Medvedev 25 yrs old, Djokovic 34 yrs old: Novak, playing at that level at 9 years Daniil's senior, showed what a true champion he is! Outstanding match!!! Daniil is a force to be reckoned with to be sure and will hold his lion's share of trophies but not today!

    • @nevis9026

He is not in his prime anymore and yet he dominates in tennis thanks to the huge experience, mental toughness and healthy (vegetarian) diet.
Danil won in the US finals because he saved many important break points with his rocket serve but today it simply didn't work. Novak was too agile today.

In 2015, each time Nole won against 34 year old Roger, many would say he won because he was 6 years younger than Roger. Also, back then Roger was way more experienced with more Grand Slam titles than Nole, but people refused to point it out, but now experience is always the excuse when Nole wins against younger players.
Today, we hardly hear anyone recognising the fact that Nole is almost always 10-11 years older than his opponents in big matches.
About time Nole gets the recognition he deserves from every tennis fan

Djokovic's forehand has never been the most underrated shot in tennis, it has always been a great shot since the beginning of his career.
Federer's forehand was more underrated because everybody was talking about his elegance and beautiful backand while he send missile shots with its forehand each time but as it seems effortless, it seems less powerful than a Del Potro forehand or Tsonga then Federer forehand is just a massive and weapon.

the simple difference this time was that Medvedev wasn’t facing a spent, fatigued, mentally frazzled Djokovic in the final.
Novak could actually move in this match and it made the difference on him pushing up and into his first serve (woefully lacking at the flushing meadows encounter) and an explosive first step to the return and the wide balls (absent at the US Open).

After USO loss Tom Dickey Harry everyone started to criticize and writing off from the Tennis world itself that he is a choker, his time was over, he can’t even thinking of winning etc. but he believed in himself and his hard core fans trusted him and had faith on him and his talent, capability and ability. He proved once again that he can’t be written off so easily and shut the mouth of all his haters and critics by his amazing win today. Bravo Novak and good luck for the ATP finals also.

I don't think most people notice that he's been doing that for his entire career. He has always usually played the first set very relaxed and almost always loses it if the opponent seems at all slightly difficult. He tries for it if the opponent is weak, but other then that he just lets it go. I'm not saying that he tanks it or that he completely stops trying, he obviously still puts up an effort, but he's just not worried about getting breaked or any errors. I'm assuming it's a tactic to just conserve energy, let your opponent get comfortable, get your own rallies going, and get comfortable yourself. Then immediately as soon as the second set starts, he catches the opponent off guard because he explodes with athleticism and strong hitting. Then he's usually looking for the breaks and just keeps it going. You can tell, because both times when he was unable to convert the break against Medvedev in the second set (here and in US Open) he got very frustrated.
I don't personally prefer that style of play, but it is very effective for Novak.

Indeed Medved has the mindset and skills to take over. Howver, there are no more big 3. There is only Novak. The other two are not competitive anymore. Nadal stil has a very good chance at RG but not at other slams. Many players can beat him on hard courts or grass. And Roger, well he is not competitive at any slam. So big 3 is the past already.

It is a pity that in this review we could not see a single Djokovic volley and there were many of them and he played them in the style of Edberg from the best days. Once upon a time, Novak went online just to say goodbye to his opponent and now he has perfected this aspect of the game and that is why he is the best. This was bittersweet revenge for Novak but this win puts him ahead of Federer and Nadal to me. He worked extremely hard on his game and that time off did him a world of good. He took on all challengers and did not duck anyone. That being said: Daniil is ahead of Zverev (whom he DESTROYED) and Stefanos (who is turning into a "coulda, shoulda, woulda,").

Medvedev thrives on Opponent's pace given from both wings..Slicing and mixing up the pace will force him to use his own power, disrupting his rhythm, giving a slight chance for opponent to finish the point with Controlled Aggression( as Novak Said himself) with precision like Novak or Power like Thiem or Nadal as Meddy is really good mover and can defend well..Also Wide serve of Novak returned by CC FH or BH of Med gave Novak chance to finish it with Superb Volleys..But All of the Above worked on a Medium Slow court like Bercy..But on a Faster court..His serve becomes more of a weapon and things will become Difficult..Let's see what will happen in their Future meetings.✌🏼✌🏼(ps: Dimitrov did it well too)

Djokovic was just the better player today.
Novak Djokovic is unique in that he is a defender at heart with an attacker's gameplay. That makes it very difficult to play against him. He makes his opponents ask themselves "What do I have to do to win a point off this guy?" He started off as a defensive stamina guy, with his backhand, service return, and movement, all the classic defensive weapons. But he's since become one of the best servers on tour, with a killer forehand and an excellent second serve, the ultimate weapon of the attacker. His genius comes from his ability to shrink the court to where his side of the court is half the size of his opponent's.

These highlights are great for the baseline exchanges in which both players are phenomenal, but actually what made the difference today was Djokovic's courage to be agressive with serve&volley in the most important moments. It's a shame none of it is shown in these highlights. I think it would be great to share the whole 10 minute game at 5:3 in the second set, Novak serving for the set. Medvedev had 3 breakballs, all of them saved by Novak with great serve&volleying, and then he had to play 3 or 4 setballs because Medvedev was amazing too. That one game was the best in the match, probably could be only topped be a tiebreak between these two.
Unfortunately Medvedev couldn't find his first serve and keep overall consistency in the third set, but still an amazing final and fully deserved win by Djokovic. Not a big fan of his, but it was nice to see the moments with his family after the win and also he was releasing the frustration in the first half of the match in a much more sympathetic and civilised way than he usually does. Perhaps it was thanks to having his kids in the crowd. I think there will be a re-match at the ATP Finals and it will be interesting to see if Medvedev can change his tactics on the return to be less exposed to the serve&volley attacks. Actually he did exactly the same to turn around the Nitto final against Thiem last year, playing many net points with a high effectivity and also serve&volleying even after the second serve because Thiem was returning from so far behind the baseline.

      Novak. Roger. Rafa
Novak officially slammed the door on both Rogers and Rafas last chance to be considered the GOAT when he beat Roger at 2019 Wimbledon and Rafa at 2021 Rolland Garros.
The media, commentators and the billion dollar sponsors have pushed the narrative for 15 years that when it came to the GOAT….
      Roger was the chosen one
      Rafa was the hopeful one.
In spite of their false narrative, Novak is the only one.!
