- Guitar, Synthesizer and Drum Machine demo of SolidGoldFX's latest golden delay wonder, the EM-III Multi-Head Octave Echo.
Available for purchase at: thepedalzone.c...
The EM-3 builds on the legacy of SolidGoldFX’s former delay flagship, the Electroman, but takes it all much much further. In this compact golden pedal you’ll find everything from pristine digital delays, warm analog echoes, crisp fluttering tape repeats and iconic multi-head drum delays as well as bold atmospheric octave-down soundscapes. All presented through a seriously brilliant and intuitive control set that also features tap tempo, momentary oscillation and glitch effects.

Good to be back with another demo! I really really REALLY like this one. The EM-III is such a ridiculously versatile delay pedal, and it's going straight on my main board. Hope you all dig it as much as I do. If you do, then please consider leaving a comment, like or sharing the demo with your partners in tone. All the love - Stefan
Is that last jam 14:52 to the end just the EM-III? No other effects?
Yeah, all EM-III. I of course used a looper to layer the piece, but all of the effects are all EM-III and an E-Bow for that final sustaining lead line
I have watched this demo probably 50 times at this point. It sold me the first time I heard it. I have been using this pedal on my board for a few weeks now. It has forced me to re think how music should be played. I find myself playing single strings and waiting for them to fade into nothing. My syncopation and timing is improving. I really like what this pedal is teaching me. Thanks for excellent content and honest reviews.
I love your dreamy playing style so much. I know this is a pedal based channel, but I would love to see some videos about your approach to playing guitar. The tunings you use and how you come up with your music.
I absolutely second that request!

+5!
Dude, as a fellow demo guy you had some RAD transitions between segments in this demo. Probably my favorite transitions on any of your demos so far. Also, dig the first Micro Freak segment too! Kudos to you. 👍
Thanks, man! A lot of work goes into the overall flow of the demos, so I'm happy you notice all the small details. Means a lot 🙏
One of the things I really enjoy about your content is how wonderfully positive you are. I always feel a little happier after watching 😀
So many tasty music ideas and tones in one demo! Loved the 3 delay heads setting! Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you so much! Yeah, the 3 Head setting is glorious. The more delay taps the better 😊
Your insight connects remarkably with my own journey in finding a pathway through echoes, great demo.
Thank you Stephan. Your playing style (and commitment, and passion, and . . .) really demonstrate what these devices can do.
That’s extremely kind of you to say. Thank you! 🙏
Absolutely gorgeous rundown Stefan- you always kill it with your Blade Runner synth progressions too- they’re SO GOOD
Awwwww, buddy!! Thank you so much ❤️ Always means a ton coming from you.
A wonderful and versatile pedal, and a beautifully musical demo as always Stefan.
Thank you so very much, my dear friend. It is indeed mind-boggling how versatile this pedal is 😊
What a superbly thought out pedal. Your demo sure did it justice. Great work on synth and that ebow section was beautiful. You always craft an incredibly stunning musical ending to your videos. Top drawer stuff Stefan!
I have enjoyed your playing and effort here!!! Best demo guy on the tube!!
Incredibly kind of you! Thank you!
I don't need another delay, I don't need another delay, I don't need another delay... Great demo buddy
You always need just one more delay. It has been the most consistent and stable rule throughout my entire life 😂 Happy you liked the demo, my friend
Another amazing demo! I come here partially for the pedal, partially for the playing, partially for the composition.
Thank you! I'm happy to have you partially here ❤😊
Oh my God, Stefan, you're the best!
You’re too kind. Thank you 🥰
Just when I thought I had enough delay pedals.
Excellent demo. Maybe your best.
You can always squeeze in just one more delay pedal 😊 And thank you for the kind words about the demo. Means a lot to me!
love those little pitch tricks, really nice way to set itself apart.
Yeah, there’s so many sonic nuances hidden within this thing. They did a really great job here. Happy you like it, my pedal prince 🤴❤️
@@thepedalzone i love you
The pitch plunges at 16:30. Fantastic. Ghostly wails from the void And an Ebow solo? Speaking my language here. Great demo as always!
Heeeeey! Thanks, man! There's just so many cool textures in this pedal. I was especially surprised by how musical some of the more extreme modulated sounds were. That descending ghostly wail in the final jam, just added such a cool atmosphere to the composition. My mind exploded with happiness once I discovered that sound 😊
I really look forward to your vids, thanks a bunch.
Makes me so happy! Thanks for watching ❤
Aww man!! The playing, the pedal, just utterly gorgeous!! (Another pedal added to the wish list!! 😁)
Thank you! Really happy you liked it. There's a lot to love in this pedal 😊
Really cool features, you were born to play delay pedals.
That's super kind of you! And yes, this pedal packs so many cool features. I'm floored by its versatility!
You and Andy from Reverb are in a league of your own
Oh my! Thank you so much. Deeply honored to even be mentioned in the same sentence as that legend ❤
I love it, and great video as always!
Cheers! Really happy you like it!
Beautiful tones 😍
Really happy to hear you like it 😊
Really inspiring sounds! Well done.
Cheers! Happy you enjoyed the tones and tunes
Solid Gold outdoing themselves once again. What's funny is that I often put a Pitchfork in the effects loop of the Electroman ii, and combine it with tape delay. It's like they read my mind for where to take it next! Wish there was an effects loop or expression with this but hey- still looks worth it. And thanks for another amazing demo Stefan. I'm curious to hear more of your thoughts and impressions on the EM-iii while I consider this for the future! And do you think they could further the Electroman pedal itself into a Mark iii with some of these features? 🤞
This pedal is amazing!
Yeah, it's incredible. So much tonal variety packed into that tiny pedal
Brilliant demo as always ♥️🚀
Thank you very much!
I hope this video makes it onto the next space probe to leave the solar system. We can always use this pedal and Stefan's playing (and video making skills) to try to prove to aliens that humans are alright, actually.
This is awesome. Great demo!
Thanks, man! It’s indeed a really awesome delay pedal. Just so intuitive and fun to use 🙌
@@thepedalzone I have a Timeline, but could totally see this being useful on my board as well! Can never have too much delay.
I LOVE what you did with that thing! I try to have this sound (locut and high pass) with my old custom Flashback Toneprint (Yeah, I still use it!). This could be my new «go to». Thanks Stefan!!
Happy you liked it, man! Means a lot. Those low- and high-cut features really help a delay find its place in a mix
You're such a dreamy player, dude. Damn.
Awwww, buddy! Thank you. Rad to see you got your YT channel going now. I'll make sure to subscribe 😊
@@thepedalzone You rule, Stefan! Thank you!
Wow, this sounds great. Good thing I have room on my board. :)
That is a very good thing indeed. Happy you like it!
If you run out of space, you can always go the Jaws, ‘We’re gonna need a bigger board”, route 😁
If it were stereo I would replace my Keeley ECCOS instantly. It sounds amazing.
Beautiful video Stefan.
This just might be the one contender that finally unseats my favorite delay.
Rad! So what's your favorite at the moment then?
@@thepedalzone, thanks for asking Stefan! I used a '90s EHX Deluxe Memory Man for about 18 years but finally discovered that its very low input impedance (100K) was seriously inhibiting my ideal top end (top boost chime). I went through many delays trying to unseat it (Boonar, El Cap, ECCOS, Echorec, Adineko, D1, Demedash T-120, TC Alter Ego 2, VFE Blueprint, etc. etc.) and despite its issues, the Walrus ARP-87 became my champion.
I prefer it to both of my '90s DMMs and it was no contest next to the El Cap. It is the most musical and unobtrusive delay I have experienced for my needs. I aim for delays that can go from slapback to Hank Marvin's Meazzi wash blurring the line between reverb and delay, all at just the turn of the repeats knob. Delay character is one of many factors though. How the pedal affects your dry and bypassed signals is critical. Some of these delays add pink noise, harsh top end, or affect EQ in undesirable ways. It's a rabbit hole for sure. The ARP-87, despite being a Spin FV-1 delay, also brings the pink noise, doesn't get anywhere near self oscillation, and doesn't get anywhere near 100% wet. So, though I am generally very happy with it, I still keep my ear to the ground for other contenders.
The EQD Space Spiral is a very close second to the ARP-87 and is easily my favorite PT2399 delay, btw. I believe you are also a fan. Thank you so much for your dedication and hard work! I very much appreciate your channel.
Fantastic job! ✊
Thank you kindly! 🙏
sounds amazing
Happy you like it! It's a super rad delay pedal
As someone who owns the electro man mk I, and the mk II, I don't see how I could possibly not buy this one as well. Both the mk I and II sound so beautiful, especially the mk II with its mesmerizing modulation. Frig, I guess I'll have to order one lol
Gotta catch 'em all 😊 This one will serve as a nice contrast to your other Electroman delays. The EM-III can deliver much brighter and crisper delays, which will be a nice complement to the more murky sounds of the classic Electroman
So good!
Yes! Happy you like it!
I’m going to pick one of these up and try it in front of my Polymoon 😁
Sounds like a perfect plan! 😊
Could this be the one to replace my Belle epoch deluxe?! Beautiful tones and gorgeous playing as always, man!
If not replace it, then it will most definitely complement it really really well. You can never have too many delays ☺ Really happy you liked the tones and tunes. Means a lot!
Solidgold has been putting some great stuff out. NU-33 is never leaving my board and this might have to go next to it
They have been absolutely killing it with their most recent releases. If there’s an award for most improved pedal brand, then it would go to them. They’ve definitely found their place in the market. And yes, NU-33 is amazing. Can’t see that leaving my board any time soon either. Definitely give the EM-III a go if you get the chance. I’m sure you would dig it
Word homie, I have a few of their pedals. The Electroman mk II has been a permanent facet of my board. I really like the oblivion too. I also have the lysis that I pull out every so often. I will absolutely have to get this. Really would like to try the nu-33 too, but I have a shallow water and feel like that kind of covers that sound, enough to warrant not getting the nu-33.
@@thepedalzone hey do you think the nu-33 is different enough from the shallow water that I should buy it to have as a chorus/vibrato pedal?
Awesome demo as always! Thanks as always for the beautiful playing and great demoing. Do you mind sharing which looper you use? I have a super old RC-20 and dl-4, been thinking about updating...
Thank you very much! I'm currently using a CBA Blooper. That might be overkill for most people though. It all depends on what you need. Outside of these demos, I use Blooper more as a wild sampling textural tool, but it works really well as a standard looper as well. I love the feature where you can cycle through old layers. Think you can go back 8 layers or so, where other loopers only let you undo/redo 1 layer. But if you just want a simple no-nonsense looper, then you can't go wrong with the newer offerings from Boss or EHX
Super Demo!
Thank you!
Intro sounds dope!
Thank you very much 🙏
I need to DELAY the purchase of this pedal. But is on the list for the furture!
Ha! Good one!
Electroman was always cool but this really took it over the edge. Part of me worries I'd miss the effects loop. The other part of me sees all the built-in features
Bonjour Stefan, thank you for your always inspiring videos. i was wondering, given that it's the new version of their Electro Man, which is their take on the Memory man if I'm not mistaken, do you think you can get a Memory Man sound kind of, with th EM-III ? thank you :)
ooh, double freakout. yes!
All the yes!
Hi Stefan ! your videos are greats with super sound and poetry mood !
I have a question please : I love the sound of electroman MK2, does the sound of electroman MK3 is identic ? thanks !
Thank you! So the MK2 and the EM-III are based on completely different technology. MK2 uses the PT2399 delay chip whereas EM-III uses the FV-1 chip. This might not mean anything to you, but it's just to show that they are far from the same. You can get similar sounds from the EM-III due to its color knob, which lets you darken or brighten the repeats. So if you want to get MK2-like sounds from the EM-III then just darken the repeats a bit. To me, the EM-III is a vastly superior product compared to the MK2.
😉thank you very much ! long life to ThePedalZone !
Hey brother. Tonally, how would you compare this pedal to the Emma navigator? Really looking for a pristine delay without chorusing repeats? Thanks 🙏
Stefan, you should make affiliate links because every single pedal you demo makes me want to buy them. I'm serious! I was looking at a Walrus Audio Arp-87 and then I found this pedal, looked up your demo and now I want to buy it hahaha You created once again beautiful sounds!
Supremely kind of you! Definitely get an EM-III. It's wonderful. One of the best pedals I've played this year.
@@thepedalzone I didn‘t notice you answered. I got a Strymon El Capistan instead, but I might have to send it back if I don‘t get it to work in my rig :/ (everything in front of a slightly dirty Marshall) I‘m still considering the E-MIII.
And thank you for your great videos, always inspiring and relaxing to watch your demos.
I’ve been thinking about getting this. What is your favorite tape delay/space echo pedal for sounding closest to the real deal, being somewhat affordable (300 or less) and being able to do the Radiohead stuff?
well, this is like rubberneck brother with high-pass filter and different heads choices. of course, behaves a bit differently, but I should admit it lacks fx loop and tap-in port - no way to sync its rhythm with other gear like a second delay. other differences: 1sec vs 2secs and wet only feature on rubberneck's side. I think, every delay should have tap-in port, so crucial. nice demo!
The bottom row controls are pure genius. But 1 second... I'd want more from a digital delay
Yup! Pure genius.
Why is this thing not MIDI controllable? Changing between all the toggle settings by hand seems to be very impractical from a live guitarists perspective. It sounds so damn good though. Even if that Octave setting was a foot switch, like on the OBNE MINIM, it would make life so much easier. This demo was incredible. You sure know how to make a believer out of me!
Because that would have made it much more expensive. The features you get at this price point from a fairly small pedal brand is really great! Happy you liked the demo and the sounds. I think it's a phenomenal delay, and I'm putting it on my main board today 😊
4:20 time to repeat, love it
Thank you!
Let's say for example I used the 3-delay heads, then I decided to switch off the pedal. If I switch it on again, will it be defaulted to 1-delay head or will it be on the last delay head (3-delay) that I used?
I don't know what you have going on sound wise... But to me the EM-III sounds very warm.
I have my guitar, the pedal and my amp going on. That's all. But yeah, it has a nice warm atmospheric tone to it for sure 😊
Oh Wow, that sounds sweet. How do you think the EM-III compares to the Cusack Tap-A-Delay Deluxe?
Both are great devices. The Cusack leans much more into a darker tape echo vibe, whereas the EM-III can handle everything from dark, clear and pristine, and radically lo-fi. The EM-III is a much more versatile unit, whereas the Cusack is a much more specialised unit. So it depends on what you need.
Hey Stefan, love your channel! I would love to see you demo the EHX ModRex. It is awesome and I bet you could do some amazing things with it.
Thank you! ModRex definitely looks like a unique device
subscribing because i seen an iPhone being used for music. And I want to do that . That's the coolest of everything..
Awesome! Thanks. And welcome. I have an entire video dedicated to how to use your phone with your pedals and a display of some of my favorite iOS apps for music
@@thepedalzone cool I need all the help I can get. I got started recording did some samples years ago posted them. And daughter with cancer then wife the about everything else happened. Hopefully this time I can get rolling. I was Able to order one of the solid gold fx pedals. Seen your video and fell in love with them. Peace ✌️
Are you still enjoying this pedal?? Great demo man
Very much so! It's suck a killer delay pedal. Extremely versatile and sounds great. Happy you liked the demo. Means a lot to me!
How well does the octaver work with bass guitar? Has anyone tried or demoed this?
Can i ask where did you get that little upright guitar pedal stand?
Sounds like a cleaner and more versatile "version" of Demedash Effects T-120
Okay. Never tried that pedal, so can't really comment on that. I like the look of the T-120 though 😊 But versatile is the right word for the EM-III. It's insanely flexible and versatile.
Btw this and black fountain?
So is this an analog or a digital circuit? Ie. can it do the pristine clean delays the DD3 can while also doing this? 👀 Asking for a friend cause my bank account is dead. Sounds killer.
It’s a digital pedal 😊👍
I didn’t quite catch how you engage the octave with the toggle...is it a fourth position?
Flicking the toggle switch to the right turns the octave on and off. Flicking the toggle switch to the left toggles between 3 delay head configurations
You’ve demoed so many intriguing delays recently...what makes you prefer to put this one on your board despite all the excellent options?
Well, I always have more than one delay on my main board. I have at least two, but often more. So just because this one is on the board, doesn’t mean I’m omitting others. But the reasons why this one is going on the board are range of sounds, sound quality, size, tap tempo and ease of use
@@thepedalzone Would you mind saying which has better sound quality alone (forgetting feature sets) out of the Keeley Eccos and this one? I was looking at buying one but both is not affordable.
Thanks for your time...really enjoy your playing and tones.
@@JPMonstie They both sound phenomenal. You can't go wrong no matter what you choose.
6:53 SIIIIIICCCKKK!!!!! :)))))
Ha! Thanks. I’m really happy with how that drum machine example turned out. There’s so many real-time sound design possibilities in this pedal 😊
A person can never have enough delay, reverb, or fuzz pedals. A different one for every week of the year.
This is the way!
Between this pedal and your ultimate favorite the dispatch master.... which one do you like more ??:)
They are soooo different and serve completely different purposes, in my book. So you can't really pit them against each other like that. If you want a compact but full-featured delay pedal with a ton of rhythmic and tone-sculpting options, then go for the EM-III. If you want a symbiotic marriage between delay and reverb for perfect always-on ambience, then go for the Dispatch Master.
Sounds to me like both together it is... I guess you desert island pedal still remains the dispatch master ?
Also correct me if I’m wrong but it seems you can’t get around 65 to 75 percent of the sounds in the dispatch master with the em 3?
Major disappointment in that they dropped the external FX send/receive which made the original Electroman so amazing. SG does make the best sounding delay out there though. Sounds so much like the old Ibanez AD 230, so warm and gooey.
To be honest, this is a completely different product to the old Electroman delays. It's built on a completely different DSP tech with completely different features and aims for completely different sounds. The old Electroman delays were indeed very much in the vein of old analog delays, whereas this one is more going for a echoplex/echorec-mixed-with-modern-soundscape-madness kinda vibe. So I think it's great that this one has a style all of its own, even though fx inserts are a lot of fun. But it also means that you can easily have the EM-III AND the Electroman MkII on your board at the same time, since they are far from the same units.
11:43 You were channeling Eigengrau here, weren't you? :D
Not on purpose, but I love that you can hear them in that segment. Absolutely love that band so much!
@@thepedalzone I only discovered them when you recommended them the other day in your video! Radiant and Intrinsic are masterpieces! I wish they hadn't broken up.
is the octave adjustable? or is it set to one frequency? thanks
What do you mean? Do you mean bud you can change the pitch? If so, no, it’s just an octave down effect that you can turn on and off
Can the el capistan do anything like this?
Damn... 😳
Damn indeed 😊
Aesthetics... I just kinda wish it had kept the look of the EM2-- no problem with the form factor, just the font and paint. But, even if it was painted grey with Daffy Duck on it it would still sound amazing. No offense to Daffy Duck...
Art is always such a personal thing. I greatly prefer the look of this one to be honest, but the MkII looked lovely as well.
How many more delays must I own. Stop it already Stefan. Just kidding. Off course you can never have enough delays.
The answer is always: One more! 😊
Catching up man,......
It must hurt at times
Everybody hurts sometimes
Aaaaaand it's Mono.
Lost interest.
Just get two of them. XD
@@SquareWaveSymphonies it's not an option. Seriously, don't understand how in this day and age fx are still sold as simple mono. It's like they couldn't be bothered
@@jumpingman8160 seriously, it is only 209 bucks USD! Most normal persons rigs are Mono anyway... Put it another way if you want a real tape delay or things that this box sounds like it emulates very well based on this demo (like a Binson Echorec - how much are they??) they would all be mono too! If you need stereo, add a different delay or reverb on the end like I will. Will order this today... sounds killer!
@@patgowers2982 not really and the thing is digital. Plus keyboard players are left aside.
if you want stereo, along with the price tag the additional hardware requires, there is the volante. if you want a mono priced device, this is an option.
