What a nightmare the packers were for us. Such heartbreak I had when I was younger every time we lost. This win felt so good.

T.O.'s emotion in 'The Catch II' against the Packers was the same emotion Vernon Davis made with "The Catch III" against the Saints.
Same end of the field, same pass up the middle, both players caught it while taking a big hit and hung on to the ball for a touchdown, both players were in tears of joy after the touchdown.

The last month of the 1998 season was an awful one for NFL officiating. There was the infamous Vinny Testaverde play, the coin-toss controversy with Bettis on Thanksgiving and a series of bad calls at the end of a Bills-Patriots game. The Jets-Seahawks and Bills-Patriots were games with major playoff implications and bad calls changed the outcome of them. Then, to top it off, this Rice fumble happened IN an actual playoff game, the league's worst nightmare. The only positive was that it resulted in replay being brought back permanently the next season.

***** you made it sound like the 49ers were screwed out of many games vs the packers. 1996 in GB is the only one where the guy was touched down. whos to say that packers wouldnt have scored on the drive anyway? the rice fumble on the other hand was way bigger because it would have given the packers the win right there.

      *****
The 9ers got manhandled by GB following the '95, '96 and '97 season. During the '98 season GB won by 14 in a November game. I think the packers were the better team in all 4 years. The gap closed by '98. The owens catch proved the type of luck/freak play needed for SF to finally beat GB.

spg203 Some teams get the calls going their way.
The 49er fans who kept saying they were robbed in their last three playoff losses under Jim Harbaugh should admit they caught their own breaks off controversial calls in the 1998 NFC Wild Card game vs. GB and in the 2002 NFC Wild Card game vs. NYG.

everyone gets robbed at some point. '96 season niners lost their regular season meeting at lambeau on a horrible call allowing don beebe to score the tying td. packers won on a fg in ot. as a result packers got home field advantage and niners had to face them in the playoffs at an awful muddy field with no steve young. it comes and goes.
