Thank you for this video! I recently got a DJI Pocket 2 and am loving the camera. This video was very helpful as I learned a few things that I did not previously see. Specifically, changing the on-screen scrollbar from zoom to tilt is very handy!
Thank you Keith! I also unboxed a Pocket 2 recently, but just used it as a basic camera... These tips and tricks are really helpful for me, especially as you mentioned, there would be video shakings since it's so light and hard to feel it when we moving around; and better to connect with phone to keep it more stable in hand. Thank you, cheers!

Thanks! Useful tips! I just bought it to complement my OM4 and Mavic Mini. I followed through your tips with the pocket in my hand and I'm ready to go!
Thank you that was a great tips summary. The ISO tip is similar to all digital cameras but some may not be aware of 'noise', so it's good to point it out. It is a steep learning curve for me who has never had the Pocket '1' . So many "scroll this way, that way, tap(single ,double, triple to take me down another rabbit hole it seems!)" and I've been too chicken until now to go 'Pro' although with my DSLR Nikons in the past I always went manual if I had the luxury of time to think about the shot. One thing is for sure, the gimbal has immediately improved the smoothness of my footage compared to my old (but superb still and tough as old boots!)Sony Handycam with its x32 zoom. Thanks for great tips. I will go through this video again several times (with the camera in my hand) and have subscribed to see more useful stuff well presented.
Thank you for the kind words, Terry! There are a lot of different settings on the back of the camera, but using your phone as a screen with the DJI Mimo app makes this significantly easier! Much more screen real estate and you dont have to remember all of the swipes and gestures. Pro mode is just like any other camera out there with manual settings. This is a great camera to use and play around with since adjusting the settings on the screen will immediately result in the picture changing. Unlike on a DSLR or other camera where you have to shoot, adjust, shoot, adjust, flip between the shots to see what changed, and repeat. Glad you found your way to my video and hope you enjoy shooting with your new camera! Thanks again for the kind words and watching (and subscribing!)
@@keith-knittel Glad to subscribe, Keith. And the first accessory I bought was the Pgytech (?) holder for iPhone and Pocket2 for the advantages you state. I won't take the rig out on hikes but the solo camera performed well on my last video, first time using it for real. I bravely used the bluetoothed microphone too which worked easier than I expected. I have a 'Lav' mic so I will experiment and try plugging it into it. Someone actually commented that he guessed I had used a gimbal for my video!
Some interesting tips, thanks. Consensus on the DJI forum is that there are serious issues with HQ mode which hopefully DJI will address with a firmware update. In particular it uses what some feel is an exessively agressive amount of noise reduction which causes a loss of detail, and there's some evidence of smearing of movement. I'd suggest users make their own tests and draw their own conclusions before deciding which is best. And keep an eye open for firmware updates, which should also fix some of the problems with face tracking, which is less capable on the new model than on the old.
I try to be as objective as possible with these videos but made sure to say that was an "opinionated" tip on that one. Some people just want to film quick social media content which probably wouldn't see any great benefits of BS vs HQ - but for some more professional users filming stock footage for example, that may make more of a difference. Keep in mind that this camera has a variable bitrate as well - so if you're filming very low contrast scenes, your bitrate is going to be lower than a bright contrasty scene with lots of colors, if you try to heavily grade low contrast footage with this camera it's not going to turn out well (I have a video coming out later that mentions this). I haven't experienced any bad smearing in HQ vs battery saver with this camera, can you elaborate on that? I'd like to test that out. Thanks for the great points and watching, Peter!
It's a great portable camera to have everywhere with you and to use with good quality results! Freewell may possibly be creating a series of anamorphic filters with built in ND ranges for the Pocket 2, just as they recently did for the Mavic Air 2.
It's nice to always have a stabilized camera with you! Love the small form factor of this camera - that would be awesome! I just learned about their anamorphic filters w/ ND after posting my last video. Thanks for watching and commenting, Alex!
If you also have a DSLR/Mirrorless I highly recommend getting a cold shoe adapter and try mounting the pocket to your main camera. It kinda looks like a shotgun mic or something and it is able to just record while you focus on the main camera. Depends on your work flow but there is a lot of potential for what you can do. If you’re main focus is photography you can get useable video as well, Or Take video on both and you get a stabilized “B cam”/ wide shot, while you have a tighter shot on the main camera. Video from the pocket looks great because of the gimbal and doesn’t have to be babysat, and you get the advantage of having the pocket attached to a bigger rig so it doesn’t move as much
Hei! DJI Pocket 2 Newbie here! our video was incredibly helpful! Concise and straight to the point, with many good tip, like focus firs, then double-tab. Thanks soooo much! Subscribed!
Hello! Does your pocket 2 heat up a lot? I bought mine today and I found it gets way too hot to hold after a while. I was shooting at 1080p 60. It gets way hotter if I connect it to my phone using the usb port. I wonder if that's common or is my pocket 2 defective? 🤔
The stabilization is awesome on the pocket 2, but the durability of action cameras is nice if the shoot requires something more durable. Either way, thanks for watching, jimmy!
Thank you you are life saver! hey ... you have awesome golden voice ! I am very disappointed with Pocket 2 ! hoping your this video can give new life of my little pocket 2 ! thanks again

I produce a lot of video tours for residential and healthcare related real estate, much of it inside. Was wondering what recommendations you might have for settings for slow, smooth virtual tour movement. Thanks again!
Hey there Steve, the pocket 2 is great for that, especially since it’s lens is a little wider. The gimbal also helps! I’d choose a slow follow mode and lock the tilt and roll axis. (Pan follow) to keep a level horizon. Walk slow and steady! Thanks for watching and subscribing!

Question: when you set your own settings in the PRO mode, do they stay that way after you power the camera off. then on again? Thanks!
Hey there fellow ohioan! I'm sure you know this by now, but the settings stay the same when turning on/off. How are you liking the pocket 2? Sorry for the late reply
I am not a camera buff but I just picked this up and wow, this is overload. Question, when reviewing my videos, can the unit produce sound? I didn't get the accessories yet. Also the unit seems to get very hot when plugged into computer or charger? I probably does more than I need. I am a realtor and I do simple you tube talking head and property walkthroughs. In many ways I was hoping this would be better than my phone but it seems much more complicated? Screen is so small. I guess I am used to using my phone and easily checking the video quality before I leave my location. Seems harder here with no sound?
Hey there Michael, the pocket 2 does record audio. You can plug your phone into the pocket 2 and use the Mimo app to see the feed of the camera in the phone and the camera settings.
Thank you for this great tutorial Keith. It was very informative and I look forward to using these tips on my next vacation. You gained a follower here, nice work!
Thanks for an awesome video. I just purchased this camera to film footage of my son playing his baseball games and generating highlights. I wanted something I can put on a tripod and let it focus on him. Did I make a good choice? Lol
The only thing I'd watch out for is being too far away. The lens is pretty wide, and to get the best quality you'll want to be pretty close. If you zoom and try to use activetrack to track your kid it could work, but the tracking will be finicky if there are tons of kids on screen at once passing in front of the camera. Could lose the tracking point. Let me know how it works out for you! Thanks for watching, Daniel!
It would be great if you talked a bit slower, I guess I can tweak the speed in the player - doh! So much useful information! I feel I need an explanation of the chart though.. perhaps if you did a couple of examples.. “if you choose ____ and you are editing in post then ____ unless you want ____ then set it to ___” anyway great video! Thanks!
Thanks man! Loved Saosin back in the day (and still do!). Checked out your stealth camping element video, the pocket 2 is small / stealthy. I'm sure you'll shoot some cool stuff with the P2! Good luck and have fun!

Great Video! Very valuable information! I was apparently not aware that High Quality mode had limitations for which FPS mode could be used. Has that changed? Which will offer better quality, Battery Saver Mode Full HD 60p, or High Quality Mode Full HD 30p? I will hopefully eventually get the Creator’s combo. I thought I will shoot Travel Vlogs (mostly) in Full HD 60p, but the issue is that it’s only apparently available in Battery Save mode. What would You suggest? Thank You. Hope You are Safe and Well.
Great review&tips ! Thanks a lot I’m going to buy this Dji pocket 2. Do i have to but smartphone clip(holder)? Or it’s ok itself? And what’s the difference between connecting by wifi and connecting directly?
You can attach it to your phone without the need for any adapters or holders, but I’d really recommend picking up a phone and pocket holder to keep the tension off of your phones port that connects the pocket. If you’d like to use the camera remotely, like for time lapses and motion lapses, you’ll have to pick up the do-it-all handle. Thanks for watching and congrats on your new camera!

Thanks for the kind words! My background is a roll of ultramarine from Savage (my favorite color!) and the tubes are quasar t12 tubes. These are powered using their included wall adapter. I'm a HUGE fan of the dark backgrounds, and to keep it as dark blue as possible, I make sure to angle my keylight (my front top right) to not spill onto the background. Also angle the quasar tubes to not spill onto the backdrop either. Grids and cinefoil help a lot! Maybe I'll do a setup tour and show this in more depth if you'd be interested in that? Thanks again for the kind words and watching
Well captured information 👌 In video at 4:00, I saw Rode Ext mic. How to connect ext mic? Can I connect my Rode NT USB Mini microphone for live cover recording? Is there any microusb or C type port available to connect external mic?
Depending on what you're going to be using these cameras for, will help you pick which on you want to get. If you film a lot of action sports, I'd check out an action camera - if you film more everyday stuff, I'd look into the Pocket 2. The obvious difference is the mechanical gimbal on the Pocket 2 and the ability to move the camera. What will you be using this camera for? Thanks for subscribing and commenting!
Just picked mine up today! Kinda wish I got the creator kit but it’s whatever. Can you provide links to how you mounted the pocket to the phone with the shotgun mic on top at 3:57? Great video production quality btw!

Hello there Ashley, you can connect to your pocket 2 remotely and transfer the footage that way. You can then import it into any editor you can use on your iPad. Thanks for watching!
Hey there Anita, congrats on your new camera! I have a video on my channel with the Mavic 2 Pro and how to get the footage off of your memory card. Thanks Keith! Say for the pocke 1 what res do you recommend for just everyday shooting in DIY vlogs. what is the AFS and AFC mods and do I need in Pro?
Hey there Dana, it really depends on what you want to do. Here is a really oversimplified answer: I love choosing my settings manually, adjusting colors at shooting in 4K, but for "setup and go" type shoots, setting the ISO to auto, shutter to 1/50th (for slight motion blur, increase the shutter if you don't want blur) and shoot in 1080p 24fps for easy editing it totally fine for some people. The beauty of this camera is that you have stabilized footage and the choice to shoot in multiple different ways. Great question and thanks for watching
@@keith-knittel Totally agree on 1080p 24fps, most ppl nowdays watch from a phone anyway. If u ask ppl to tell the different between 1080p and 4k, pretty sure most ppl would just wild guess. And this camera got a build in Gimbal, smoooooth footage. 4k takes a lot of storage and time, i will stick with 1080p, for me thats fine for RUclips videoes.

Very informative! Thank you!
You’re welcome, glad you found it helpful!
I really want to get the Pocket 2 now
It's a great little camera! Thanks for watching
Some good tips there Keith. Thanks
Thanks for the kind words and glad you enjoyed the video
Great video sir
Thank you!
Thank you for this great tutorial Keith. It was very informative and I look forward to using these tips on my next vacation. You gained a follower here, nice work!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the kind words and support! Have fun filming!
Great video lots of info. Thanks so much
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for your support
Thanks!
Super good video!
Glad you found it helpful!
Thank you for the video.
Thanks for watching!
Sir thanks a lot for this video, it really helped me a lot 🙏🏻😇
excellent review and very good tips, I let you know that you won a new subscriber 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hope you enjoyed the video - thanks for the kind words and subscribing! 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Cool Saosin shirt dude. Also thanks for all the tips super helpful want to get better at using this more.
Thanks man! Loved Saosin back in the day (and still do!). Checked out your stealth camping element video, the pocket 2 is small / stealthy. I'm sure you'll shoot some cool stuff with the P2! Good luck and have fun!
@@keith-knittel Woah thanks checking out our channel. We are very small but I want to improve my skills and a film maker. It means alot hearing some encouraging words from you thank you. I have big respect for you and all the help you give us with your videos 🙏💯
Hello, is it possible in pro mode to lock the exposure to avoid a automatic unwanted change ?
it helps lot thanks
Thanks glad to help! Thanks for watching
Great tips! Thanks!
You're welcome - hope they were useful!
The video is clear and comprehensive, and comments more and more, sooner or late will be more followers.------Michael from Ulanzi
Thanks, Michael! Appreciate the kind words, thanks for watching
@@keith-knittel Do you still remember me?
Thanks for the vidz, watched these before and having purchased the P2. Great little camera and love the slowmo
Glad you like them! The Pocket 2 is a great little camera
Great review&tips ! Thanks a lot
I’m going to buy this Dji pocket 2.
OMG, DJI Osmo Pocket 2?! Good to know it's already available :)
Yes, it is! It's a great little camera! Thanks for watching
I want to have a more visually pleasing look to my podcast on my RUclips channel. What accessories do you recommend
Wow, awesome review, thanks 😊💖🌷
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
major bummer that d-cinelike isn't available with 4k 60.. Thanks for the informative video.
I might go for the palm 2 not sure yet
I don’t have any experience with the palm 2, what are the major differences?
@@keith-knittel it's out the 20th this month
As always .. .this channel, you’re content 10/10. Thanks for the recent post.
Thanks for the kind words!! Mean a lot that you came back to watch more of my videos 👍👍
@@keith-knittel it was YOUR channel a few weeks ago that made me subscribe - episode setting up the DJI RS2 properly, & yes I really like the thorough & concise content. Don’t give up. Stay with it. The content community needs you.
I want to set the power on so the camera is facing forward. Thx
Liked your way of speech.....
We loved how you asked viewers to subscribe, so we did!
It's always weird asking people to subscribe, but sometimes I forget to sub to channels I watch but when they ask - I remember to. Glad you liked the way I asked, and thanks for your support!
@@keith-knittel Wasn't weird at all - it fit in quite well. Mind is we use your strategy with our videos? Typically less than 5% of our subscribers watch our videos so we definitely need to improve.
@@EndlessSummer Thanks for the feedback - and of course you can use this strategy in your videos! Go for it, and good luck!
Hi Keith, just got a pocket 2 , your video is great to get us going thanks. Interesting setting you have to shoot this video: its a black screen with some neon tubes ? Can you share the links for the ligthning ? And how do you get the black screen so smooth and tight ? Thanks !
Well captured information 👌
In video at 4:00, I saw Rode Ext mic. How to connect ext mic?
Can I connect my Rode NT USB Mini microphone for live cover recording?
Is there any microusb or C type port available to connect external mic?
Hey there, there is a mic jack on the side of the camera or wireless microphone. I'm not aware of any USBC port for microphones. Thanks for watching!
Thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching
useful video! I have Mac Pro so don't have USB port. How can I connect my dji pocket 2 to my laptop without using cable?
A Mac Pro should have a USB port on the case of the computer
I've watch whole VDO and subscribed!
Thank you for very useful information
I'm still cinsidering to buy Gopro9 or DJI Pocket 2 🤣
Hey there, just updated the description with the phone holder for the Pocket 2! One thing about that holder while using the mic, the Pocket 2 isn't clipped into the phone mount but it's still nice to have the mic mount mount
Great content thanks!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for your support kind words
Nice one
Great video! How do control the ISO?
You have to put the pocket 2 into “pro” mode to adjust the iso and other settings. Hope this helps and thanks for watching and commenting
Very informative

Hi, thanks for the this video.
can you make please make another video regarding battery saver mode vs high quality mod including night footage as well.
I’ll add that to the list of video! I just posted a video about the Insta360 one x2 vs pocket 2 and someone mentioned a low light test in there too. Thanks for the suggestion and watching!
@@keith-knittel Thanks to you for making such a good videos😀.
Thanks for the tutorial! I just got this camera and I’m wondering how to get the footage off the camera and onto my iPad so I can edit with iMovie or would you recommend the DJI editor?
Hello there Ashley, you can connect to your pocket 2 remotely and transfer the footage that way. You can then import it into any editor you can use on your iPad. Thanks for watching!
Just received my Pocket 2 today. Thanks for your video. How do I upload my videos? I know is has a card, but what do I do with it?
Hey there Anita, congrats on your new camera! I have a video on my channel with the Mavic 2 Pro and how to get the footage off of your memory card. Check that video out, as it's the same for the Pocket 2! But putting your memory card into your computer (you might need an SD card reader) and opening the card as a hard drive will get you access to your photos and video. Thanks for watching !
@@keith-knittel Thanks. I found an adaptor and had success. Now I just need to get out and work with the camera. Want to use it to record travel footage.
@@keith-knittel Thanks. Is there a way to save the videos as mp4 to upload to RUclips?
@@agwelch Yeah, you'll have to export them from your editing software. Or you could just upload the entire video directly to youtube if you don't want to edit them.
@@keith-knittel Thanks. I have been able to upload my first RUclips video! My channel is The Professor and Her Passport. Not much there yet, but more in the coming days. Thanks again for your help.
Liked and subscribed! Great video
Thank you, Giuseppe! Thanks for your support
@@keith-knittel thank you for the tutorials!
The recorded audio track is only one or there is a possibility to get more tracks from onboard and Bluetooth mics at once? Thx
