      I think now the 4Runner has the same overly complicated engines as Jeep and Bronco. (4cylinder, turbo, hybrid stuff) If anything, they're all more alike now than ever. The 5th gen 4Runner was in a class by itself for it's simplicity. In my opinion, 6th gen just took a step down to be on the same level as Jeep and Bronco. But they're all cool in their own ways.

    Idk about the 4-cylinder hybrid. But 4-cylinder 4Runners are not new.. 30-40 years later and I still see them running around.
    If power is your concern.. are you carrying 4 people with Costco groceries.. or are you towing livestock or a large boat? If your need is the latter, get a tundra or something else.
    I can trust this a little bit more since it’s still manufactured in Japan.

    • @texaswunderkind
      @texaswunderkind 19 дней назад

      I wonder about durability not power. Yes, a turbo four can produce as much power as a V6. But it is doing it at higher RPM's, which means each cylinder is firing twice as often as those in a V6, and at higher stresses. That means head gasket replacements.

I know someone who actually was propositioned by lexus to allow them to buy back her RX bc they couldn’t fix the issues. She ended up getting an Es350 bc she knew the V6 would be problem free. I’m not the biggest fan of us moving to 4-turbo engines but I understand the reason behind it, being fuel economy and overall efficiency to meet ever stringent EPA standards but this has pushed Toyota past their hallmark virtue of reliability/dependability above all else. They weren’t ready to transition to this engine era and it’s surfacing in their products

    Like the body of the car, but the hybrid sucks.

    The body looks good. The tailgate is UGLY. I like the tail-lights though. The front end is blasé. The inside touch screen panel is TOO BIG and doesn't look good sticking over the dash. The 4 wheel drive controls are in the way. The Toyota logo on the dash is tacky. The shifter looks lame. And last but not least....horsepower means nothing without a reliable engine and turbocharged engines are anything but.
    Just my personal opinion (owner of '96 and '20 4Runner).

    Seems like Toyota upgraded the 4Runner in all the right ways.
    However, the badging and amount of badging is hideous. Stick with the naming badge and, maybe, trim badge but leave everything else in the parts bins. Especially that horrendously gawdy "Toyota" badge on the interior dash 🤮

    It's not power it's reliability, this new engine sucks with too many moving parts plus you have to purchase a subscription similar to Tesla to lock/unlock doors, remote start up and GPS updates. While other cars offer that package for free Toyota and Tesla makes you pay this package twice!
