it’s cuz a lot of those schools know they are being used as a safety school because the applicant is too high in whatever so they want to keep their acceptances low and will reject a lot of those stellar candidates
mainly because your academic stats are so good they know a better school will pick you so they just reject you Edit: The reason is too keep their acceptance rate lower to look more "Prestigious".
Why would parents get mad ? I’m a parent, my daughter just moved into college yesterday. She chose Stevens over big name colleges and I’m so glad, because it’s close to home. I would’ve accepted all her choices, but I’m so glad her choice was close to home and not big name college 6 hours away.
For anyone wondering why she got rejected from the one with 44% acceptance rate, it is probably because the school knows that her stats are too high, and accepting her just so she can go to another school seems pointless.
UMD doesn’t yield protect, it’s just that EA is much better. All MoCo CAP/IB/SMCS kids use UMD as safety just fine. I know people who got in RD from Blair but are much stronger than her
This is also the same reason why you see some of these people with perfect stats getting rejected from other ivies. It’s because they already know that this person is going to apply to 30 different schools and they’re not interested in wasting their time giving an offer.
@@hokachi6401 I’m sorry but it’s a taste of reality. Getting off the waitlist is like 1 in 100 or 1 in 1000 at top schools. It’s the same as being rejected in most cases.
@bunny Harvard waitlisted over 2000 applicants last year. They accept around 100 students off the waitlist. For the class of 2025 they accepted ZERO. That’s 5% at best, and 0% at worst. Please explain how 0-5% is 30%. I’ll wait. When making my point, I was exclusively talking about T20 universities. An ordinary person doesn’t apply to an Ivy League university to begin with. Getting accepted into a top university is an incredible achievement. Being waitlisted is not. In the vast majority of cases getting waitlisted is a “soft” rejection. I’m a student at an Ivy League university and have worked with the admissions office before. Our waitlist statistics are NOT favorable.

I swear college admissions are so random like getting rejected from UCLA and getting into Princeton don’t make sense. But congrats on the #1 uni in America, UCLA just wildin fr.
It happens, for instance if one applied to UCLA for a specialty major like Film, Acting, Voice, Engineering/CS, some of the other colleges like Architecture, and even occasionally for the College of Letters and Science, which is the overarching college for most majors at the University. Additionally, UCLA is generally a moderately harder admit than UCB (Berkeley); UCLA accepted "< 1 of 9 applicants" in 2021 which ~ 11%.

As someone who is about to go through this, I appreciate you showing the genuine restions of both acceptance and rejection as it’s hard to only see successes
Agreed! I was class of 2020 and only applied to 3 schools. Rejected from one, waitlist from one, and while I was waiting for the last one which was my dream school, I would watch videos of people getting accepted and never denied and I felt so dumb and defeated. But I got in to my dream school so it all worked out🎉
THE FACT THAT YOU GOT INTO 8% ACCEPTANCE RATE COLLEGES IS LITERALLY SO AMAZING, I COULD NEVER, AND THE FACT THAT YOUR COLLEGE THAT YOU WOULD GO TO IF YOU DIDNT GET INTO OTHERS ITS A 44 ACCEPTANCE RATE IS LITERALLY INSANE
This is an absolutely horrible way to apply to universities. Acceptance rates are useless in all reality. Higher education is an investment for your future, not a place where you pick whoever accepts you. They should’ve chosen the top 5-10 universities that are THE BEST OPTION for their desired future career. Harvard is good for law but UCSD is useless for law (random example). There’s no point in applying to UCSD if it’s law programs suck. The same way you shouldn’t be applying to every single prestigious university in the country just because of the status/praise of the school. Each school, including the top universities in the country, have their specialty that they excel in. UCLA and Berkeley have their own programs that they’re good in and others that they suck in. Universities should be selected in order to best suit your chosen career, not based off of your feelings or acceptance rates. These types of decisions could end up being extremely costly in time, money, and energy.
Acceptance rates arent everything. She probably got rejected from university of maryland because that specific program was super competitive even with the 44% acceptance rate. You should go to the school thats the right fit for you depending on what you want to do in life. Picking schools based on acceptance rates is a terrible way to apply to college. Take purdue university for example. Their overall acceptance rate is around 50-60%. But then you look a little bit deeper and theyre ranked #4 in engineering (thats better than the majority of the schools in this video and all 8 ivy leagues), ranked 20 in computer science and number 1 in aviation. They also have one of the best college football teams in the us. So depending on what you do. The best schools for that can end up having higher acceptance rates.

@@badbitch898 Actually, UMD accepts >98% of their incoming class off of early action applicants. I do not want to assume when Jeanie applied, but early action decisions come out on the last Friday of January for UMD, and Jeanie got her decision in late March, when regular decision comes out. I'm in the process of college apps right now, and for everyone whos stressing over it: YOU GOT THIS! I'm literally getting nervous and happy with her throughout this process and I really just hope all of ours could go well as well
Hey I know that 4 months already passed and I hope you were able to get in! Thanks so much for that comment, I applied to NYUAD recently and I will know in a few weeks what is the final result, so I am really feeling butterflies for what could possibly happen (a mix of nerves, anxiety, excitement, a bit of fear). But whatever happens, it’ll be okey.
hey! how did it go?

Idk why I was recommended this months after it being posted but CONGRATULATIONS!!! I literally have tears in my eyes from the happiness I feel for you… Your mom and your dads reaction, knowing all the hard work you must have put in to get in, and your comment of “idk how I got in I’m so stupid” (I felt that as a Korean American so hard). You deserve every ounce of this, you rock!

My guess at the surprise ending - you decided not to go to college and joined the Army.
