Do NOT Try to Be More Confident (Do This Instead)

  • People always tell shorter men to be more confident, but this is horrible advice. You can't just decide to "be more confident". Instead, you have to give yourself reasons to feel confident. Here are five things you can do that will lead to increased confidence:
    #1: Dress well
    #2: Groom yourself
    #3: Learn how to fight
    #4: Public speaking
    #5: Read more
    Further reading: goo.gl/8jzlT4
    Learn how to fight: goo.gl/2QCn2Y
    Free e-book: goo.gl/sV06na
    Premium guide: goo.gl/G1tGM6
    REMEMBER: Ignore everything you can't control (height, IQ, skin color, etc.). Instead, focus all of your time and energy on changing and improving the things you CAN control (fitness, dressing well, grooming, skills and social skills).

    Great video man. But
    I personally think the thing most guys need to know about this is that women who do not like you because of your height are not worth your time! Plus the things you said here 😁

    This is some great advice, Brock! It's so true that if you don't give yourself concrete reasons and ways to build your confidence, "trying to be more confident" is a hollow pursuit.

    I'm a trans man, and I always felt frustrated, that my parents didn't enroll me to taekwondo as I wanted to. That thought alone took my confidence from me. And later I thought wouldn't it be too late for me to take classes. But if even cis guys are frustrated with that and then make up for it later, I feel some sense of relief.

    I think rather than just "read", I would say learn new skills e.g. learn a new language (very useful skills and looks good on cv), take cooking or photography class, take first aid lesson, try out new things (people like someone who knew the best place to eat), travel (one of my goal is to go visit machu picchu), do some volunteering e.g. as a first responder... Not saying that I did all of these things myself (I did some :] ) however I'm sure it will help confidence in the long run.

    I know this is an older post .. But anyone just watching this I could not agree more with this video. I got really big and muscular, ( 5'7" , 225 at my heaviest) known as a very strong guy, and even though I always did good in a fight ( I'm talking when I was younger, not smarter lol) I never had true confidence until I started training in MMA. I was training this way before it was popular to. ( If anyone understands what rolling glass Coke bottles over your shins was for, then you know how long ago.). Point is all of a sudden it no longer mattered how big or strong I was when you can fight. I never picked a fight or was an ego manaiac, it's just that this confidence will allow one to be the real you. Not the "I'm ok for a short guy, but if I was taller I'd be even......" attitude & mentality. Not sure if that statement makes sense to most. But Throw in the public speaking you'll kick ass in life and shortness doesn't even factor in your normal thought pattern anymore. Oh one drawback about being a good fighter ... if you're short and learn how to fight, you must accept when trying to verbally defend someone or stand up for yourself... Most taller guy's ego won't back down from a shorter guy. You'll unfortunately have to be ready to fight most times.

    I always wondered why I never felt insecure about my height, and I think it's because I already do all of these things. Fellas, it's great advice, take it. I always know I have value beside tall people, and I know if they were to hypothetically attack me, or if something was to go down, I'd be able to respond better. The other stuff is more obvious and great advice too

    I try to avoid to standing next to tall people haha seriously. Perception is a pretty intense motivator. I never think about my height until I'm around some tall people so I may position myself in the group in a way that doesn't single me out as the short one. Otherwise, being aware of posture, dressing well, learning every day and not giving in to other people's expectations or outdated perceptions when it comes to being short. Define yourself.

  • @zibtihaj3213
    @zibtihaj3213 7 лет назад +1

    even standing up height does not matter (I know what I am talking about) , what matters is the extra strength that comes with the extra weight that comes with the extra height.

    • @rincefire
      @rincefire 7 лет назад

      What also matters is the extra reach a tall guy usually has in his hands and the extra distance a shorter guy needs to cover by punching above the level of his shoulders. A boxing class could teach you to negate that advantage, but let's not pretend that it's not there.

    • @zibtihaj3213
      @zibtihaj3213 7 лет назад

      Reach is not really an advantage (that is a comman myth ). Infact if a guy is much taller than his opponent he is actually at a disadvantage, a short guy has a whole body to hit (hence people like Mike tyson becomes experts at body shots) , infact the whole concept of boxing is to chop the tree ,....take the body and the head will present itself. of course there is no clear cut answer but I am convinced (from tons of experience and research) that a short guy especially in a confined space (ring or an octagon) for a limited number of rounds actually has more of an advantage. Covering distance is not as hard as you might think...hence clinches and take downs ....staying away from a shorter guy is much harder and takes a lot of talent and skill and stamina. we most likely will disagree on this and that no problem but I really can go on and on on the subject. Also in Judo a shorter guy is at an advantage (shorter not weaker).

    • @rincefire
      @rincefire 7 лет назад

      you're talking about trained fighters. we're talking about regular people with no special training. my experience tells me that, all things being equal, height and range are advantages. I do mma and bjj, and have been doing karate all the way throught high school. Haven't changed my mind about that and not sure i will.

    • @zibtihaj3213
      @zibtihaj3213 7 лет назад

      as i said , we most likely will not agree. I am convinced about my opinion and it did take me time to realize. Also this "all else being equal" makes logical bookish sense but even that is not that true in my opinion. All else being equal only if a person with particular styles collid. As an extreme example - Say an Ali verses another Ali but with shorter reach ( the longer one will win)....but if say a Frazier fights another Frazier the longer reach will actually be a disadvantage. by the way on paper Frazier should have been the easiest for Ali to fight and yet he was THE hardest by far. Something to think about. Anyway enough of this cause I can go on and I am sure you can also.. just that I honestly think it is a limiting belief this reach and stand up fighting link.

    Being tall is overrated in my opinion. I'm 6'2" but it's never helped me get a girl, being confident and knowing how to talk comfortably with girls is the key thing. If you ask women most will say they prefer tall men, but in reality they don't really care about height as long as you have a winning personality. I speak from years of experience of being single and tall.

    • @swarup.mondal
      @swarup.mondal 5 лет назад +1

      Yeah, but a tall guy can also have those things. They aren't something made exclusively available for short guys for the lack of their height.
      And in such a case, women will always go for the taller guy.

      It hasn't happened to me yet, but it doesn't seem to happen eventually if you train for many years (and often). If you really want to prevent it, your best bet is to wear ear protection (like many wrestlers wear). I know guys at the gym who always wear it. I would probably start if I felt any ear pain or noticed any swelling.

    Oh man, this video is spoilt by tip #3, which is just nonsense :( I'd replace it with: learn to play a musical instrument! Spend a few hours a week learning to play the guitar, or spend a few hours a week fighting blokes - then see which gets you more chicks! (and more importantly, better quality chicks!). Seriously, scrapping is SO last century, and inherently unstylish. Infinitely more impressive is having the skill to win WITHOUT resorting to fighting! Just ask this ultra-groovy short guy: "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you. Then you win" - Ghandi ;)

    • @BrockMcGoff
      @BrockMcGoff  6 лет назад +1

      As a lifelong musician, I can say that learning a martial art is one of the most fulfilling things I've ever done. Any skill is good - music, martial arts, whatever. Also, anyone who trains martial arts knows that it's not about actually fighting people. It's about fitness, discipline and challenging yourself - and knowing that you could defend yourself if it came to it (which it probably won't but definitely could).
