Don’t forget to check the oil level after you pour in the new oil and check for leaks! It’s also always a good idea to make sure the old oil filter gasket is on the old filter and not the engine block after you take it off.

1/17/22. Thanks for taking time to produce this. I've done it for several generations of Honda's, but not yet our 2021 Civic EX. Your video was super helpful showing me the removal of the "access pan." I might add that in 50 years of changing my cars' oil filters, I've always used the method of tightening the new filter such that after one spins the filter clockwise so it first touches "home" (resistance), then one hand-tightens it 3/4 of a turn further. That should feel snug. I've never had leakage doing it that manner. Then next time you remove it, you can probably remove it with a strong counter-clockwise hand grip, without needing a tool. A tool would be ok, but sometimes it's hard to get a filter-removing tool to fit.
I appreciate the kind words! Glad the video was of help to you :) I will try doing it without the oil filter tool next time and hand tightening it. Thank you for letting me know👍🏼
@@RevolveAuto I use this same method of tightening on the oil filter…3/4 to 1 full turn after it makes contact with the engine block. But I still need a tool to remove it the next time an oil change is done. Maybe the engine heat causes it to tighten up even more? 🤷🏻♂️
@@carlovanrijk4039The rubber ring works itself in, because it contracts all the time by the engine heating up, cooling down and so on. It is totally normal and not Civic-related.

I measured exactly 3.7 quarts for my civic with the 1.5L when changing the oil and found that it was too low. The oil level on the dipstick was right at or below the minimum line. I had to add some to bring it up.
NGL I cried when I saw the oil leaking out from the main seal, car is a lemon, I've owned it since August and I've already spent like 5k on parts and labour
I think you should be fine. The oil dilution problem is very minimal, and the only way you would know it is occurring is if your oil smells like gas when you do an oil change.
supertech oil is just fine for your honda. i personally would not spend the extra on the kn filter . ignore the olm and change it every 5k and it will last for a long time
@@noobwow2009 lower mileage runs/town driving will cause your oil life monitor to alert you at 15% at lower mileage. I typically drive 95% hwy, and the olm 15% alerts me at 7500 miles. It’s all in the distance and type of driving you do.
When putting 3.7 quarts in the engine. Always run your car for about 5 minutes to check to see if the oil drops. If it does drop then add more oil. Sometimes the manual says it holds 3.7 quarts but some civic takes almost 4 quarts.
CURTISBRANDON, it depends on the type of driving that you do. If you do a lot of city stop-n-go driving, the oil won’t last nearly as long as open highway driving.
Depends on how many miles u have it set to it has nothing to do with how you drive or how much oil you have in it ,the more miles u put it in the percentage will go down depending on how many miles you have the interval set to
Level is ideal but ramps work just fine for the job. The oil drain bolt is on the side facing down when going on ramps so oil drains faster when using ramps and shouldn’t have any old oil left inside if you let it drain for a few minutes.

Why use kitchen measuring cup? The side of the jug has volume markers on there. Logically 1/3 jug is 2 qts underfill and add to correct amount and verify with dip stick. Approx volume is what your removed.
10th gen civics (and probably some older models too) have an automatic maintenance minder that will pop up on the dash when you’re due for an oil change.
Advice: Oil filter first, drain plug second. You put the new filter on and then you can drain the oil. You can let it sit there for a long time to make sure as much oil as possible gets out, and afterwards you just have to clean the small spot at the drain plug + put it back in (new gasket ring to use). Saves time in that order.
Hope this helps! Enjoy :)
