    Hi AMD, thank you for the wide-open honest review of the Crown and differences between the models drivetrain. I was so struck by the 0W-8 oil cost that I had to see how much the oil cost cut into savings in fuel. At nationwide average $3.87/gallon, the XLE or Limited would use 39.3 gallons less between 5000 mile oil changes or $152 less in fuel. The oil (0W-8) costing about $15/quart more (assuming 5 qts/change) is about $75 more expensive than very good Mobil1 0W-20 EP (that I use in wife’s minivan). So half of the fuel savings in XLE or Limited is lost to the oil cost!
    Thank you again for the excellent reviews!!

    The WORST thing right off the bat is the 21 inch rims. I have a 2013 Venza with 20s and the ride is rough! I can feel every bump, and when I do, it's harsh. My old Highlander with 16s and even my 2002 Tacoma with 16s may have had a "floaty" ride, but they were comfortable to ride on any street.

    • @richscott2483
      @richscott2483 Год назад +1

      The Crown is a Clown, better off with a Lexus. When your tires have less side wall, you do notice the difference in comfort and handling. Bigger isn't always better. Newer isn't necessarily better as there was a time when the old stuff was made with quality, and craftsmanship, to last. Today it's a consumable market of buys and throwaways as repairs and DIY is the pastime. Everywhere is a landfill or place of hazardous waste/materials. The ocean is the largest dumping ground, it killing whales and more. I have a Camry, did not like the Avalon and why would I like the Crown. Enjoy life, and get a vehicle that suits you well that won't break the bank. If you happen to buy a new vehicle and plan on keeping it for 5 to 6 plus years then get the 10-year VSA - warranty. You can call any dealership in the USA to get a Warranty Quote. Most times your place of purchase dealer/financial manager will quote you a price of more than $2,000 for a 10-year/125,000-mile $0 deductible warranty. Do not pay more than $2k for 10 yr/125K miles, so I recommend calling and shopping around for the best price. If you Do Not Intend to keep the vehicle beyond 5 or 6 years ...Do Not Buy A Warranty as the Manufacturer's Warranty for the most part will cover it. Manufacturer Warranties are most times better than any 3rd Party Warranty. Now if you live a few hundred miles away from the nearest authorized (for example Toyota) then maybe consider a 3rd Party Warranty.

    The direct injectors being on top of the valve cover do indeed create a hassle when it comes to removing the valve cover. I had to repair a leak from the valve cover on the B48 engine from BMW, and it required a lot of extra work, involving the injector seals and fuel rails, etc.

    • @ItalianMetalHED
      @ItalianMetalHED Год назад +2

      the average car could easily hit 200k miles before needing new injectors. I keep hearing bmw needing injectors fairly early in life (especially specific 2000s models). I would imagine toyota designed this knowing their quality will keep them from failing etc.

      More unnecessary complication of parts and systems. Keep it simple stupid!
      That is why people buy Toyota vehicles. But not for much longer. Besides with up to two years wait for most Toyota products, who cares what they do? I know 5 friends who dumped their order and bought something else. Mazda or Subaru for instance. Honda is doing the same thing it seems. Going down the 'wrong road'.

    At an MSRP of $52,350 for the Crown Platinum, why not just get a Lexus ES350 Ultra Luxury Edition for $52,080? Since the top-of-the-line Lexus costs essentially the same (actually a bit less), I don't understand why anyone would ever consider buying the Crown Platinum. The Lexus U.L.E. has a lot standard that you can't even get as an option for the Crown (e.g., power trunk, HUD, moonroof). And when you compare the base-level Crown XLE with the Avalon XLE that it is supposedly replacing, the Avalon wins hands-down, on many levels, from the engine to the many small idiosyncrasies of the Crown. They say the Avalon was a car for "old people." I'm 66, so I guess I qualify. At any rate, I'm glad I bought my Avalon last year before it was discontinued.

    Dear AMD, sir: we have a 2013 Prius with 325,000 miles on it and has always gotten better than the 48 mpg advertised. We recently purchased a 2013 Lexus ES 300 H with 88,000 miles on it but it is only getting around 31 miles per gallon as opposed to the 40 that it is supposed to get. What could be wrong sir? Help help help!!!
    Respectfully, Alan

    Being an owner of a late model Avalon, my question is why? The Avalon is a well built car and very comfortable and dependable. The Avalon name plate is well known in the US. IMO Toyota should have redesigned the Avalon and kept the V6.

    Love watching your videos very honest and informative.. I just purchased a 2025 Toyota Crown Platinum after owning 2 previous Avalon Touring Editions, really enjoyed the Avalons. I was looking for something that might handle the Chicago Winters just a little bit better then the Avalon and I'm not an SUV kind of a person. I opted for the turbo 2.4 engine because I wanted a little get up and go and it does exactly that.. Looked under the hood and there is a sticker that does call for 0w20 oil, the online owners manual does state 0w8 for the 2.4 engine and 2.5 engine calls for 0w16 oil. It also states that you could use 0w16 in the 2.4 engine but the next oil change says to go back to the 0w8 oil, it's almost like Toyota changed it's mind for some reason. You hit the nail on the head it's really confusing who Toyota marketed this car exactly for they're all over the place with some of the decisions that they made here. To me it's more like a sedan and definitely not a cross between a sedan and SUV which to me would be more like a Subaru Outback or Forester in my Opinion. I also considered the Lexus es350 luxury edition, same price as the Crown but more upscale and that great 3.5 v6 but again it came down to Winter driving for me. I like the car so far and hope I made the right decision but time will tell the most important thing in the end is reliability.

    I test drove a Crown, the window price was $58,000, I did not care for the compact small size and only come with 4 wheel drive made in Japan. So I bought a full size Lexus 300H ultra for $52,000 made in America. It give a lot better gas mileage and a lot better ride.
    The Crown will not last long. Toyota did it wrong bringing it to us, they should have brought us the Century instead.

    The crease is probably to aid stability. The panels are very flimsy. I had a dent in the door within a week. All I did was lean on it (hands were full) to make sure the door was shut. The whole panel pushed in and a small part by the handle did not push back out. Since then, a branch landed on the hood - two dents. And my lawnmower deck was leaning against the garage and lost it's balance. Two more dents on the passenger door. That was interesting because a day or two later a lady wasn't paying attention. I parked next to her and she opened her door and it slammed into the passenger side. I didn't even raise an eyebrow. I may have gotten upset if I hadn't already bashed that door.

    They took a look from Peugeot 408/Citroen C5X book (not sure if you get them in the US), those also are not really decided what they are, SUV or liftback/sedans and also can be divisive in appearance. They are marketed more towards SUV byuers though.

    This powertrain delivery system is what Mercedes use in some of their cars.
    I was unsure about the system dynamics, but, it is always in the more gas guzzling, not quite so money concerned corner of their product segments.
    And they are very fast cars with incredibly good, seamless power delivery.
    Now, I don't know If the coupling is the same, but the premise, from memory, is the same.
    Old Toyota copying Mercedes...

  • @EfficientRVer

    With their having lowered the roof/headroom in 2023 Prius and Prius Prime, they should have made this a hatchback rather than sedan to again have an efficient hatchback/liftback with decent headroom and cargo space. With 2023+ Prius no longer being as suitable for semi-SUV or cargo-hauling as 2004-2022 Prius, folks who like the versatility of Prius as a super-efficient, super-stealthy car-camping SUV substitute, they need an alternative for us.
    FYI, I managed to carry a new 400 pound US General 56 inch roller cabinet (with wheels removed) home from Harbor Freight in a 2005 Prius with the hatch closed. Try doing that in any sedan.
    For many, the answer is a boxy RAV4 hybrid or RAV4 Prime, but I'd prefer not to be forced to give up going on road trips getting 57mpg at 65mph while still keeping both front seats totally stock and having a 75x25 inch bed behind the passenger seat, with 50 liter fridge/freezer under my pillow. Personally, I'd probably go all the way to getting a Sienna and accepting 36mpg in exchange for a lot of space. But more likely, I'll just try to make my 2017 Prius Prime last forever. It just passed 111,111 miles this week and it's never had to go back to the dealer yet. 0W20 oil is easy to find for $4 or $5/qt. $20/qt oil is crazy, just another reason to go EV sooner rather than later.
    My Prime's worst failure so far is the Auto/Manual high beam dimmer getting stuck in Auto mode. That actually was a worse failure than you'd think. When driving for a few hours at night on a very challenging road to Elko, Nevada, I often had to manually hold the high beam on because Auto mode is too conservative about dimming the high beams when in doubt. It started some very annoying but not severe hand pain which I still get more often than I'd like, over 2 years later. My fault for not fixing it before that trip, Toyota's fault for using a switch which failed despite very little use and zero abuse. I guess it was an unlucky coin flip that it failed into the only mode which can cause a medical injury.

    • @sharonthehuman5954
      @sharonthehuman5954 Год назад

      The Rav4 isn't that boxy (wish it were more boxy) as it suffers from the design flaw that a lot of newer crossovers/SUVs (thought not as bad as some) do where they do a curve down in the cargo area thus limiting somewhat your use of the space. Depending on where you like your seat positioned you do need to be careful about getting into the driver's seat so as not to bump your head (which I've also heard is a problem with the corolla cross but perhaps worse). However you can fit a 30" tall and 17.75" wide set of drawers (like the ikea or container store metal ones) in the cargo area pushed in right up to the point where the roof height becomes shorter which fits in nicely next to a 25" wide bed setup. The drawers will still fit with the driver side of the rear seat back still folded up.
