Last time there was a month of Jrose I was struggling with anxiety through my grad school program so much so that I couldn’t sleep more than 4 hours any given night and these videos were the only thing that could distract me enough from my anxiety to fall asleep. Now, I’m two weeks away from graduating from my doctoral program and in a much better place mentally and I’m so excited to enjoy this once again in the right mindset. Thank you Jrose11! Your work and positivity do more than you know and I’m grateful for all the time and effort you put in for us!
took me way too long to realise that the thumbnail was Abra benchpressing spoons.. I thought it was freaking out at the dentist's office or something! I should stay away from YT until I've fully woken up..
Probably really really really bad. Gen 4 mechanics change struggle to be 25% max health as recoil, so if you struggle 4 times, you die. Might not even be possible but I sure can't wait to see what jrose does with it
@@coreyfrank506 Actually you can struggle 5 times if your HP is odd and you have leftovers, but yeah in Gen 4+ runs 99% of pokemon are hard walled by any trainer with 6 pokemon with struggle only.

I am interested enough though that I’ll go back the next day to the last part that I remember, so I guess I’m boosting your viewer retention even more when I do that. Looking forward to having a back log to get through the month of Jrose
I just got to Steven how is there this much video left I'll be back to this comment after I finish the video. Absolute cinema. Jrose11 my goat. You should have your name on the Hollywood walk of fame.
I wonder how much impact rerolling in the beginning for the perfect Hidden Power would have in Ruby/Sapphire. Might have made some of the "late middle game" a bit easier.
Secret Power paralysis + Focus Punch quite prob would've sped up some of these. Amazing challenge though Jrose! Look forward to seeing what else you manage this month!
I kept thinking to myself just how much easier (and cheesier) this would be in gens beyond 3 because of the special/physical split finally making the elemental punches physical moves, plus Knock Off to, well, knock off items the opponent could be holding, or Zen Headbutt for the STAB. It'd especially be easier beyond 4 with Eviolite, which raises the defense and special defense of any unevolved Pokemon by 50%. (That's usually a mid or late game item so you can't use it to cheese your way through the entire game legitimately.)
23:36 I think the strat would have been to use Focus Punch on the healing turn. That way, the Skarmory is back at pinch HP and doesn't get an opportunity to attack again.
Jrose you crazy son of a gun! I like straight away before watching when i saw the title couldnt belive it! Now digging in! You are the GOAT of poke chalenges dude
I remember being a kid and not knowing how the physical special stat calculated damage. But still thinking “abra needs moves so I can train if I will teach it shadow ball I bet he will do major damage he mentally makes the ball” 😅
That was actually amazing with how that turned out halfway through the video lmao, and the classic opening makes a cameo too. This is some Jrose hall of fame level challenge. Thanks for this fantastic entertainment!
Was not expecting the 2nd half or the end. Was not expecting you to try that. Would have liked to see an Iron Tail attempt. Great video as always. Hyped for another month of JRose!
Genuinely assumed my phone was autoplaying another video of yours when the intro kicked in. I'm back now, 4 hours later wondering why RUclips is telling me I'm only half way through this video I thought I had finished.
Would have been interested to see you try to use Secret Power's paralysis to get Focus Punch to land on Winona's Skarmory. Still luck-based, but it might have required a lot less grinding (at least for that hurdle in particular...) Fantastic video as always. The things you put yourself through for our entertainment, absolutely heroic.
Ooooo! While I enjoy your Red/Blue speedruns, this is the kind of content that got me started on your channel. The impossible challenges are always fun.
17:35 while I don't think this should in any way discredit the work and difficulty that went into this entire playthrough, I can't help but wonder if the "solo" aspect might be compromised from getting access to King's Rock from a caught Pokémon. Getting access to Rare Candies, Healing Items and whatever is not impactful to the battles in itself, it just speeds up the whole leveling process. But the Zigazagoon's Picked Up King's Rock enters a slight gray area where we are talking about an item that directly impacted the battles Abra partook in (and more importantly, impacted the success rate of them) that could never be obtained at that point in the game without using a PokeBall on an entirely different Pokémon creature (that is, King's Rock cannot be theft with the TM Thief from any wild Pokémon in Hoenn). If we are saying that whatever the wild and, particularly, the caught Pokémon provide is completely in the realm of resources available to the player in this challenge, then there's absolutely no problem with what was done and you can discard my comment. Heck, for what it's worth, you could even have the entire National Dex, caught and raised, in the PC, but as long as you only use Physical Abra in every single trainer fight, the challenge is completed.
My brother Jrose, I checked my yearly RUclips statistics and you were sitting squarely at the very top of my most watched channels. Essentially, the AI calcs how much damage it would do to your Pokemon if it used the last move, ignoring STAB and type-effectiveness. Then, it looks through each of the AI's Pokemon and moves, multiplying that damage value by each move's type effectiveness and STAB. It sends in the Pokemon with the move that does the most damage. There is an oversight when the damage value goes over 255. It sees that it deals more damage than the current best move, but it stores the damage value modulo 255. Essentially, it overwrites the highest damage value with a much smaller value. At Lv82, Abra knocked out Mightyena with Focus Punch. Let's say that ignoring the resistance, Sidney's Mightyena sees that Focus Punch would do about 100 damage, ignoring the resistance. Next, it goes to Shiftry. Shiftry only has Normal moves and Extrasensory, so it sees Shiftry would do 100 or 50 damage for each move. Next in the party is Cacturne. Cacturne has a Dark move. Because Mightyena gets STAB off Dark and Dark is Super effective against Abra, it should do 300 damage. However, because of the bug, it stores it as 45. Therefore, it sees that the new best is Cacturne with 45 damage. This repeats with Sharpedo and Absol, so it sees that Absol has the best move and sends it in. At Lv100, Abra knocks out Mightyena with Return. Mightyena would do much less with Return, so the bug does not occur. It correctly sees the damage value for each move and correctly sends in Cacturne (ties are broken in team order). So, it actually has nothing to do with Abra's level, rather which move you used. Does this make no sense? That's fine, this is a very niche interaction that comes up so rarely. I just thought this was really interesting and wanted to share my theories as to why this happened :) Of course I might be wrong, please let me know if I said something wrong!
