    Maserati knows how to make a beautiful car. Clean, unfussy surfaces, and spot-on proportions sitting over the wheels. The interior surface finishing is a little over-cooked for my taste, but presumably there are other options. Hoping for the best for them!

      Most new EVs look great. Many are similar to their ICE sibling.
      Problem using the same ICE styling makes the mileage efficiency worse. Soo the Automakers just use a big heavy battery.
      That's a major sacrifice for aesthetics.

  • @benj5386
    @benj5386 9 месяцев назад +3

    That looks beautiful. I love the format of the batteries enabling a lower car and therefore seating. Its really important so you don't feel like you're sitting 'on' a car. So many EV cars look slightly wrong because the cabin has been stretched upwards to mask the skateboard of batteries.
    Great video Jonny. Love your presenting style.

    • @elliotsimpson1148
      @elliotsimpson1148 8 месяцев назад

      Don’t believe the marketing. They have stuffed the battery where the gearbox and drive shafts normally are. It’s a compromise of a shared platform. It’s why the range is so poor compared to ground up EVs.

    • @benj5386
      @benj5386 8 месяцев назад

      @@elliotsimpson1148 I completely understand what youre saying Elliot. The downside of not using a skateboard of batteries is probably, less range.
      But.... The happy upside of sticking batteries where gearboxes, fuel tanks and drive shafts should be is the proportions can remain the same as an ICE vehicle.
      Like I said, I find the skateboard EVs quite often look wrong as the seating position is so high.

    It sounds a bit odd that all the supposed "rivals" to the GT you mentioned are four-door saloons. Who's really cross-shopping a car this shape with any of those? What that really says, to me, is that nobody is doing what Maserati's done here (yet...) and that the GT Folgore _doesn't have_ any proper direct rivals (yet...). Given their claim to have invented the Grand Tourer, it's historically neat that they've entered this space first with an E-version.

    Nice looking. I will wonder if they will sell. Lots of premium luxury EVs are vying for a customer. I love the look of the MC 20 even more.

      I do wonder how the front will look with the numberplate actually attached. Looks great as shown but that's not how you'll be allowed to drive it sadly.

    I love it, despite being EV.
    They should think about the "entry-level" version.
    Engine only in the rear, 400/500hp, maybe one battery less, and much cheaper.

    I think what Maserati have done with the battery pack is quite clever. I've been wondering why car makers have insisted on having a big slab under the floor, which either robs legroom or forces a SUV shape. Hopefully we'll see a few more manufacturers following this strategy and giving us some low, wide, sleek looking EVs.

    • @Dqtube
      @Dqtube 9 месяцев назад

      It's possible they'll use it on other Stellantis brands, such as a future Dodge or Alfa Romeo, but it wouldn't be in the mid to low price range.

    • @GamezGuru1
      @GamezGuru1 9 месяцев назад

      It's not hard to understand - it's obviouisly way cheaper to design a pack that is effcietvely 2D, instead of 3D in it's shape, and 99% of EV buyers would prefer to sit higher anyway (in case you hadn't noticed the success of the SUV fad)

    Absolutely stunning, as an EV at present it is by far the best looking car on the market but its nearly £200 grand , i was expecting it to alot nearer £100,000 but regardless if i had the money id be down at JCT near me with my name down. JCT ware i live sell Maserati Ferrari & Lotus.

    Johnny, Thanks for reviewing a Unicorn. Now will you please film a test of BMW i4 eDrive40. I've already bought one, but for some reason, I'm pining for your approval of this car you somehow failed to test. Oh and not the M50. Just the eDrive40 on 18" wheels in max efficiency spec. Or even the eDrive35 if you're feeling cheeky. You've managed to miss one of the best, I think. Thanks mate.

    For the last 20 years, Maseratis always looked like they had 3 designers. 1 did the front, 1 did the side and 1 did the back and none of these 3 actually communicated with each other and 1 of them was only there on a YTS scheme. They always had 1 problem viewing angle. This is a safe copy of the Jaguar with a slightly janky back end.
