Charlie is so smooth and effortless. From the neck up he looks like he's watching the show and enjoying it. From the neck down he's playing a very difficult drum piece. What a master!
60 Minutes once did a story about Charlie Watts years ago. The interviewer for 60 Minutes was at a horse show and told a few people that a member of the Rolling Stones was in the audience. No one guessed it was Charlie nor did they recognize him. It was that interview where I first learned about Charlie's devotion to his family all those years while the other band members were getting wasted. I also learned that he preferred to be called a jazz drummer in a rock band. He was a class act. Rest in peace, Charlie.
What country and which year did it go out, wonder can it still be seen, gotta love Charlie, I'm a lifelong Stones fan and recorded all the BBC radio tributes to him 2021 August 24th🥁🙏
Thanks Raymesquite, I binge on these Charlie u tube clips every so often, recently seen the Rock n Roll TV documentary mid nineties feat Charlie's wife Shirley R.I.P🙏
Charlie is just great in this performance. As it goes on at the end he keeps cranking it up a little more. Then he throws in the triplets. It's like Ravel's Bolero. You're torn as to whether you want it to go on forever or scream stop, please stop. Great playing. R.I.P. Charlie Watts.
@@clairewatson3868 The funny thing about that is that at the end both Ronnie and Keith are there looking at Charlie, but Charlie isn't looking at them. Charlie is looking past Ronnie and watching Chuck Leavell.
I've seen other aged bands with the original drummer up on a riser and another drummer behind doing all the work. Charlie was 80 and still anchored the best R n R band in the world for a full two and a half hour show.
I grew up with The Stones..Paint it black was one of my favorites ones....well after almost 50 years activity (since 1962) they still Rock!!!!!! about how they look, well every wrinkle on their face has a story to tell ...and a very interesting one!! I love it... :)
Charlie is a great example of a jazz drummer turned rock and roll! Playing the rudiments with ease! Jazz is the platform for any drumming style - like Latin for learning languages.
Dude that guy kept the Stones together , he was the only sober guy back in the day , if they never had his beat they wudder been fucked! I love Charlie!
Always get the chills when I see/hear them do this song, especially live. Beyond belief! By the way, when the song was first released I thought it went "I see a rainbow and I want to paint it black." Not too late to change it, Mick! :) I missed the Pittsburgh show because of a missed flight, but will try to see them in Detroit even if only for this song.
I too go to a concert each world tour - next tour I'll go to several. And so what if they've dabbled in drugs etc?! What lives they've led and what a musical legacy for us to enjoy. Simply the greatest.
On this day in 1966 {September 11th} the Rolling Stones performed "Paint It Black" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'... Four months earlier on May 14th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; and on June 11th it peaked at #1 {for 2 weeks} and spent 11 weeks on the Top 100... It also reached #1 {for 1 week} on May 26th on the U.K. Singles chart... And on June 13th it once again reached #1 {for 1 week}; this time the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart... R.I.P. Brian Jones {1942 - 1969}.
I WAS HERE! 150,000 people was amazing. Was so overwhelmed at the time I started crying when my favourite song came on Sympathy for the Devil come on I was 11 :L.
Mik Zjegger All right, but the band too. In fact, these are my favorite song and band, and each time that I hear, I enjoy it, I sing it, I scream it, etc. For me the best song of the best rock band in the world, forever and ever.
This song was on guitar hero World tour, I always enjoyed playing to this song on🎸Guitar & the drums🥁. Sad to hear about 🇬🇧😔Charlie😿♊ Watts though RIP🙍🏼♂️...

I loved Charlie's expressions. He'd look directly into the camera as if to say, "Can you believe these guys? Thank god I'm the normal one!" 😂
We love ❤️ Charlie!
What makes this drum piece difficult? Just wondering, as I'm thinking of taking up the drums at 57.
@@tamjac10 Realmente no es dificil. Animo, yo empecé con 67.
Living proof that you can be a billion years old and still be awesome.
Rest in Peace, Charlie Watts. The (music) world is a darker place today without his sly smile and mad skills.
Charlie’s music will be with me till I die,.
6xr

@Don Hanlon It was filmed on U.S. show called 60 minutes. Not sure which year. There are a few videos on RUclips of him.

He turned it into a march from hell...
Schöne Worte gefunden! 👍 🤓
And looks Ron Wood went over to play with him but it also looks like he went to watch him play.

RIP Charlie....You are greatly missed already....You took many pieces of hearts with you. We are all rolling stones for a short while on this earth.
Charlie’s drumming is magnificent
One of the very best version of that magnificent song, no sorry, THE VERY BEST ONE. God bless The Rolling Stones
Thank you charlie for everything
Rest in peace Charlie. You legend.

Uh…who have you seen do that? I call BS.
RIP, great man
without his rhythm this would not have sounded so great

'Charlie Watts" to see the vet.
😅😂😂
A lot of energy drop the Rolling Stones in everywhere. My favorite rock band and my favorite song.
Charlie is the star here with some fantastic drumming.
100% true... agree with you....

Good music is ageless, just like the Stones.
greatest and most influential frontman of ALL TIME. Created the ROCKSTAR, the FRONTMAN
No one sings their music like they did years ago. It's to be expected. But they are still an awesome part of the British Wave.
i love this song.....great performance
Now this is the Best Song Ever. Not that One Direction bullcrap!
Charlie certainly made those drums talk here. RIP Charlie Watts. 🕯
A fantastic video for an even more fantastic song. I'd give a kidney and a liver to see them play this live.
They're on tour now, as I'm sure you know!

They still rock!!
great video
Love the intro.
Charlie is so smooth it's unbelievable
Great job by one and all. Jagger really strong.
Wow. They're, like, in their 60s and still know how to rock!
Yep, and now they're in their late 70s and still going strong except, alas, for Charlie Watts.
he is the best....
Charles in CHARGE!!
Everyone loved Charlie. The Stones, as we knew them, are just never going to be the same
