I was a teenager when this song was released. I didn't appreciate it. Now I'm 71 and have experienced enough loss in my life to understand the power of the song. This is what grief feels like. No colors anymore.

The drumming on the original studio version is truly under-rated. A mix of intensity, refinement and a heavy duty build up.

@davegregory4291 My dad would be the same age as you if he was still with us, he died in a car crash when I was 18. He was absolutely Rolling Stones mad and you could not say nothing against them, not that I would have tried to be honest, At the time I did not appreciate how good they are because of my age, but now I understand what he used to say about them. I'm glad I kept all the vinyl albums he bought and I now cannot stop playing them, outstanding artists, I wish I could tell him he was right. You are spot on about the drumming of Charlie Watts, I have watched many shows and he is very underrated In my opinion. Keep enjoying their music, I certainly will.

It was bad winds 80mph 19 feet of snow City & Schools closed 3 weeks. Still today we average 10 feet from Lake Erie. We do get a break from snow cause Lake Erie frezzes over every winter. I know Paint It Black from my grandfather, born in the 1950s, whom is probably my favorite person in the world. Always having fun, always looking after the family tree. I remember listening to this nonstop as a child, and I’ve finally figured out the name of the song upon my history teacher showing us the song.
1960s...sometimes I really sit down and think about what life was like for my grandpa back then, and if he misses those days. I’ve looked through all these old journals and books he still has...
Time flies so fast. He’s growing old, just like The Rolling Stones. While they are all still rocking, seeing them up there in their 70s and 80s... it just makes me think about the future so much...and all that has changed.

Vietnam 1970 thru 1971 played Paint It Black before we went into the jungle Once In the Jungle it was just black, that's why we always played that song cuz we were going into darkness.
I was 19 years old, every time I hear Paint It Black on the radio, and at the moment I'm 71 years old I go back in time to being 19 years old. The Rolling Stones the greatest band ever and mr. Charlie Watts the greatest drummer.

I think that drug thing was just hype to make them seem badass. In realty they never did drugs in a big way because if they did they would all be dead by now. The only way Jagger is that lively and active in his 60s is that he led a life of fitness and healthy diet. The Stones drug bust was probably a publicity stunt to get headlines.
