  • www.thesimpit.com/ presents our detailed review of the Thrustmaster TS-PC Racer Force Feedback Wheel.
    Thrustmaster is one of the first companies to ever make a wheel for sim racing on the PC. And since then they have made countless models including wheel for the Playstation, the Xbox and other consoles, pc's and even cross platform models.
    The TS- PC Racer is a purpose built for the PC racing wheel that is the strongest and most refined wheel that Thrustmaster has ever produced. In this review we test it out in a variety of different conditions to see how it performs.
    **CORRECTION - THE WHEELS GRIP IS REAL SUEDE NOT ALACANTARA**

    Shaun, it seems like all your reviews for all the wheels end up being the same. Your pros and cons list doesn't really tell us anything decisive. Could you compare the reviewing wheel to the competitors wheel and then tell us what you would prefer and why? This helps us see valid points in your opinion that we ourselves aren't able to see since we don't have the wheels right there in front of us. It would also help us see what sort of things we should be looking for when purchasing a wheel.

    • @baltod4978
      @baltod4978 7 лет назад +4

      Yea, I caught all that info for the TM side of things. I'd just like to know how it would stack up against the Fanatec side seeing has how they're pretty much competitors. If I was looking for a TM wheel, then I'd of taken away from the review that this is the best one yet. However I currently have no wheel (Well, a CSL Elite will be here tomorrow). So when you watch all of his reviews, yea you might gather that one TM is ahead of another TM, or a Fanatec V2.5 is better than a CSL Elite. But if you're looking to purchase a wheel it'd help to know which one you're buying and what you're missing out on / or what you're gaining over the other models. You might also want to know why you'd choose one over the other or at least hear someones else's opinion on why they chose one over the other, especially if they're as experienced as Shaun is. Just a little bit of extra information like that I feel would help his reviews stretch a lot farther in helping his viewers out. Especially when they don't know anything about the market like myself. I've been watching nothing but wheel reviews for the past month and yea I know the difference between a T150 and a T500RS, but not where the T500RS might fit in when it comes to the CSL Elite. Behind? Ahead? If I can afford a T500RS, where would that put me on Fanatecs line up? Those were the questions I was trying to figure out... because that's exactly what ended up happening to me. Bought a used G920 and found I could have a T500RS for an extra 200 bucks. Bought the T500RS and didn't realize how old the technology was. Didn't look at Fanatec because I thought they were way out of my league. Then found out that for 100 bucks more, I could have a brand new CSL w/ load cell pedals. So returned the T500RS and bought a CSL Elite and that's where I'm at now. Now I'm still wondering if I made the right choice at the 600-700 dollar price point.

    • @lawyer4ever

      This is not a wheel comparison, it's a review. If he compared this to all of the other wheels on the market, it would take hours. That being said, he did make it clear that this is far and away the best Thrustmaster wheel and he explained why he prefers it over the sub $400 wheels on the market, which of course includes more than just Thrustmaster wheels.

    • @baltod4978
      @baltod4978 7 лет назад +14

      I'm not asking for a comparison review with every wheel. Just at the end of his video, where this particular wheel would fall at with it's closest competitors and maybe if he had to chose between them, which one and why. This review is 26 minutes long. What I'm asking for is 2 minutes and it would help a lot of people make better and more informed choices because they can see objectively how an experienced person looks at and judges a wheel.

    • @Facarwi
      @Facarwi 7 лет назад +5

      I wholeheartedly agree. Most of us are looking at a certain price range, maybe even willing to stretch a little bit depending. Comparing wheels even just making pro's and con's totally based on personal preference would be extremely helpful and summarising its position based on its price and what else is out there. Prime example are these wheels in my country at least are pretty damn close in price to the Clubsport Wheel 2.5 - the rim. Do you recommend this wheel over that, if so why? Is the extra money the CSW cost worth it? Even looking at the CSW itself seen as the benchmark for belt driven wheels how does that compare to a DD wheel as its price depending on the wheel attachment starts to get close to a DD wheel cost...
      It would be fantastic having someone as experienced as Shaun go through and give his opinion on how the wheel stands by itself and then in the market. It does not have to be long, someone above suggested it would take too long comparing each wheel to every other wheel of course that would be insane to do and not necessary. Comparing it too the wheels above and below its price point makes the most sense, I think we all know a CSW 2.5 is better then a T300... But comparing it to say a CSL elite one run down offers a lot to potential buyers.

    I had a T300 that went away for warranty repair. While I was organising it I called Thrustmaster support and during the discussion asked out this wheel as the T300 was my second unit as the first had also developed an issue after less than 6 months. The guy told me the TS-PC is more for F1 style sims and not rally. Not sure if he was referring to the fact that it has the F1 style wheel, I don't think so, it seemed like an odd thing to say.. So David Greco just goes with the controller defaults then? :)

    I highly recommend setting "Spring" to 0%. IMO, the constant centering force that applies is awful. I also run "Damper" close to or at 0, but that's personal preference.
    Great review Shaun! Love this wheel, glad to see you cover the product :)

    • @KaziQTR
      @KaziQTR 7 лет назад +1

      Jake Feinerman Hi Jake. I just wanna let you know that is what I thought first too. And then I realized (reading documents), it's actually not a constant force. it's basically a type of signal games send to the driver and then being translated to wheel force. If it was a constant spring force for example like cheap no FFB wheels, then in any game at a stop your wheel would always center. But that's not the case. You are missing out a lot in FFB by disabling spring force. Spring is a type of force you get to feel that is crucial just like the others.

    • @sevenstrings7eve
      @sevenstrings7eve 7 лет назад +2

      Jake, damper is set by the sim so if you set it at full strength at the wheel the sim setting is then a percentage of your setting, so if it is at 0 in the sim the setting in the wheel settings is irrelevant. But for those of us who actually run a small amount of dampening in the sim because we feel it gives a more realistic force feedback in sims like iRacing it is preferable to set the wheel at full and set our small percentage in the sim. The amount varies but I actually run a small amount of dampening in most sims, to me the amount I run feels more realistic and it doesn't adversely effect my performance.

I really can't comment on iRacing as just drove it a few times with the 488 and Indycar but that was with the DFGT. ACC is still somewhat tricky for me when the rear steps out and can't bring it back even with slight wheel corrections and not violent. Great qualtiy review here Shaun :-)
    I have tested it to,and all the others. I llke that you are covering all the matters - and last and not least remembering the T500 as the other reviews are totally forgetting. TS-Racer have to be compared to the T500 servobase, as is an equal strong servobase.
    - My personal seight is that i still like the T500 better - and also find it equal strong and fast re-centering. But i have used the T500 5 years, and i may be honoring it to much :-)
    - TS-PC Racer rim is really great, and exiting with the upcoming display to mount :-)

      How is does this wheel compare to the CSL Elite by Fanatec? How about the durability of the wheel? I've seen nothing but bad reviews posted on Amazon, walmart, etc. about TM and their T300RS wheel base failing quickly.

    • @SteinarPladsen
      @SteinarPladsen 7 лет назад

      TM is realible. But the smaller T300 has had problems with getting warm and fading. This because the power-supply was placed inside the servobody. And this body itselves is quite small.
      T-500, TS-PC Racer and T-GT has it outside the body again. Mine T500 has worked perfect 5 years now.

    • @bartonez123
      @bartonez123 7 лет назад +1

      CSL elite and TS-PC are very similar, the feel is slightly different but if you hadn't used either before you would be hard pressed to notice a difference, neither is bad. Very similar reliability too, should last many many years, the T300 issues are specific to that model. If you have any pre-existing ad on rims for either, just go with that brand. If you are starting from scratch, have a look at the ad on rims available, Thrustmasters tend to be cheaper and are decent, Fanatecs are more expensive but higher quality feel. Weigh up how much you would be likely to want to spend in the future and go with that.

    If Thrustmaster AND Shaun Cole says this is the strongest wheel Thrustmaster has ever had, then I'm going with that. Just because it's using less wattage does not mean the motor cannot be stronger or more efficient than the previous one. I know someone said it's a preference, but I would never buy a wheel with paddle shifting fixed to the base. I think if you applied that to a real formula one car and asked the driver to use it, he would look at you and say, "Are you shitting me mate?"

I know these a new systems, but seeing as how I know NOTHING about wheels... I DO see that Logitecs G27 and G25 are still being sold years later and they're still asking for 250-300 dollars. Do you guys know about the quality of Fanatec or TM? I bought a used T500RS with supposedly less than "3 hours" of use, but the motor is already starting to weaken and fail. When I look at the reviews for TM on Amazon, walmart and ebay- there's been a lot of negative reviews as well.

      I had a T500 from 2011, still works well with probably a little over 3000 hours on it. Compared to my G27's, my first one (2010) had about 100 hours before the gearing was stripped, second one (replaced under warranty) got about 150 hours before same issue, third one (bought separate) about 80 before it had an issue where it could slip out of calibration with use, related to same issue.
      Additionally, this wheel is objectively stronger than the T500. TS-PC has 6nm torque, T500 has 4.4nm.

      Patryk_IT
      Depends on who you listen to. Somewhere around 30% to 50% more powerful.

    Hi shaun, ive been watching you for some time now. ive got a few tips for your presenting :D. dont worry its constructive: you have a lot of clutter in front of you with all the wheels blocking the part that makes your shirt stand out. its always a good idea to keep your promotions of your own fully visible imo. The good and the not so good section seem a little slow. viewers are not that unintelligent to understand what you mean (most of your viewers are older then 10 :D). the last thing i noticed is that your microphone sometimes touches your shirt wich is heard on the review. i would change the position of the mic making it not touch your shirt.
    hope this helps. i always enjoyed your excessive testing en finding out everything about the product.
    Lastly, greatings from the netherlands :D

    Shaun I have been a big fan since Darren's time. But don't you think your review is just telling about the wheel like a book. Just a feedback. Maybe make them a bit engaging. Sorry if this offenses you.

    before you buy the thrustmaster tspc racer I would read up on it,when I receive mine I used it probably about 2 hours, wen't to use it the next day it was dead totally would not work nothing no power no LED lights not anything,tried hooking it up on another computer,tried another power cord USB cord nothing,$460 seriously I would read up on it and see what the troubles people have had,after wrestling with this thing for about 2 days I plug my old wheel back in thrustmaster TX perfect I hope this help somebody from making the same mistake that I made.

    If you put the same size wheel on the 65 watt brushed T500 and the 40 watt brushless TS-PC wheel, set them both at default setting and 100% setting, there is no way that the 45 watt brushless is more powerful or robust.

      Of course, it may very well have more accurate force feedback, it is a newer system. My biggest complaint with these newer wheels is the paddles are mounted to the wheel and I really prefer them mounted to the base. Personal preference.

      SpatialDragon It ends up feeling like it has essentially the same strength as the T500, but with the smoothness and refinement of the TX/T300. Basically a smooth T500 with more detail apparent in the FFB

      The TS-PC outputs 6Nm of Torque, the T500 outputs 4.4Nm. TS-PC is a fair bit stronger, and more detailed too.

    The Thrustmaster wheel connector is just disgusting... I own a T300, and it gets loose very easily, forcing me to fix the screw all the way in to keep the wheel in place...

    I highly recommend setting "Spring" to 0%. IMO, the constant centering force that applies is awful. I also run "Damper" close to or at 0, but that's personal preference.
    Great review Shaun! Love this wheel, glad to see you cover the product :)
