Most comedy of the past is totally forgettable nonsense ,just like today ,looking back you find 99% of radio ,stage and TV comedy had been lost to the Finnish bin of time
Amazing soliloquies, sharp, satirical dialogue, Michael Crawford played a similar role later in Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em, although the character was different. And you don’t hear Charlie saying ‘ooh, Betty…’
I'm not going to watch any of these a second time, but Henry McGee was in one of these first year episodes in a different role , before he became a regular in Season 2.
Thatcher was waiting in the corridors chomping at the bit waiting to dismantle the power of the unions and forever strip the workforce of their rights . Only now are we seeing a resurgence of unions wanting fairer working conditions and pay after years of tory rule which has led to a polarised socio economic disaster in the UK.

brilliant classic show Those days are long gone now
The days when in any industry you could finish on a Friday afternoon and start at a new company on the Monday morning.
I watched Charlie Drake from when I was 9 years old. This is still very entertaining!
Drake was classed as a comedian but you don't achieve this level of timing and delivery without being a very fine actor.
Well he was an actor, a singer and writer besides a comedian hence his talent shown here.
Charlie Drake - and I am being perfectly serious about this - was a genius.
Yes he was a comedy actor ,Morecambe and wise,Chaplin, norman wisdom all great actors.

It's a comedy!
What a reminder of how dire tv was in those days. I remember how I hated the sound of this trash on our tv in my childhood.
I could never stand him.
Why are you watching this then?
How do you know I am? @@chimera8421
