So in Gen2 I believe Mirror move will copy almost any move your opponent last used (Like in the Gen2 minimum battles run Blue's Pidgeot mirrors Kenya's curse and got a sweep)
This got changed in Gen3. The logic is that Mirror move's concept is actually to reflect (pun intended) whatever move you got hit last and use your opponent's moves to hit back.
In other words, Mirror move can only work on moves that you got targeted on.
Growth is a self-target move, you do not "Growth" your opponent, you growth yourself. Therefore it will not be Mirror Moved starting in Gen3.
Attract is a move that targets the opponent, so you can mirror move attract.

Hey jrose, there's actually a very quick way to level up in Emerald, while the vs seeker doesn't exist you can rebattle trainers using the pokenav. How it works is that for the trainers you have registered in your pokenav, each of them might want to rebattle you when you enter their route. If you just go in and out of their route very quickly, you can rebattle them a lot and level up very quickly. I recommend route 117, pretty sure that's the fastest

I think that's the reason why we're playing Emerald here instead of Ruby or Sapphire. I... don't think Steven would be doable. You can't set up on Skarmory because Toxic and you only get one chance to bypass it. And then there's also Metagross; which resists or is immune to literally every move Sunkern can learn, and I don't see Sunkern taking Meteor Mash very well. Hidden Power Fire might be a requirement to make Steven possible.
Let's put it this way; there's a reason why JRose didn't fight postgame Steven. Because that's Champion Steven with higher levels; and that Skarmory would make things even less possible.

It’s weird seeing bullet seed doing no damage. In the mystery dungeon games, it’s one of the most insanely overpowered moves ever. It’s long range and it does a crapload of damage every time. I’ve knocked out boss Pokémon in one turn using bullet seed because every hit does over 200 damage. The only multi-hit move that I’ve seen so more damage is bonemerang on a marowak. Multi hit moves are incredibly powerful in PMD

So during the Gen II era, in one of my game playthroughs, I really wanted to use Sunkern, as I saw that it could learn Sunny Day, Synthesis, and Giga Drain upon level-up, and then if you evolved it on the same level it learned Giga Drain, the Sunflora would learn Solarbeam, and my young brain at the time thought that would be an awesome moveset (what is type coverage?). I unfortunately did not know at the time how garbage Sunkern's stats were, and actually training it up to Lv. 46 was an utter pain... and the resulting Sunflora, wasn't particularly worth it either.
I feel like this Sunkern run was a bit of redemption for this little seed, especially with the final moveset being almost the same (but with Growth instead of Synthesis).

(17:20) Overheat is 140 base power, not 150. But yeah, it's way too much for your seed.
(29:44) Maybe it's because Attract targeted Swablu, while Growth only buffed the user, so it can only use Mirror Move on something that targets it?
(33:09) There are certain trainers that get registered in your PokéNav in RSE, and you can get into rematches with them. It's a bit finicky, but usually I find that if you enter and leave the route that the trainer is on rapidly and repeatedly (like, by going up and down across the border between Route 104 and Rustboro, for example), this greatly increases the likelihood that trainers on that route will suddenly want to rematch you. And, when you first open the PokéNav, if its big blue light on the left is blinking, that means there's a trainer on that route that's ready to rematch you, so that can be a quick way to check (Route 104 is particularly good for money, because of the Lady and Rich Boy that can both rematch you on that route). However, this doesn't seem to work all that well for some places like Petalburg Woods that you have to screen transition into (I can almost never get the Bug Catcher there to rematch me at will, for instance).
(1:15:43) Actually, you'd need 6 Growths to double your power compared to 2. With 2 Growths, you have 200% power. With 4 Growths, you have 300% power, not 400%. Therefore, it would take 6 Growths to reach 400% power.
(1:16:58) Yep. With just 5 Growths under your belt, you only have 350% power, which is not quite enough.
    (1:18:10) Clutch crit FTW!
    (1:18:35) You're welcome!
(1:20:05) And that's game, with a first-try flawless victory on Wallace! Huzzah!

Just throwing this out there for future Gen 3 stuff because of your Glacia battle where you thought setting up against the Blizzard Sealeo wouldn't be viable (despite many other luck based strategies used throughout), Blizzard doesn't get its accuracy negating during Hail effect until Gen 4.
Great run though, glad you're branching out more recently. Gotta say though, I feel like you make certain aspects of these way harder on yourself than they need to be. Specifically referring to the berry fiasco near the end, why if you're modifying your save (I assume this is what you meant by "importing" it to something like PKHex) you don't just tinker with your EVs manually since it's fundamentally the same thing. The same idea could be applied to using Candies to level up instead of fighting wild Mons, although I think there's probably limitations to the legitimacy of this ideal such as modifying IVs for different Hidden Powers (or for anything really) at different points in the run or changing your ability in games before the Ability Capsule exists/is obtainable.
Obviously if a run is borderline impossible I'd prefer to see a Mon reach its max potential by any means necessary before giving up on it (such as the Spinarak run), but there's definitely a balance to be reached between logical convenience and illogical abuse. Just wanted to drop this idea out there if it would make these easier (production wise) and more enjoyable.

They seems to want to battle again every 5 or so minutes and they level up a couple times themselves.

To correct you a bit- in Emerald it's not based on time when they want to battle but every time you enter their route there's a chance that they'll want to battle you. Using this strategy you can go in and out of their route quickly and almost guarantee a battle. Doing this on route 117 helps you level up very quickly faster than even victory road pretty sure

    • @nothx13
      @nothx13 Год назад

If I remember correctly, the chance is applied only to gym leaders but not entirely sure. Correct me if I'm wrong!) This is maybe not the most efficient way of grinding via rematches, but it is one of the possible ways if you like to running/bike around crazily for fun or whatever and this is also a little bit of funfact about Emerald.
