Rafa has lost only 3 times at Roland Garros and has an 8-2 record there against Novak... Rafa's losses at the French Open were clearly due to him not being at 100% health... even remotely close to his best, he will always be the favorite at the French... his game is built in such a way that he just won't lose on clay in a best of 5!

    At 0-2, 2-3, 0-40 in the third set, everybody was giving up on Nadal, even the commentators. I remember them saying something like Medvedev just needed the last nail in the coffin, and after that things would be over. When Medvedev broke back 5-5 in the fifth set, Nadal was having flashbacks of the 2012 final. Somehow he pulled it off, one of the greatest wins in his incredible career. I was so proud when he reached 21 GS, and for some time he stood alone at the summit of men's tennis.

    This was one of my favourite matches of recent years, possibly that I've seen. I actually preferred this to the other epic 2012 final between Nadal and Djokovic, because that was more attritional tennis, which sometimes gets dull. This was a great ebb and flow, and Medvedev really endeared himself to a lot of tennis fans being a part of this quality match.

  • @florinaotet4460
    @florinaotet4460 Год назад +1

    Yes. An extraordinary match. Two extraordinary athletes! All respect and admiration for them, for the way they fought for victory - an open battle in which nothing but their physical, technical and psychological qualities mattered.
    But the audience...
    I wonder: how many German spectators (I suppose there were...) and how many spectators of any kind (except Spanish or Nadal fans) burst into applause when the Russian Medvedev (admirable tennis player) scored... In 2022!
    Sport (any kind of sports competition) is by definition a "space of fair play".
    But, as they say, life beats the movie - and the spectators of this match confirmed it.
    So, please, re-watch the match by watching the reactions of the spectators.

      @@user-yl8gd4pp1n That’s not what I was asking, so don’t be too defensive. I just asked how her admiration for Rafa has anything to do with politics. And by the way, it’s “HE’s not the GOAT, not HIS not the GOAT”. 😛 Also, haven’t you heard of the adage, “insults are arguments employed by those who are in the wrong?” The fact that insults and name-calling are the last resort of insecure people with a crumbling position who try to appear confident seems to apply to your response, just proves my point. As you claim, you can admire a player all you want, without the need to disparage others who don’t feel the same way.

    If Rafa at this age and as no 7 beat the no 2 at that time, I have no doubts that he would obliterate almost anyone from the current era in his prime. Anyone from the big 3 (in their prime and even after) to be honest would obliterate anyone in todays tennis with ease.

    I don't know if it's a normal Rafa tick to feel the footboard of the umpire's chair but it seemed so sentimental - obviously he can't believe he made it, but it's like he realizes how much of a miracle what he'd just accomplished is and he wanted to cherish the moment/handshake/end of the match one last time because he truly didn't think he would ever experience it again.
