The instrument cluster shows a fuel range of 562 miles on a full tank. That is impressive. Price is a little high but I think Toyota knows majority of buyers will be older who will still purchase regardless. The best thing about the Crown is they are built in Japan.

One item you missed, if you have a handfull to go in the trunk, you can wave your leg near the right rear corner and the liftgate will open after you here a beep. I just received mine as soon as it arrived, the Limited is very Limited, most dealers around the San Francisco area have plenty of the XLE but not the Liimited. When I saw the local Toyota dealership had one in transit from Japan, I put a deposit on it, I arrived and it is great. The Navigation system has been improved in that my previous 2023 Crown took a few minutes for the voice system to boot up, so you couldn't put your destination into it until it booted up. This Crown Signia so far boots up right away.

We did not like it. My wife was ready to get Limited and myself XLE. We both test drove XLE. The car ride is boring, sorry. With a little exaggeration, it reminds me driving a bus or boat. Engine was little too loud when accelerating. Built quality is very nice, plenty of room in front and rear seats, seats very comfortable with perfect driving height. I would prefer car to be ~10 inches shorter and ~10K$ cheaper. It can be done - just replace leather with plastic and remove some luxury features - then call it "base" (and maybe call it Camry Wagon? - to avoid damage to Crown line prestige). Right after this test drive I test drove Kia Sportage Hybrid LX FWD (I don't like AWD, I hate moon roof, I prefer cloth seats). What a difference. Kia was sharp, quiet, tight cornering, almost zippy. I loved it. I am getting it in few months. For ~30K$ you get hybrid with 42mpg on regular gas - unbelievable. So wifey can get her dreamed RX hybrid (Iridium with Macadamia white real leather seats) - it is another "bus" ride in my opinion, but she loves these colors.

I find this car to be very desirable. I think it makes sense - Toyota drivers are often wealthy boomers, wealthy but don't identify with the flashy Lexus label but wouldn't mind (and can afford) something nicer than their beloved Camry or Prius. And, GM had a lot of success with Oldsmobile and Buick, similarly 'not a Cadillac' for many decades in a different era - Toyota may be figuring out that same subtle market segment this time around.

So the ‘25 Crown has up to the Platinum trim which comes with the 340hp Hybrid MAX 2.4 liter. For the Signia, the top trim is a Limited and you get a 2.5 liter rated at 240hp? What’s the MSRP for this (it’s not listed on Toyota’s website yet)?
The aforementioned Crown’s MSRP is around 57k, so I would think the Signia is going to be mid/low 60’s MSRP which, IMO is high, given what you get vs the competition…

Joe I like your consistency about hating black trim on cars. BUT here's a moment to learn a bit about car design, and this Crown Signia is the perfect example: black trim around the wheels, and on the bottom of the doors, gives the impression of ground clearance (and suspension travel). In "some" cases, like on this Crown Signia, it's actually intentional and visually beneficial. And in the case of on a Subaru, for example, the black trim of course has functional benefits of durability, but that's a different thing. I'm just talking visual proportion.
And while yes, matte black plastic often is a cheap-car thing that saves costs and looks crappy, in certain specific cases like this one, it's likely the designer's choice. Squint. Look what the black does - on a car like this Crown Signia, which is fighting hard to be called a "crossover" and not a "station wagon", it's a visual trick. And why they, in this case, uses nicely-finished gloss black and not cheap matte plastic - to give you the black proportion of big wheel wells and extra ground clearance, while still feeling finished and expensive.
An early, similar example is whitewall tires. Look at a car with whitewalls. Squint. It does the exact same thing, visually, as modern-day low profile tires. Great work as always and black wheel trim is still definitely a ZONK on most cars! :-)

Had 7 Subarus including 4 Outbacks, one Crosstrek(least favorite), one Forester, and my original one the 1993 Impreza front wheel drive which I used studded snow tires on and it was great. I am considering this Crown Signia due to size, wagonlike bearing, awd, hybrid, and the fact that the closest Subaru dealer is 2 plus hours in every direction, but there is a Toyota dealer within 50 miles. I am like the grandparents from Calgary... but it is a little too rich for my blood and not sure about tires. I run all terrrain tires on my 2020 Outback with 75,000 miles. Bring on the Outback hybrid soon Subaru or I will have to seek alternatives as we are a one vehicle family living in the middle of nowhere and do not want to break down. Original cars in the 80's were Hondas but their CRV did not have a good enough AWD system and slipped in snow and got stuck in mud that the Subaru would have had no trouble with. Also had Civics and a Honda Wagon using studded snow tires in Vermont but now in altitude of New Mexico. A little concerned about ground clearance as well. We do not always plow or shovel our road in every snowstorm and it can have quite a bit of snow that we plow our Outback through just barely...

I think this Crown has a great stance. Love the tire/wheel combo. Great looking profile from all angles - except when I get to the front end. Maybe I could adjust, but I'm not sure. It's the grill. Just not diggin the molded look.
I like the rear black panel. It makes it look, for lack of a better word, "cooler" and less 'suburbanite mom'. But maybe for the weekend when the hubby's driving it, maybe they could have gone with black satin - at least on the lower area where it bends around. That's going to be an area of a lot of dust, mud, road spray, whatnot.
Hahaha, the "my dad always told me..."!! Nicely done, Joe. 🤣👏

Hey Joe, there's only one powertrain option for the Crown Signia correct?

  • @trevorsutherland5263
    @trevorsutherland5263 6 месяцев назад +2

Wow, I did not like the Crown sedan at all. However this looks more like a wagon and I much prefer that shape to an SUV. I also am very happy the Prius powertrain is used here as that is guaranteed to be good for 300K miles; the new hybrid powertrain in the Tundra is having some major reliability problems. If Toyota made a TRD version of this with the hybrid MAX spec and that would be a poor man's RS6 if ever there were one.

Thx for the detailed review, Joe! You rock! I like how Toyota designed this CUV. It looks nice, especially with those 21 inch wheels. The trunk looks big enough where I can put 4 golf bags when me and my boys get a hall pass from our wives to play golf! 😁 I’m ok with the black bumper in the back. It slims the rear a little bit. Not sure about the ECVT tho. I’m not a big fan of CVT transmissions. But I do like the 39/37 mpg numbers, especially with the gas prices in SD. Did you grab lunch at Jamul casino, BTW? 😁 This car is on my Top 5. We are looking to get a new ride before end of year. Thx again. 🤙🏽

I always enjoy your videos, thank you! I think the Crown Signia is a very handsome CUV-wagon. I would love it more if it had fog lights and more ground clearance like an Outback. Having said this, I love wagons! Volvo XC-90 has a lot of ground clearance I think 🤔 and looks good to me.

    • @smashtankful

It does not need fog lights due to the headlight positioning. The higher lights are daytime running lights, the actual lights are lower.

Prefer that Toyota kept the Venza & get rid of the Corolla Cross for US domestic market...Corolla Cross is underpowered (should prob get the 2.5L engine of the RAV4 once its current generation is replaced in the next year or so) and is fine for overseas markets, but not for the US.

Isn't the reason the rear wipers are almost always at the bottom of the rear window to maximize visibility from cleaning / wiping where it's most needed? Which is at the bottom of the rear window, not at the top. Putting the wiper at the top will result in a circular wipe pattern at the bottom, losing visibility at the bottom corners. What if there's a child behind the car when you're backing up, and not looking at the monitor from the rear camera? Isn't it a matter of safety over style? Please stop zonking the bottom mounted rear wiper.

This is a fine looking SUV. My wife has been driving Toyota and Lexus vehicles for years. The problem she has with the new models of most vehicles are the high window sills - can't reach out and down to use the bank and food drive-throughs, mail box, etc. These look pretty high. I know you can't address every unique issue in your reviews, but I'm just saying . . .
