I think that by playing the theme of the doctor, meistro was able to trick the tardis into thinking they were the doctor and messing around with its control.

I really enjoyed this episode, but I still think the best thing about it is that it made me look up The Wicked Lady which it turns out is an amazing film. (The 40s one, the remake obviously I won't go near as it's a Cannon film.)

Just an FYI, but the devil's chord is an actual thing. It wasn't exactly a lost chord, but the church did ban it for a while for superstitious reasons
I believe Murray Gold also was in The Voyage of the Damned.
