Cut out the best part about Joe pointing out to Harris Barton that John Candy was in the audience
From a distance of 110+ yards away.
My favorite 49er announcer of all time Lon Simmons calling one of the greatest 49er drives of all time engineered by my favorite 49er of all time Joe Montana. Can't ask for much more!
There will never be a Super Bowl ending like this. Montana is a natural quarterback!!! And, he lives in my heart as the best quarterback there's ever been!
It's happened already, Eli Manning in SuperBowls 42 and 46 against New England, and Ben Rapistburger against Arizona in SuperBowl 43.
Michael Carranza haha I'm a Steelers fan but lol
Michael Carranza Not like Montana. Montana in the time crunch. Montana at his best! Montana! Joe Montana is the best quarterback of all time.
blicksflicks
Eli Manning 12 point under dog vs patriots considered one of the greatest team ever killing their chances of a perfect 19-0 season.
This game, Joe and the Niners were favorites to win this game.
Michael Carranza I gotta see that one. But, Joe Montana is still my favorite quarterback of all time. :)
I remember watching this in the the Uk at like 2am and you knew it would happen. It was Montana's masterpiece and nothing could stop it. Wonderful.
Gary_Curtis the UK had the super bowl on live TV back then? Who knew
@@Hoodratliker It was on Channel 4, before that TV broadcast deal I went to the live screening of Super Bowl XVI 9ers vs Bengals in a Leicester Square cinema in 82, packed with US services people. It was pretty funny as the live feed included the commentators whining about getting more coffee etc while the commercials were being shown in the states. (we just saw the cameras being repositioned etc during the commercial breaks) The whole cinema was laughing at them...
Whole family in the living room, 20 people, my auntie the biggest Niner fan of all, toughest lady you’ll ever meet in tears afraid to lose, and Joe Montana does his thing. We packed into cars and headed for Broadway in the city
this is why hes the GOAT, Idc if you're brady manning or brees, Id want montana every single day of the week when it coms down to clutch final drives.
If someone ever says that to you its because they don't know about the greats montana, graham, unitas
***** yea, people tend to forget the greats of old, and claim their generation is all around better than anyone who's come before. It goes for all sports
Nah, give me brady.
I'm with ya! No one was more clutch than Joe!
Brock12186 maybe, but "the legion of boom" was lucky to have made it past green bay. They won off a lucky bounce off a dudes face mask that pushed the game to overtime. They're good but they're no steel curtain
There's only one Legend in the NFL that can lead to comebacks and his name is Joe Montana
STILL MY FAVORITE MOMENT IN SPORTS HISTORY...
Mine, too!!! Doug O'Brien's kick in Super Bowl 5 to lift the Colts over the Cowboys is fairly comparable to this ending. Really!
I will never forget John Frank's catch! I think about that catch, often. The long established skill that Joe Montana had, to throw that ball in that tight coverage: not crazy for a big flashy gain. Playing Joe Montana football. Getting those yards! That shows how Joe Montana disassembled the opponent mentally. Joe unnerved and rattled a Continent throughout his career. This, John Frank's catch! - is Unforgettable!!!!
The most underrated aspect of Montana's game, he just found ways to keep gaining yards.
The best part is the TD to Taylor. Look at how perfectly the pass is thrown, it doesn't even cause Taylor to break stride, it's as if a football fell into his arms while he was taking a jog.
I saw this on live tv in England - an made me a 49er - oh yesss.
It took 6 months for my toes to stop tapping every time I saw that touchdown!!!! And my toes had never tapped for anything before!!
Their will never be another JOE MONTANA in the history of the NFL!! He is more than the BEST.
Ice cool under such immense pressure. A genius! IMO he deserved the MVP just as much as Jerry!
They should created a new award. Give Joe Montana a Triple Crown of Excellent, AND still give Jerry Rice the MVP. I've been thinking that ever since the game happened.
Sounds too baseballish
There are a certain number of yards and first downs that only ONLY Jerry Rice could have gotten, and did get. Jerry Rice won this game. Yes, Joe is God but on this day!? They/we/I needed Jerry, too!
Or, to say, Jerry Rice was the Most Valuable Player on the field that Joe Montana needed!
+R Matrix Taylor was the unsung hero of SB XXIII.
Not even a 49ers fan or alive at this time and these calls are legendary
As a Bengals fan to my dying breath, this hurts me to the core to watch.... but damn that guy was good.
Even though I'm a Raiders fan Joe Montana proved what he was capable of when the game was closing down. Montana was the man who put the 49ers on the map, and will always be that Joe to the 49ers.
Montanas nickname should be Mr 4th quarter. Thirty-one 4th quarter comebacks in his career. This guy is truly amazing.
Ladies & Gent's....The GOAT
RIP Lon Simmons! Great call!
Joe Montana is a legend of all time quarterback.
Montana played in an era where there were no helmet to helmet fouls or roughing the passer fouls. He retired partly because he got speared by a Giants dlinemans helmet right to his back. And there was no flag thrown. If Montana was protected like QBs are today...he would have been able to have a longer career. Another thing about the having Jerry Rice and whatnot...did you guys not see how far he took the Chiefs during the end of his career? Within one game of the super bowl and twice made the playoffs and he beat Elway at mile high on Monday night, a place the chiefs had not won since 1982!! He let everybody know who Elways daddy was.
That MNF game is still one of the greatest football games ever. I call it the GOAT game cause it showed you who the real GOAT is and settled the detractors in Denver who thought Montana was only as good as the system around him. WRONG. We saw a man at the end of his career without a Walsh, without a Rice, without the "weapons" the 49ers provided him go in to Arrowhead Stadium, duel John Elway back and forth all game and still ended up making 50,000 people collectively shut up after the final pass of the game. Without a doubt, Joe Montana, either as a 49er or a Chief or even back as one of the Fighting Irish at Notre Dame, is the GOAT.
Brady idolized the right person 👍
+Nathaniel Rapelo Brady idolizes who? Zoolander?
Nathaniel no kidding his father took him to just about all of their home games.
+Jim Jimjim I see you have a sense of humor.
+Dwight Love i forgot which video but i think it was Brady's E60, I remember his father saying that they were disapointed when the 49ers didn't draft him. Meaning he wanted to be a 49er at one point
Nathaniel Rapelo The Niners took a guy from Hofstra forgot his name.
The guys on KNBR said it the best. Trying to figure out who the best QB is of all time is a waste of time. You can make arguments for a few. But what you can say is that Brady has put himself up there among the greatest. For my money, Montana is still the best, but a solid argument can be made for Brady as #2.
RIP Lon Simmons, thanks for all the memories of Giants and 49ers games on the radio. The Bay Area and sports world has lost a legend. "You can tell it goodbye!"
+stanfordite ...agreed, Lon Simmons was one of the great announcers...no doubt who he was a fan of...Giants and 49ers...Rip Lon Simmons, you gave us a lot of thrills!
That's you John at .16 seconds, right? I remember your wearing the white collar protector. You were damn good (that was a low throw). Obviously you would have to be good to play on the 'Niners.. Thanks for the replay.
Joes finest hour.
Best work of NFL films, Joe uses the music best.
el mejor simplemente el mejor
GOAT. 4/4 Superbowls in 8 years. 10TD/0INT. In an era where receivers had corners draping them and defenders could make nasty hits on QBs.
And in an era with no salary cap. Lets not forget that.
11TD/0int
1:30 Joe Montana throws a 10 yard touchdown pass to John Taylor
Rip Lon Simmons
I don't recall Joe Montana ever needing a Kicker to win a Super Bowl, and look at that. There's Joe hitting John Taylor in the end zone to seal the deal....... any argument there Patriots fans?
Stickum or cap gate ring a bell? #TaintedEmpire
TB wouldn't have lasted half a season in that era. stickum wasn't used Rice's entire career. you clowns that use that try and seem as though Rice used that shit throughout his career.
Awesome thanks for sharing
The greatest drive-long radio call in NFL history: Lon Simmons, Super Bowl XXIII, on the San Francisco 49ers Radio Network.
When he earned his name "Joe Cool"
Ball Hard like a 49er :)
Pretty sure I read somewhere even Brady was a big 49er fan and idolizes and found inspiration when he was young from Joe Montana and Steve Young. I think Brady is a great QB but he's definitely not Joe Cool!
i heard the 9ers seen John Candy before that drive lol
Montana > Brady, no debate. Brady's 4 wins have been disputed (Tuck Rule, spygate) Brady lost twice to the same team, and has thrown 4 INTs in the Super Bowl. Joe Cool never lost or threw an INT.
If you wanna say montana is better than brady fine but to say there's no debate is absolutely retarded. I'm not even gonna respond to the nonsense you said after that because its not even worth responding to.
tyakack There is only one QB who compares to Montana and that is Johnny Unitas.
I think it's 6 ints and 2 off this SB.
stanfordite yeah Johnny u won a lot of sbs....he wasn't even starting in the one vs the jets pshhh
bvswtwolves21 Unitas = father of the modern day QB position and revolutionary of the sport.
Note to Johnny Cactus below. It's odd that you failed to mention Joe Montana's first Super Bowl, on you two item list. Though not mentioned often, as most of the earlier Super Bowls aren't, Super Bowl XVI (16) is on the list of the top 5 Super Bowls. A powerhouse display of the Mighty Bill Walsh, the Supreme Joe Montana, and the Hardballering 49ers. This SB is as superior as any Super Bowl you may favor. It cannot be guaranteed excluded from any "best of Joe Montana" list. 1) The Catch, 2) SB XVI, and 3) the winning drive of SB XXIII.
#16 ALL TIME QB
Who here still thinks Joe Montana is the greatest?
4-0 in the 80s > 5-2 in the 2000s
a few jaded haters who will never face facts. Anyone whose opinion matters know Brady is GOAT
Alex M Brady or should I say Shady is a cheater who should be stripped of his rings and banned from football for life. Montana is better because he's undefeated and as a young Coach Bombay was told in the opening of the Mighty Ducks, "it's not worth playing if you can't win!" You lose one Super Bowl and you should be run out of the league also like Coach Boone was gonna lose his job if he lost even a single game in Remember the Titans.
Chris Weglein 6-3 > 4-0
you cut out the best part when they talked about seeing john candy in the other end zone
And Brady has officially taken the crown as the GOAT from his own childhood hero ... CRAZY!!
No he hasn't. Montana never lost or threw an INT in the Super Bowl. Brady went a decade between wins and in that span lost twice to the same team. That puts him out of the conversation. Montana's wins were never tarnished by Spygate, the Tuck Rule, or Deflategate..
stanfordite neither are Brady' s. You only think they're tarnished because you're a hater. Brady did it with different players because of the salary cap and did it 10 years later when everyone said the dynasty was over. Thats even more impressive than winning a fourth in a short time period with the same players and when he was in his prime. Brady is the best now. Welcome to the 21st century
Dan Charpentier Yes they are. The Rams are the REAL 2001 champs. The fix was in after 9/11. Montana had different supporting casts as well. Brady choked twice to Eli and the Giants. Terry Bradshaw and Steve Young are both better than Brady, The only QB who compares to Joe is Johnny Unitas. The salary cap needs to go the way of the dodo. Fuck small markets. Get your brain back in the 20th Century where it belongs. Brady also won this year because he's white and black QBs are NOT allowed to win Super Bowls. They're not smart enough to read a defense. If I were commissioner instead of Goodell, then Brady would be stripped of at least two Super Bowls and Belichek would be banned for life like Pete Rose. Brady deserves another ACL tear.
stanfordite Lol your fucking crazy. I can imagine you crying when you saw Brady turning into GOAT by winning his 4th Superbowl
stanfordite dont be so jealous
Their finest hour.

Classic Montana is the greatest QB in history if you don't think that's true you didn't watch him in the 80's and in 1990 if you don't think he's the best QB ever something is wrong with you
brady> didnt ever have rice...
bvswtwolves21 joe faced the 85 bears. The best defense of all time. Brady face a severely injured Legion of boom. Learn how to spell and then come talk to me. Brady is not clutch and is not better face it. He himself has only won 1 superbowl. Come talk to me when you can make a sentence.
Brady has more records suck it poop
bvswtwolves21 records? I mean he does play in a pass happy league. When montana played it was run first pass second. So I would expect Brady to have more records.
never... so you're just questioning facts now well unlike you I actually base my knowledge on facts not opinions like you. If you like you can search google "2011 patriot defense ranks" and check for yourself. Choked oh you mean left the field with the lead twice hoping his defense would make a stop like they should phew atleast malcom butler finally got the memo
Montana already had 2 Super Bowl rings & 3 Pro Bowls before Jerry Rice was even drafted to 49ers. Stop it. Your ignorance about football is evident.
john candy shouldve been MVP
Lon Simmons...best ever.
LOL I can't even compare him to A. Smith right now.
pats fan but still: 1. montana 2. brady 3. elway
Montana = G O A T
Yep that's him
I love my team!
Bengals 49ers rematch this year?
Typo-edit: Deleted the word "guaranteed." Accidentally tapped in.
MVP
Pete Carroll this is how you do it lol
Pete Carroll should be banned from the NFL for life because he payed Reggie Bush to play college football.
@theleonbillion what? what does what i said have anything to do with any other QB besides elway, or any other game besides this superbowl?
tom brady is the next joe montana
If you have a good quarterback your team will be good...
0:56
Montana Throws a pass to Rice
nice language . . . do you have trouble reading? the answer to your question is directly under the video.
what film is this?
Put Joe Montana on today's Patriots, and they would have two more rings.
Just telling the truth.
George - Montana's in bed crying.
montana's greatest or second greatest dont get me wrong. but i really dont see how it was joe montana at his best in this last drive. i mean his recievers did 70% of the work...
@theleonbillion wow dude, very nice point.
I think margin of victory says it all... biggest margin of victory by Pats 4 pts. Lowest marging of victory by 49ers 4 pts (this game) then followed 45 pts the most ever.
I think Brady is close but his team won the game even his 4th if Butler don't int they likely lose. His two loses are pretty bad 07 team (if won would given Brady 5 SBs and they only 18-0) I know undefeated yadi ya, Montana led one of four 17-1 seasons only Brady led one without a SB.
Brady had the best O and only had 14 pts... 1 TD for most the game it was horrendous showing and NYG played with heart but they were a wildcard even Favre scored more points on them and send it to OT.
Brady has tuck rule and all these FG wins. 49ers straight up destroyed teams to SB. Montana is the closest ever to a three-peat and only a gruesome some say rightly so dirty hit ended that in a close game they were winning given today's rule that illegal hit don't happen and holding doesn't happen he likely gets 6 SBs in this era.
Omg ppl Tom Brady and Montana are both great. But Montana didn't have a salary cap like Brady does. He has had so many different teams not really any big name wr till what welker and moss and they didnt even win the dam super bowl at that time. Plus common knowledge people Brady has won with less and Montana well come on one word is RICE!!! But Montana is the man though I guess I jus felt like sharing the info lol
He only had rice for his last two super bowl wins, and still got the mvp in one of those. He never threw a SB interception, and is second only to steve young(6) for TD'S thrown in a single SB game with (5). Brady doesnt touch him, brady has thrown interceptions, and took 6 SB appearances to break Montana's career SB TD record. Brady is great but Montana is the goat.
No monsterous defenses against Brady yet. . . .Brady doesn't need to roll out and throw. Just sit in the pocket and throw 3 yards after reading the other teams play sheets.
Brady has more playoff wins than 26 NFL franchises in the modern-era .. Argument over
Brady's coach cheated and the Cheatriots should give their rings back.
Well Brady has been playing longer then joe montana did.
+Connor Smith Montana played from 1979-1994 and Brady from 2000-2015. That's the same amount of time.
El Más grande
@VampireYoshi Amen to that
Both guys are paid and probably set for life. They dont need tv like we need them to pass time in our mundane lives
LON!
Music? Anybody know?
NFL films?
Drive to Glory
@@fortynights1513 Thank you 🙏🏽👍🏽
The only time in my life I enjoyed football was this game. Now I don't watch it at all.
John Taylor: Hey, my catch should've been part of the Catch series along with Dwight Clark, Terrell Owens and Vernon Davis.
Well, it was a great catch, but it wasn't at its highest point like Clark's or had to take a lick in the end zone like T.O. or Vernon.
no.1
and no cheating
@Reyrocksall I tend to root for them as well, after all the down years they've had to endure. Something in me keeps saying..."If only this could've been against the 2007 Patriots..." Arrogance...meet the Greatest Of All Time.
And he's still the greatest of all time.
Joe Cool, stopped a would be kidnapper from kidnapping his grandson
@Reyrocksall
least it wasnt the browns this time
i think you mean john taylor. john frank didnt play on offense that much. obscure player to mention.
49ers showed how classless they was in the broncos game and then make Montana leave and then have a winning season with harbaugh and make him leave, moral of the story once classless always classless!!!
Greg Hill hey they were in the midst of a QB controversy and Walsh wanted to avoid this so he felt Montana was getting old and he was proven right after the Chiefs were blitzed by Buffalo in the '93 AFC Championship game.Montana said that "He was getting too old for playing football" the final score was 44-9!!!!!
+Dwight Love
Montana took a team with marginal talent to 4 playoff games including an AFC Championship Game. At age 38, he had one of his best seasons since 1990, the year he won NFL MVP and took the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game.
Walsh was wrong. If Montana had been allowed to stay in San Francisco he probably would've won another Super Bowl with the talent those teams had. It made sense to start Steve Young, especially after how well he played when Montana was out hurt, but you can't tell me Montana wouldn't have been able to come back and be successful there with the talent the 49ers had.
@DejectedDonkey I'm sorry, but this is a ridiculous statement. "Just average". I'm sure 95% of NFL teams would love to get stuck with an average QB like Tom Brady. Not that Brady is Montana, obviously. But: 'average'? They were just in the Super Bowl. Give me a break.
A lot has happened since u made this comment... Brady has appeared in 4 more Super Bowls and won 3.... aka he’s 6-3
joe montana was a system QB.
80s 90s football vs. 2000s completely different tougher game back then.
And both bengals games really wasn't won by 49'ers more than they was lost by the Bengals, they beat themselves!!!
Greg Hill the Bengals as you know were the only team that gave Montana and company problems in the SB everyone else they blew them out!!!!!
so then 3 or 4 of the Pats SBs were lost by the other team, not won by the pats.
Tom Brady is the G.O.A.T.
brady is the best
sir smoking crack is not good for you
2MuchRandom Mixed with codeine...
P Evans both really great qbs and I hate comparing the two. The way I see it montana was the man from his time line and brady is the man right now.
+23dlc But who is the best QB from the alternate timeline where the Pats don't cheat and their fans aren't pencil- necked Hamptons weekenders?
Jim Jimjim um stickum rice??
Montana did need THE CHEATER Jerry "Stickum" Rice
WOW look at all the pressure on him! What an amazing comeback! Oh wait. There was no pressure on him the entire drive. Especially on that last throw. I think I saw just one hand touch him the entire drive.
Overrated
You're an idiot. Go slap yourself. He had most of every meaningful passing record for many years. He's the greatest of all time and his peers all agree with that statement. Haters like you don't know squat. That's why you're on here watching HIS highlights and not anyone from your team. lmao
You said he had most of the meaningful passing records for many years? And I'm the idiot? Please enlighten me on these records.
And I'm watching his highlights because I'm a football fan, not a hater.
If you were ACTUALLY a football fan then you would already know about his records. He had more passing yards in the 80's than any other QB in any decade EVER for starters. He was 4 - 0 in the Super Bowl. He threw 12 TDs and no interceptions in the Super Bowl. He was Super Bowl MVP 3 times. That's just the tip of the iceberg. You can pick up your hater-ade on your way out the door.
That 1st "record" is unimpressive since Joe started all 10 years of that decade. If Marino or Fouts had started all those years it would have been one of them.
Montana:
-Never had a 4000yd season. Didn't need to, had a great team.
-Only once passed for more than 30 TDs (31). Didn't need to, had a great team.
-Never felt the pressure of the WHOLE team depending on him through the WHOLE season like Marino and Elway had. Didn't need to, had a great team.
-Got to play in a revolutionary new offence (West Coast) that defenses had not figured out at the time, and still have trouble stopping to this day.
-Got to play for the Genius Bill Walsh.
-Weak arm
-Average release
Anyway, which play on this drive could no other QB have done? The fact is, he was never in any danger and had plenty of time on the clock (3:10). Now if he did this at the 2 minute warning that would be a different story.
Dude, you're dumb beyond words. He didn't put up huge numbers. Peyton manning put up all those numbers you're talking about and he did it with teams that were as stacked as the Niners were in any given year that Montana was there. How many Super Bowls did he win? 1. How many MVPs in the Super Bowl? Joe had 4 wins, 3 MVPs. That's because he did it playing against the best teams of the day. He put up massive win records against the best defenses of the day. They didn't win by several touchdowns but "The Comeback Kid" brought them down the field and closed out game after game over and over again. He did it in Notre Dame with a mediocre squad. He did it in San Francisco in '81 with a nobody squad. He made people better! That's what you're completely clueless about. People played better because of his confidence and skill at the position. That moron Tom Brady had to have a kicker win his Super Bowls. Montana took his team down the field over and over again in the playoffs and put the nail in the coffin. He didn't sit on the sidelines with his fingers crossed praying. He wasn't drafted until the 3rd round and then he became the greatest QB of all time according to words from the men who played against him, including the men you mentioned. You've been schooled and you're just a hater. So go play with yourself. You're on MUTE.
TOM BRADY IS BETTER THAN JOE...
Your dumber than you sound...Montana had his team core for ever....Tom play`s in the error of free agency. He play`s with what ever they give him and wins.
YOUR JUST DUMB! IDIOT! YOU PROBABLY NEVER PLAYED THE GAME. I NEVER NEW I SAID JERRY RICE WAS THE CORE OF THE TEAM. TERRY BRAD SHAW IS NOT EVEN IN THE CONVERSATION...THE RAM`S GOT SERVED IDIOT.
LOL! MEXICO YOU ARE DUMBER THEN YOU SOUND. YOUR A RACIST LIKE YOUR MOTHER AND FATHER. WEAK! I DON`T TALKING TO RACIST DUMMIES....LOL!
MONTANA 12 PRO BOWLER`S AND JUST 2...LOL!
Brady threw 2 INT, lost 2 Superbowls, spy gate, and ball deflate. If your talking about stat wise Brady is better but how they perform Montana is way better
