    I forget which batch of Victoriana I had, but I loved it! I went back and got a second bottle because of how rapidly it disappeared, and the backup bottle performed the same trick...

    Thanks for the review guys. Your palates are like a spectrograph. You can both pick the subtleties most mortals would miss. It helps us novices heaps. I still have 2 bottles a full bottle I picked up 2 years ago and one I visit occasionally. I’ll have to have another go following your review. Cheers

    I've got half a bottle left I've been savoring for a couple of years. It is a solid bottle and it doesn't really need water at all. It was my whisky of the year for 2021. At the time I payed 75 Aud on special that works out to 50 usd which is really good value.

    I could not find and it was never even sold in my state so bought one last time in Scotland.
    Glad I got it and like it but as much as others seem to love it I rather have an Octomore or a Port Charlotte

    I found this exact bottle to be a bit of a chameleon malt. I have a 2017 bottling still at 51.5% and it always changes whenever I drink it. I've had it once where it was a massive clove bomb in taste. Glad to have 1 backup and also managed to get a 2018 only Batch 001 version of the Victoriana at 54.8% before it became the 54.2% it is now. Will be fun to compare those 2.

    I just open my bottle which is from 2019 version, I really like it a lot, feels like there are a significant amount of sherry inside, which also mixed quite well with the bourbon

    Dustin naied it for me, I have the same bottle and it's really nice but I don't ever go out of my way for it. I haven't tried the newer ones yet either, but I think they're slightly more preferred? Either way, I still see this around $80 in some places, which is certainly a buy at that price. My hesitation would start at $100. Cheers!

    I voted in the OSWAs but not for this bottle. There are a few theories doing the rounds as to why it won 'Whisky of the Year' but I think the most convincing is that it's a cask strength Campbelltown whisky and it's AVAILABLE and affordable. People will even forgive its NAS status when you factor in the above.

    • @topshelfdustin3060
      @topshelfdustin3060 Год назад +2

      The cask strength thing must REALLY be driving this. That said...I've never seen one of these for sale in person. I had to go online. I can find a springbank 10 right now. But my biggest gripe remains the 15 is just better, cheaper (from what i've seen), and did I mention just better?

    • @welshtoro3256
      @welshtoro3256 Год назад

      @@topshelfdustin3060 I'm in my hometown of Cardiff right now and I went into a shop the other day and there, on the shelves, were bottles of Springbank 10, Longrow Peated, Kilkerran 12 and Kilkerran 16. The Springbank 10 was £75 a bottle so I gave the manager a stern look and asked why? He told me he got them from a wholesaler as the distillery wont sell to him direct. His choice was one bottle of Springbank 10 from another wholesaler for £50 or six at £75 along with the other stuff from another. The Kilkerran was reasonbly priced. He went for the numbers but I was in that shop on Christmas Eve and regular folk who know nothing about whisky were walking past it.

      @@welshtoro3256 75 is about what retail is here in the states. It's funny how value works. If you were into bourbon you'd be paying prices I'd vomit at the though of and vice versa.
      But at the end of the day you have access to the bottles, and while those prices are high. I don't think you grasp what "markup" means to those of us who drink bourbon. Anything less than 250% markup isn't seen as much sadly.

    Further info from Roy Aquavitae:
    "Typically" it is:
    70% 10yo first fill bourbon
    10% 12yo first fill bourbon
    20% 16-18yo refill American and European
    These are vatted and filled into 30% first fill PX hogsheads/butts and 70% heavily charred American for another 12 months.
    Then vatted again (!) and put into "inert" 3rd or 4th refill barrels to let it "marry for a bit longer".
    Phew. £72 in the UK.

    I found the older victoriana’s to be better honestly. The newer bottles are still a decent pour though. As far as NAS bottles go however, I’m really surprised this would get selected over something like Lore, which is far more interesting IMO.

    • @TheReal_DeanD
      @TheReal_DeanD Год назад +1

      I've also seen the Laphroaig Lore appearing in more stores. Maybe it is the price as to why the Lore didn't win. Lots of Laphroaig bottles have gone up in price in the last couple of years.More than other distilleries.
