When it comes down to it, both cameras are great. You just have to think about what means more to you: the ease of using a camera and just getting the shot effortlessly, or video quality above all else, bearing in mind that both still have great video quality even though one is better than the other.
I've been blown away by what my Pocket 2 can do... it's great for shots too close for the GoPro and also for anything indoors or low light. It's also one of the most discrete cameras to walk around in public with. I actually think that a Pocket 2, *and* an action camera (plus your phone) make a great team as they all compliment each other. The Pocket is a very under rated camera IMHO.

I am a proud owner of both the Action 3 and Pocket 2 and love them both for what I do on my channel @WanderEats where I use the Action 3 for everything except low light when I switch to the Pocket 2. For long walks where I can't be sure if the light is consistent, I would use the Pocket 2 as well. So far it works wonderfully.

Great comparison video! So... it depends on your use.. I've been using Pocket2 for over a year and it always did his job perfectly. Neverthless, the FOV isn't enough wide for most situations, that's why I'm getting the OA3 (wider FOV + Battery life).

I noticed in the update on Action 3 the ability to adjust external mic gain levels very easily. Odd it wasn't in the release notes. Kind of a game changer.

Another super video, Tamara. For me, one big advantage of the Action 3 would be the weather-proofing, since I spend a lot of time on the beach. I don't think the Pocket 2 would last long without getting ruined by sand. And as a friend found with his Pocket 2, dropping it into water finished it off, whereas the Action 3 would have been fine. Both cameras are amazing, however, and far better than we could have imagined such small items to be a decade or two ago. Keep up the great work!

I wish everyone did what you did here in the intro, a comparison without saying which is which. It can be really hard to overcome one's preconceptions when choosing between products, and examples like this reveals what you really like, at least for me who appreciates image quality. Thank you ☺️ Yeah, you’re right about the preconceptions; I hadn’t even thought about it like that with the comparisons at the beginning, it’s not something that I often do. Maybe I’ll do it more moving forward though.
Having used the pocket 2 I sold it due to my fear of snapping it’s head off and the tiny screen I just couldn’t work with.
The action 3 is on my wish list.

I've been using a Pocket 2 for all my channel's travel videos. I love its compact size and versatility compared to a phone+gimbal setup. However, I am interested in owning an Action 3 in the near future as well, for those shots and places I can't use my Pocket 2.
I really love my Osmo Action 3, Today I finally got to test it out making a snow plowing video in low light and it performed amazing. Pocket 2 is a really great gimbal camera but I find it too light makes my b-rolls more shaky.
I just bought the pocket 2, and I still have not used it, but this video really helped me feel like I made the right choice for what I am going to use it for.

Another great video from you. I got both and despite the fact that Pocket 2 screen is too small, it still gives you some visibility when you film with non conventional angles (close to the ground or up). Love Action screen, but it’s fix, so you can’t see so well when you move the camera (at Pocket wins with its fixed tilt mode). My best setting is having my phone as a monitor based on a mobile RAM mount ball. But to be honest, I carry both cameras and use them depending on circumstances. Can’t wait for Pocket 3 !!!
Yep, they both make good vlogging cameras but each do better in certain situations depending on what you’re filming.
Depth of view on P2 is interesting , giving a more « reflex » look to the footage as you said. In fact I sold my ZV-1 and big gimbal: Pocket 2 is not as good but it makes the job and I prefer compact package when travelling (Pocket + Action+ One X3 + eventually drone … so having a big camera is too heavy, especially for motorbike travel)
I love the Pocket 2 but remember if there is any chance of rain - you can’t use it. Hope the Pocket 3 has some water resistance.
I’ve just gone back to the Pocket 2 from using the Action 2. The image is soooo much sharper as it does not have any eis. 👍

I initially got the pocket 2 which was amazing but i took it back for these 4 reasons,
Battery life and non replaceable battery,
Not as wide as the action 3,
Seems to fragile if it gets dropped i was actually scared to use it!
Not weather proof
So now i have the action 3 and i love it.

I absolutely love your videos. Awesome audio and visuals with a soothing voice. That said, i went for the Action 3
I would say that footage from the pocket 2 looks way better when filimg the environment and walking, but it may be my personal preference with the narrower FOV(i immidiately knew the pocket 2 is camera 1 and I liked the footage much more). Talking head looks better on the action but this may be fixed if you have the pocket 2 on an extended pole.
I prefer the colors on the pocket 2 especially after color correction. On my screen the action 3 seems to swallow the Darks while the pocket 2 feels like you can see a bit more of them.

However its battery and not water resistant is a bit bothering me when I tried to do more creative shot, and now looking into owning an action camera which is Action 3. I think I have made up my mind :)

Hi Tamara. Another GREAT video - perfect combination of example footage and information, with the technical info pitched at a level I believe most will understand. I don't know how "adverts within videos" works, but in my opinion, and if you have control, there were too many in this piece.

Thank you for this nice comparison. I use Pocket 2 for my videos and knowing its limitations, I was looking for another additional camera. Action 3 was so great on the surface that I almost bought it. But after watching video tests, I've found that GoPro 11 wins, and no one beats P2 in low light and autofocus.... I need wide angle to shoot myself, and Pocket 2 is not satisfying in this direction. Anyway, I love it and looking forward for Pocket 3... But I'm afraid that it will not be that different.
I found some issues in this video. Is it a DJI thing? On small tree branches and grass, there is a flickering: 10:06
And I'd like to mention one issue with P2 which can be seen here 1:23 On Action 3 hand shakes are not visible thanks to electronic stabilization. On P2... All my close-ups are shaky! What if DJI would add electronic stabilization to P3?

The Action 3 is great; it handles highlights better and has better battery life; nonetheless, based on what I have seen in the footage, the Pocket 2 looks better in terms of image quality. It looks more cinematic in my opinion.

Tamara, the only thing that nobody is talking about is the focus, Action 3 (like all action cameras) does have a fixed focus, while the Pocket 2 has an actuall focus (like a blurry background you know)

Pocket 2 wins hands down. Action 3 has been a major flop. From Focus issues which is actually mechanical and not really fixable with software updates and overheating and fuzzy footage. Had 3 of them had to take them all back major letdown. This is well known in the youtube community as well.
If you can get one without the focus issue it’s a good camera. My second replacement worked great
I recently just got the osmo action 3 but I think the quality of video and pictures one put on a large 4k TV I would give it to the pocket 2 but hey I'm just a novice where your a pro. But they both have different uses I.e on a bike or electric scooter the osmo definitely better for Stabilization and as you mentioned the battery it is excellent. Pocket 2 video quality is better in general, but I feel like the Action 3 has more going for it.
pocket 2 because of shallow depth of field - if it is for vlogging, gives more emphasis on the subject
Shallow dof is nice to have, but I think I’d choose 4K120 over that.

@@TamaraGabrielUK also they try to market osmo for vlogging, but ultra wide angle makes faces look distorted or you crop in and loose quality, so IMHO for vlogging a big no
Yeah 4K120 when shooting certain b-roll shots whilst vlogging is great, but I guess it’s one of those things where certain features will mean more to one person than another. Pocket 2 for me is great when shooting alongside my A7s III because the footage matches better, in that instance I’d leave the A3 at home.
I was about to mention that... The pocket 2 is a focusing camera and the Action 3 is a fixed focus camera - for some that's a key consideration. (I was going to say that the Action 3 is an unfocused camera but I resisted the temptation, and anyway they seem to have resolved that issue now). Great video, Tamara.

@@TamaraGabrielUK Having an issue with it trying to straighten corners then jumping when filming through the windscreen. I sent you an email but it had a link in so probably went into spam. It transpires that there is no fix - it’s just the aggressive stabilisation. I need something with less aggressive stabilisation that doesn’t try to straighten bends in the road. If I switch off stabilisation the footage is too bumpy. The Sony FXR seems to have it just right - who knew? 🤦🏼♂️

I don’t have my pocket 2 yet, but your videos pointed me towards a question: When using it with an iPhone as a screen/controller etc, is the video recorded to the pocket 2, or the phone, or both? That’s very kind, thank you. When your phone is connected to the Pocket 2, it will still just record to the Pocket 2, but you can download the video footage from the Pocket 2 to your phone from the Mimo app.

Thanks for the comparison Tamara. I think you missed a very important question though, "Which one do you look the most silly walking around with"? Personally, I look silly without any camera stuck in front of my face, but that's not the point. I'm still pondering whether the low light capability (lack of) of these small sensor cameras is really going to keep me happy. I'm too used to full frame now, I think I've been spoiled!
I think if you know you’re going to filming a lot in low light, then sticking with a full frame camera is the better option.
@@TamaraGabrielUK Thanks for replying. Yes it is the better option really, but the bulk and weight is making it tough. Same with gimbals, I'm trying to balance light-weight with good performance. Not easy to get right.
Yeah, it can be tricky with trade-offs.
Both are amazing tbh but if I had to choose, I’d go with the Osmo Action 3 just because it’s more flexible and can handle more of the adventurous side of vlogging.

Thanks for this video!! I've been looking for a good set up for my videos especially when I go riding. Personally I prefer the look of the pocket 2 and would do my my main talking to camera on that and look at the Insta 360 x3 for my action shots purely for the versalitily of it. I bought the first dji action when it first came out and loved it, only downside was the width of the shot not as wide as go pros, do love the 10 bit upgrade on the new one esepcially for grading. As much as I would like to get the DJI pocket 2 now, thinking of holding out for the pocket 3 when it arrives. P.s. what is that tripod you had at the end with the action 3 where the legs extended?

Cool Comparison can you also do what fps to use because ireally want to use 24fps for motorcycle riding but its looks little juttery vs 30fps its ways smoother on rides idont want to use 60fps cuz its creates more data than usual. Thank youu

Just found your channel and this is the second video I’m watching. You filmed this using Sony Alpha a7S III Full-Frame??? Your indoor and outdoor footage looks stunning. Can you share what body, lens, filter, tweaks you used?
Thank you. Yeah, Sony A7s III. Outdoors I used the Sony 16-35mm F2.8 GM with a Freewell Mist VND Filter. And indoors I used the same camera but with the Sony 24mm F/1.4 GM and Freewell 1/8 Mist filter. And then about three COB LED lights. Filming in SLog3 and colour grading with FilmConvert Nitrate, which is an awesome plugin.

I made my thirst video yesterday wile driving to the south of Portugal.. came across terribly wether saying that I will be looking at the footage and mybe post my thirst osmo action 3 video... I have three video editors Filmora not free 30 days trial and Kedenlive, free available on windows Mac and Linux (free) and windows 10 free video editors .. Wish you well
Thanks so much for this helpful video. I recently bought a Hero 11, however wondered how the Osmo action 3 compared against it. Impression is that GoPro delivers some excellent footage, however I find that colors are often way too saturated (natural mode). Having used the pocket 2 from a friend during a trip last summer, i found the colors to be more true to life. In your opinion, will the action 3 have more natural tones than Gopro? Action 3 in Normal looks more natural in colours compared to H11 in Natural. But H11 in flat which is then graded looks better to me.

Hi Tamara, great honest review. Enjoy watching your videos. I have a couple of questions. What manufacture date is your final Action 3 camera, the one that works ? Mine is 08/22 and I think it’s not right. Do you think it works better now due to firmware updates or do you think your returned units had hardware issues ? I have 2 Action3 cameras and both shoot mushy oversaturated video in 2.7k 60FPS, Narrow FOV normal colour, auto settings. We use them on motorcycle helmets and ride off road. It seems many people are only interested in wide FOV but we find when filming other riders and scenery, landscapes look flat and objects small and farther than normal. Wide view takes away the real perspective of the environment. For V-logging wide is great. Are you able to try the settings above on your Action 3 and let us know your thoughts.

My old units with the focus issue were 08/22. My new ‘fixed’ unit is 11/22. If you think you have a focus issue, firmware won’t fix it, it’s a hardware issue so you’d need to get in touch with DJI for a replacement.
@@TamaraGabrielUK Thanks Tamara. I just received another Action 3 Camera and it’s manufacture date is 11 / 2022. I filmed with this unit and the original 08/2022 manufactured unit side by side. It was immediately noticeable the newer 11 / 2022 camera had a sharper image. Both cameras had the latest firmware installed. Not only was the 11 / 2022 manufactured camera sharper but the colour and detail had significantly improved. I think there is more than just a focus issue with the older units manufactured in August 2022. Great now to have a camera I can use in all modes with great results.

I'm confused. Maybe someone in the comments can help me out? So when you shoot in normal mode in the pocket 2 do you set the EV/exposure -1.3 but when you shoot in a colour profile you don't? I wish they would come out with the pocket 3!

Perhaps I will try one day and use both the wide angle lens, that originally came within my Creator’s Combo, and the DJI Osmo Pocket Extension Rod I got afterwards, If I can ever get them together to work and whenever I’ll need to test out some of the UHD capabilities on the Pocket 2.

While a very late commenter, I just realized; with a Smatree Portable Osmo Pocket 2 PowerStick and as an extension rod attached to the camera, the Pocket 2 is able to run about six (6) hours, continuously, over an equivalent to a whole two (2) additional charges worth of added usage to its original battery capacity. That seems economical when you consider a Pocket 2 has recently been priced approximately seventy dollars ($70.00 US) below the Action 3. And, that the particular extension rod -with its internal battery- might come within the price range close to the amount only of comparatively a couple of separate batteries which so long as detached you maybe have to insert very slowly, one after the other, into the Action 3 just to get it to last anywhere near as long…
I just got to root, and since I got my own Pocket 2 possibly amounting now to some real cost-savings!

Hi Tamara. I really enjoy your videos, finding them both informative and relaxing to watch. I'm also very interested to know if the amusing bit at the end of this one (at 10:24) where the Action 3's monopod extends without you realising it did so, is the monopod from the DJI Adventure Combo, or a different brand. If it's the one included in the Adventure Combo I'd be very pleased and will definitely be paying the extra to get it.

No problem. My main camera is the Sony A7s III with the Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM.
I couldn’t use the Pocket 2. I found the gimbal slowly drifted upwards using the camera for vlogging while cycling.
I think an action cam would be better in that scenario.

I think you answered your own question. But I think it depends how soon you want a camera, no one knows when the P3 will be released.

I am worried only about the battery life of pocket 2. I usually shoot with my dslr and mobile and thinking to get either pocket 2 or action3. Kindly suggest in terms of battery life (not only shooting time but also after about 2 years) can I buy pocket 2? Because, action 3 is using detachable battery which I can buy later even after 3-4 years. But what about pocket 2?
If battery life is a concern then the Action 3 could be the better choice

I have bean reading about the Gopro 10 black combo it comes with two batteries and a smal tripod and price here in Portugal it's about the same and the dgi... I actually really like the HERO10, I still have mine and use it alongside my HERO11. Some people have trouble with overheating and crashing. Mine overheated once on a really hot day, but that’s it. I’ve otherwise had a good experience. I actually use my GoPro more than my Action 3 because I prefer the quality of the GoPro.
Do you use a gimbal for the action 3 if so which one? Ill have my Action 3 combo pack here soon. Didnt know which to get or if its needed.

Btw, according to the big screen, the Pocket 2 still looks better, as the face looks more real and crisp, and there isnt that lens flare. But the Action 3 gets more in frame.

The pockets 2 is more for people who are serious about image quality. But the pockets 3 is an excellent all-rounder built for action.
Its interesting that the GoPro Hero 11 can be bought for just £50 extra, and The mini 11 is now on special offer too.
One last thing, do you own, or have you tried the Sony X3000?
It really does well in 1080p, and some vloggers are finding this preferable to the rest.
