This was why the 49ers were Great. They went from RB's and Receivers and Pass Blockers to going down field finding a job and they all became Blockers...... this was 49ers Dynasty Football at its Greatest.... This is one example of while we will alway Love Joe, but will also always Love Steve....49ers Family.
You have to love the effort from Young's teammates here. Besides the Rathman block, Rice, Taylor, and I believe that's Mike Wilson downfield throwing blocks, not to mention two linemen that ran downfield to help out too. That's some teamwork.
As I scroll through videos late at night drunk, I will admit this gives me chills. Even as a raiders fan. The play and the call just synchronize so perfectly and match the level of excitement. R.I.P Lon
Just as great as the run is the hustle and organization of the Niners to start blocking for him. They realized what was going on and got in position to give Young a runway to the end zone.
@@collinghood6828 Yep a lot of heartbreaks, that is true. I'm still in therapy for the Herschel Walker trade and Garry Anderson's missed field goal. jk. If you're a Niners fan, I'm not trying to get personal. But I think of the Brett Favre's original Minneapolis Miracle as revenge.
@@collinghood6828 BTW Frisco is a great city. I've been there a couple times. It's too f'n expensive to live there. I loved the coast down to Point Sur.
I still remember this play and as a Vikings fan, I was absolutely disgusted at their lack of tackling. But Steve Young was a tough runner and he did this against a really good defense.
I love how Steve Young breaks like seven tackles to run so far and trips over his own feet into the endzone. Can you imagine if he tripped five yards before that?
2024. 11yrs old at the time. Most exciting, most dramatic run ever still to this day. Thanks impartially to the Great Lon Simmons. Check out the blocking also.
The great Lon Simmons ... I still have memories when he was with Russ Hodges calling SF Giant games. And I was so happy that he came back that last year to announce Niner games the season they beat the Bengals in the last few seconds of the Superbowl. And he had so many great calls during the many years he announced. He & Bill King were my favorite announcers & I miss them both. For one last time Russ .... "Tell It Goodbye!!", RIP ...
I remember well, sitting a "The Stick" when they would pull Montana and put in the kid (Steve Young). Joe's legs weren't so good and then Steve would shock the Defense with some great running exhibitions. Those were good times to be a Niner's fan...
How did they superimpose Steve Young's body over the Burger King's to make this video clip? I mean it really looks like Steve Young made the play and not The King!
Take heed modern receivers: look who's down field, throwing the last block to free up Young. Why, it's only the greatest receiver of them all, Jerry Rice, Flash 80 himself.
mja49ers1 wow, you know thats the defense's fault? hb colin throwing the dumbest interceptions in a crucial game and him regressing throughout a full season?
Kap "regressed" because he lost his best target, hadbtoblearn to stay in the pocket, very different from pistol and read options - you're one of those hindsight, entitled pro Alex fans I bet
22deeboi colin kaepernicks 125 rushing yards were the only reason we were in the game. had their not been biased officiating te 49ers would be holding the vince lombardi trophy right now.
Young's was better and was the Lynch run from the QB position. Know the game son. Vick couldn't pass. There is a reason Steve Young is a Hall of Fame Player, and a Top 10-15 QB in NFL history. Lynch won't even get into the HOF. Hell Frank Gore deserves it before Lynch. lol
Not trying to sound like a hater......but there were a bunch of really lazy tackles in there. Young did get pretty lucky on that play. I just wouldn't consider this a "great" run, especially by today's standards.
Yeah, I've seen Kaepernick pull off better runs than that. The run he made in the conference championship last year jumps out to me. Marshawn Lynch had an amazing run against the Saints. I remember Brandon Marshall making an amazing run against the Cowboys back when he played for the Broncos. There are probably 100's of runs that I've seen over the years that are better than this one. Like I said, this one was more about bad tackling than anything else.
habs4life41 ......how does that affect the quarterback's running ability? It makes their passing more efficient, but it doesn't make their running any more potent. Also, how do those rules help running backs? Here's a thought, maybe there are better athletes playing today than there was 20 years ago.
Tamila Well snakes and rats are both highly intelligent creatures in their own right. In most Asian cultures they are some of the highest regarded of all the animal species. So thank you for the compliment.
Such a great & spirited call. RIP LON SIMMONS, Bay Area Legend
Such a great call...a classic!
R.I.P. to the Legendary Lon Simmons. The sports world, especially the Bay Area, will forever miss you!
I WAS THERE!!!!
I STILL get goosebumps hearing the crowd.

He wasnt there...... Gullible..
R.I.P Mr. Lon Simmons, loved listening you through out the years.there will.never be another like you.
What a call by Lon Simmons
Chills to this day when I hear Lon
Will never ever tire of watching this!
The third time he says “ gets away again!” is one of my favorite calls ever!

Lon Simmons, Steve Young, and some great blocking!
Just as great as the run is the hustle and organization of the Niners to start blocking for him. They realized what was going on and got in position to give Young a runway to the end zone.
the run was great but the blocking was amazing!!
So freaking awesome. Best run ever. Every single Vikings player had somewhat of a chance to bring him down. Love it.
As a Vikings fan, that was so heart breaking watching as it happened on TV. But I have to say, today even I'm impressed by it.
As a Vikings fan, you must deal with a lot of heartbreak.

It's an amazing play by itself but the announcer's call makes it 150% better.
I still remember this play and as a Vikings fan, I was absolutely disgusted at their lack of tackling. But Steve Young was a tough runner and he did this against a really good defense.
The blocking downfield really helped

Greatest QB Run ever. Not because of Steve but because of team blocking. Simply Amazing.
Damn I miss those days so much😭😭😭😭😭
Legend has it He still Getting Away Again....
Rest in peace Lon Simmons the voice of the bay area..
Lon Simmons one if not the greatest call
RIP Mr Simmons ❤

All these years later he is still correct; you won't see many better QB runs in your life.
Lon Simmons was the best...wish I didn't have to "Tell you goodbye"
we love Steve!
That has to be the greatest QB run and Lon Simmons calling the run in NFL history. Wow! Just magnificent.
RIP Lon Simmons

Was that Steve Young or the Burger King?
that call thou...chills.. GO NINERS!!
The Perfect Run For Survival.
This and Desean Jackson's punt return against the Giants are both in the final for best play ever on NFL.com.
The vid is about Steve Young's run. But the highlight is the call by the great Lon Simmons.
Beast mode!!!!
Great run Steve
If you count, Young had 8 downfield blockers with Jerry Rice facing the opposite direction to take out the last guy...
nobody got excited like Lon
im a pats fan my two favorite qbs are tom Brady and Steve young
Take heed modern receivers: look who's down field, throwing the last block to free up Young. Why, it's only the greatest receiver of them all, Jerry Rice, Flash 80 himself.
Almost fumbles and trips himself at the end, yet jukes 11 players in the process. Amazing
Gimme this over a 5 yard dump to Edelman any day.
Wow
he gets away he gets away he gets away again!!!
great an, great placer.
Those defenders coulda used some of Jerry Rice’s stickum
OUTSTANDING downfield blocking. holy moly
what is the song in the background?
5 years late, but it's Down but not out, by David Robidoux
@rodneyateam no, rathman missed both those guys, they just dove when steve cut left
Mmmmman, I love this guy! No homo.
The Vikes can make anyone look great. Always have. As a Vikings fan, I hate them so much and it's the same thing every year.
Purple people eaters.. Doesn't anyone know the game anymore?
Yeah Tahsuka thats an excellent comment! I fully agree.
INCREDIBLE BLOCKING.
epic story.
Great but did y'all see that hustle by number 62 and number 44 took out three defenders with one cut block.
STEVE YOUNG described by Hall of Famer LON SIMMONS!!
Tom Rathmans block took out 3 tacklers
3 people didn't get away again
Why did they superimpose Steve Young over that great run by the king?
As awesome as that run was, people still tease the hell out of Steve for tripping near the end zone, lol.
chokernick is making steve young look great
we gave Smith 7 years, you're only gonna give the kid less than 2?
Monty Stevenson smith had the worst o-line, worst coordinators and coaches. kap has continuity and he regressed.
mja49ers1 wow, you know thats the defense's fault? hb colin throwing the dumbest interceptions in a crucial game and him regressing throughout a full season?

"You won't see any better runs in your life than that" lol.... Mike Vick and Lynch?
Because they can definitely predict the future.
Dumbass...
Of course I know, just thought I would bring it up :p
He said many not any and he's right.

how is he faster than vick in madden
Is Steve Young part Black?
He MUST be right? No way a full blooded WHITE man from Utah could be THAT athletic! He MUST be part black! LMAO
Nah.
I hate it wen white boys fight its just embarrassing
+Sports Guy Yeah, those "embarrassing" white boys dominating boxing and mma.
Eric Matterson yeah his hairs a little course
F*****BadA** Run
Pffft! Mahomes does stuff like this every other week.
Go 49ers
Still makes me want to puke!…Vikings fan..:)
Terrible tackling also.
Not trying to sound like a hater......but there were a bunch of really lazy tackles in there. Young did get pretty lucky on that play. I just wouldn't consider this a "great" run, especially by today's standards.
who are you going by in "todays standards" colin kaepernick??? 😂
