^^ This. In fact, I don't know why they didn't call it that as that's what it's named in Japan. No brainer. That way they could still avoid calling it the forbidden (for some reason that still escapes this 70 year old, having nothing but positive memories of the family cars then my first (college) ride) "wagon" here in the states, but still what such are accrately called in Asia and Europe.
"Remember the Matrix?" Yeah, the Toyota hatch from the 00's. ..........oh wait, that Matrix? I can't be the only one whose mind went there. Love this.....finally a wagon.....even though we can't call it that
You know the funny part is the matrix car didn’t even cross my mind because I was so stuck on the movie. Welp, glad I explained it and left room for a double entendre AND a couple comments. WIN WIN!!!
Honestly feel like they should embrace the wagon/estate segment and challenge the Outback. Pricing would have to be a little less but just strip away some features.
“Danger. Mike Danger”. Great review, no fluff. Straight to the point. Wish Toyota would have an EV version. The bean counters save the HUD and sunglass holder for Lexus.
Haha thanks Bob! I’m glad you enjoyed the review. Since I’m in Cali, I wear sunglasses a LOT so that sunglasses compartment is so handy for me so my glasses won’t get banged up in the center console.
Great that they finally were restrained and ditched the Origami School of Design effects so prevalent on Toyota/Lexus models over the past many years what with all the angular lines and creases, gaping maps and such.
When Mike Danger’s head barely pops over the belt line like a 5’ tall little old lady you know that greenhouse is way too high. I intensely dislike the trend of “slot” windows instead of a nice airy greenhouse in a car.
Great video. Re headroom I tested a Crown sedan with the moonroof and found it too low for my comfort (similar to this test). Don't like my head scraping the headliner. Wondering if Mike had a chance to sit in an XLE Signia without the moonroof and whether that added some space?
Of course it is a wagon. We in the USA love wagons. Mine is a minivan. But SUVs and sport wagons and bubba wagons (Suburban type wagons) all good. My next vehicle to replace is probably my lift back Prius. So I'm hoping the lift back version of Crown will become available in the USA. I believe Japan has it already. I don't want to lose fuel economy to the square wagon style rear end. My Odyssey has that covered.
I love the car and I feel that it's a handsome looking mechine with an amazing interior. The only thing that would push me to it's competition is the fact that they don't have CVT gearboxes.
Get over the image thing, it is a wagon and there are nothing wrong with wagons! Most of what you call SUVs are wagons. Just admit you are now driving the cars that your parents drove. In fact, some of the SUVs are just minivans with a different skin. Now try getting over that.
Toyota has been blurring the lines between it and Lexus lately. You do you, but shouldn’t they be independent vehicles from two brands? It’s very early 2000s what they are doing.
Officially, government classified it as wagon. Please do not be mislead by RUclipsrs. They like to call it SUV and Lexus. It is lower ground clearance than Venza and other SUVs. They took many convenient features from Venza and gave a useless safety facial tracking sensor which will beep if you not paying attention to driving beep until you get mad and turn off the function. Also increased price 12k more than Venza as a replacement.
This is the perfect sized vehicle for me, specifically the height. I need something lower than the typical SUV, but not on the ground like an Accord or Civic. A "raised wagon" is perfect, but for some reason only luxury brands make them -- Volvo V60 Cross Country, Audi A6 Allroad, etc, etc. (I know about the Outback, but it's a bit taller than those, and there are things I don't like about Subarus.) So it's Toyota to the rescue? Not really, because they made inexplicable decisions with this car, like not offering the Hybrid Max. Do people really want to spend $43k to hear that droning engine?!
It's an eye monitoring system. The blink red when it detects that your eyes are not focused on the road. It makes an irritating sound when it blinks but that sound can be deactivated in the infotainment system
@@ymcairedellbball you can deactivate the hole system but most of the systems can be deactivated via the infotainment system. If it really frustrates you like that then you can hack the computer of the vehicle and do it that way but be warned should you get into an accident then the insurance company will definitely not pay out because those systems are there to protect you. (that's something you'll have to do alone because dealerships won't do it) Are you interested in the vehicle?
Great review. No glasses storage??? As a person who has 2 glasses and switch all the time, I guess I'll stick my glasses in my ass. Laggy infotainment system, I saw this in 2025 Camry as well. These systems are super outdated and laggy. Toyota keeeps it super simple for 50k. At this price point I expect Tesla like infotainment system....
No HUD, seating looked too cozy, and hi engine trvs to go uphill. It needs work to justify the price. There are other better options. Close but not good enough for the price.
Dealers will add $5K to the MSRP. Will sit on their lots. They’ll want Lexus money for it. Won’t happen. Dealers did this with the Crown. Backfired on them.
Man you sound just like me - where's the HUD? Why no Hybrid Max powertrain (with, apparently, no plans to do so)? Doesn't have great storage features (place to put glasses.) Maybe if/when Toyota brings the Crown Sport to North America, we'll get the Hybrid Max in a 2nd Crown.
Toyota is not paying attention to the market. This wagon is not going to win them any more market share. This should have been a more powerful engine or even a full electric vehicle to entice people into buying it.
Being a “Boomer” myself, I find the multiple tats in poor taste, and they certainly bring the narrator down to the “common man” level. 😢But, perhaps that’s the POINT? After all, why SHOULD Toyota continue to sell to the traditional (older, wealthier) buyers when they can easily appeal to the younger, upwardly mobile, HIP American buyers by using the “lowest common denominator” type of fellow to tell us all about their awesome vehicles, right? Who am I to say what’s acceptable or not? It just turns ME off in a big way, which makes buying this car/wagon unlikely. That’s just me, of course, your mileage may vary (YMMV). 😊 It certainly LOOKS pretty great, that’s for sure.
Wish Toyota would offer just a regular non complex dependable gas engine. I can't stand electric vehicles. The carbon created by the plants to make electricity is bad for the earth not to mention the battery production chemicals in the environment
Finally a US market vehicle that is not an SUV but has plenty of space for weekend projects. Plus it drive like a sedan.
Right?? Some people just need more space but not more height.
The fact the concept version was called the Crown Estate tells you what this vehicle really is. And that is not a bad thing
^^ This. In fact, I don't know why they didn't call it that as that's what it's named in Japan. No brainer. I'm glad someone else thought of it haha
Yup! 👋🏻
Toyota bring the Crown Sport (with Crown logo) stateside please! 🔥
Long live the GS!
The versions of the crown we don't get are much better looking.
More wagons called SUVs is fine by me! This definitely looks better than the sedan. I'd consider this with a better powertrain.
But will it really do 39 mpg city? Or more like 30?
Very nice HONEST appraisal.
Honestly feel like they should embrace the wagon/estate segment and challenge the Outback. Pricing would have to be a little less but just strip away some features.

Weird that Toyota USA calls it the Crown Signia SUV when Toyota Japan simply calls it the Crown Estate.
It is nice to see a wagon back on the market!
I hope somebody puts some wood paneling on the side of one.
Love it. The only prob I have is no HUD and the sunroof doesn't open.
So beautiful suv Toyota really step up they design 🤩
Great that they finally were restrained and ditched the Origami School of Design effects so prevalent on Toyota/Lexus models over the past many years what with all the angular lines and creases, gaping maps and such.

One cool wagon
It’s really good looking.
I like this reviewer. KBB keep him on. Great review!!!
Thank ya!
I wish it had more ground clearance for snow and softroading.
Great video. Re headroom I tested a Crown sedan with the moonroof and found it too low for my comfort (similar to this test). Don't like my head scraping the headliner. Wondering if Mike had a chance to sit in an XLE Signia without the moonroof and whether that added some space?
They all were Limited grades on this trip 😩 but I’m sure the Signia without the moonroof would fit much better!
So is Toyota setting up the Crown as a family of vehicles like the Corolla family of vehicles?
Of course it is a wagon. We in the USA love wagons. Mine is a minivan. But SUVs and sport wagons and bubba wagons (Suburban type wagons) all good.
My next vehicle to replace is probably my lift back Prius. So I'm hoping the lift back version of Crown will become available in the USA. I believe Japan has it already.
I don't want to lose fuel economy to the square wagon style rear end. My Odyssey has that covered.
So what if you can hear the engine ? I don't understand the issue.
I think the point is that, thanks and part at least to the transmission, under load it sounds strained.
How does the cargo space compare to the Kia EV6?
I love the car and I feel that it's a handsome looking mechine with an amazing interior. The only thing that would push me to it's competition is the fact that they don't have CVT gearboxes.
These cars do not have a diff so why the transmission tunnel?
I actually miss sport wagons. Prefer them over SUVs, so this is a car I like thinking of as being a wagon.
With the price of this I’d love to see it compared to a Volvo V 60 CC and see what comes out on top
Nice wagon

I will keep my 2021 Venza Limited! It has more features then this crown and is more luxurious......
I like it but what be mad as hell if I purchased a recent Venza since it's been discontinued.
Toyota needs to bring the Crown Sport
I really don't understand why Toyota is not putting the more powerful PHEV powertrain in more cars. Maybe its a suppy chain issue.
Does it have power folding mirrors like my Mazda? I loved the original Venza. That had more upscale features than this.
Officially, government classified it as wagon. Please do not be mislead by RUclipsrs. They like to call it SUV and Lexus. It is lower ground clearance than Venza and other SUVs. Hate panoramic moonroofs. Would like a heads up display. Is there a spare tire? Why no tinted windows?
No spare. Mistake big time.
Toyota is messing a lot of things up since they dropped the Avalon. This vehicle doesn’t fit at all. Great review Mike!!!
THANKS BK!
Toyota always messes up LOL. They constantly produce underwhelming cars that are DOA before anyone even drives them
Why cant toyota put limited trim suspension into xle trim?
compete with mazda cx-70 hyundai santa fe
And nissan Murano and Ford edge. Basically any midsized suv. And Subaru Outback
Mazda CX-50, not 70.
The CX-70 is basically a CX-90 with a third row delete and lower starting price. It's much bigger than this.
2025 Toyota Neo. I suppose you could get the "Neo Skin" wrap.
Toyota has way too many models in their line-up, which actually made it so hard for me to choose, so I just turned around and went to Honda.
Thats 100% a wagon but i understand why Toyota would call it an SUV.
Looks like a direct competitor to the Outback.
But the Subaru costs $10000 less…
make it available with a v6, would buy one now but Toyota forces me to go Honda, Acura to get what I desire.
The front looks more like a Camry SUV than a Crown SUV.
Nice station wagon.
Add a 2" lift, more sidewall on the tires and call it a TRD.
That high beltline is a no go for me. Ugh
4,300 pounds in Limited trim. For that money the Limited should come with the Hybrid Max. XLE Hybrid should be fine.
Did anyone catch the ChrisFix reference?
Why is there a hump in the middle of the 2nd row? There's no driveshaft - is it just for structural rigidity? I'm confused 😞

Just bring back wagons 🙄 im so sick of "suvs" eveything is a crossover suv. It's getting old, and it's getting boring.
What are the flashing red lights in the steering wheel as you turned?
It's an eye monitoring system. The blink red when it detects that your eyes are not focused on the road. It makes an irritating sound when it blinks but that sound can be deactivated in the infotainment system

Do you understand what quotation marks mean?
… “no”?
I’ll never unsee the matrix mouth now 😩
🤪🤪🤪
I feel like 38mpg for a hybrid in 2024 is pretty underwhelming
Can’t see why it costs as much as $44k. Missing some popular items. I might bite at $20k
This is a modernized Camry wagon; change my mind
At that price point you actually get more value out of the Mazda CX 70/90
"Wagon" is like a dirty word in the US 😂
I support Anything toyota makes, just dont be greedy like the tacoma
Let's face it: this was supposed to be the real new Venza model that had been discontinued years ago.
$50k + tax for this is not it tho lol. itll be cool to revisit it when its on the used market for around $30k in a few years.
Looks like the 1st gen Venza
It's a Camry wagon
This is definitely a wagon
Crown sedan: 75% sedan 25% crossover
Crown signia: 25% wagon 75% crossover

Hello person at the end.
That’s Almighty Lyn Woodward of course!
@@yesmikedanger Woot Woot!
No hud 50k car no way!
Low ground clearance, wagon wheels with low profile tires, toyota camry drivetrain, long roof... yep.. Wagon!
For a starting price of $45k I can see this vehicle being discontinued in a few years.
I’d say one year tops this outdated DOA product from Toyota will be gone
Dealers will add $5K to the MSRP. Will sit on their lots. They’ll want Lexus money for it. Won’t happen. Dealers did this with the Crown. Backfired on them.
Yes. Not very promising. Is it even a crossover. Step in / out access looks lower than the Venza.
Does it come with the 360-camera system and digital rearview mirror ?
The top trim model digital rearview mirror.
@@johncorman8715 So no 360 birds eye view camera ?
@@accord50nope just gonna have to drive the old fashioned way
It does at the $50K top-trim Limited version, yes.
Every SUV and Minivan is a station wagon with a 3 inch lift kit. Nerds drive wagons.

Call it anything, but the 4 cylinder is not worth +$50k for all that plastic.
Its a darn wagon
It’s a wagon type car. If you say different, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
If it looks like a wagon, drives like a wagon, has ground clearance like a wagon…guess what…it’s a wagon!!!
Too much overhang in front.
Happy that Danger reviewed this and not Lyn! She annoys and confuses me!
Wagon!
Its not a wagon, but it is a station wagon 😂. The 4runner is an SUV.
44k 😮
Taller than me... How tall are you?
It looks like a budget purosangue😅
Still no storage for glasses? Come on Toyota. Camry has this.
Right?!
It’s a wagon ok. A wagon!
So underwhelming..it's an improved Venza but still slow...
