Anyone who says Djokovic can’t volley is absolutely clueless. He is the best at adapting and improving in tennis history. His smash is the only shot that isn’t exceptional. He was 37/44 at the net against Med in USO 2023 final, and volleyed like a beast. When you’re as dominant as him from the baseline, he just usually sees no need to go to net…24 slams speaks for itself.
Depends on when they said it. If they said it back in the early 2010's, then they were absolutely correct. djokovic really struggled in front of the baseline in those days. It just didn't matter, because he was so good at scrambling that he could get away with poor volleys and late transitions. As long as he didn't fail to put the ball over the net, he could still dig himself out of the poor situations that his lack of net familiarity put him in. but 2021 djokovic was a different beast. absolutely incredible how he went from painfully mediocre at net to a net god. 2021 djokovic played perfect attacking tennis. I really hold 2021 in high esteem, right there with 2011 and 2015. Ever since federer retired, djokovic is honestly the premier exemplar of efficient attacking tennis on tour. people just don't notice because his history of defensive specialization, as well as the fact that he can still scramble with the best of them when he needs to.
He is good at volleys when the passing shot comes in a direction he expects. If it doesn’t he has generally poorer reflexes than more natural volleyers like Alcaraz and Federer
@@raghumanda2tanush496 And you're suffering from Federer bias if you really believe Djokovic's volleys now are not close to Federer's. It's not just the skill of them now, but how consistent he has become at the net. Whereas in 2015 even he missed so many of them, Djokovic now barely misses any and almost always makes the difficult ones too.
@@TheNabOwnzz federer approaches more, Djokovic approached because of Medvedev, but if you see his approaches in other rounds, it was actually very low, federer won golden in doubles for a reason
@@raghumanda2tanush496 Yeah i know he generally only does this against Medvedev because he can't really out-rally him, but that doesn't change the fact that Djoko's volleys are insane now. If his volleys were still as they were pre-2021 (when it really got better), he would certainly not have beaten Medvedev in this US open.
Actually he was the first player just after USO 21 Final defeat who created with his team and successfully applied brand-new tactics with extremly deep and bias diagonal serve&volley against Medvedev with his concrete and tough baseline style. Dashing eagle vs Viscous octopus. And the Eagle was more effecient at Paris 21 Final and USO 23 Final. Just yesterday. H2H Nole vs Meddy since Paris 21 F: 5 - 1
Novak’s serve and volley is extremely effective against Medvedev. He really exploits how far Daniil stands back to return. Instead of trying to beat him east to west, he wins going north to south. I don’t like Novak but I must admit it’s a sound strategy with exceptional execution 🎉
It was absolutely one of the most memorable final showdowns which was competed between Djokovic and Medvedev. He has proven his volley capabilities in this appearrance as I analyzed with the full details. He had made a huge difference with the magical volley strike.
Serve and volley is not No24vak's game, but that's s why he hired Becker after he lost 3 GS finals in a row.( 2013 Wimbledon,2013 USO,2014 RG).Novak still misses seemingly easy overhead smashes,or plays them too safe.No24vak also places the ball in the middle of the court, after he served wide and his opponent is outside the doubles line, but it is hard to argue against his high percentage shot game when you consider the success he has had over the years.
Still confuses me why Alcaraz didnt do a lot of serve and volley like this in the semis, knowing he can pull it off aswell. This is a great lesson to anyone that wanna try to beat Meddy
@@hegidaniel7724 Bar the 2nd set (longest set in USO history, I believe, with both guys saving set points). That 2nd set he played absolutely great, just couldn't seize on his chance.
I remember when his volleying game wasn't well-developped and he wasn't good at it. Once again, like many other aspects of his agme, he managed to improve it.
Honestly, Novak didn't play hard volleys in that match. Daniil stay far behind and Novak just finished the attacks. His volley skills reminds me of Agassi
Mainly because of time period.those were faster courts and serve volley was trend.but now baseline battle is new tennis so no way they can master s&v.its quite natural.
Oh, great.. But, tell me, what does Nadal say, did he manage to "cleanse his body" and try next year to come back as he can, as energetically after the "injury" and win another title? Although honestly, even those steroids that caused his hair to fall out and his knees to fail won't help him now. It's all for nothing, Nole added gas, shifted it into "twenty-fourth". 👋

This volley performance was even better than yesterday's. Man legit looked like Federer that day.
Idk, the final performance of this US Open for me seemed better and *larger* at scale of winning the 24 volleying like THAT
I judt love watching Novak play.
Its poetry in motion 😍
Greatest athlete of all time ❤🎉🐐🐐
Jan Zelezny and Alexander Karelin are laughing but OK
I love it when nole does serve and volley, its beautiful

It's very nice that a few good Med points are also shown.
