We took it for granted that there would be a never ending supply of really great quality humour in those days, there were so many excellent comics, Dave Allen, Tommy Cooper, and of Course Arthur Lowe and the Dads Army team, to name only a few.
    Sadly we were wrong.

If you like Science Fiction/Comedy, besides the well known "Red Dwarf" series on TV, have you watched "Dark Star" - now famous Director John Carpenter's first (Low budget) movie that he directed, of which I have a DVD of at home, but I believe has also been posted elsewhere on RUclips. Another good black & white silent comedy film, full of now famous stars is "Home of your own", but copyright law won't allow me to include it in my collection.
      Regards Terry

such a roll of honour of the greats of the 70's. Often wondered if they relaised when signing up for it that it would become a classic in its time.

There's also a 'full-length' (55 mins) silent comedy from '65 called "San Ferry Ann" with an all-star cast.
Rodney Bewes, Wilfred Bramble, Joan Sims, Ron Moody, Barbara Windsor, Brian Murphy and many more.
Well worth the watch if you can find it. Used to be here on YT but seems to have been removed :(

Yes, I remember watching the original, and the RUclips version.
There is also a silent full length film called "Home of Your Home" with an All Star cast from the Past,
which is very funny also, but when I Ist put it on YouTuBe it got taken down because of a Copyright breach!
There might be extracts from it on RUclips I don't know.

Hi, I am looking for a short silent comedy I watched as a kid in the 1980s, with barely any dialogue. The song "she works hard for the money" by Donna Summer plays a couple of times in the background. I think it is British. I remember a woman with a small dog (perhaps a Yorkshire terrier with a big pink ribbon on the head) named Spider. "Spider" is the only word being said.
In the beginning, the woman parks a convertible in an illegal place, next to a large police officer's sign/billboard.
The police officer (I think wearing a brown/blue uniform) lives inside the sign and if you change something in the details of the sign, the police officer change with it. If you take his pants off the sign, in reality, he will have no pants.
The woman leaves the dog in the car. The police officer comes to give her a ticket and sees the dog in the car. He tries to return the dog to the woman.
I remember a couple of scenes:
    1. There is a statue of Cupid in the park and every time someone holds an apple, the statue shoots an arrow, and everyone claps.
    2. Someone repeatedly moves the clock hand on the TV. A mother repeatedly feeds her baby (because she relies on the clock on the TV) until he gets fat and becomes grown-up after a couple of scenes of feeding. The watchmaker constantly needs to change the time on all the clocks in his store until he got angry and broke all the clocks. Someone constantly needs to change the clock hand at the tower with a large pole, until the clock finally falls from the tower.
    3. ATM hands out money. Literally, there is a hand coming out from the ATM that gives money.
    4. Two men are moving a glass window in the street until it breaks.
    5. Someone is run over/fell on him and he becomes flat (a poster of himself).
    6. The police officer enters a TV studio where a video clip is filmed and does all sorts of nonsense in the studio.
eventually, the dog was reunited with the woman.
