      Believe it or not when it first came out in the 40's is was called the crockpot slow cooker..
      Interesting fact.. the Crock-Pot was invented in 1940 by Irving Nachumsohn. Nachumsohn invented the slow cooker to cook cholent, a traditional Jewish stew eaten on the Sabbath. But, since Jews were forbidden from cooking on the Sabbath, he could cook it slowly over the course of several hours the day before and then carry the pot to dinner.
      I personally have always called it a crockpot... I even Nick name mine.. Pearl died, now I have Ebony. Pearl lived over 20 yrs, I hope Ebony, my newest lives just as long, but they just don't make things as the use to..
      Sorry, I'll shup now.
      Happy cooking & God bless.

      @@homecookbasics Well, an instant pot is a glorified pressure cooker and cooks the same things as a slow cooker, except at twice the speed. I do sweet potatoes in my Instant Pot and I've done a chicken - so far, so good. I have solar power, so the speed of the Instant Pot is good because it doesn't drain the storage batteries so much as a slow cooker would do.

    Looks wonderful! This will be my first time (tomorrow) cooking a whole chicken in the crockpot. I'm wondering, though, about putting the salt directly on the chicken skin before cooking... won't that dry out the chicken?

  • @fenradast3577

    Very interesting. Either you have blunt knife or the chicken was way undercooked. Certainly not fall off the bone.

    You made crockpot chicken look so easy and yummy. I want to try your recipe but I'm worried that since the seasoning is on the skin that the meat won't have all the flavor like the skin will have. My husband only eats crispy chicken skin so I'm afraid the seasoning will be a waste. I don't want to use my oven, don't want to heat up my house in this heatwave. What was your experience with the flavor of the meat?

    One suggestion: spray the ceramic pot with Pam or similar non-stick cooking spray. It helps prevent stuff from burning and sticking to the pot.

    • @homecookbasics
      @homecookbasics  3 года назад +5

      I stay away from that fake oil stuff like "Pam". Nothing sticks so you should be fine.

    • @jessicah3450
      @jessicah3450 2 года назад +1

      If you give the chicken a good rub down with butter or olive oil, it doesn't stick. Pam leaves a residue on my cookware, but maybe that is just my luck.

      Nope, the bird has enough liquid for sure. The onions kind of prop it out of the liquid on the bottom.

    See, I knew it. Normally a whole chicken cooked in a crock pot the skin comes out disgusting, rubbery and soft, I’ve tried everything to avoid this. The only option is throwing it in the oven for the crispy skin. What if you don’t have an oven, like me? No options.
