    On the passenger transmission mount the two studs that are bolted into the transmission, when I attempted to remove the nuts that thread into these studs, the studs came out together with the nuts due to corrosion. Do you have any tips on how to separate the two? I attempted to use vise grips with the teeth wrapped in electric tape to hold onto the threaded stud and a wrench on the nut but that didn't work too well. Thank you.

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  4 года назад +1

      Spray some PB blaster inside the nut. there should be a flat spot in the middle of the stud where you can put a vise grip on it, or put it in a vise. You don't want to clamp down on the threads l, even if they're wrapped, it'll end up stripping them. When you get it locked down pretty good, then you can either hit it with an impact, or try a wrench. You may Have to put some heat to it so you can back the nut off.

    • @vanquishstorm3806
      @vanquishstorm3806 4 года назад +1

      @@Nthefastlane I layered two pieces of hose rubber around the flat middle part of the stud to prevent it from gouging using vice grips but I still could not remove the nut flange. I don't have access to a torch or table vise so I'm going to order new replacements from Honda. My challenge now is mating the transmission to the block, trying to align the input shaft with the clutch disc/pilot bearing is a back-breaker for sure.

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  4 года назад +2

      Let the jacks do the work. Raise or lower the jack on the transmission, then raise or lower the jack on the oil pan. Just make sure you have a piece of wood under the oil pan so you don't scratch it up.

    • @vanquishstorm3806
      @vanquishstorm3806 4 года назад

      @@Nthefastlane Yes, I have a jack with a piece of 2x4 in between supporting the oil pan. I also have a jack with a piece of wood bolted onto the base supporting the trans. I used the alignment key when installing the clutch so I know it's centered. I believe both splines on the input shaft and clutch disc are in alignment with eachother as I took note the positioning when removing the alignment key. I'll keep trying. Thanks for the insight.

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  4 года назад

      When you get the transmission spline started, start to turn the transmission back and forth as you push forward, it'll help line up the splines.

    Wish my transmission would line up and slide in that easy. 2007 civic ex 1.8L, just got the new clutch in but my transmission doesn’t want to line up right and slide in as smooth. The transaxle in the back is on slightly but the spindle from the transmission into the flywheel doesn’t want to go in at all. Everything has been lubed up so I’m not sure what I could be doing wrong

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  4 года назад +1

      A lot of times it's all about the leverage and lining the splines up. Most of the time you may think that the transmission is level with the engine, but if you can step back a bit and get a square look at it you'll see how it's dropped too much. The minute you get it perfectly lined up it'll slide in like butter.

    Is it even possible for the pilot bearing and clutch to be misaligned and still get the gearbox on? or does it HAVE to be aligned to physically get it on?

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  6 лет назад +1

      The pilot bearing really can't be accidentally misaligned, it's pressed into the flywheel. Now the pilot bearing does more than just align the splines on the transmission, the input shaft goes through the clutch and into the pilot bearing,the pilot bearing keeps the input shaft in the correct position with the Flywheel. In a way it supports the input shaft and keeps it aligned.

    • @Fuzion180
      @Fuzion180 6 лет назад +1

      Ah right okay I see! so the shaft goes through the clutch and physically into the flywheel pilot bearing. So if the flywheel WAS out of alignment, the shaft just couldn't go in. Glad to hear that because I wasn't 100% sure if mine was bang on centre, it looked it near enough but the gearbox has gone on anyway so it must've been right then. Thanks for the help top video

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  6 лет назад

      Correct, the tool is used to keep the clutch aligned when you tighten down the pressure plate. If the tool was not installed through the clutch into the pilot bearing, then as you tighten the pressure plate, it would crush the clutch in the wrong position and you would never get the transmission shaft in.

    I did this on mine but it doesn’t wanna clutch after it was done. I turn it on and I try to clutch and it don’t wanna. It’s a stage 4 clutch with 6 sprung hub. It’s put correctly and everything. Idk why it’s doing that. Any advice?

    Why did you remove the radiator? I'm curious about that because I didn't remove it and came down perfect.

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  8 лет назад +1

      In the video I mentioned it had a pinhole leak and I was replacing it so I just kind of threw the clip in there.But another reason would be,the impact gun wouldn't fit between the tranny front mount and the radiator.Plus no one wants to bend a dual core radiators fins.But it can be done without removing it and you don't have to drain the radiator fluid, but the way I do jobs, I like a lot of space to work with so I kind of gut things and it makes the job go a lot easier.

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  4 года назад

      Sure why not. What it boils down to is just how much of a stiff clutch you like. I personally like a clutch that grabs hard. A unsprung clutch will grab extremely hard versus a sprung clutch.

    Do you know anything about 01 honda insight shr transmissions? Planning on rebuilding mine(all new bearings/seals) my isb is for sure gone plus maybe other ones. Just wondering anything to look out for. Also what is a good brand clutch? looks like they do make a spec for mine but wondering what is next premium brand? already has 250k and daily driver so not needing top of the line clutch unless there is a reason for it.

    I don't find it necessary to remove the distributor and the radiator but other than that good video for people doing this for the first time

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  8 лет назад +2

      If the radiator was still in I wouldn't of been able to get the impact gun in there, as for the distributor, it just makes it easier to get to the top bolts on the transmission. All in all it was better for the filming so everyone could see. But you're right,it isn't necessary.

    Hey I have a question when removing the rear main seal plate. Do u need to remove the oil pan. Just wondering bc I have the jack holding the engine up by the oil pan. I will be replacing the oil pan gasket after installing the transmission back. So I don't care if I damage the gasket. Thanks for any feedback

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  7 лет назад

      Marcos Olivera Yes, there are studs that come out of the rear main seal plate into the oil pan with 10mm nuts.

    • @ftwpak2205
      @ftwpak2205 7 лет назад

      Nthefastlane but can I remove the rear seal plate without removing the oil pan

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  7 лет назад

      Marcos Olivera Yours might not have studs or they came out. You still need to drop the oil pan because the oil pan seal pushes up on the rear main seal plate . reinstalling it will not guarantee a proper seal, plus you need to RTV the cracks where the rear main seal plate meets the block.

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  7 лет назад

    • @Nthefastlane

      It's a dead end plug. The piece that goes into it has pins that all connect to each other and create one solid ground for all the wires such as injectors ect. Nothing to worry about. It doesn't plug into anything.

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  5 лет назад

      If everything was installed correctly, my first guess would be that your clutch pedal needs to be adjusted. It sounds like it's not releasing all the way. Basically you get up underneath the dash where your clutch pedal is an adjust the linkage shaft until it stop compressing the master cylinder when it's not being pushed.

      I would double check that you removed the sneaky bolt on the inside from the rear T bracket. By the shift linkage where it meets the transmission. If you removed all of the bolts, the best advice I can give you is to get a jack underneath the transmission and make sure the transmission isn't hanging, hanging will cause it to stick. You want to get the transmission as level as possible, then it comes out like butter.
