I rediscovered this show only last week. I loved it when I was a child, was very much unaware of the class differences highlighted in it. In some ways Mildred reminds me of Hyacinth Bucket, pronounced Bouquet, but George is a lot more vocal than Richard and unashamed of who he is.

This is the British spin off of, “Man About the House,” and we Americans copied “Man…” as, “Three’s Company.” “George and Mildred,” is our, “Roper’s,” the scripts are near identical in both American series. More or less plug and plays, with only a few changes to make them more relatable to American audiences.

Those were happy days, apart from the fear of nuclear obliteration, although this seems to be the case now. These two were just fantastic, They may have played working class people, but they did not make fun of us. The proletariat are often just made fun of and put down, This I have never liked the middle class playing working class people with no idea of what life is really like.
