I love that you give fair reviews. I don't trust or follow any RUclips channels where the host is always softballing it. If everything's always "perfect" then the review has no value and feels contrived. You give us the good and the bad. If you didn't, I wouldn't follow. Thank you.
I had the breakfast buffet at The Wave on my last trip and it was probably the best (and cheapest) buffet I've had in Disney

I love going to The Wave. I don't think of the decor as bland or boring. I prefer to think of it as calm and relaxing on the eyes. I adore the bacon & egg appetizer with grits.
That sous vide egg is so amazingly creamy!

Can't beat this place in my eyes. When *I* think Disneyworld, I think of all the parks, the monorail, and the Contemporary Resort
I will say tho, going last year the Chef Mickey's breakfast was AMAZING. I dunno if it's common at all the buffets but the pancakes were to die for, literally went back for a stack of 5 for myself.
The rest of the food tho I will agree, nothing spectacular except for I think one danish they had? And yeah the characters did take a bit to get to our table but they have 3 huge sections of tables to get through so I don't really blame them on that. We got lucky enough to meet them as we were being seated, so we did our pics before food time!
All that being said tho, we aren't going to be doing that breakfast anymore I think. My family and I don't care for character greets, at least not ones that can't talk back (they were my childhood fear growing up, actually!). It's great to meet Mickey, it does feel pretty special, but once is enough in our eyes. Youngest in the family is old enough to not care anymore, so we'll be passing.
You forgot to mention that Outer Rim is a great spot to get food late when other stuff is closed!

My mom & dad took me and my brother to Contemporary when we were kids (ca. 1975) and it has remained one of my fave resorts, and it has held up remarkably well. It's a fantastic, fun, and unique place.

Yess! Was so waiting for this! Going to be staying at Bay Lake Tower for the very first time this January with a very picky eater-love this!
California Grill is a great place to watch the fireworks from but it gets crowded really fast so make sure you go out and get your spot early.
I have never stayed there, but we go there on almost every trip! Contempo Cafe is delicious!!!

Ate at The Wave in July of this year, and our service was AMAZING (shout out to you, Jodi!), and everything was hot, constantly replacing everything with fresh stuff, and the food was very great. Definitely would go back, for sure!!

Great vid. Just a reminder at the California Grill they like people to dress business casual rather than just shorts and t-shirts. We went once straight from the MK park without dressing up and even though we had reservations we had to wait about 45 minutes and they seemed to not like the way we were dressed. Just a heads up.

On August 2, 2018 when I went there was a small sign that was placed on the check-in desk that mentioned something about not wearing shorts to the restaurant. But my husband was wearing shorts and there was another gentleman wearing shorts at another table. So we were not turned away because of our attire. It didn’t fell like a strict dress code.
I'm so happy you talked about the inconsistency of California Grill. We went during our July 2018 trip and the service was a complete disaster (the food was excellent, though, I can't fault them there). We felt utterly abandoned from the minute we checked in and our server made a mistake on our bill. It was just chaos all around and the worst dinner of our entire trip by far (despite the awesomeness going on with the food). Our cocktails were also barely drinkable, clearly the bartender was having an off night too and didn't measure anything properly and we're the kind of couple who'll drink literally anything. We always tip 20% no matter what so we did that as we didn't want to be rude but we really wanted to get out as soon as possible. We also hated the Contemporary as a hotel, which didn't help. I know I'll need to go back though if only for The Wave and the Contempo Cafe. Even though I really dislike the location, I love good food too much.

AJ, thanks for all the DFB videos and reviews, but I am totally surprised at your review of Chef Mickey's. Our family has been to Chef Mickey's about 10 times over the last 20 years and it is our favorite Character breakfast! We started going to Chef Mickey's when it was a stand alone restaurant at the former Downtown Disney location. We have never waited for a character to come visit our table. In fact, we have a collection of my youngest son taking photos with his favorite Character Goofy. I believe it was the number one requested dinning location in all of WDW for several years in a row, as we often had a hard time getting a reservation. Finally, the Cinnamon coated french toast is the best in all of WDW and is worth the trip, even if you did have to wait for the characters!
We have Yet to eat at Chef Mickeys since we kept Losing our Ressie for there in Sept 2017. On the Top of our List for 2019. We LOVE California Grill!!!
Bridget Clement Chef Mickey's is a waste of money! Your servers are trying to push you thru quickly for 18% gratuity(I think)? They bring you drinks....That is all.
My favorites are the Wave's breakfast buffet. Amazing value if you love breakfast! Contempo Cafe has a confetti cake that I absolutely love. Top of the World lounge's 9 layer cake has become a tradition while we camp out for July 4th and NYE fireworks.
I went to Disney this past May and me and my family went to chef mickeys for the first time! We actually loved it and would definitely go back again!

Highly recommend California Grill Lounge during fireworks. We had a great view even when seated at the bar and not next to a window! They also play the fireworks music through speakers in the restaurant so you still get the full experience! Drinks were great, our bartender was very smart and hilarious, and we had the BEST sushi. I would definitely go there again!
We struggled to get a reservation in California Grill around the fireworks time. The only time we could get was at 6pm which was a bit early but we took it. We ate then headed downstairs and sat at the bar at the Wave and had some amazing cocktails. We came back with our receipt and had a nice glass of wine on the terrace and watched the fireworks. An amazing night.
The brunch at California grill was so so so good!
We have a 7:45 reservation at California Grill in October. Can’t wait!
I agree that the Contemporary is a good food resort.
I have never had a bad experience dining at Chef Mickey. It is a must do on every one of my trips, at least one breakfast and dinner. I've never had bad service and I think the food, especially for dinner, is great. And the character interaction is incredible, they do a great job getting through such a large restaurant. If it's anything short of that, it's simply just a timing thing. I've done a ton of character meals and this one is still on the top of my list.
Great job, AJ, thanx! The Wave for breakfast, and Contempo Cafe are on my "must try" list for next time I go. For many years, Chef Mickey's was a "must do" for me, and then I had some VERY disappointing meals, and service experiences (things messy, not being refilled, food not hot, etc.), and rushed character experiences, that it no longer is. I also have to say that while good, most of my meals at California Grille have not been worth anywhere NEAR what they charge. You're paying for he view, so I don't go there, unless someone else requests it.

So the sweet potato pancakes went from Boatwright's Dining Hall (when it served breakfast) at POR, to The Wave. The pancakes were outstanding, so good to know. Great videos.

Top of the World is a throwback to the old showroom at the Contemporary. It used to be where California Grille is today.

Contempo Cafe is one of my favorite quick service restaurants. If I'm at MK I don't do quick service in the park I'll go there or Captain Cooks. At Contempo my favorite thing is the Chicago Beef. I'm from Chicago originally, it's not 100% accurate but it's really close and amazing. I get it with the house made chips cuz I hate "Disney fries". The Mac and cheese changes but it's always amazing as is the steak which they keep changing the cut

The wave lounge has very good mussels
If you don't have a reservation at California Grill, sit and eat at the bar. Same menu and better service. Get there early, it fills up fast.
Can you go to Pop Century soon! I’ll be visiting there later this month and I’d love to hear your opinion on all of the choices there are over there!

Sean Hakami That is the best resort for food in my opinion. Even the food at the lounge in the Jambo house is extremely yummy and I would recommend the Magical Star Cocktail. Boma has a great breakfast and dinner buffet, I met friends this morning there for breakfast and it was amazing. :-)

A.J.: We're annual pass and DVC (BLT). We live in Maryland and get down to WDW 2-3 times a year. Our flights and ground transportation usually get us to BLT around 2; too late for lunch and too early for dinner, so we head for the Wave Lounge.

I'm the only one in my family with any desire to stay at the Contemporary. When I eventually bring my kids to WDW I want to stay there with them. I think they'd get a big kick out of having a monorail station right there in the lobby, and seeing how good the food looks, I'm even more set on staying there.

California Grill will probably be one of my top favorite places on property to eat at for fireworks. I will advise though that they do want you to dress nicely (resort casual attire, unless that has changed). So no tank tops, shredded clothing, or short shorts. To be honest I'd rather dress up just to make it worth the experience.
Also, the restaurant may not guarantee you a fireworks view if you request one. I've been on either side of the observation decks and the views are still amazing.
Definitely try the Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli...best thing on the menu! It's an appetizer that has been around for some time.
contemporary cafe is great, but it's not always easy to find a table. I was last there w my family of nine and we just happened to get pretty lucky we could sit all together.

So I went to California Grill on August 2, 2018 for a late dinner and to see the fireworks. So we arrived around 7:20pm and the wait for a fireworks table was about an hour. So we sat in the small room that you can’t see the fireworks but instead overlooked the lagoon which was beautiful. Our server was excellent. So attentive to us. He made sure we were all done with the bill right at 9pm when the observation deck opened. It was a stunning view of the fireworks from the deck. We could also hear the music from Happily Ever After on speakers from the deck. I highly recommend watching the fireworks for Magic Kingdom from the California Grill Observation deck as well as a small view of Epcot fireworks. The deck is only available to California Grill diners but it’s definitely worth it!
The only reservation we could get for California Grill was 9.45 pm. Do you think we will be allowed to access the observation deck to watch the fireworks at 9, I.e. before we have eaten?
My assumption is yes. In order to get out on the deck there is no checkpoint at the door to the deck to prove that you dined there that day. If you are questioned, it would be at the hostess stand that is right off the elevators but the fact that you have a reservation for later time in the evening it shouldn’t be a problem at all. Both the host I spoke with and my server were very accommodating with making sure we saw the fireworks.

We went to chef Mickey's on our first visit. The food was good, we had a really fun time, but it's definitely one of those places that if you've done it once, you don't need to do it again.
