It was pretty funny as the live feed included the commentators whining about getting more coffee etc while the commercials were being shown in the states. (we just saw the cameras being repositioned etc during the commercial breaks) The whole cinema was laughing at them...

    I will never forget John Frank's catch! I think about that catch, often. The long established skill that Joe Montana had, to throw that ball in that tight coverage: not crazy for a big flashy gain. Playing Joe Montana football. Getting those yards! That shows how Joe Montana disassembled the opponent mentally. Joe unnerved and rattled a Continent throughout his career. This, John Frank's catch! - is Unforgettable!!!!

    Montana played in an era where there were no helmet to helmet fouls or roughing the passer fouls. He retired partly because he got speared by a Giants dlinemans helmet right to his back. And there was no flag thrown. If Montana was protected like QBs are today...he would have been able to have a longer career. Another thing about the having Jerry Rice and whatnot...did you guys not see how far he took the Chiefs during the end of his career? Within one game of the super bowl and twice made the playoffs and he beat Elway at mile high on Monday night, a place the chiefs had not won since 1982!! He let everybody know who Elways daddy was.

    • @thesentinel5523
      @thesentinel5523 5 лет назад

      That MNF game is still one of the greatest football games ever. I call it the GOAT game cause it showed you who the real GOAT is and settled the detractors in Denver who thought Montana was only as good as the system around him. WRONG. We saw a man at the end of his career without a Walsh, without a Rice, without the "weapons" the 49ers provided him go in to Arrowhead Stadium, duel John Elway back and forth all game and still ended up making 50,000 people collectively shut up after the final pass of the game. Without a doubt, Joe Montana, either as a 49er or a Chief or even back as one of the Fighting Irish at Notre Dame, is the GOAT.

Though not mentioned often, as most of the earlier Super Bowls aren't, Super Bowl XVI (16) is on the list of the top 5 Super Bowls. A powerhouse display of the Mighty Bill Walsh, the Supreme Joe Montana, and the Hardballering 49ers. This SB is as superior as any Super Bowl you may favor. It cannot be guaranteed excluded from any "best of Joe Montana" list. 1) The Catch, 2) SB XVI, and 3) the winning drive of SB XXIII.

      No he hasn't. Montana never lost or threw an INT in the Super Bowl. Brady went a decade between wins and in that span lost twice to the same team. That puts him out of the conversation. Montana's wins were never tarnished by Spygate, the Tuck Rule, or Deflategate..

    • @DCharp
      @DCharp 9 лет назад +3

      stanfordite neither are Brady' s. You only think they're tarnished because you're a hater. Brady did it with different players because of the salary cap and did it 10 years later when everyone said the dynasty was over. Thats even more impressive than winning a fourth in a short time period with the same players and when he was in his prime. Brady is the best now. Welcome to the 21st century

    • @stanfordite
      @stanfordite 9 лет назад

      Dan Charpentier Yes they are. The Rams are the REAL 2001 champs. The fix was in after 9/11. Montana had different supporting casts as well. Brady choked twice to Eli and the Giants. Terry Bradshaw and Steve Young are both better than Brady, The only QB who compares to Joe is Johnny Unitas. The salary cap needs to go the way of the dodo. Fuck small markets. Get your brain back in the 20th Century where it belongs. Brady also won this year because he's white and black QBs are NOT allowed to win Super Bowls. They're not smart enough to read a defense. If I were commissioner instead of Goodell, then Brady would be stripped of at least two Super Bowls and Belichek would be banned for life like Pete Rose. Brady deserves another ACL tear.

    I think margin of victory says it all... biggest margin of victory by Pats 4 pts. Lowest marging of victory by 49ers 4 pts (this game) then followed 45 pts the most ever.
    I think Brady is close but his team won the game even his 4th if Butler don't int they likely lose. His two loses are pretty bad 07 team (if won would given Brady 5 SBs and they only 18-0) I know undefeated yadi ya, Montana led one of four 17-1 seasons only Brady led one without a SB.
    Brady had the best O and only had 14 pts... 1 TD for most the game it was horrendous showing and NYG played with heart but they were a wildcard even Favre scored more points on them and send it to OT.
    Brady has tuck rule and all these FG wins. 49ers straight up destroyed teams to SB. Montana is the closest ever to a three-peat and only a gruesome some say rightly so dirty hit ended that in a close game they were winning given today's rule that illegal hit don't happen and holding doesn't happen he likely gets 6 SBs in this era.

    Omg ppl Tom Brady and Montana are both great. But Montana didn't have a salary cap like Brady does. He has had so many different teams not really any big name wr till what welker and moss and they didnt even win the dam super bowl at that time. Plus common knowledge people Brady has won with less and Montana well come on one word is RICE!!! But Montana is the man though I guess I jus felt like sharing the info lol

    • @skijjy1362
      @skijjy1362 9 лет назад +1

      He only had rice for his last two super bowl wins, and still got the mvp in one of those. He never threw a SB interception, and is second only to steve young(6) for TD'S thrown in a single SB game with (5). Brady doesnt touch him, brady has thrown interceptions, and took 6 SB appearances to break Montana's career SB TD record. Brady is great but Montana is the goat.

      No monsterous defenses against Brady yet. . . .Brady doesn't need to roll out and throw. Just sit in the pocket and throw 3 yards after reading the other teams play sheets.

      Greg Hill hey they were in the midst of a QB controversy and Walsh wanted to avoid this so he felt Montana was getting old and he was proven right after the Chiefs were blitzed by Buffalo in the '93 AFC Championship game.Montana said that "He was getting too old for playing football" the final score was 44-9!!!!!

      Montana took a team with marginal talent to 4 playoff games including an AFC Championship Game. At age 38, he had one of his best seasons since 1990, the year he won NFL MVP and took the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game.
      Walsh was wrong. If Montana had been allowed to stay in San Francisco he probably would've won another Super Bowl with the talent those teams had. It made sense to start Steve Young, especially after how well he played when Montana was out hurt, but you can't tell me Montana wouldn't have been able to come back and be successful there with the talent the 49ers had.

    @DejectedDonkey I'm sorry, but this is a ridiculous statement. "Just average". I'm sure 95% of NFL teams would love to get stuck with an average QB like Tom Brady. Not that Brady is Montana, obviously. But: 'average'? They were just in the Super Bowl. Give me a break.

    • @RedWhiteAndBlue4evr1

      If you were ACTUALLY a football fan then you would already know about his records. He had more passing yards in the 80's than any other QB in any decade EVER for starters. He was 4 - 0 in the Super Bowl. He threw 12 TDs and no interceptions in the Super Bowl. He was Super Bowl MVP 3 times. That's just the tip of the iceberg. You can pick up your hater-ade on your way out the door.

    • @filthyswit
      @filthyswit 10 лет назад

      That 1st "record" is unimpressive since Joe started all 10 years of that decade. If Marino or Fouts had started all those years it would have been one of them.
      Montana:
      -Never had a 4000yd season. Didn't need to, had a great team.
      -Only once passed for more than 30 TDs (31). Didn't need to, had a great team.
      -Never felt the pressure of the WHOLE team depending on him through the WHOLE season like Marino and Elway had. Didn't need to, had a great team.
      -Got to play in a revolutionary new offence (West Coast) that defenses had not figured out at the time, and still have trouble stopping to this day.
      -Got to play for the Genius Bill Walsh.
      -Weak arm
      -Average release
      Anyway, which play on this drive could no other QB have done? The fact is, he was never in any danger and had plenty of time on the clock (3:10). Now if he did this at the 2 minute warning that would be a different story.

    • @RedWhiteAndBlue4evr1
      @RedWhiteAndBlue4evr1 10 лет назад +4

      Dude, you're dumb beyond words. He didn't put up huge numbers. Peyton manning put up all those numbers you're talking about and he did it with teams that were as stacked as the Niners were in any given year that Montana was there. How many Super Bowls did he win? 1. How many MVPs in the Super Bowl? Joe had 4 wins, 3 MVPs. That's because he did it playing against the best teams of the day. He put up massive win records against the best defenses of the day. They didn't win by several touchdowns but "The Comeback Kid" brought them down the field and closed out game after game over and over again. He did it in Notre Dame with a mediocre squad. He did it in San Francisco in '81 with a nobody squad. He made people better! That's what you're completely clueless about. People played better because of his confidence and skill at the position. That moron Tom Brady had to have a kicker win his Super Bowls. Montana took his team down the field over and over again in the playoffs and put the nail in the coffin. He didn't sit on the sidelines with his fingers crossed praying. He wasn't drafted until the 3rd round and then he became the greatest QB of all time according to words from the men who played against him, including the men you mentioned. You've been schooled and you're just a hater. So go play with yourself. You're on MUTE.
