of the 5% spawns like Sawk/Stoutland) and it's an absolute life saver for these games.
Always enjoy the strategy in these! Minor optimisation note: a Limber Liepard would have been slightly better for the Eliza fight so we dont get bothered by Static
Great run! You absolutely obliterated the game - even all the optional fights! Man, Volcarona is super F'ing OP. I believe that thing was OU in Gen5 competitive. Might be even Uber level? All thanks to Quiver Dance ofc. Only a very small list of pokemon can learn besides Volcarona: - Venomoth (heh - doesn't help it), - Bellossom (Interesting. Could give Bellossom some interesting use in leagues such as UU) - Masquerain (Intimidate helps it but still too weak to use it) - Lilligant (that's actually pretty good; would hit like a truck with its 110 sp.a and okay-ish 90 speed) - Vivillion (Naaaaah) - Cutiefly and Ribombee (too bad Ribombee is so frail and has so much weaknesses, it's pretty fast and could easily sweep with an ok 95 sp.a. Shield Dust could help... kinda? Nah.) - Frosmoth (Ice version of Volcarona with... 2 x4 weaknesses and way too slow to setup a sweep) - Oricorio (By breeding. Oricorio has too much of a shallow movepool even throughout its forms) So yeah, a limited move for a very good reason.

Man, well done on these high profile sponsors lately. You've earned this success.
Just what I needed to sleep like a newborn. Thanks man, love your content
My fav Generation, loved a lot of the QoL and just general upgrades to the games, infinite TM's being the big one.
Eelektross was always such a beast when id battle against it but when I finally had one for myself on my black 2 team it was a pushover
Can you beat the game with just a Cottonee?
i feel your pain man. That Bianca battle before the tubline bridge is the absolute worst. it took me so long and i could overlevel my pokemon
Chugga starting his shorts debut is something im gonna binge and i already know it
Been waiting for this one, blessed with a 1 hour video
Great video! Loved the effort you put in and how you showed losses.
Love that my favorite Pokemon (Volcarona) comes into play. It's such a beast.
This was very cool to see in action! I always love the no exp series, but some of these battles were super creative!
That Ghetsis fight was genius, loved seeing this done!
59:00 Funnily enough, Volcarona destroys Cynthia's team in this game. She leads Spiritomb and spams sucker punch, so you just set up 6 quiver dances and win.
I'd watch DJ Rosey-Rose do solo challenges in Persona games
Strategy over op pokemon anyday
Yay, gen 5! These games were my childhood. I want to see more challenges done with Black/White. I even did a Joltik run myself, where I needed to get to level 96, just to get a 1 in ~70 chance to beat the final N battle.
That's very impressive. I've always wanted to do a solo Pichu run on Black 2 Challenge Mode. But I'm not that brave 😂
thank you for uploading so often whenever I see your updates I already know it's gonna be a good day
These games are some of my favorites in the series.
I like how you fought ghetisis I know some may critique that strat but not using legendary and seeing how you countered him taught me something
Man that is a hell of a sponsor!
"Fivever" killed me 🤣
This is the first sponsor in years where I'm actually interested!
Bulldoze doesnt hit underground, only earthquake, magnitude and fissure hit underground with earthquake and magnitude dealing double damage
Fissure makes them faint twice
@@emisor9272 lol
Tell me you pirated pokemon BW without telling me you pirated pokemon BW, the challenge
Fun fact: Bulldoze does not in fact hit targets that are using dig, despite how it looks
I was not ready for those Volcarona victory laps 😂
I was really hoping to see if you'd try to catch that 1% encounter Dragonite from fishing in the dragon tower.
I thought this might be harder in the late game due to gen 5's insane evo levels, but all the options in later gens make setting up a lot more viable as well
Love all things gen 5, so if it helps make vids more enjoyable/efficient to produce there's an AR code that forces shaking grass/water/cave spawns with a button press. I'm assuming that's where a lot of your team building time went into (especially for some of the 5% spawns like Sawk/Stoutland) and it's an absolute life saver for these games.
"Cofagrigus's Mummy" sounds like the Pokémon version of a "Yo Mama" joke
I’ve been having the worst day! This video legit means so much to me right now! Thank you!! ♥️♥️♥️
I love the vids jrose! Hope you have a great Friday
Opened up youtube with my chipotle burrito ready to eat. Needless to say I was hyped to see this video in my sub box
love that persona is sponsoring pokemon channels
Wow! You got sponsored by persona 3? Way to make me jealous JRose! Gratz
Nice to see awesome Pokemon like Volcarona and Metagross really shine in the post-game.
hey jrose! you inspired me to do a solo run, being pokemon emerald, and using porygon!
Always enjoy the strategy in these!
Minor optimisation note: a Limber Liepard would have been slightly better for the Eliza fight so we dont get bothered by Static
Yes. Time to compare the run to smallant
Smallant uses legendaries though, and usually items too
(Not that I have a problem with that. I love Smant's content as well as JRose's)
Persona 3 is literally my favorite game, I’m so hype for the remake.
Awesome video as always ❤
I remember reading a guide on how to cheese the entire post game elite 4 with Volcarona and Altaria, all without training
Great run! You absolutely obliterated the game - even all the optional fights! Man, Volcarona is super F'ing OP. I believe that thing was OU in Gen5 competitive. Might be even Uber level? All thanks to Quiver Dance ofc. Only a very small list of pokemon can learn besides Volcarona:
- Venomoth (heh - doesn't help it),
- Bellossom (Interesting. Could give Bellossom some interesting use in leagues such as UU)
- Masquerain (Intimidate helps it but still too weak to use it)
- Lilligant (that's actually pretty good; would hit like a truck with its 110 sp.a and okay-ish 90 speed)
- Vivillion (Naaaaah)
- Cutiefly and Ribombee (too bad Ribombee is so frail and has so much weaknesses, it's pretty fast and could easily sweep with an ok 95 sp.a. Shield Dust could help... kinda? Nah.)
- Frosmoth (Ice version of Volcarona with... 2 x4 weaknesses and way too slow to setup a sweep)
- Oricorio (By breeding. Oricorio has too much of a shallow movepool even throughout its forms)
So yeah, a limited move for a very good reason.
B&W: we have Cynthia
Jrose: I have a clefable
Ayo, I know that mon in the thumbnail!
Great vid as always!
Glad to see another person who appreciates gen 5!!
While I was grinding on Persona 3 reload while listening to this video
