The Crown Signia is much prettier and more luxurious than the Outback, offers better fuel economy and slightly newer technology. However, the Outback is significantly larger in passenger space and cargo volume, is faster with the turbo engine, and is considerably less expensive. You can buy a base-model Outback for about $15,000 less, and I paid $6000 less for a new top-trim Outback XT last month than the starting price of the Signia. I also recently bought a 1 year old L-Certified Lexus RX 350 for the same price as the new Signia. Toyota has made this car almost a Lexus, and has priced it accordingly. It seems that as essentially a family wagon, it needs to be priced more like a RAV4 and less like a Highlander, which is a much larger and more functional family vehicle overall. Although it looks like a great car, I doubt this will be a big seller. The Venza was never a really popular model, and this is now even more expensive than the Venza. I would not be surprised if this car gets cancelled after only a few model years. Americans prefer SUVs, and premium-priced luxury wagons are just not good sellers. The average wagon buyer is much more value-oriented. It’s unfortunate though. It’s a beautiful car.
Good review. I have had a signia limited for a few weeks and love it. It receives a lot of attention where another boring lexus would just blend into the parking lot. It has all the whistles and bangs but feels wonderfully simple. The car is not trying to realize everyone's desires, there are a lot of other cars available with 3rd row seating, opening skylights, performance power, and off-road capabilities. It is simply a reliable efficient midsized well appointed estate wagon.
The original Venza was the perfect size car. Had a spare tire under the rear floor. Had several mire inches of leg room in the back seat. If only Toyota had continued the old Venza with updated styling such as how they treat the Camry. Yes the newer Venza and the Signia are nice but an updated Venza would have been perfect.
Totally agree too. I don't like big moonroofs, they can cause interior bits to fade and/or become brittle, and they reduce headroom. The omission of the HUD is a real head scratcher though. Did the Venza have a HUD?
can you get it without the moonroof? Lowers headroom, gives up space for sunglasses, increases glass shards in a serious accident, another source of water leakage, breaks if you load up the roof, terrible if you are short on hair up top - I'm sorry who thought this was a good idea?
Too bad it’s not available in upper trims without the glass roof. I don’t like the idea of less headroom, but the glass, roof and cars, and also on a sunny day the reflection in my glasses that I wear gives a glare which makes it difficult to see
I am so glad I did not wait for the 2025 Crown Signia’s (delayed) release and purchased a 2024 Highlander Platinum instead. For essentially the same price, I am getting a vehicle with HUD, a working moonroof, a more quiet engine, and a 3rd row. Most importantly at 6’2”, headroom is not nearly enough. Also, it does not come with the current 5th generation hybrid system, the current Safety Sense 3.0, or a spare tire. Why? To pay 50K for this vehicle would only encourage Toyota to offer more “values” like this. Is there a longer 2-row SUV on the market?
I canceled my order since it has NO SPARE tire, and they weren't to perceptive on allowing me to try to remove the foam filler to even try a mini spare...
NiMH has made technological advancements as well, and has advantages when it's a small capacity battery that doesn't need high energy density. Namely, it can have more cycle life and has better temperature tolerance. In order to have good longevity Lithium requires complex cooling and heating solutions that just don't make sense for a small hybrid battery.
Why does yet another tester fail to look at key factors ? Do the single recessed, low LED headlights work well and would the recesses get plugged with snow? (Crown sedan has 4 LEDs per side at higher level). Why the heck is there no spare tire in a $45000 car? What is the warranty? What are predicted lease costs? What is the noise level in dB at cruising speeds? How is the rear quarter visibility? I have been following this new model for two years. NOT one of the RUclips reviewers has provided good answers to key questions.
There’s been an embargo. No one could answer those questions. Finance is done by the dealer. It’s more quiet than the Venza and less than the RX. More car companies are using a repair kit. I hate that idea. Db also depends on the road so that’s subjective. Hope that helps.
A panoramic roof that doesn’t open is not terribly useful. I have had glass sunroofs in our last 4 vehicles and I never really use them. I would rather not pay money for something that has has little to no value to me. I realize that the XLE comes without the panoramic roof, but it lacks other features that I would like.
The only thing I can really ding it for is having a drivetrain tunnel that makes the middle seat in the rear unpleasant - and no driveshaft. A flat floor would have made the back seat more useful. Styling is nice, performance is k, price is on the high side of fair.
I'm curious as to why Toyota decided on the previous Gen hybrid system for this and have Toyota the new one... If this one is cooking it after the Camry and this one is more expensive. Toyota baffles my mind sometimes.
Yes. I bought a 2024 Venza ltd which has the HUD & 360 overhead view. It also sits higher on the road which is good for where I live. I’m sure the Signia is great car but I am surprised that they cut back on features that the Venza had.
With the pricing of these new Toyota products, it’s hard to justify purchasing one of these vs a Lexus of the same size. I love Toyota however the prices they have been putting out is getting ridiculous
something to consider is that the lexus that you would otherwise purchase for a similar price will be barebones and not have as many options; take the base level rx for example.
I love the proportions of this vehicle, and from the moment I saw this I wanted it - it's a homerun IMHO, and I hope it sells like crazy. But I really don't understand the product planners or whoever decides what content goes in what vehicles. Isn't the Crown line of vehicles meant to represent the best of Toyota, as in the most luxurious/exclusive line of vehicles? Well then Toyota, here's my list of features I was expecting but am not seeing (it turns out that some of the equipment in my list may be available, but isn’t on the vehicle at the auto show.) 1. Hybrid Max (HM) powertrain. It's available on the other Crown, so why not this one? What a disappointment. Toyota, I hope you offer this later, perhaps in a Platinum trim that has these other "missing" features (see below.) 2. Head Up Display (HUD.) I realize the other Crown here in North America doesn't have one, but, if this is the premium nameplate for Toyota, why omit a feature that is available on the brand-new 9th generation Camry (and is on the Venza that this vehicle is replacing)? 3. Fourth generation hybrid system instead of Fifth. This is according to a Toyota spokeswoman quoted in a video by the "Driven Car Reviews with Tom Voelk" car review channel. The new Camry (and Prius and Corolla) uses the newest 5th generation system. Is this an issue of total system output? I.E. the Signia is quoted at 243 hp, but the new Camry has less. Is the 5th gen system intended for use only in smaller, lighter vehicles? 4. Parking aids. The other North American Crown has Advanced Park on the Platinum trim. What about this Signia? Please Toyota? 5. Parking sensors. I didn't see evidence of them, nor did I see them mentioned in the press release (and I don’t recall any reviewer mentioning them.) I get that this isn’t the size of a Grand Highlander, but they would still be helpful and are available in many other vehicles. Please Toyota? 6. Kick sensor for the rear hatch. This is available on many other vehicles. Maybe it's on this Crown Signia but I didn't see mention of it in the press release. Please Toyota? Update: Micah Muzio from Kelley Blue Book says there *is* a kick sensor available, just not on the car at the show. 7. Power tilt/telescopic steering wheel. That’s available on the Venza that this vehicle will be replacing. 8. 2nd row seats don’t recline (or slide forward and backwards.) 9. Single stage heated 2nd-row seats. I’ve never seen a heated seat that didn’t have at least two settings. 10. Four way lumbar. Come *on* Toyota! Did you not benchmark the Palisade and/or Telluride (for feature content, not size)? I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised, because even Lexus vehicles don’t all offer this feature! Didn’t the top-trim Venza have 4-way lumbar? I’m not sure. As I said above, I suspect some, if not all these features could come in the form of a future Platinum trim level (or included in one or more packages on the Limited trim.) But I'm guessing it's a secret. It may depend on how well it sells as-is (topping out at the Limited trim level.) What do people think? I think that the more people that ask for these features, the greater the odds Toyota brings them.
Do the outside mirrors fold? I haven't heard anyone mention it yet. Also, can I show a full moving map on the instrument cluster, or is it confined to the space between the tach and speedo?
I think that your points are valid but less choice is the way things are today. When I ordered my first new car back in 1977 I had a choice of 14 colors and 4 engines. It was nice but I can understand why the auto makers do this. I too would prefer head up display, but maybe it will be offered later. I read where production will be limited to approximately 20,000 units. Hopefully Toyota dealers will not get greedy.
Mosquitos, ticks, glad you made it to the end in one piece. Enjoyed the whole video, all the info, even had a couple of laughs. I have been doing some research on both the Venza XLE and Limited as well as the Crown Signia available trims, which one is the most for the $$. Thanks.
The Venza is a real SUV not a wagon! The Venza Limited fully load is 10,000 less than this Crown and it has all the same features plus the Venza has the moonroof that gets fogged with one button!!! Also the Venza gets 42-45 miles per gallon that 5 extra miles per gallon!! If you want the room that the Venza doesn’t give you in cargo get the RAV4 limited!!! Toyota really dropped the ball.
Turns our the hybrid is the most environmentally friendly powertrain option at this time. EVs use massive energy to produce so the carbon footprint is best with the hybrid. So...Toyota made a good choice here.
interestingly, my wife is kind of making this decision right now - the NX is better built with better materials and it's quieter on the road BUT it's significantly smaller and more expensive
@dwnshft I am on the same boat as your wife. I am trying to decide between the two: NX or this. In Canada, depends on the trim, luxury trim NXh is about the same price as the limited trim. There is no ambient light in this Signia. Which I think it is more a premium feature and you are getting a 14” screen. However, NX doesn’t have a full digital gauge cluster. Not sure which one is better.
1) Price 👎🏼 2) Shifter 👎🏼 3) Panoramic sunroof 👎🏼 😢 The all new redesigned RAV4 announced at the auto show in 2 months will be $10k-$15k less. Same power, looks better, less money, better fuel economy, spare tire, similar interior.
You'd get White?... Red not only looks better, but will look better dirty than White... White is not only boring, but also a lot of work to keep clean!
The interior is pretty nice, but I agree with @Thatguy8134. Why not just get a lexus? It’s owned by Toyota as their luxury line, is relatively the same price, and arguably looks better. Get an NX 350h rather than a Signia, even if the storage is a little bit smaller. Either way Toyotas prices are arguably more expensive than needed especially on certain cars.
Coming from a 2022 Lexus 350h I'm side-grading to this. There's just so many things that should be better on the Lexus, especially the materials used on the dash. They are both nice vehicles but the Signia edges it out in value, imho.
Not an appealing vehicle for practicalities! I better stay put with my 2022 Toyota hybrid Rav 4 Adventure as my Rav 4 is more practical, very fast, spacious, best gas mileage, very comfortable & allows me for off roading. This Signia is nothing near a Rav 4 and on top this tiny Signia is way too expensive. I can't act as a fool and allow myself to buy such a compact station wagon for such an exorbitant price. We need a vehicle that will give us everything for an affordable price. So, I'm sorry if an offending other when I say that this is nothing near my Rav 4 Hybrid Adventure. Guys, you want a powerful, robust, high fuel efficient, good for off roading, fast, capable of allowing you to bring loads or tons of stuffs, then take your hard-earned money & go for a Toyota Rav 4 Hybrid. Why the heck would Toyota want to bring such a vehicle when the Rav 4 is already out there? At times, technology just gets people crazy about wanting to buy a new product just because it's full of tech! Not all vehicles loaded with technology out there are worth your every penny. Beware, don't get into that trap. I didn't like Chinese vehicles as hearing people saying don't go for Chinese vehicles as they aren't worth & that got me very curious & this year, I bought myself the Haval H6 Hybrid. To my greatest surprise, it's a very reliable vehicle, high on fuel efficiency, very spacious interior, boot is cavernous & it's already 3 months since I bought it, I must say that I have started loving it as it's very practical, very smooth, fully loaded with new technologies but, I have still kept my Toyota Rav 4 Adventure Hybrid as it's a little bit smaller & my wife loves the Rav 4. So, I have got both the Chinese compact SUV and the Japanese compact SUV. If I compare both, I'll say that the Haval H6 is the winner as it's more sophisticated compared to the Rav 4, bigger with more cargo areas, plenty of leg rooms, no roaring sound when you press on the gas pedal compared to the Rav 4. It has everything to please you. It's now my daily driven car.
Weak review. RAV4 has 37 cubic feet of trunk space. Signia has 26. How can you say this station wagon is so practical? Slots below the Highlander? I don't know about that. They are almost the same price and they share the same hybrid engine The RAV4 has an opening sunroof. So does the CRV. So does the Highlander. So does the Camry. Bad oversight here
Weak comment. You don't understand the concept of market segmentation. Why would they build this vehicle to match a Rav4, when they already have ... a Rav4? Toyota is targeting a specific buyer here. They know what they're doing.
It's very noisy, with a lot of road noise. Very bad for a premium car. Would it be much less noisy without the sun roof? Fix this bad noise level, Toyota. The mpg is poor. This car needs a plug-in hybrid to increase mpg. Not buying.
I prefer the 2024 Venza, instead of the new Toyota Crown Smegma. The Smegma is too big to fit into my standard two-car garage. It is just too big. Parking is terrible for this Smegma. It's like driving a full sized 4-door 4-wd truck. Yes, not good for me. The name is another thing I hate. SMEGMA? Really? Why is it that Toyota no longer includes 2 key-fobs. Purchasers of new Toyotas only get a single key-fob. That's crazy! It's also very cheap of Toyota. What if you lose your key-fob? So you have to junk the new car??????????????
Special thanks to our Patreons for their support of the channel! Crown Signia or Subaru Outback?
Crown signia.
Crown Signia🎉
Outback is quicker and carries more cargo. Signia is prettier and gets better mileage but costs more too

It's insulting that they don't offer 4-way lumbar in a $50k car. Has Toyota benchmarked Hyundai at all? I'm not over the missing HUD either.
I prefer heads up display over panoramic moonroofs. This car is nice but pricey.
Agree on all points.

Ordering an XLE in white over beige. The made in Japan VIN seals the deal for me.

Where would you put the spare tire? Waste all that space in the back for a tire, doesn't that defeat the purpose of having all that storage room?
21 inch wheels is a miss in my opinion. It hurts the ride and boy are they going to be expensive. Stop the madness on the big rims!!
What is the shortage for 21 inch wheels, just curious.
The Signia ...the side view reminds me of a CX 50...The front facia ..I like the look
Crown uses Nickel Metal batteries while the outgoing Venza uses Lithium which is strange that the new car uses the old battery tech.
NiMH has made technological advancements as well, and has advantages when it's a small capacity battery that doesn't need high energy density. Namely, it can have more cycle life and has better temperature tolerance. Even Highlander hybrid XLE AWD is $2k more expensive than Crown Signia XLE😢
Insurance tho…
You need to be honest. Half the features you spent time demonstrating are NOT available on the only other trim.
I prefer this crown over the sedan

@@bamtodayyup I don't see how the NX is better than this other than the logo on the steering wheel. Plus I actually like wagons
Because the Lexus RX hybrid starts $12k higher than the top of the line signia with way less tech at that price
No spare tire.😂😂😂😂
that was not a mosquito and that was not a tick
Needs the 2.4 Turbo with 6 speed
meh - i guess it would be nice to have the option
does this Car really deserve the name Crown?
Bring the crown sport toyota this is what american really wants!
So disappointed, Crown used to be a top line of Toyota, but it is not anymore.
Are you scared of a little bug?....come on man.
@@brucefredrickson9677 yes. Dude they have 6 legs…SIX! TGATS ALMOST 7 🤯🤢
need moar shots of your hand in the video. sheesh!
Not buying.
Is every channel on RUclips going to review this car? 🙄
yeah it's the embargo lift day
I hope so.
Pretty much.
So you have to junk the new car??????????????
mine fits more easily than most in the garage and came with two key fobs and a smartphone programmable key as well.
