    We lived in quite remarkable era of tennis with everything set in the best possible and fairest way.
    Imagine if Federer had two handed backhand or if there are two major on clay or Novak didn't have those early fitness problems or if anyone of them was in different era, things could have been vastly different.
    So anyone could be your GOAT but they made this era as GOAT's era.

    Its the moments that get away from Federer. Time and time again. Start of the 2nd set. 40-15 serving for 1-1. He ends up getting broken and the set goes quickly. Rafa and Novak are simply far more clinical. Roger playing a flat 2nd set cost him dearly. At the end so many of his decisions were so off. God i loved him, but his defeats were always so damn painful/avoidable. This match changed the rivalry forever. What a tennis match though. The rallies and movement are just phenomenal. Djokovic got the perfect tennis schooling. Constantly having to go up against Fed and Nadal in major semis/finals. What hes done in surpassing them both is incredible. The court speed slowed overtime, and his footwork decreased due to age. Also, something I didn't realize is that the 85 and 90 square inch heads allowed him to whip the forehand through the air much faster than his 97. I'm not exactly sure why. Could be age, and a smaller head size means less mass to swing. That's probably why with the new RF 01 he tried to replicate that.

      That is to say, what helped him on the one hand, hurt him on the other.

      Sampras started playing with two hands because he was so weak but was told to switch to one hand so he could win major titles as the courts were faster and that way he could be more aggressive and coud attack the net. So he won 5 ATP Finals, 7 Wimbledons and 5 United States Opens and was # 1 for six straight years in the 90s.

    To all those who think that roger is mentally fragile of the big 3 he was ahead for most of the match whereas Novak was playing catch up, and had to produce good tennis when it mattered ..if you look at the stats roger had to come back many times from 2 sets down to win a match in his entire career than Novak had done...and also in all the matches us open 2010 11 and wimby 19 he was the leader of grand slam count and never would have considered those matches a must win whereas for Novak these matches were must win..and he had to produce good tennis when it mattered ..he might be mentally strong as the situation demanded him to win at all cost ..roger was used to winning the championship matches in 4 sets all his career..that doesn't make him mentally fragile

      @NamTran-xc2ip 7 месяцев назад +3

      Being ahead in the match is not relevant to fragile mentality. Federer won more matches (20) being matchpoint down, but he also lost more (24). Novak lost 3, Nadal 8 and Novak won at least 4, in the biggest ,moments. Just accept reality that Novak, Rafa are a step above Federer in the mental game.

      But that's why/where Federer, the most stylish and aggressive attacking player, lost out. He won most of his duels against his greatest rivals like Rafa & Nole during the early years (2006-2010) because he dictated the play. But they, especially Novak, turned up their defensive game and also attack, Federer began to falter/fail.
