    Every time I shadow box even it seems like I can only go for like 5-7 minutes then my shoulder starts to feel a little achy so I let off for a session in a couple days. I’ve noticed my shoulders are definitely kind of rounded forward like that I’m glad I caught it at 20 so I can correct it

      It is good that you listened to your body and searched for answers! I’m sure you can work on correcting your posture and come back with a stronger punch!

    Good info - also add bad technique. I'm 69 so I already have a few miles on the body, but when I allow my elbow to drop below my hand when I'm throwing a hook on the bag, I jolt my arm and shoulder and it takes a while to heal up. I find it easier to keep the elbow up when I hook palm-down rather than palm-in.

    Great video. I have being doing kick boxing for about a year. Had to stop 2 months ago due to slight rip in my left tendons. I can t move my arm up, straight above my neck and out sideways. Pain is quite bad near my detriods at the back and down my arm. Been to hospital, and doing physio treatment. Doing my exercises, slowly getting stronger. But will I fully recover and get my strength back. Any tips would be great .... Dr said don't use the damage arm with impact on bag work until healing is complete...Thanks againTrev

      Keep with the physio you need to have full range of motion then build up strength in all shoulder directions. To get back in to boxing, after your physio clears you, I would start with shadow boxing, and punching drills. You could even hold light weight (1-2 pounds) or resistance bands to get help you slowly build the strength back up. This is a great time to work on form and technique. If make it through a good 30-45 min workout without pain, and minimal muscle fatigue then slowly integrate bag work. You just don't want to go back full force into bag work, without building back up first.

    Yeah whenever I throw a jab specifically it gets a weird pain almost like my arm has a weak connection to my shoulder, I think it’s from over extending

    • @drmollymcdonald
      @drmollymcdonald  7 месяцев назад +1

      @brycepoo5039 you might trying to slow shadow box in front of a mirror so you can stop yourself from over extending then as you get comfortable with the range of motion you want speed up the jap and see if you still have that pain. If you still have pain “disconnect feeling” that might be a sign of shoulder instability. If you have a local physical therapist they will help you improve that stability.

    Is it common to have sore and stiff shoulder muscle for beginners? I'm using bag with rugs in it. On a scale of 1-10 I feel only 1 pain

    • @drmollymcdonald
      @drmollymcdonald  Год назад

      Yes, shoulder soreness is very normal when you start. So normal in fact that if you can lift your arms without them feel like 50 # weights you might have room to push yourself. (just joking) if you have a 1/10 this is not cause for alarm. After you get in the groove you’ll notice if what you feel is “normal” or something that feel strange/ or not right. Stick with it learning to punch and getting good at it is amazing…the pop of a good punch on a heavy bag is a wonderful noise.

    My right shoulder got sore after the first few training sessions when I started boxing. My reasoning was like this: "My punch is like a projectile and it wants to fly away. What keeps it in its place are my shoulder and elbow joints. Since I try to throw right crosses too hard while shadowboxing, my tendons around the shoulder get stretched, trying to keep the joint in place."
    Do I have a point or am I just too ignorant? : )

    • @drmollymcdonald
      @drmollymcdonald  11 месяцев назад

      I like your thinking. It is very true that you are trying to generate enough force with your trunk and shoulder to launch your hand some where (the air, a bag or some ones face😉 ). And just like how your hips, knees and ankles ligaments/ muscles need to get stronger to jump properly (good initial explosion, properly extension, and effective force absorption with landing) Your shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand ligaments/ muscles have to get stronger to tolerate the amount of force you can generate, in addition, to the forces of impact. As long as you allow yourself recovery time, and the pain eventually stops with the same intensity of work you have nothing to worry about. Also depending on your training program, it is shocking how heavy your arms are after just 3 minutes of swinging at the air. We don't tend to hold our arms up for 3 minutes at a time let along for 3- 4 rounds. hope this helps. feel free to ask more questions

      That’s unfortunate shadow boxing with a weight is definitely a good exercise for strength and speed. This is something that you can over come, I’ve helped several people stop pain with weighted shadowboxing.

    Can you do boxing after dislocation and having bankart surgery? Thanks 🙏

    • @drmollymcdonald
      @drmollymcdonald  11 месяцев назад

      @rosssaggers4511 I wish that I could give you a straight answer to your question. To “safely” get back to boxing, certainly if you mean sparing not just hitting a bag, requires a lot of shoulder stability. And simply have a shoulder surgery impairs the structures that naturally give your shoulder stability. If you have a good training program which would require a physical therapist to help get the stability back in your shoulder it is possible. There are a lot of variables to consider for this recovery such as how you got injured, how you heal from the surgery etc. My personal opinion is that you could get back to boxing.
      If you worked with me we would map out milestones we needed to hit to demonstrate the improvements in your shoulders health/strength/stability. All that said conventional wisdom says that once you’ve injured something it’s easier to re-injured it. The concepts of the milestones for me is to stack the deck in your favor that your shoulder would be strong enough to keep boxing with minimal risk. Realizing you could live on the other side of the world trying to find someone who will help you map out a path back to boxing.

    My left arm feels sore in the back of the shoulder after i throw alott of punches on a bag, any recommendation on what to do? I do rotator cuff exercises, pulling exercises. It feels back of shoulder, shoulder blade area feels sore as well

    • @drmollymcdonald
      @drmollymcdonald  6 месяцев назад

      That might just be normal soreness, after a good workout. Without seeing your shoulder it would be hard to pinpoint what you specifically need. However, you can't go wrong with adding both rotator cuff and pulling exercises to your exercise routine.

    Hey Ms. My name is Jayden Posadas from the San Fernando valley. I’ve been boxing since I was 8 always inconsistent but since last years august I have been more consistent training for months at a time I got taken out went back again in November and I stayed consistent untill March. I train at home whenever I can’t be in the gym and now as of lately everytime I fight, shadow box, or even do normal things like jump high my shoulder pops. It pops out forward and it locks up for 4 seconds or more and then it pops back in and I can move it perfectly fine but with discomfort and slight pain. This happens almost everytime I punch for a while but I can still move it I can still workout and I can still punch but that’s the risk. What do you think it is? I’ve tried everything I can to help it out. Please ms I can’t keep going without boxing 😥

    • @drmollymcdonald

      @knkouteducation I currently working with an athlete was having a very similar problem. He could feel his shoulder pop in/out of joint and he was very afraid he would have to have surgery and/ or have to stop working out. He is now much stronger and is starting to transition back into his normal workout without out any problems. Just from the limited information you gave I don't think you have to assume the worst for your shoulder. I do think you should look for a physical therapist help you evaluate your shoulder to identify why your shoulder pops forward so they can help you stop that from getting worse. There are lots of reasons you shoulder could be doing and all can be helped, but truly it is always better the soon you get started.
