Logan - Caravan Of Garbage

- We're finishing off the Wolverine Trilogy with what's considered its strongest entry, Logan. A reflection on aging, loss, grief, parenthood and what it means to stab a bunch of people with your clone daughter. Terrific performances all round and an incredible ending to Hugh Jackman's tenure as the titular character. It's a shame we'll never see him again because he died. Thanks for checking out our Caravan Of Garbage review

It is crazy that Wolverine has been in 10 movies and his arc in 5 of them is someone asking for his help and him going "I'm no hero!"
Well, you see, His arc goes like this - Someone asks him to be a hero, he says no, then he reluctantly does some heroics, remembers how much he doesn't like it, and tries to retire again.
@@epicbruhmoment6985 people like repetition. Look at how many people complain about what they did to the Hulk. They just want a mindless monster, rampaging over and over again.
To be fair that’s also wolverine in the comics most of the time too lmao.
Like some kind of… Shane
@@TheJesselopez1981It's not people who love repetition. It's the studios. The executives who run Hollywood want a safe return on investment. If something works once, keep doing it.
The prize is the grand return of guy who shouts Rodney but on a bigger Statue of Liberty
the guy who shouts rodney also looks like sabertooth... connection?
Yes bring him back
Rodney!
James is the JJ Abrams of jokes. Masterful set up of Thoughts and Prizes and absolutely no idea how to pay it off.
Like JJ, he leaves that up to his fans about whom he cares not a jot.
@@Triliflops his joke this time is an actual mystery box.
The final prize is the return of the Rodney! compilation and green trivia.
Fun fact the original Rodney was named after his great great grand piano which was painted blue after being inspired by the working title Blue Harvest for Star Wars Return of the Jedi
and blue harvest
RODNEYYYYY
Bring it back!
Yesssss
Bloody hell, Lawrence did an amazing job on this video. The claw stab at Logrivia and the healing was the icing on the cake.
James: How do you feel about Double Jackman?
Me, in my car at nine am, all by myself: Two Jackman!
Twobert Jackman
Corn of Cobman
Wolverine but in The Prestige. He guts Christian Bale after the death of his wife. 20 minutes in and out.
@@patrickpjsullivanYeah but then there wouldn't be the classic teeth acting that Maso liked
@@BonJoviBeatlesLedZep Paraphrasing but of love James saying "you killed his wife how 'bout ya back up a bit".
I saw this in theaters, and it was the strangest experience. Everyone there seemed to be expecting a standard marvel movie, so they were laughing all the way through
I specifically remember the scene where he was beating up the truck everyone was losing their minds, and all I could think was, "What the heck is wrong with you all? He just lost one of his closest friends and had to bury him on his own."
I remember when I saw it in theaters one scene people laughed at was when he died and it showed Laura crying with snot coming out of her nose
i mean that is a funny scene in a dark sorta way. Obviously the context behind the scene is tragic but the scene itself, a man angrily beating a broken down car with a shovel and the immediately collapsing from exhaustion, is funny.
@@thewerewolff7248Not really. I think it’s just a reflection of the brain rot our world faces, and any sanctity of life has just drastically diminished in recent years.
My dad passed away a few weeks after this movie came out and since then seeing X23 hold her dads hand at the end hurts even more.
Cried just reading this comment. So sorry for your loss. It made me so sad rewatching this last night to think about how Laura never had any other moment to call her father "daddy" and give him a hug except for his dying moments.
The XCU also never did Daken, and the movie doesn't explore his grief over losing Rogue apart from one moment where he sees her in the comic and looks sad. So it hit extra extra hard seeing him give Laura that final advice and her crying.
Dafne Keen is a goddamn superstar and I'm #JeckiJam for life
I’m sorry to hear that.
Something I found interesting about the production of this movie is that James Mangold tried to make sure the sets were untouched between takes. This was difficult with the outdoor sections, with the wind shifting the foliage around. He had several members of the crew set up a large tarp to harvest what scene integrity they could between takes. By coincidence the tarp was a shade of blue to match the skies in the background, leading to the working title of this movie being “Blue Harvest.”
Unbelievable 😂
Yep, this comment wins!
I knew what this was after the first two words
I fall for this every god dam time and I love it
Took me until the word harvest to realize where this was going
The prize should totally be the Snake Eyes review or a CoG episode on it.. So we'll obviously win next week and everyone should rewatch the film in preparation for that.
The movie where he gets his signature snake eyes? Sign me up! Maybe we'll even see how he got those luscious snake lips.
@@oscarm4095 No, it's the film where he loses at a dice game!
GI Joe or Nicholas Cage? Lol

They already did Snake Eyes. You missed it.
Maybe the prizes were the friends we made along the way
Maybe the prizes were the thoughts we had along the way, not me though I never have any thoughts when watching these videos
Wouldn't that be nice

I didn't make any
Na, thats the one piece
The turning of the cross to an X was SOOOOO GOOD
Yeah about that lol 😂😂
I thought that was really heavy handed ngl lmao
Remember when The Office (UK) came out and everyone in Hollywood was like, "get Ricky Gervais in everything?" Only to realise their mistake and that it was actually Stephen Merchant who should have gotten all the roles.
@@GroundhogJay I think you mean Carl Pilkington should have gotten all the roles. He’s an icon.
@@GroundhogJay Gervais’ performance in The Office is still pretty amazing. But it’s Merchant’s writing that made that show work. Turns out Ricky is just as much of a prick in real life as the characters he portrays, where as Steven is just a really funny bloke.
@@MitchJT Touché. I can't really dispute either of those points.
Money for old rope.
@@MrOtistetrax Stephen is amazing and very underappreciated
Thank you for covering this trilogy! I wish there were other movies with my favorite character Wolverine, but I’m glad he at least got to spend some time with the bald guy in this one.
@mrblickles he is my favorite character too, and it's spelled Wolferine, because he has the powers and haircut of a wolf.
I watched the X-Men trilogy and then Origins and then this within the span of a few days and it really does feel like a wasted opportunity to not have ever gone FULL X-Men with it at all. Though between '97, Deadpool and Wolverine, and possibly Secret Wars, Marvel seems to be giving us exactly that.
I've only seen First Class and Logan. Based on James rants about the timeline over the years, I feel comfortable keeping it at just those 2 movies.
They're probably the best ones tbh
Days of Future Past is a pretty awesome one too. Not as perfect as those two but the performances there are insane.
Days of future past is probably the best one and x2 isn’t too bad.
I’d say I’d rank from best to worst
Days of future past
Logan
X2
First class
The wolverine
X3
Rise of apocalypse
X1
Dark phoenix
Xmen origins
Days of future past is not good. It was frustrating, dull and disappointing and marks the start of the downward spiral by starting a number of trends eg overly focused on mystique not because of her character but the actor trending, decade hoping, ditching characters established in previous movies so it felt like things never progressed.
It is a movie with a lot of great scenes but it is not a great or even good movie.
I've long held that Days of Future Past is the best X-Men as a movie, but Logan is the best movie that is X-Men. A layered film dealing with trauma, aging, legacy and family, with rewarding action that contributes to the narrative and fanservice that doesn't feel like winks and nods. Keene is a great actress, and any flaws in her performance are covered by editing to make her the heart of the movie. A powerful sendoff to a character that for many years has just wanted to die.
DOFP is the best X-Men movie Logan is the best Wolverine movie
What a nice 'post-apocalypse'!!
Casinos. Comic Books. Working hospitals. Boats are still on sale.
It was only an apocalypse for mutants
Robo self driving trucks almost killing you, energy drinks altering your DNA too much corn. So not too far off from now 😅
So, new vegas?..
An apocalypse doesn’t HAVE to divulge into mad max everytime.
@@Yan-tz9pn new Vegas is set over 200 years later. Irrelevant
@@goldenfiberwheat238 still technically post apocalypse.
Were technically living in a post apocalypse, since the apocalypse that killed the dinosaurs happened in the past lol
I think one of the big things helping this movie was that it was the first movie where we get a R rated Wolverine going full berserker rage.
I like that it was Dafne and Hughs decision to have X-23 only speak Spanish when she talks to Logan.
Originally she was gonna speak English when she wasn't otherwise mute, but Hugh thought it would be interesting if he had to understand her from context clues.
Leading to the working title of this film being Blue Harvest.
@@MitchJTnah this isn't the one.
The Hugh/Richard E Grant joke from early in the vid scrambled by brain and I thought you meant Hugh Grant decided X-23 would speak Spanish to Logan
except she doesn't only speak spanish. She speaks lots of english to logan. "charles says you are dying. That you want to die" "yeah what else he say?" "not to let you" and "you were having a nightmare" "do you have nightmares?" "si people hurt me" "mine are different. i hurt people" and then of course theres "such a nice man" and "then i'll be fine". Hell i think she speaks more english to him than spanish
A true prize would be covering the High School Musical series for caravan of garbage
When logan says "so this is how it feels", what does everyone think he meant? Having a family? Feeling true love? Succeeding in being a hero? Actual death?
Yes.
All of them
Correct
Peace
The serious answer is:
Earlier in the movie, when they're with that family on that farm, Xavier tells Logan "This is what life looks like. A home, people who love each other, a safe place. You should take a moment and feel it."
As he was dying, Logan felt those things for the first time. Hence, "So this is what it feels like."
I love that about Logan (that and it’s got one of the best trailers ever) it’s meta af. The movies we watched were just movies, the comics were just comics. This is the reality of that world. And to have that chemistry between Jackman and Stewart over nearly 20 years - it does elevate it above just a superhero swan song for the most part.
I feel that the needle wolverine sticks himself with is symbolic of the chicken and broccoli he had to eat. nothing to do with loads of gear.
Did Hugh Jackman get super roided up? I recently shotgunned the X-Men Trilogy, then watched Origins Wolverine and Logan and tbh it never seemed particularly like that was the case.
Maybe it's the middle movies where he looks more roided.
We didn’t win any prizes, but at least James has us in his thoughts
I won a boat!
Some stoner nicked it tho'.
Yeah, but they're bad thoughts. He mocks us, he hates us!
The 4 Alien movies? Prometheus and Covenant erasure is happening and I am onboard
They are actually erasing only Alien and Aliens
I enjoyed that Professor X basically becomes a Psyduck
Dementia is a helluva thing.
“It’s….its got water…..😢” *gets angry and shovels the shit out of his truck*
Its so sad we didnt get Indiana Jones fighting his younger cgi self
That movie was close to being great but the pacing was off, it felt too fetchquesty, and they wasted the whole time travel bit at the end. Still a million times better than Crystal Skull.
@@spaceghostcqc2137I really enjoyed the twist that it was just a map to that one particular moment. I didn't want them to just be travelling back into WWII for shenanigans. Maybe that's why people didn't connect with it as much. It feels very much like a thematic counterpoint to Logan more so than an Indiana Jones movie. But I'm absolutely fine with that. Loved it.
YET.
Logan will forever be one of the best superhero movies ever made.
Guys, I didn't mind the effin but the jeffin was a bit much.
My headcanon for the whole Logan has his memories, is that prof x was holding back in x2 and could restore his memories whenever
That's a good theory. I just figured that after X2, he just learned about his old identity which would have been government-created in the 70s and assumed it again because it would be easier for legal reasons than crafting a new one.
@@BonJoviBeatlesLedZep He does seem to still go by Logan so that's what I assumed to
FUN FACT: in an earlier draft of the script Calibans part in the movie was originally given to nightcrawler but was then changed after back and forth disagreements between the director and makeup department over the shade of blue for the nightcrawler makeup which then led to the working title of this film being blue harvest which is coincidentally the same title as the original Star Wars from 1977
the prize for thoughts and prizes should be the return of blue harvest joke
we did this last week mate, we're trapped in his twisted maze forever just like Mason foolishly thinking that Joker will not appear in the quizzes
This is my ‘watch with my daughter every Father’s Day movie’ it makes me cry like twice every time
3:47 Like this theory because I like the idea of Professor X just being like Young Justice S2 Miss Martian where she reads people's minds but turns them into a vegetable while doing it. Then she gets asked how to fix it after doing it to the wrong guy and goes like "idk"
I think the punchline for Thoughts and Prizes should be Blue Harvest. Really bring us back full-circle.
The comment about people in the 2030's being jealous of someone who lives in an upturned grain silo in the desert is probably going to age like a fine wine.
Can't believe James said Double Jackman instead of TWO JACKMAN
“I’m no hero” LMAOO
*proceeds to inject himself with a high dose of rage in order slaughter human cyborg assholes who are trying to kill his daughter and all her little mutant friends*
"Hugh Jackman" is a space alien's second, much better attempt at coming up with a name for their human alter ego.
A "Cerebro" look into someones soul.
Well done
Logan capping his god knows how many villan mid rant is still the highlight of this masterpiece
The real Prize Is the thought of winning a prize in the famous "Thoughts and prizes" section.
I mean, I feel like the natural end to the thoughts & prizes bit is that James finally awards the prizes, but just to himself. He has emphasized how ANYONE can win the prizes multiple times.
Being a big fan fan of the origin story of X-23 that you mentioned, Dafne Keen totally nails the character.
They never mention how much pain Laura is going to be in her entire life as her bones try to go while covered in admantium
If I recall correctly it’s not her whole skeleton it’s just her claws?
@@greg-shoes Correct.
She didn't get the full coating in the comics until she was an adult.
Never thought about Xavier as not having perfect control. From him being one of the lesders/faculty I think it makes sense that he has the most control/developed his powers the most.
But you could do a lot of stories with him not having strong control
Assume you’ll say it’s overrated. But it’s one of my favourite superhero movies ever. Most realistic
I will also say, from a personal stand point, this feels like a perfect passing of the torch of a character. Like in the movie canon, audiences now expect Dafne Keen to be the new Wolverine, and it doesn't feel forced due to an actor aging out or wtv. It has the same energy as Hailee Steinfeld as the next Hawkeye, and fits, rather than the previous actor/character being forced out. They have managed to conclude their run as a character and it's time to move on sort of thing.
Problem is, they waited too long!
wym?? the hawkeye show sucked immensely, its not even comparable to Logan in a passing of the torch sense
Had a terrible day at work, and now I’m feeling good seeing a new Caravan of Garbage vid as soon as I clock out
At least you’re able to work
It would be interesting if they watched this one for a movie commentary because I can never get through this film without crying.
Finally Mr. Sunday had the guts to call this movie garbage. He is the only one on the internet brave enough to do so. Speak your truth sir. Speak your truth.
What I love about Logan is it isn’t like a typical comic book movie
Some thoughts even though I love this movie and think it's a pretty perfect ending for Wolverine:
1. I always thought it would've been better to bring Liev Schreiber back as Sabertooth instead of doing a Logan clone. Hugh Jackman acting against himself just reminds of Jean Claude Van Damme, who couldn't stop doing that in his movies (Double Impact, Timecop, Maximum Risk, Replicant). Though I admit I ate up all the stupid cheese from most of JCVD's movies when he was in his prime.
2. I love the fact that Boyd Holbrook is channeling Val Kilmer's "Tombstone" Doc Holiday performance in this movie. It's just instantly compelling, and just plain works.
3. I would pay all the money to see someone re-score the final burial moments of this movie to a version of the cartoon X-Men theme that was sad in the style of the voices like the theme to James Horner's "Glory" or Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard's "Gladiator". That would be perfection.
My favourite scene in this movie is when Hugh Jackman looks threateningly at the audience and says "There are no new mutants, understand?"
Really sums up The New Mutants
I wonder why this is one of the least controversial "beloved character is old and regretful" movies. The only other contender I can immediately think of is Rocky Balboa/The Creed films. Even Mangold's Indiana Jones is thematically and stylistically very similar to Logan, but more controversial.
I think because it's loosely based on the (beloved?) "old man logan" comic book run.
Just my thoughts, but maybe it's because Wolverine comes from a franchise known for branching timelines and different versions, so it's not actually the definitive end of the character. We the audience accept that Wolverine as a character can still appear and not be beholden to this ending. With Rocky, he gets to still be a badass and go out on his own terms with strength rather than a fart, and when he gets a successor it's not done by degrading him and his importance as a character. It didn't have that modern Disney writing problem of "Hey audience, remember that thing you like? It's dumb and old, and never made a difference." Luke Skywalker, as a Disney property, can never avoid the ending and storyline they gave him. Star Wars has never been about alternate universes or timelines, so it's harder to have hope that we can avoid an ending where his legacy is failure.
It's probably because it's a superhero western.
Remember, this came out around the time superhero fatigue was just starting
People wanted something new, and this was new.
A sad superhero western, featuring the one X-Men who's the most tragic and depressing member.
Maybe it's because it's a good movie and the other ones you mentioned are bad.
@@DaveVaderify Personally I don't enjoy Millar's work and I think Logan and CA: Civil War are both massive improvements on their loose inspirations, but I don't know what the consensus is these days
I think what made Logan beloved by the fans as opposed to how the Last Jedi was received is probably because it's actually good
I'm officially campaigning for the glorious return of blue harvest
The prize is a compilation of every time the Rodney compilation played, which will essentially be a montage of 100+ Rodney’s
@@IantheDugan the prize will be the thoughts, and the thoughts will be the prizes.
@@TheJesselopez1981 Ah see that's where you're incorrect, bud. You mistakenly thought thoughts prizes, but surprise surprise the prize pries through thoughts, though prizes are thought prized in the eyes of the prize-holder..

"Thoughts and Prizes" suggest a game is involved, a game like Craps. And perhaps the most famous of rolls in Craps is the 'double one': Snake Eyes.
This whole bit is the long-form wind-up to the review. Finally, THE review.
We made it, folks. #ApexContent
Lol your on to something
Great video! Just wanted to point something as I understand it. I think the bullet wasn't for Logan to kill himself if things didn't go according to plan - that was the plan.
He wanted to buy the boat so he and Charles could hop on, go to the middle of nowhere and Charles could live his last moments and die of a seizure without hurting anybody but Logan and then he would kill himself. Logan isn't willing to kill him or have him killed but also sees no end to Xavier as a threat and wants him at least to go on "natural" terms. Pretty grim.
Ah nothing better then watching my favourite movies be torn apart by middle-aged Australian men

Does them being Australian have any relevance? If they were murican or English would you have noted their nationality?..
@@Yan-tz9pn I'm Australian and I say yes!
@@Yan-tz9pnstop being offended for others, sjw
I imagine both timelines across all the films, and Logan and Charles are the only ones who remember both. Gives it more gravitas for me
I can't believe how hard Patrick Stewart carries Professor X role that it created a false public perception. He's not the benevolent leader like how it was portrayed in the movies.
13:00 - Seeing that bit inspired me to try and pick up the X-Men theme by ear on my clarinet, and in fumbling some notes, I made the realization that Rouge's theme from the first X-Men movie is the same notes and key as the cartoon theme, with almost the same intro progression. RIP, Michael Kamen. You were an amazing composer.
"Hey, we're gonna have infinite multiverses. Each one is noticeably different, so we need a way to separate each of them out. How long should the code for each multiverse be?"

LOGAN ( 2017 ) A MASTERPIECE ☆☆☆☆☆
"Thoughts and Prizes" huh?!?
😂
Holbrook has quickly become one of my faves over the last few years. First saw him as Murphy in Narcos, such a good fuckin show. He was a great bad guy in Justified: City Primeval. Recently turned up in The Bikeriders as well which was cool
That beginning joke is basically how I am lmao. I haven’t watched a single X-men movie, but loved Hugh as Logan, with Logan being one of my favorite super hero movies
Such a fantastic send off for Wolverine.
A truly great film in its own right
Oh my god everything around the gravestone fucking killed me, amazing.
Why do I love these guys so much and for so long? Also wow, I love the editors too. You're all great and thanks for existing. Yeah you, whichever one is reading this. Or an AI, probably an AI.
Donald Pierce is such an incredible villain. The actor who plays him also played another incredible comic book villain in the Sandman. The Corinthian. But also I’m just a sucker for prosthetic hands. They look so cool.
Honestly, I think Caliban is one of the best characters in this movie. I loved the acting he did. Great great
The punchline of "Thoughts and Prizes" is that James has been reading it wrong this whole time and the section was actually meant to be "Ports and Thighses" where James provides a selection of fortified wines, paired with delicately seasoned chicken thighs for Mason to enjoy.
The prize should be a supercut of every time James fooled Maso with the movie Joker and/or High School Musical.
I think the prize for thoughts and prizes should be playing exactly half of the clip of the guy who yells rodney on a single videos trivia section
Thoughts and Prizes is my favorite long running bit on this show maybe ever. I laugh out loud every time
They could have given clone wolverine the comic accurate costume since he’s a product and everything, that would have been fun
Here’s a thought: Mason’s skeptical view of Thoughts and Prizes takes him out of the running for the prizes
Genuinely, the Wolverine trilogy are the only X-Men films I've seen but since I watched all of them either pirated on a laptop on some lonely night or on a crappy tv at someone's house party across more than a decade I can't really say much about that experience. They were all movies, and one of them was even good
Fun fact the blue tint to the OG xmen suits is a nod to the working name for the original Star Wars title “Blue Harvest”
Bless you Nick Mason for still believing that James has thought of a punchline when he starts a recurring bit
I heard there was an unfilmed intro to this movie that would have been way darker. Word is it would have had all the original X-Men actors returning and finally wearing the comic accurate suits, going on a mission and then all dying when Charles had his first seizure.
Honestly I’m really happy they didn’t do that intro because can you imagine how much of a slap in the face to the people who’d been begging Fox to use the comic costumes that would have been?
"Only two roommates, can you imagine?" is fucking HILARIOUS.
Rare example of a trilogy that's gotten BETTER with each subsequent movie
Kinda surprised there was no mention of the first trailer for this movie, the one that used Johnny Cash's Hurt. IMO one of the best trailers ever
When I was in 8th grade I was leaving the theater after falling asleep during a movie a couple months before Logan came out and my mom made me take a picture with the big cardboard thing for this movie because my name is Logan, it’s a very strange photo, I’m basically asleep standing up in it. Then I got a terrible concussion and couldn’t see Logan till almost the end of its theatrical run. These are my stories around the movie that I share a name with, great movie by the way
Only acceptable prize is Green Trivia and Guy who Shouts Rodney being back, even just for one time
Intense Logan comics make the lighter ones so satisfying. Wolverine and Squirrel Girl is still one of my favourite team-ups. (And in a somewhat less silly vein, there's Peter Parker and Logan on Logan's birthday…)
The punchline to thoughts and prizes will be the return of that one guy yelling “Rodney” over and over
Imagine this: James is eating a cheese toasty right before recording but stops half way through after only a couple of bites.
Right as the final Thoughts and Prizes segment ends he just totally drops the energy from like "THE CORRECT ANSWER-" to "-hey do you want to finish off this cheese toasty?" and point to his plate, with zero persona. Mason will look at the bite taken out of it and be reasonably confused, probably say no thanks, and then BAM
"Wow, you finally won something and you just decline thats noble of you." and then James can take another bite and do the outro.
Or he just gets the prize of a half eaten cheese toasty, worthy for his efforts I'd say.
The best punchline for thoughts and prizes is to give me (specifically me) an amazing prize. A prize that is in some way over the top. That would be funny for everyone, I think.
I love that Maso says "these are all optimizing those search engine results aren't they?" when it's all behind the paywall.* 😆
*Though oddly, the X-Men Never Go Back (along with Doom) is visible even when logged out. But none of the other X-Men stuff they mentioned is. And even that is still unlisted in RUclips, so you can't search for it here.
"I sneezed and I killed everyone."🤣 I sure hope my tears of laughter didn't cause an earthquake! Still the best X-Men movie in my opinion.
Someone give James a full hour long "thoughts and prizes" show but no time to prepare, and put Maso as a contestant or just heckling in the crowd
The prizes are
Runner up prize - A link to the Snake eyes episode that is just the video cut of the guy shouting Rodney.
1st place prize - is one of those cards where you can record your own message with the sound being the guy shouting Rodney.
Grand prize - a stuff animal Mr Sunday goat with the voice is Mason's "grab that gem" catch phrase....and then the guy shouting Rodney.!!!
