Now we hype for the pocket 3
💪 Let's go!
Great video Tamara, thank you. The Action 4 looks awesome, but I too am waiting eagerly for the pocket 3 before deciding.
Great review thanks for comparing those 2 cameras, seems to me though that the Pocket 2 is still the king in low light, cannot decide on which one to get!
Tamara
I asked you the question which was better to buy last week and I feel over the last 6:01 mins you have answered that now many thanks
First time on the channel, your studio footage is superb. The colors, the mood. The comparison of the cameras is amazing too!
Thank you 😊
I think OA4 + Pocket 2 is the best combo for vloggers. They compliment each other very well and can also serve as back ups.
If that pocket 3 comes out though with DJI's technology now...
Yeah, throw in a Mini 3 Pro and you’ve got an amazing all-round vlogging kit!
I have the pocket 2 and am thinking of getting the action 4 (for low light and waterproof needs). what other ways do you use both to compliment each other??
Great review. I've been shooting with both for the last week. I can say that the P2 is the clear winner in lower light. There may be a little more noise, but the footage is clearer.
Thank you very much for your review and comparison of these cameras.
You’re welcome ☺️
I love your comparisons they are very detailed and straight to the point.!! 👍Have you ever tried the DJI pocket 2 waterproof attachment? I'm not sure if that is only for underwater use.
Thank you so much for this Tamara!
Short version: P2 is brill, Tamara's LUTs are ace!
The pocket 1 (lives at the bottom of my bag basically unused) got me right out of a pinch at a wedding recently where there was just no other option. It did well but needed quite a bit of work in post on noise reduction. Then the Action 4 dropped and I got excited, on asking around on social media became apparent A4 is good but not quite there on low light.
Thanks to this review and info gathered on some groups. I've upgraded the P1 to the P2, this evening downloaded your LUTs tested the P2 on a dog walk at sunset and they are perfect! Ty! 🥰🙌
Amazing! That's awesome; the Pocket 2's still a little powerhouse. Glad the LUTs are working out for you too ☺
Always love your content! It's amazing the difference in colors between the two. I already have the Pocket 2, but now I'm looking at that Osmo 👀
Nice! The OA4 is great for vlogging. I think my Pocket 2 will now retire 🪦
Thanks for sharing about the indoor shooting capabilities. I set the Pocket 2 for indoor time lapse filming, and I'm always on the lookout for a more rugged cam that outperforms it in low light. A killer Pocket 2 feature is how it can pan during the timelapse, the result is quite compelling. If they come out with a Pocket 3, I hope they keep that unique feature!
Yeah, that's a really great feature when shooting timelapses with the Pocket 2.
Great video Tamara I've used the pocket 2 for years with all of my vlogs but now I just ordered the action 4 can't wait 🔥🔥🔥
Nice! The Action 4 is a dream to vlog with, I've really been enjoying using it. Have fun!
Do you have overheating problems? A lot of users are complaining on DJI forum.
This is moderator's comment - "Osmo Action 4 mainly focuses on sports scenarios such as skiing, diving, and cycling, where wind can assist the camera in heat dissipation when recording videos with a high resolution or frame rate, which, thereby, makes it possible to record longer videos. If you mainly use it to record your daily life or activities, we recommend you record at 1080p@30fps, as 1080p@30fps is currently the mainstream video format online, and it can also reduce your storage space and facilitate your editing afterward. Have a great day ahead."
Great video as always, thanks Tamara!
Thanks! 😊
Thank you so much for such informative and professional content! You deserve much more audience and subscribers for all the effort you put into your content.
Just discovered your channel, and I'm going to recommend you! 🙂
Thanks so much, I really appreciate it 😊
thank you for the awesome comparison!
My pleasure!
Nice comparison. We really need that pocket 3
Thanks for the great comparison!
My pleasure!
Would love to see a review of the Action 4 using external battery setup to see how long it can record without overheating if you ever get the chance.
Thanks for this! This is not so hard choice anymore. Half of the year is pretty dark in the north but Action 4 has snow and cold resistance. Could do -10C recording while Pocket 2 cannot. I have done that but battery cant have it and snow can melt on it and it can drop in the snow. The only scenario for Pocket 2 is if walking indoors?. I don't know do I wan't pocket 3 anymore no matter what sensor it has because it is too fragile. Battery replacement and durable and bigger sensor starting to feel great overall in action cam with that price. I have a feeling that A4 with adventure kit is going to be my next every day dad recording setup.
Another top-shelf production TG 👍 Since having the Action 3 I find I hardly ever use the Pocket 2 any more. I might even sell it. For me the appeal of the Pocket 2 was the ease of using the wireless mic, but as I’ve mentioned before, in a ‘show’ scenario there is so much interference that the audio - and therefore the footage - becomes unusable.
Thanks, Andrew! 😊 The Action 3 is still a solid choice, I'm glad you founds something that works well for you now.
Wow! The osmo action looks really good. Great comparison. I have the pocket 2 and the GoPro 11. They both aren’t great in low light but the pocket 2 handles artificial light (inside studio) much better. I hope they come out with the pocket 3 soon.
I use blackmagic 6ks and canon r5 and canon r50 for my channel which is mostly inside my recording studio for pro audio and guitar vids. Having a 10 bit dji pocket 3 with a 1 inch sensor would be great for studio tours and such.
Thanks for the video. Your content continues to get better and I’m glad your channel is growing. Much deserved.
Cheers, Sean Bombz
Thanks, Sean ☺️
You do one of the best reviews not taking either sides but just saying which works which doesnt work in specific scenarios and love the execution and sample of the footage...I am a Pocket 2 user but the non weather resistant and also the gimbal might break if I do something extreme was turning me towards the Action 4 more since the sensor got larger (same size as the Pocket 2) and compared to the predecessors the image quality got so much better than the 3....not to mention I realized swappable batteries is essential for prolonged shooting sessions.....
Thanks ☺️
I’m loving the Action 4. Lovely, sharp footage with that dynamic range. I tried your Action 4 LUTS this morning and boy, they look good too.
Following quite a negative experience with the Action 3, my confidence has been restored by the 4!
Amazing! That's great to know.
So Pocket 3 is coming. Retail box can be seen in DJI forums. Sharing your thoughts? It is raining snow and water now. OA4 is made for outdoors it is 0 Celsius. What I noticed OA4 colors are great with white snow, green grass and blue sky in the same picture at the same time. Recorded yesterday 2 hours 4k 50 fps continuously in tripod kids making snow mans. Was a great purchase.
Its out ❤ amazing thanks for making the video
No problem 😊
Thank you for great comparison. I can see a nice DR improvement in normal mode compared to Pocket 2. Is there any difference in flat mode on both cameras when comes to DR. D-log M vs D-Cinelike.
When it comes to colour grading I think D-Cinelike is better.
I was literally comparing the 2 yesterday from purely a spec sheet, so it is great to have a real world scenario where the 2 get compared to each other. Great video and really helpful!
Glad you found it useful!
Are you planning to buy?
I will most likely buy one.
With a 3m (9.84 ft) selfie stick I'll be able to make drone like shots, crane/jib shots, and more.
@@ABSTRACTMEDIAHIGHDEFINITION Osmo 4 or Pocket 2?
Cheers Tamara, just bought the Osmo action 4 with mics on your recommendation 🤟🏼
Nice! Hope you enjoy it!
Molto ben spiegato, grazie!!!
No problem ☺️
Really great video for me to make up my mind. I already have the pocket 2 but just cannot get on with it's form factor and gimbal no matter how much I have tried to. I'm looking at the action 4 as I like the form factor plus the other things you have mentioned, the biggest thing being it's waterproof and living in the UK I would start filming with the pocket 2 and it would start raining, end of video. I find it great for B roll content but not if doing say a travel Vlog when you would like to capture swimming/snorkelling etc. Looks like I might pull the trigger on this and sell the Pocket 2, not really worried about the GoPro 12 as I have no confidence in them and this does all that I will need as a casual user.
Glad it helped 😊
Great video. To the point. Loved it.
Thanks 😊
Thank you Tamara, you're always putting out good content!
The issue I had/have with the Pocket 2 is that it overheated often when I wanted to record long sessions.
In the Action 3 (and probably in the Action 4 as well) overheating is reduced when removing the battery and powering it through USB.
Since I don't have a Action 3 I ordered a Action 4 which currently is in logistics hell (thanks DHL Express...). I also ordered a gimbal (Hohem iSteady Pro 4).
I'm eager to test the "webcam" function via USB and regular usage of course.
Aaah, nightmare! Hope it arrives to you soon! I'm keen to try it out as a webcam and also see how it does when live streaming, so I might do a live stream next week using the OA4.
Pocket 2 overheating seems issue from unit to unit. First bought 2nd hand, 0 issues. Then sold used one and in same day bought new one for good price, new one had serious overheating issues so returned. Now thinking on getting Insta360 X3
@@techbuyer note that Insta360 cameras all of them stops recording every 30mins like DSLR cameras. It starts recording again but the are some seconds cut. If you want to record longer.
@@juhaaavalaakso455thanks for the tip. I need one for travel stuff really. I like OP2 so much that I may buy it 3rd time along with insta360. Image quality of OP2 is stunning for such a small camera + size factor for low profile recording without everyone looking at me...
The colours are very similar I find Luts I had for Pocket 2 work quite well with Action 4 dLOG
❤as always a great video!!! Your teaching style is amazing ! If you were going to try and film a short indie film ( I know the cameras aren’t made for that) which would you chose for a better cinematic look? Do you have luts for that ?
Thanks 😊 I haven't released my Creative LUTs yet as I'm still working on them. It's an interesting concept, what makes you want to use an action camera or pocket camera to shoot a short indie film?
To expose the entire scene better the DJI Action 4 sacrifices exposing for your face and skin. One isn't necessarily better than the other, but I guess you can adjust the Action 4 footage afterwards to preserve the highlights of the sky as well as bringing up the exposure of your face and skin in post via windowed adjustments.
Turn RockSteady off in low light situations on the Action4 and use GyroFlow in Post to stabilize the footage. That way, you get rid of the jitter.
damn excellent video!........very informative and professional! i was debating weither i would replace my water damaged pocket 2 or buy the new action 4 and this video just me enough information make my decision! it will be the action 4! 👍🏾
Nice! It's a great camera 😁
Subbed. Great content. Keep it up.
Thanks for subscribing 😊
Tamara thanks for the video. Why still no Pocket 3 yet? What's your opinion? I have both Osmo P and P 2. I need an upgrade version of Pocket. I don't understand DJI ....
Bravo! Great video.
Thank you!
One of these Action cam makers should make a 1" F1.8. Maybe even ASP-C, that's game, set, match.
I've got the Action 4 and used to own the Pocket 2, I think in some places the Pocket 2 looks nicer! (almost looks closer to a real camera)
Hi Tamara. Thanks for the review. Just received my OA4 this morning and I plan to do a side by side comparison with my Pocket 2 (Or even 1), OA2 and OA3 (And maybe my Mavic Air2 drone) . If I have time, I’ll publish it too on my channel, even if it’s more motorbike focus… For those who read me : Do NOT hesitate to purchase Tamara’s new LUTs. They are absolutely easy to use and efficient. I tried many others, sold by packs of 50 where you finally get lost !! I’m now editing my next movie with Tamara’s luts only. If I wan’t to bring my personal touch, I just play with the basic parameters of my editing software (Lumafusion) but Tamara Luts bring a perfect base to publish like that or to customize. The blue sky or Vegetal boosters are a great idea. I just purchased the D-Log luts for my OA4 and noticed that they perfectly match with the Log profile of my Canon XA70 camcorder … Can’t be more happy . You won’t regret your purchase !! ( Last comment : Tamara does not pay me nor offer me anything to write this !)
I really appreciate that, thank you ☺ It's nice to know that you get so much value out of the LUTs and that you have multiple uses for them. Gonna check out your channel!
@@TamaraGabrielUK not yet available on the channel, but very soon. However, every comment & critic from you will be welcome on my little movies (subtitled in English !) the channel is Parking64 (logo is a flying tiger)
Thanks for sharing 🤝
No problem 😌
Hey so Rode does software updates for the video mic me, it fixes all the random static noises (on some devices)
I got pocket 2, never thought I needed an action cam, but now I think I need one😂 Great video!
Haha! The Action 4's great
How Action 4 keeps it when used in gimbal in low light? Is Pocket 2 still better or equal? Since then you can use slower shutter speed with Action 4.
I really like your videos.Wish you to become a big youtuber
Thanks ☺
Firs time got a reply from a youtuber@@TamaraGabrielUK
😊
Awesome 🙋💐🩷💛💚❤️🩵
So would you recommend getting a pocket 2 instead of using a DSLR because I wanna go into vlogging
The things DJI has been making has me so excited for camera tech. The pocket 2 has been great and fun to use, but the action 4's footage and features are amazing. I still can't believe a tiny camera is capable of shooting in 10bit.
It is surprising, though, that the action 4 doesn't perform as well in some low light situations. I thought the bigger sensor would be beneficial 🤔 Still a great camera
100%. DJI has some amazing gear. You could literally have everything you need for vlogging and get brilliant quality from having a drone for establishing shots, action camera for rugged activities (but also now with the Action 4, vlogging) and a wireless mic to get exceptional audio. That's what I love about the DJI ecosystem.
Thanks 🎉
You're welcome 😊
These are both really good cameras and it is so hard to choose, BUT, I am going to go with the Action 4. That battery backup is a definite win for me. Don't want to run out of battery on the Pocket 2 and miss capturing a moment. What if I am out at an outdoor festival and vlogging? I'd be stuck. Thank you for this video. I subbed and Liked.
Thanks for the support ☺️ The Action 4 is a great camera.
I always use pocket 2 in d-cinelike ^^" especially at night you can see a huge difference.... so you should do low light compare in d-cine ;D
I was expectng a bit more sharpness from Action 4 after all the focusing problems with Action 3. Pocket 2 focus on closer objects is still better, imo. Can see it very well in the "Audio" section of the video, where Action 4 have better details in the background, but Pocket 2 is way better for the actual vlogging object.
There's absolutely no focus issue with the Action 4, and sharpness in this video was set to low on the Action 4, it's something that you can adjust to your taste.
Thanks!
This is very kind of you! Thanks so much ☺
@@TamaraGabrielUK You're welcome. I'm all hyped up now to make videos. :)
Hi , I love your content, I'm debating which of these is better for cropping into the image or video in your experience? I love to crop in and still have a really good looking image/video , really would appreciate your response 😎
Thanks!
I guess it depends on how far you want to crop in, but either would be “fine” in this instance.
@@TamaraGabrielUK Thanks, btw your reviews are really amazing!! Glad I kept watching because I didn't realize they had a 3rd gen pocket so that's really amazing to check out!
can this camera show weddings live on a big monitor
Another helpful video. I have the p2 and will be using to film vlogs around Asia. My worry is the battery life and the heating. Should i get a second p2 as back up or a osmo action 4 or gro pro at least then i can swap out the batteries? What's your thoughts and will that affect post editing. Thanks again
I think if you have a Pocket 2, you'd be better off getting an Action 4 so that the footage can be matched a lot easier than if you were to get a GoPro.
@@TamaraGabrielUK thanks and just ordered the action 4. Thanks again
Hi Tamara, thank you for the great comparison video! I'm currently looking into getting an action camera for recording from my bike, and am new to researching these cameras. Do you have any tips for stabilization? Or is this something I'm not really going to have to worry about with these cameras? This is a concern of mine at the moment. Was also considering attaching the camera to the top tube of the bike with a go pro boom and bar mount.
Glad it was helpful!
In terms of stabilisation, DJI Action cameras and GoPro cameras do great. The only time when the stabilisation is an issue is during low-light because the camera is forced to use slower shutter speeds to compensate for the loss in light, and stabilisastion needs higher shutter speeds to work well. But, you should have no trouble with stabilisation in general. The footage is really smooth.
@@TamaraGabrielUK Sweet! Thank you for the advice! I feel like at least for my start all of my capturing will be in daylight which brings up one more question. Do you think ND filters would be worth investing in, or are there currently none available? Or the log footage should have enough dynamic range to cover any over-exposure?
Freewell will have some. It’s worth it if you want to slow your shutter down, but just be mindful that if your shutter drops below or around 1/100 you’ll need a gimbal.
Hi Tamara. Planning to purchase the D-cinelike LUTS for my pocket 2. What do you recommend for night urban night shooting?
Hey 👋🏾 In terms of camera settings?
Can you livestream on YT with Action 4?
I love the idea of the dji mic with the action 4… but I’m still debating on whether to go with GoPro 12. All the videos I’ve watched it seems like the GoPro has noticeably better image quality… your opinion?
Overall, even for image quality, I prefer the Action 4. Image quality is subjective though so it really comes down to which footage you prefer the look of.
Hello!
Thank you for the camera comparison video ☺
02:38 Low Light. DJI Pocket 2 is set to PRO mode? Is ISO auto?
Please tell me, it is difficult to set the PRO mode of DJI Pocket 2.
Yea, Pro Mode. Min Auto ISO 100, Max Auto ISO 800 or 1600
That FOV for the action 4 is extremely captivating. However, ill wait on this pocket 3 announcement to make my final determination.
Yeah it has a really immersive fov, it’s great.
I've got both - Pocket 2 has been my faithful servant for over a year, but I'm still playing with the Action 4 to get used to it. Any tips for lowlight? Stuff looks a little "fuzzy" - should I play with the manual sharpness?
For sharpness I set mine to -2 because if needs be this can be added in post. I also have noise reduction set to -2. Low light will depend on the environment and how low the light levels are, but if you're walking around in low light conditions you'll need a gimbal or you'll have to up your shutter speed and crank up the ISO, but a high ISO won't give the best quality footage.
I'm waiting for the pocket 3
Great video. Are your d-cinelike luts also compatible with an osmo pocket 1 and mavic air 2?
There are two sets, one is for D-Cinelike footage and the other is for D-Log M footage. Though I haven't tried the the D-Cinelike LUTs on the Pocket 1 or Mavic Air 2, they should, in theory, be compatible.
@@TamaraGabrielUK Thank you. I will try it out.
@@pejeickx9562 No problem :)
the action 4 doesn't have the internal gps receiver. why ... I ask why
you are the 1st English content creator to make this comparison, I have been watching Japanese comparisons up till now. ty!
You're welcome 😊
I wonder how the action 4's low light performance would be on gimbal with the low light enhancement on, might be a decent setup for low light situations if you only have the action 4 on you.
💯
What’s the zoom capability on the Action 4. One of my favourite features is being able to zoom on the pocket 2 using the control stick
Photo is 4x and video is max 2x.
Though the pocket looked less action camera
I have both. Do you think it makes sense to keep them both? I know it sounds horrible but I am wondering whether too much gear is too much. I keep fighting demons of which one to use. Frustrating sometimes!
I’d say get rid of the one you like using the least.
Nice comparison tamara ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks!
Will be interesting to see the Osmo Pocket 3 (when will we see that? Can't be too soon!). IQ wise the Osmo Pocket 2 could be a lot better if they put the bigger sensor of the Action 4 in the Osmo Pocket 3! ;-)
Yeah, that’d be great!
Well I just got the pocket 2 creator combo. Damn.
Looks like the oa4's focus distant is longer than Pocket 2.
After nearly all of August looking at reviews for Action 4, Pocket 2 this is a great side by side comparison.
Remarkable how well the Pocket 2 still holds up three years later and in some instances, it looks better than Action 4.
Personally, I like the FOV of the Pocket 2 as the it looks more of what your eye actually sees.
Thanks for watching. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Yeah the Pocket 2 is still a little powerhouse 💪🏾
My biggest problem with pocket 2 is the small screen. hard to see whats in frame in some situations and touch screen can be difficult when adjusting.
Yeah it can be a bit fiddly.
Can anyone honestly suggest which is better for a casual user, mostly use for travel and family. Looking at the pocket 2 and action 4
If you have younger kids and you’d want to hand the camera to them, I’d go for the Action 4. Plus if you go on holiday you’ve got the “waterproofness” if you want to take it on the pool. Plus, Action 4 has removable rechargeable batteries.
I checked the DJI site end of last year and there was a pop up that stated the "Osmo Pocket is no longer in production". I had been wondering why I haven't heard anyone speaking about this.
That may have been referring to the original Osmo Pocket
Thoughts on insta360 go 3 for vlogging + coffee making top down shots?
Just working on a video about the GO 3 which I'll share next week. But in short, if you want to vlog and have a tiny camera for POV then there's nothing like it. But obviously the GO 3 won't give you the best quality stacked up against other action cameras.
@@TamaraGabrielUK that's kinda what I'm wondering. How would the go 3 fare for well lit talking head shots?
Why does the pocket 2 footage wobble from side to side when walking shots when focusing on your face
Could just be my arm swaying a bit as I hold out two cameras. I also had it in FPV gimbal mode.
Prefer Pocket's audio and low light performance
Hi Tamara, I'm starting a YT channel which would be me walking around city showcasing the nature and architecture around. Which one do you suggest Action 4 or Pocket 2 ?
Will putting action 4 on a gimbal solve it's low light issues ?
The gimbal will only serve to give you better image stabilisation in low light, but the Pocket 2 still does better in really low-light situations, like at night. Will you be filming in the daytime mostly or in the evenings?
@@TamaraGabrielUKI’m thinking of getting a first camera from dji like the pocket or osmo action and I would probably like to do both daytime and night
The GoPro 12 is what I’m looking forward to. I’ve never owned a DJI action cam.
I'm looking forward to it as well 😁
Is the wide better for dji action??
It creates a bit of distortion but it gives a good field of view when doing any action. If you're just vlogging then Standard Dewarp is the better option to use.
What cam did you use for the studio footage?
Sony A7S III with the Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM and a Freewell 1/4 mist filter.
@@TamaraGabrielUK thank u
I'm really surprised how great the Action 4 looks!
Right! So good!
It should be nice that you can get a used Pocket 2 for very cheap.
which one is better dji osmo or go pro 11?
Both are great. Depends on various factors ruclips.net/video/ySBKdw5ncJk/видео.html
I cant waitfor the release of DJI pocket 3 else I'd be buying action 4
I was walking the dog and I was literally thinking this 😮
I literally searched this earlier, read my mind
Haha, perfect timing!
5:13 be safe Tamara...
We could use a Pocket 3! Pocket 2 really only shoots 2.7K at 24fps, anything over that is not HQ.
It shoots 4K...
@@TamaraGabrielUKyes, but not in HQ mode, so you do get more pixels but the quality is basically the same if not worse.
Action 4 is way better than pocket in terms of vlogging and video quality.
