We’d be speaking about Delpo in the same breath as the big 3 right now if he didn’t get injured. One of the greatest lost talents in tennis history. As least he has this moment to look back on.

@@shervintravels2628 Worst part is, you can clearly feel he is in control of the match, till suddenly he decides to prove his forehand is better or something, he can't, and then loses his mental because of a late challenge.
Sometimes tennis is about playing in a certain way that dismantles the opponent rather than overpowering him and show off, and Rog forgot about that in this match. Not that I am mad about it, because IMO Delpo deserved it.

@@mariodoblado668 you’re absolutely right. Later on Federer always adjusted his game to defeat his opponent. But here I guess he was too proud to accept that this 20 y.o was outhitting him on his forehand.

Well, according to Mouratoglou, Delpo had one of the best double backhands of all time. So I would say Federer was simply outplayed by Delpo in this game.

Fed should have brought Delpo into the net. Instead Fed chose to bang on the baseline with a guy that was hitting on fire. Bad decision.

Federer missed a crucial forehand at 3-3 in the 2nd set tiebreaker to give the set, then loses two crucial forehands again in the fourth set tiebreaker when he was 3 points away from a 6th consecutive US Open title.
Wimbledon 2008: Federer commits 8 forehand unforced errors in the last 2 games, after being 2 points away from a 6th consecutive Wimbledon title.
Roger´s forehand maybe have given him a lot, probably the best forehand ever, but at the same time took from him a lot more glory, victories that he should have had.
