The level Medvedev and Djokovic played in the 2nd set was incredibly high probably one of the best sets of the year in term of quality

It's good but the best set should be the game Zrevev vs Nadal at Roland Garros
Novak was pretty honest afterwards. Said Medvedev was playing better in both sets. Such a shame we didn’t get a third. Was a fabulous match. One of the best of the year for pure tennis quality. Hope Meddy heals up soon. That was the best he’s played all year. The men’s top ten is getting very, very exciting…
Also, Tsitsipas is playing seriously well right now.
kinda took me back to french open semi-final 2021 and quarter-final 2022. both against nadal. both would've been even way greater if they had gone to 5 sets. the 3rd set of roland garros 2021 is the best clay set i've ever seen.

Djokovic really looked disappointed that Medvedev retired.
Well yeah, a player never wants to win like that.
what's weird about that
@@trips347 No... wtf in your brain lmao. Novak didn't play quite a bit lately, he needs a practice partner
Well what do you think is more satisfying beating a top player or them withdrawing? To me a fight isn’t won unless it’s fair and square you actually played all the sets. Like winning against Federer in his prime as opposed to Federer in his 40’s. Don’t get me wrong he’s still a forced to be reckoned with but, you know what I mean.
Case in point beating nadal at Rolland garros as opposed to any other player.
Nole looked genuinely shocked and dissapointed lolz, they both were sooo good in second, third would have been on fire.... THAT TIE BREAK BAS CRAZY ... Sad for Meddy and all od us
Match was great.. But third set would be one way street.. Novak would dominate, Medwedev knew it, he didnt feel that good probably, so he retired cause he knew he will get destroyed sadly...
@@shredz0000 Daniil retired because he pulled an adductor muscle, he stated it later in the press conference (Novak said the same right after the match). there was no point in injuring himself any further because he knew he wouldn't be able to play tomorrow even if he'd won the third set. This match was a big test to Novak. Physically tough match for Novak, especially he haven't played many matches like this. In Tel Aviv he played good, but had no real test. Today not only a test but a real physically demanding match. Considering he haven't played this kind of match for a long times proves that Djokovic is ready more than ever!!!!
True, he needed something like this. Shame that we didnt get the 3rd set, but it is what it is. I hope Tsitsipas can challenge Novak too!
Nothing Is psychical though for Novak men. Jajajajaj. After Wimbledon final vs RF with a stadium against him
He was close to losing if Only Medvedev put away the ball 5-5 in tiebreak Medvedev would have a good night rest for finals. Or maybe he would have opted out And Tsitsipas would have won the tournament

@@depassebenjamin3212 i hope that changes tomorrow...tsitsipas, has lost 8 atp 500 finals
We definitely can't say he's improving his game. He has had a slightly disappointing year for his standards, and some losses this year exposed some of his flaws that require improvement. Right now he's doing good in the tournament but nothing out of the ordinary for him, only after beating Novak we might be able to conclude that he has stepped up.
I don't mean to sound pessimistic or anything lol but, you know, people tend to watch one match where one guy played good and won and conclude "wow he's definitely improving !" but thats one match.
@@jonas8993 one area he definitely improved on is his grass game. He won Mallorca and played close matches against Murray and Kyrgios in Stuttgart and Halle respectively. He also made the 3rd round at Wimbledon.
Daniil Medvedev, who withdrew from the semi-final in Astana against Novak Djokovic, spoke about the damage.
"At 1-0 in the tie-break, I felt a click in my left leg. At first, for a second right during the draw, I thought that maybe it was a cramp - the match was difficult. After the point, I felt that it was probably not a cramp and that, apparently, for the first time, as in football, I felt that I pulled a muscle, right during the game. Even my head was a little dizzy, I didn't know what to do, because I realized that even if I suddenly win, I probably won't go to the match tomorrow. I knew that I could still finish 5-10 points, so I played the tie-break as best I could, but if I had played the third set further, I could have completely torn a muscle, and there is no point in that. It's a shame, it's annoying, but it happens.
Now it's hard for me to walk, it's hard to step on my foot. I'll go back to Monaco and take a picture, and we'll see. I have a person in the team who works with the Monaco football club, there are such injuries more often, and he will know more how many weeks it is. Today I could still get five or ten points, but a full set is goodbye.
The match was cool, and I felt that there was a struggle going on. The way I felt in terms of tennis at this tournament was the best since Australia - and immediately the mood rises, adrenaline. It's a shame that my body let me down a little, but again, this is my first time."
To qualify fór ATP Novák needs to be in race to ATP final nôt ATP ranking. Novák IS 12th on ATP final race . If he wins satana he will get to 9 or 8 then Paris masters where he has a Better chance to win or atleast to get to final
@@NoleGoatslmweek Well not sure about that . Novak won Wimbledon so if he is top 20 in the race he should qualify regardless since 1 slam winner who isn't in the top 8 gets to replace the 8th seed , that is how it normally works but considering the politics and Wimbledon not awarding points who knows . If I were Novak I would not let my fate go to chance and have the ATP shove a breadstick up my , well you know what . In the rules it says if you win a slam you qualify if you are top 20 and is far as I know Wimbledon despite not awarding points is still considered a Slam , they did not remove the ,, Slam ,, status from Wimbledon but again with all the bs Novak had to deal this year , the last thing he should do is let his fate be in the hands of the ATP . If he wins tomorrow and does well in Paris he will likely be in the top 8 anyway and I am sure that is his goal to make sure he will not get screwed over .
Fine excise, should've done this in AO itself. Could've saved him from embarassment.
At 1-0 if Med felt some twinge and thought he couldn't continue he should have retired there and then. Or called a trainer immediately. It would be terrible for him to win tiebreak, win the match and then have to forfeit the finals when Djoker could be playing in finals. Definitely should not have waited until tie break over to retire.
@@ujiffy69 He wanted to win and he felt he could play 5-10 more minutes . He is a competitor and wants to win regardless of what happens after , the same thing Nadal did at Wimbledon against Fritz . He knew after he lost the second set it was over but he wasn't going out without a fight nor was he going to give Novak a free win . For tennis it is obviously better Novak won since we get a finals now .
i am a die hard Federer fan and i'm still hurting about the wimbledon final in '19 but i've grown to appreciate Djokovic more and more. Although he has some controversy about him, he's just really kind and genuine. I think we should be grateful for having 3 amazing ambassadors of the sport in Novak, Rafa and Roger. First time he had to retire from a match since 2017. If he wasn't concerned it could be serious, he would have finished. He was happy and excited about playing Novak. He could have used the points, but another $100,000 to add to his millions wasn't worth the risk of ending his season.

Djokovic looked untouchable the last two weeks. Danil finds a way to expose him though. His great movement and low pace shot consistancy are so annoying to play against. Always amazes me the number of people making comments based on a 3 to 5 minute video of the match. Medvedev played brilliantly today. If he hadn't gotten injured, he probably would have won the tiebreaker and the match. During the tiebreaker when Medvedev went to the bench and bent over to stretch his leg, something looked wrong. Was hoping he was just tired, but unfortunately an injury. Hope he can finish the rest of the year. Best he's played in ages.
I don't believe Medvedev would have won the TB if 100% healthy. Even he recognized in the post-match interview that he could play the TB of the 3rd just fine, but that he wasn't playing the 3rd set, for not risking an uglier injury.
@@besideyouc.3279 I read his comments too. I think he said he felt the pop at 1-1 in the tiebreaker. That he also felt like he could pass out. I watched as he went to the bench and put his leg up and was bent over trying to get his bearings. That definitely affected his play. But even if he had won, he said he knew he wasn't capable of playing the final. That's for sure. Shame it happened when he was just starting to really play like himself again. He certainly wouldn't play a 3rd set like that especially since he already had a hernia operation and wouldn't want to risk a more severe injury.

Rublev improves quite a lot compared to the last events. I hope he soon figures out better approaches to compete against players who oftentimes outplay him.
Nole is the better man. If he stays healthy he can easily break nadal's record of most grand slam wins.
Wow, what a final four for an ATP 500 tournament.
7:35 For example, at this point, when Tsitsipas hits a running shot, Novak would have predicted it and returned it. That's where Novak's strength lies.
Tie break was fire in the second set between Djoko and Med
Tsitsipas-Rublev was a great battle between two of the game’s biggest heels. You almost wanted them both to lose! 😂 A great match, though, with fantastic plays on both sides. I hope both these guys find greater happiness, both in the game and outside of it ❤
In what way is Rublev a heel?
@@GreySox He consistently throws fits on the court. Tilts super hard and brings out his inner child.
Greek is more likeable than Russian now
Yeah seriously, he didn't even shake umpires hand. Lacks class, Professionalism, and overall likeability
How is Tsitsipas a heel? He seems nice actually.
Med played well but upset that he didn't finish it....
Hope Daniil feels better by the time ATP FInals starts, he did the right thing by retiring, not wise to play a whole other set and completely tear his leg muscle.
He choked so bad that volley at 5-5 that it could have been the other way round but who knows even if that was the case maybe he would have pulled out the final which is even worse
@@nicolasmts3264 yeah he said in a Russian presser that he likely wouldn't have played the FInal had he won, made the right move all around even if it looked weird/shocking
@@emrazum it sucks man he was playing so well and finding some good form as a fan of him it was disappointing. The way he played he would have won the title probably. Hope he comes back stronger in Paris and Turin 🙏
Djokovic the real world number 1 is back - gonna win the tournament where the fake world number 1 (Alcaraz) and the second best player (Medvedev) is playing
Sorry to inform you that Alcaraz is actually the world #1 🙂
He was being outplayed by medvedev until he got injured lol…
King Novak win the second set after second set meddy know he cant beat this monster 😅😅😅😅
Good matches all around.
Medvedev is Djokovic's cryptonite style wise, since Novak usually doesn't have the power to run through him and he isn't as good stamina wise as he once was to stay in the rallies for so long. Plus if serve doesn't go his way, as it didn't for most of the match, he can find himself out of options. Fortunately he turned it up at the end of the second, but it would certainly be a close match, had gone to the third.
It seems you forgot 2021 oz final...
It wasn't back in prehistoric times..
@@abeguy7981 That was kind of a Medvedev choke. He was visibly very nervous in that match.

Jojer makes opponents choke..
Ask fed, if you don't believe me..
Hehe
They are 6-4 for Djokovic in H2H
@@dans459 Well, he's a goat in my books for a reason, but Medvedev is still one of the players that Djokovic needs to be near the top of his game to prevail.
All in all we can see a big change in the gameplay of all players since the young guys brought the variation back, that tennis is actually all about. Thats a big improvement for all, the audience and the players.
Rublev and Medvedev played so well and both lost...😒😔
Oh boy, so sad that Danya couldn't make it to the end and hopefully win, what a performance those 2 sets were. Actually feel sorry for the "next gen vs big3" because there was something really similar with Zverev vs Nadal at RG this year
Rublev almost did a Djokovic. Man this 40-15 has some serious jinx associated with it !
Exactly, this man knows obeah or something!
Tsitsipas has worked on that forehand it seems after that U.S open exit
I'm sad for Rublev but happy for Stefanos.
I hope Rublev starts making some tweaks to his tennis before he goes crazy or burns out. Must be frustrating to always play the same way and being stuck for a while.
When skill meets experienced this is what happens. Beautiful just beautiful from both players (Novak Vs Medvedev)
Novak could have been on 23 34 slams.
Hes definitely the true GOAT.
Medvedev knew he was cooked...Djokovic being back is so refreshing
