The best definition of a mix-minus, I’ve seen thus far! And the visual aids were extremely helpful. Great job!

Excellent explanation of the mixer concepts. I finally understood how to create a mix minus.

FYI, Mackie has just announced (at NAMM 2021) their Onyx series of analog mixers (Onyx8-12-16-24), which seem to have compelling features for podcasters, as they have introduced
    - full multi-track recording via USB (due to their recent announcement, I wasn't any more able to include them in this video from 7:24)
    - SD card recording
    - Bluetooth input
However, I would not recommend them for podcasters, for the following reasons:
    - there is no built in mix-minus (neither via phone, nor via USB)
    - they can only input sources via bluetooth, but cannot set up a mix-minus for a bluetooth-connected device
    - they can only record the stereo mix to an SD-card, but not the individual channels
    - Onyx 8 only has 1 Monitor output, the others only 2 - for setting up hardware-based mix-minus with the iRig2
(If you are more of a visual type of person, you can check out the MACKIE ONYX 8 compared to the ZOOM LIVETRAK L-8ˋs podcasting features here: ruclips.net/video/9MQaOvM71Wo/видео.html - watch the timestamps)
...and while these are by no means bad specs and their quality and build are no doubt stellar, however, for the price (at Sweetwater: 499 USD for the Onyx 8 - I've seen it for retail in Europe for 399 EUR) you are better off with other mixers for the price (or actually for a MUCH lower price) who have either the same or more podcasting-oriented capabilities. A full podcast equipment guide is in the works and will be released on this channel soon.

excellent!! I have the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 as well as Allen Heath ZED12FX and I use both as it means less fiddling with USB ... Focusrite is so reliable into Cubase it's not worth tinkering ... this video has helped me to nail incoming callers, fantastic ... thanks so much, your help is greatly appreciated

I want to use pc instead of mobile for zoom call, with yamaha mg10xu mixer, so is irig2 necessary if i buy a external usb sound card with 1 mic and 2 headphones like PLEXTONE GS3 to work as irig2 ? I'm doing it for a video conference in zoom or teams.

Hi, the Yamaha MG10XU mixer has USB so if you only want to participate on Zoom/Teams calls using an XLR-mic, then you don‘t need anything else. Just set your mixer as the audio source in zoom/teams an you‘re good to go.
Things get more complicated only if you want to also record these conferences. What is you goal?
      1. only to participate speaking through an XLR mic?
      2. to also record the conference call?
      3. Do you want to record it as audio only or with the video?
      4. Do you want your voice to be recorded on a separate track?

Hi there, I have a question, can I listen in studio monitors instead of headphones?

    • @PodcastMeister
      @PodcastMeister  2 года назад +1

Hi, I would not recommend it as the sound coming out from your monitors will most probably be picked up by your microphone and it would create a horrible feedback loop. (You talking into the mic -> it plays back on the monitors -> picked up by your mic again -> goes again through the monitors -> this repeats endlessly within milliseconds -> results in a loud beeping feedback from your monitors)

Hi @PodcastMeister, very cool video. I came here in hope of finding some tipps how to setup my Steinberg UR 22 mk II on my Macbook correctly so that I can use Clubhouse on iPhone with my professional headphones and microphone connected to an iRig and the audio interface. Because it seems there's some feedback on my mic whenever someone else is speaking and someone told me I have to look for "Mix Minus". But I still don't know where to change my settingw so I don't have that nasty feedback problem anymore. Can you help maybe?

Hi, I‘m currently working on a tutorial specifically addressing your question. However, I‘m afraid you won’t be able to set it up with the Steinberg UR22 as you cannot create custom mixes for its outputs, which would be needed to set up mix-minus (remove the Clubhouse room‘s audio from what is sent back into Clubhouse to eliminate that nasty feedback). For certain Steinberg interfaces the dspMixFX tech would theoretically solve it, but the UR22 is unfortunately not supporting it.
So you would need a different hardware: either any simple analog mixer with an Aux-send port (like the Mackie Mix8 or the Soundcraft Notepad 8FX) or - and it would be my clear recommendation - the Zoom Podtrak P4. I will explain their setup in detail in the upcoming video. Pls subscribe and share the channel! 😉

@@PodcastMeister Thanks for the quick reply. What a bummer. I'll then have a look on your channel from now on and hope that I'll find something inexpensive (because I plan to use it only for Clubhouse, not for anything else). Quick follow-up-question: just found a PreSonus Studio 24c again my employer gave me a while ago but I never used it so far. But I think it's also "useless" for my special purpose right?

@rocketboy, unfortunately Presonus does not let you customize its outputs either. I’ll make sure to include some recommendations in the video as well - need to think of the best options.
