Thanks for hanging out in the Last Video Store this week! Was so happy to get these great mates on the show. Stick around! We’ve got an absolutely wild guest dropping by next week (it’s Keith Urban 🫠)
@@JvS1711 I doubt it, those things are horrible and since maso seems to enjoy the finer things and knows quite a bit about watches he would probably get something nice
Wētā FX did most of it with 48 one-off shots done by Industrial Light & Magic. It actually was the reason why the Avatar sequels got delayed - Wētā was too busy with this and it was their first priority. So Peter Jackson personally lobbied before James Cameron to wait - to which the latter finally conceded, as, loose quote: "I cannot say no to Marty Scorsese".
@@Kurskij due to the Avatar sequels getting delayed and those directly responsible for working on the Na’vi, hopping on this project in conjunction with Weta on the overall effects (using the most advanced in blue screen technology covering the soundstage with minimal use of the volume), this actually led to the working title of this project being called Blue Harvest!
on a real note, these two will never realize how much their 2 hours of new content a week has gotten me through some fr rough times. will always support
The first fifteen minutes of this video I experienced the uncanny valley from watching James and Maso in live action video. Eventually settled in tho. Greatest movie ever.
they have been podcasting for so long that i noticed Maso pauses and looks at James every couple sentences. allowing James to respond to maintain the back and forth podcast energy.
I’ve been listening to these dudes for so long, it’s so nice to see them. They’re handsome fellows and they look great. This is the first time I’m seeing them podcast 😂 thank you for this.
Wow I came because of James and Masso but this host is fantastic I work in the industry and can tell u collaboration never really works but this might be the rare case of a channel actually blowing up after a collab
Seeing the boys here makes me happy since we are going into a drought. Also, if the was going to be a third chair fit The Weekly Planet, you could do a lot worse than this guy. 👍🏾
I came here after listening to the Weekly Planet podcast episode on Alien Romulus and absolutely loved that episode and immediately came to your channel afterwards. I absolutely love the videos and your take/perspective and critiques on movies! Keep it up, I look forward to tuning in more in the future.
In my head, James is always on the verge of cracking up when he talks. His voice sounds like there’s always a huge, almost diabolical laugh laying in wait. But _seeing_ him actually talk…that’s just his voice! So strange.
Excellent podcast, Alexei! Informative, fun, and brimming with enthusiasm. A great way to get movie recommendations! I've been bingeing since you came on with the boys to talk about Alien: Romulus, so really looking forward to this one. My new release pick is "Portrait of a Lady on Fire". Such a beautiful film! My two weeklies are Richard Linklater's "Dazed and Confused" (so much like my teen years in small town northern Canada) and Walter Hill's "The Warriors" (love all those crazy gangs!) Keep up the amazing work!
These are such beautiful picks and quite literally 3 of my very favourite films. I’m going to give you a great set of recommendations on an upcoming episode ❤
From the scalp down James seems so much younger than I've always pictured him in my minds eye. Also seeing the guys acutally moving instead of as animatics has done my head in.
Great discussion and very glad to see Scott Atkins getting a shoutout! He's an absolute legend of B action movies and seeing him in a blockbuster role was so much fun!
I’m glad you mentioned the warriors influence on JW3. I absolutely loved how they directly used the radio DJ (down to the same camera angle) from Warriors in JW4
Damn these two guys I’ve never seen are great. If only they did a video podcast. (I love the pod and I completely respect and understand why they don’t set up a camera during their sessions but it’s nice to see them live)
Maso just solidified his place as one of my favorite Internet personalities for choosing Ronin - what a fantastic movie, thrilled to see it get some love!
During the 90-00, John Frankenheimer made some pretty well received TV movies. Against the Wall (based on the Attica prison riot) andersonville ( about union civil war soldiers locked in a POV prison camp) George Wallace (about the infamous segregation governor) and path to war ( a movie about the cold war).
Alexi- Love your unique way of talking about films. My new release would be Spaceman, and my other picks would be Tick, Tick Boom and Hacksaw Ridge. (Honorable mention: Hot Fuzz)
This is my first time watching this show, and wow! It was really good, the pacing was nice and I loved the conversation. Didn't even feel like an hour! Great show!
John Wick Chapter 4 was a martial arts fan’s dream. Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Scott Adkins, Marko Zaror all in the perfection of Chad Stahelski’s action world! Please sir, can I have some more?!
Pretty sure James and Maso are just AI here and I'm not even sure the host isn't just Dave O'Neil in glasses doing a favour for a six-pack and a family sized block of Snack. Totally fake, best episode ever.
I just remember being able to chart where the Ghoulies were in life through seeing the video covers. Ghoulies. Ghoulies Go To College. Ghoulies Get A Real Estate Agency License.
I watched Ronin in a cinema in Mildura. It's a great movie. And watched True Lies with my wife the other week; also holds up so well. As mentioned, Arnie's stunt double is very visible, particularly on the horse, but the stunts and action are just great. The one scene that I've always loved is where the camera man is nervous because the battery is dying, perfect bit of acting.
The only thing in my mind that could have made the John Wick franchise better (even though I could imagine it being a technical and logistical nightmare) would have been squibs instead of CGI blood. I know it wouldn't have been possible to sue them with the head shots, but maybe they could have gone a bit heavier with body shots to compensate. Could you imagine John Wick with the practical, visceral gore of Robocop?!

It’s always fun to hear what people’s favorite movies are, even if I haven’t seen them myself. My favorites at the moment are: Uncut Gems (2019), Once Upon a Time In Hollywood (2019), O Lucky Man (1973), and Why Don’t You Play in Hell (2013). omg the voices are coming out of their faces and not that one photoshoot they did like six years ago
The editors do go to that one well extremely often.
I don't like it, this is weird

I know their faces and voices, but seeing them together doesn't look right.

The lip-sync editing is amazing. You almost can't tell that its one bloke doing both voices

If you look closely, it's pretty obvious one is just clip art.

Maso’s so classy even when he’s not wearing a suit… he kinda is

The way Maso dresses makes me feel safe.
Very cozy attire
I am little lost here. Sweater and sweatshirt seem consistent, but then you get James also known as Mr. Sunday Movies wearing a t-shirt. 🤷♂️
God damn Maso looks good, the style, the hair, the beard, I haven’t seen him on camera in a while wow
