As with the Super Famicom/SNES, cartridges, plus advances in chip technology, meant that hardware updates were instead included _in individual games._
Same here man, Probably spent 3x more time on my GBC than any other console i've owned. The damn thing never left my side for many years. Still have it, still works!
It was a pretty logical model upgrade in that they took the issues most people had with the original Game Boy (being a little too bulky and not having a color screen) and addressed them since technology had advanced to the point where this could be done in a cost-effective and battery-efficient manner. The original model already had such an extensive library at that point that its owners really couldn't complain even if every game from there on out had been Game Boy Color exclusive.
Maybe that’s what Nintendo is doing with the switch, waiting until technology becomes cheap enough that they can make a Super Nintendo switch that can almost Handel ps5 and xsx type of games

I'm surprised Pokémon Gold and Silver were playable on the original Gameboy since one of the new features was Shiny Pokémon, whose entire deal is that they have a different color palette than their non-Shiny counterparts.
Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto themselves were involved in developing that game, and it shows. Ham-ham Heartbreak and Rainbow Rescue also were fantastic games.

5:48 Can we just admit how impressive it was that Donkey Kong Country, which was a massive SNES limit pusher, was shrunk down to a Game Boy Color game and still playable?
Hell yes it was. One of my favorite GBC-exclusive titles. The 'semi-linearity' of finding the treasures that each have a sort of 'level progress unlocking tree' was an interesting approach. I loved the fact that it would let you replay all of the bosses, _and_ go back and do something else in one level.
Huge thank you for giving some love to the LoZ Oracle games, they are amazing and still some of my all time favorite Zelda games. Also I know it sounds weird but Quest For Camelot was actually a pretty decent game back then, pretty much a Zelda clone but better than I expected
You can't say the Oracle games were Nintendo's crowning achievement of the GBC era if you haven't played Wario Land 3. One of the greatest games ever made.
It hurt to see him brush aside that title and move on. Don't get me wrong, Oracle of Ages was my first Zelda game and blew my mind, and began an unforgettable foray into that series. But when I think of my time playing games exclusive to the GBC, Wario Land 3 is always the first thing that comes to mind. I don't know if I ever even beat it....that game is a JOURNEY. I know I unlocked the golf game though. I played that on the toilet so much. Sunk a lot of hole-in-ones, if you know what I mean.

I have a lot of second hand nostalgia for Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games. I grew up at a time when both the DS and GBA were kinda relevant, and though I only ever owned a DS I still sort of want a GBA. As with the Super Famicom/SNES, cartridges, plus advances in chip technology, meant that hardware updates were instead included _in individual games._

If they thought the original Game Boy was too bulky, imagine what they'd think of the Switch.

You can't say the Oracle games were Nintendo's crowning achievement of the GBC era if you haven't played Wario Land 3. One of the greatest games ever made.
One of my all time faves. Got my first copy in a trade for Mega Man 2 (GB).
I know. Wario Land 3 is one of the greatest sidescrolling platformers Nintendo has spat out, and to see Scott brush it aside like that infuriated me.
@@RetroTechSelect I was born the same year the game came out so I didn't play it on the GBC. I played it on the 3DS VC in 2015 after marathoning the Mario Land games and Wario Land 2. I still haven't played 4 or Shake It though
Yeah! Im still kinda upset he barely talked about it
I have a lot of second hand nostalgia for Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games. I grew up at a time when both the DS and GBA were kinda relevant, and though I only ever owned a DS I still sort of want a GBA.
There’s something about the look of the graphics, the simple yet often deep gameplay, the pure childhood feel and charm of it all. It makes me feel like a kid again whenever I look at some of the gameplay and box art, even though I’ve never played most of these games.
I’d love to maybe collect for it one day.
I have still played certain GBA games like dragon ball avatar the last air bender although I had the ds lite
Don't collect for it. Buy what you want to actually play, don't buy for the sake of buying.
