"We do it right 'cos we do it twice!" sounds like one of my mottoes!
Morning everyone watching from Lincolnshire UK 🇬🇧
Good morning from Port Saint Lucie Fl
Your wife is really gonna appreciate that winch. Super nice job of customizing the machine, of course having every toool known to man helps, especially the plasma cutter! Oh, and your "stash" helps too.😊
Hello from Siesta Key Florida
Good Day, Mustonians!
Thank you for taking us along on this journey. Always a pleasure to watch you work. Best wishes from the UK.
Is this like a poor design by Yamaha? It seems designed to not be worked on at all. And, to be able to work on it you have to devote so much time, if you were a repair shop, it would be cost prohibitive. Just tell the customer, 'buy a new one'.
Mass production….make them cheap…sell them expensive…..
Really enjoyed seeing this quad come back to life! The front winch and push bar fabrication turned out great and much stronger than before! It amazes me how people give up on a vehicle and write it off when it just needs a little love. Wish I didn’t live on the opposite side of the country, you would have loads of video content with bringing my 1950 CJ3a that was left in a yard for 40 years back to life.
That front bumper/brush guard turned out really well! It looks factory! Wayyy beefier than the original too!
Even the best of us make mistakes, it keeps us humble !! Best thing is to have a little laugh at yourself, and move on ! What a great fix up on that front rack , helps you have parts from all over. Thanks again for making my Sunday start right !
That front rack turned out Awesome! Like the parts were meant to go together, even though they had totally different purposes. A tweak here, a weld there, Viola!
That's a sweet little machine. And of course, it's even sweeter once Mustie worked his magic on it. She should love it. Thanks for sharing.
You can clearly see at 5:18 that the carb is spraying the fuel backwards so this is an indicator for way too much fuel is coming.
Yep. When I saw that if figured Daren missed it or he would have known what was up.
Exactly what I saw. Wasn't sure why but that wasn't right. Fun.
No, that is normal for a motorcycle or quad engine. The pressure wave bouncing back and forth up the intake channel are often supersonic. It is normal to see a small cloud of vapor form there.
@jw-hy5nq Not saying you're wrong that just seemed excessive too me is all. I could be wrong though. Have a good one.
@@jw-hy5nq Yes, a *small* cloud. But what i´ve seen was like you´re pushing on a spray can. In my opinion way too much. The missing main jet explain why it was so much.
Another great one Mustie! Showing your mistakes, (that we all have done), makes me want to watch you more. My in laws just got back to Florida from NH. Went there for leaf change, thanks for taking me there to see!
My first clue what was wrong.. was when you first started it up and was going to hold slide down. Just before you held it down you revved it up a few times and raw gas was blowing back out of the carb.. (It's easy seen on the video) I yelled there's your problem lady! LOL
LOL. I use thT all the time. "There's your problem lady!"
The relief of knowing everyone does that kind of thing.... Phew! Excellent as always, thank you
The story about Mustie’s wife getting wedged in between two trees…..I seem to remember a video of Mustie and his wife out in a boat on the lake, where they ran out of gas. Mustie didn’t bring extra gas. Mustie didn’t bring an oar. LOL!!! Anyone else remember that???
Muste shows how beneficial it is to retain a sense of humor in getting past a mistake and in life in general.
The amount of times this guy says “Go” is impressive. Go go go go go go go let’s go. I’ll go, what if we go. Go go go go go go go go go go go go go go
My Polaris is having a similar issue, so I'm going to follow these 2 videos & will eventually report back when/if I identify & correct the problem. Have learned quite a lot from you, sir!
If your Polaris is a late 90s, Early 2000s model, It likely has a worn camshaft. I've had to replace the cam on 2 of them, But they run like new afterwards
I vote for a vacuum leak someplace, several bikes I have bought had similar issues and each one was a vacuum leak or plugged idle jet ( but he cleaned this well unless there was crap in the tank). The rubber boots on carb on these old machines are often cracked. Guess I will watch and see
Also check the spark arrestor. They often foul up and restrict the exhaust
Happy frosty morning from North Carolina farm country - harvest season is over, the equipment is in the barn for the winter, and time to relax with coffee and Mustie. Sausage on the grill, eggs in the iron pan, life is good.
Forsty northern MN here and same. Corn is just wrapping up..
Now I'm hungry thanks hope you had a good yeild
Happy Sunday morning from coastal North Carolina @kenstrayhorn5923
Ive been watching for about 7 years, this new job i have i work 6 days a week and sunday mornings are the best thanks to you darren! Love every video!
I'm glad to hear you use the German torque settings, Goodn tight 😊
Yes that is one way. Another is to tighten until your butt puckers.
The screen that was in front of the radiator needs to be put back to protect the radiator. Sticks, branches can damage the radiator without it.
Always great to see Mustie1 episode posted in my feed on a Sunday.
He did an awesome job on the front guard rack and winch mount
Looks better than factory I'd say.
His self depreciating humor when he screws up like on the carb is a big part of why I can't wait for the next episode each week.
His wife should be one happy lady when she takes her first turn riding it out in the sticks.
You got that ATV running great Mustie1 👍👍👍
I been lookin for a video made by a legend and here we are. God is good.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻✌️
You called it right away that a jet might of fell out. You no dummy ! Good thing ya found those shorted wires . Nice video ! I gotta get my leaf blower fixed tomorrow. Carbs plugged
Love that mustie is doing this for his wife, great guy
Love my '05 Kodi 450. Unstoppable and always reliable.
Great job Darren, now lets see Mrs Mustie giving it the Beans through the Woods.😂
Howdy all! Mustie rescues another. Definitely rescue the Yamazuki. Fall colors look great.
Hey those Milwaukee tools have a 5 year from date of purchase warranty. You go online to their page, open a ticket, put in the serial number, and if you're in the window (you don't even need your receipt) they'll email you a shipping label, send it out and in about 2 weeks they'll send it back fixed and pretty looking. How do I know this? Yup, I actually did it and they fixed my impact gun FREE of charge. It was amazing!!
The man who never made a mistake never made anything.
Another brilliant video Mustie. Your laughter and sense of humour when you cracked opened the carb to see a jet looking at you
The quad hugging the tree made me laugh.
Mustie, It takes one heck of a man to laugh at his mistakes but, then again you are da man. I'm just waiting to see Mrs. Mustie ride it. Thanks for a wonderful video and a great start to a beautiful Sunday morning. God bless.
Mustie1, Glad you found the troublesome fuel valve. Gremlins! Anyway, very nice work on the grill and winch! Your wife should name it “Smiley”! BTW, I know the wife is camera shy but you should show us a cameo of her riding her new wheeler. Maybe a driving away shot!
I spotted the excessive sprayback of fuel near the beginning (5m17) and was screaming "strip the carb again!" Glad you found it, though. Good video (both) :-)
Use a spray bottle with soapy water [or water with a little vinegar{diluted Simple Green}] to moisten the radiator dirt before blowing it with the airgun. This will clean the fins and also prevent the dust from flying all over the place.
If you did that with the dirt around where I live, you would make a radiator shaped brick.
@@vhfgamerOkay Pigpen.
Mustie had a small amount of dirt and debris that formed a dust cloud. If you think that I'm wrong, that's your opinion.
Having done it over 20 times, I can guarantee that it works.
@@vhfgamer That is why you don't leave it to dry. Use the air gun within minutes, while it is still soft.
@@jlucasound You haven't ever seen the mud we have around here. It's sticky like glue. If you walk through it, you'll have a several inch thick cake all around your feet. That's assuming you don't just sink straight down to china.
Now why didn't this suggestion get posted somewhere I'd have seen it before the weekend? 😂
I was blowing dust and old mud off an even older Yamaha quad just a few days ago, making a big mess in the garage.
Not too many people would admit this in a video, I wouldnt. In Mustie we trust.
Your wife and the ATV in the woods, was sooo funny----! Good repair, esp the welding.
I never saw that happen before. Your reaction was priceless
That wasn't dumb Darren. It was simply an assembly oversight. Dint beat yourself up. The very best in the racing and professional world overlook stuff like that all the time. Were humand and thanks for showing. Cheers buddy
Always a 👍, never disappoints.
Mustie1 (Darren) continues to be the #1 RUclips channel hands down… And you say?
I love that Mustie uses a Taryl cup to take his urine samples! I think he even has other Taryl merch like tee shirts. Two greats!
Use the winch to move the trees blocking the path! Save your back! Its also kinda fun...lol
Mustie needs to be at a million subs watched him for years even started watching his old vids again
I love it when someone can make fun of themselves. You got it sussed eventually, so all's good.
Still my favorite channel
When you were testing the winch I thought for a moment you were going to recreate the scene from "The Gods Must Be Crazy" where they manage to winch a Land Rover way up a tree.
Watching to the end to see your Gods Must Be Crazy moment was awesome
Always an inspiration. Taught me how to work on engines and mechanical systems.
Wow.... We even finished with a lynching!
Nice machine. Look after it! I'd love to have one myself, but I'm not that fortunate in the money department.
This bike has a lot of similar parts to my 1988 Yamaha Terrapro. It has a PTO, three point mount, mower deck and 12' sprayer. Amazing engineering you did. RUclips would be worthless without Mustie, WatchWesWork and Eric O. Love the content!
Yeah, 3 of my favorites too.
Don't know eric o thanks for the heads up. They make us normal people ignorant don't they.
Eric O runs the SouthMainAuto channel. If he can't fix it, it isn't broken. Remember, if HE can do it, YOU can do it. lol@@borisbash
@@TheBrookian you haven't sent me work on things, I should have been a butcher.
@@borisbash , I may have seen your work then. I've repaired some pretty questionable stuff.. lol
Thanks for the shop time Mustie1! Nice save and re-work on the bumper and winch.
Great video! I always learn something new from your videos! Attention to the smallest detail can make the difference but you learn from the mistakes. My only concern is that you left out the metal brush grate that protects the radiator. I learned that lesson the expensive way. Although I thought I was cautious riding in the woods, a stick from some downed branches flipped up and went straight thru the front grille into my radiator.
✌🤠🇺🇸
"We do it right because we do it twice!"
Must be nice having your own woods playground!
A friend gave me a Suzuki 650 Savage thumper because she had taken it to three different shops to fix an issue where it would take off fine in first, second, then fall on it's face in third. Turned out there was a little fork that held in the seat for the needle and seat that was a hare bent allowing the seat to drop enough to starve it of fuel temporarily, then the bowl would fill again. I know yours isn't that, but funny little issue that was hard to find. Love your stuff.
If you weld ends on the brushguard that go rearward [or forwards] 4 inches that will help you edge through tighter areas than just open ends without catching onto what you hit. Like the inverse of a bull's horns [more like what a ram's horns are].
Mountain bikers put them on their handlebars and it prevents serious crashes.
Man that Kodiak looks awesome for 20 yrs old!
Hello, I am a Korean RUclipsr. I enjoyed the video.
Mustie, I am a jr. engineer! But you are the master. You could teach a class at MIT! I am serious!
Good job Musty1 That front bumper looks way better. Those old Kodiak's Are very loyal machines.
That front bumper looks totally factory - great job!
Great job Darren! Hope your wife enjoys it. 😊
The Cowerdly Lyon from Oz " Come Mustie! Take it Appart Take it Apparrrt!!!"!!!; )😂😅
Safe trails, Mrs Mustie!
Looks like that quad was driven into a lake at some point in its past. Good fixes as usual!
That's some mighty fine fabrication on the front assembly and the added bonus story and chuckle of your wife sticking the 4 wheeler between 2 trees. But super content as always and a trail ride to boot. And looking forward to your next project and adventure. Thanks again for taking time to share your knowledge and skills with us.😎🇺🇸😇🍁🦃🍂
in the 90s I had a friend who put a 12000 lb warn winch on the front of his Toyota we hooked it up to the tree to lift the front up to change the tires when we came back from the tire store the truck was all the way up in the tree.
Mustie, you sir, are amazing. Good job!
the carb issue blessing in disguise. the plastics had to come off anyway, fan needed attention. fleabay universal fit part actually fit, had the right connector and worked. that original weenie puny front crash guard looked like it was an after thought from the factory. your custom repurposed one much better portions, actual functionality
Mustie I new you could do it things you can't fix they haunt you at night well what if I and then if I and if that works I can do this and that and it well work yes part 2 video and we well fix it thank you Mustie well done my faith is intact you are the best can't wait for next video.
was waiting for Mustie to say "lets see if it has spark" to that old 4 wheeler
Nice to see you back Mr mustie1 from South yorkshire
Now, that's a sturdy bumper!
A constant inspiration Mustie, thank you for your videos!
The Florida pool pump motor repair guy 32750 approved ! that was good info Mustie1
You did good on that machine Sir. Enjoy it.
Looks like a great quad bike for the wife. 👍
dang, I was so into the video when Mustie was blowing out the radiator I started sneezing and coughing 😂 no kidding.
I'd love to see a collab between you and Derek from ViceGripGarage. Find an old VW somewhere sitting in a swamp, get it to driving condition and drive it back to Dereks shop and then do a full custom resto on it.
I was guessing main jet but didn’t expect it to be rattling around. Great video, have the same wheeler and my fan is toast as well
Morning from Georgia!
I think that the burned wreck in the forest is one of the famous Japanese crossbreeds Suzumaha or Yamzuki... Love your fantastic videos, just keep them rolling 🙂
That’s a great looking riding trail!
If you've lost the variable speed on your drill and all you have is off and High it is very possible that you burn out the mosfet transistor that controls the speed. My drill did the same thing I replaced the mosfet transistor in it and it works fine.
Mission accomplished bro, nice one. Safe travels. Ken.
Funny, watching this video. I thought this area looks familiar. I started looking for the burnt-out Suzy..😂
Being able to shift out of 4x4 is most important when climbing a hill if you don't make it up you need to be able to gun it and turn around and come back down the hill going forward, coming down backwards is not good. I had to educate the ATV trainer that in 4x4 you can't do that it will just turn and shoot across the hill sideways. He said all ATV's will spin around so I told him to show me on my quad the new Honda 300 with full time 4x4 so he did and he couldn't do it. He tried 3 times and shot across sideways every time. I got rid of the Honda as soon as Yamaha came out with the Grizzly, I bought the first one my Yamaha shop got in and never looked back.
You know its getting custom when he says "Let's go check the stash."
I must admit that new bumper looks so much better than the original 😊😊😊
Awesome 👏 I am always learning watching you
awesome as always.thanks for sharing and taking us along.
Pulling that ATV up the tree with the wench reminded me of The Gods Must Be Crazy.
Excellent, that's a capable little quad,
Thank you Darren for the video another good one, keep up your great work ..
That looks way!!! Better !! Darren good job dude
Runs great, excellent job!!
Cool Sunday morning and coffee with mustie. That new front gaurd looks great
