    Fun fact, before Jason worked for Team Durango he was working for hpi, and played a key role in the designing of the Savage. I wouldn't be surprised if they designed the Nero with the intention of surpassing the OG monster trucks of the early 2000s, the Savage and the Revo.

    On my Savage I lowered the body a bit and put a foam block over the center handle thingy. It sits under the body and keeps everything stiff when it flips over.
    Great unboxing, I 100% agree with your wishlist, I know hpi is slowly making a return right now, so I hope they use the money they earned from the latest savage releases to improve and meet with the current industry standards.

    I own hpi, Traxxas, arrma , I'm 45 years old and my favorite is my savage xl 5.9. I'm looking forward to a xl version updated. Nice video. I always have liked the savage line, you do not have to completely rebuild it to bash the $$$$ out of it. Minimal upgrades are needed

    Mmmm many years ago owning an HPI Savage was a goal. But as time has passed so many others have stepped up and the quality and quantity has increased a huge amount. $1,100 gets you a lot of RTR RC. The price was justified back in the day. Today not convinced this is money well spent. I'd have to find someone with one and have a drive before I could take the faith in the brand alone. Wish HPI well and hope they remain but it's a new world of RC and HPI need to address this.

    To be perfectly honest, aluminum threaded body shock adjusters tend to lock up while bashing because dirt gets into the threads. The preload clips are certainly dated and look cheap, but alteast they can be removed and added quickly when the truck is all dirty.

    I was looking forward to this release. But I am a little disappointed. New ESC placement / battery boxes are a good design change, also use of hex screws. But still using a slipper clutch! No center diff! I still see very much the same Savage Flux with the same maintenance and accessibility problems as before. I was hoping for more. It would be interesting to see if there are any changes to the gear box? If they are still using that cheese metal that grinds in metal dust. Looking forward to seeing more long term usage reviews. But at this point my money might have to be spent on an Outcast.

    • @AussieRCPlayground
      @AussieRCPlayground  3 года назад

      Hmm, disagree about the ESC. This looks like a Max8 system, wouldn't call that "budget". The shocks may not look that good, but as long as they work, it's really a superficial thing when you think about it. I do agree on the center diff, though, would've been nice to have one instead of the slipper (missed that in my wishlist).

    I agree completely with this video, and Ive come up with a good conclusion for it: Not worth it. When I first saw the teaser that HPI was finally coming back I was super stoked, and then I saw the price and just kinda stopped and went "what the hell?" Maybe they are trying to make some cash off the nostalgia from the old days when the original Savage Flux HP was the king of the bashing community over a decade ago. Maybe they don't have a choice. HPI hasn't changed ownership so many times for just no reason, they have been bankrupt more times than I can count and this might be one final desperate attempt to get back into the game. Its honestly tragic to watch such a great company go through such hardship but until the price comes down a significant amount, the answer is no, I wouldn't buy it. If it ever matches the price of the Traxxas E-Revo 2.0 ($650USD), then maybe, and if it matches the price of the Arrma Kraton 6S V5 ($600USD), then I would probably pick one up, but at about the $770 it is now, not a chance, especially with plastic shocks, just an absolute ripoff. HPI thinks they can just suck money out of nostalgic fanboys and they are going to find out the hard way that such a strategy is NOT how you do good business.

    Long time savage fanboy here haha, believe me the bumper design couldn’t do it’s job better, well done overview 👌 agree with the taller roll bar needed, I am just glad it does have one it does indeed help a little, with the savage xl flux which doesn’t have one the body flexes in on roof and causes it it split in the bottom, the shocks are pretty substantial but it’s the bore that bothers me all 1/8 vehicles comes with 16mm 4mm shaft this is only 14mm 3.5 shaft
    It will satisfy many but when you want to send it like you did your Mojave that’s the only thing holding it back is the shock shaft, I just switched to the lst shocks but Hpi needs an actual upgrade, hope you can show the potential of this thing, being a long time fanboy I’d say I’m more disappointed than most as it still doesn’t have the essentials like the center diff and aluminum rear hubs to remove the turnbuckle design but the potential is still there, I hope ya have fun with it 👍

    Hoping you can help. I bought this exact RC truck early 2022 and out of the box it was amazing the first run inside of a few minutes. Then I noticed it slowed down drastically and I brought it in and smelled some bad burning smell. I haven't had a lot of time to deal with it or tinker on as I have had to move and bought a house so I packed it up after I had already cooresponded with customer service HobbyRec or something like that and they are in Utah. 10 months later and I have a little time and their customer service is pretty good and still honored the warranty return of the motor which was their initial best guest. Replaced the motor and truck is still slow - will max at approximately 10 mph. So I wrote them and now they sent me a new ESC (both motor and ESC exact same as stock set) So I thought for sure after getting a new ESC and a new motor this brand new never run (except for that initial run 10 months ago) would now be fixed. Nope it still only goes 10 mph. And I ran it for only a couple of min this time too. My battery set p is the recommended just as the stock ESC already has two deans that connect making the two 3S batteries the same as runnng one 6S with 5000 mAh. What else do you think the problem could be??? I will say if I put my nose up close the middle between the ESC and motor smells (somewhere where that black cover with 4 screws is that would be somewhat over the motor's pinion gear. Is that what is causing it not to pick up speed? Why is it overheated in that region and it has a burnt smell to it? Sorry I don't want to call that part anything here because I'm not sure what it's called. Thanks.

    Myself I was hoping for alot more revision on some of the savages issues, don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of the savage line up, I still have a savage 25 and and a 2017 savage flux xl, I would like to of seen the slipper clutch get ditched in favour of a centre diff and threaded shocks, even plastic ones would of been OK, but I do actually like the clips for their convenience, the issue you pointed out with the bumper supports has an easy work around by putting a zip tie around them to stop them spreading OR a proper fix is to replace them with bumper supports from a savage 21 or 25 (they actually ruined them in subsequent models?!? Go figure ). The true 17mm wheel hex setup out of the box, is something savage fans have been crying out for for years. As I said before I am a big fan of the savage and the issues this truck has are just design choice flaws that don't necessarily make it a bad truck its just it could of been that little bit better and elevated against its competition from arrma and traxxas on what it has under the hood, hpi could probably benefit from listening to feedback from owners and what they'd like to see, it's good but a missed opportunity in my opinion

    I’m sure HPI would love to implement all those improvements to their lineup that you listed and more. They are still in the process of rebuilding their brand after bankruptcy they’re probably not even turning a profit yet. Once local hobby shops in America and Europe start selling their products again they’ll be able to afford to put more money into there rtr lineups. For example my jail be racing cheetah stunt truggy and my Redcat MT both come rtr with aluminum chassis aluminum big bore threaded shocks aluminum shock towers. 3s lipos and Charger. I use a 9 yr old hpi tf20u original savage flux transmitter and receiver on 1 of my traxxas cars 😂 I’ve got faith Hpi will do better!

    I’m in the market for one more big purchase and I’ve been strongly consider this or a Team Magic E6. Sadly getting a TM in Canada is brutal. So I was considering the new Savage. My issue is that the truck is very expensive compared to every other brand, and I don’t feel HPI is that relevant in RC anymore. I’m surprised that they are not pricing the Savage more competitive, instead of charging a premium for a truck that really doesn’t look like they made any improvements too.

    Keep you a small set of needle nose pliers that are knurled on the tips to remove the body pins and reinstall them. I've been doing this very process ever since I entered R/C about 5 years ago. The pair I use I believe I picked up in Advance Auto Parts in a cheap tool bin they had for maybe $3 and they fit in any pocket without discomfort so body pins should never be criticized. Yeah, lockdowns ended a while ago now, but the issue is the weather not cooperating and making it hard to get running footage. Hopefully I'll be able to run them soon. 😎

    great truck But the wheels and rims very very bad not like old one was beautiful in everything Even look it to the new one about his bumpers its same thing where is the lights that was coming on the front bumper like be4?
    well amazing video dude cheers.🍺

    Most of your improvement you want can be done by mixing some of the nitro part like the bumpers nitro model on to this and there is a wheelie bar for the nitro model they also have the shocks available in aluminum body's how ever diagnosed it should of just used the nitro part but at the same time didn't think it was need on electric and tryed to cut costs you can build it to your specifications night influence hpi to do the same 👍👌✌️💯🏎️🍻🛠️

    If the transmission is anything like the flux, you'll end up destroying the idler gear inside, and the slipper clutch is going to just glaze over and you'll have to lock it out

    It is a rebranded hobbywing, unfortunately no more castle they are my favorite but hpi is definitely not being nostalgic that's for sure I definitely do understand they can't really use castle esc's considering how expensive they are getting but definitely good review!

    Thanks for that. Good video.
    But please show more from the new things. Show the hex from the rims and the new hex hub and the explosion plan from the manual for a look at the inside. Special gearing and diff. That will be nice.
    I looked your driving video too.
    Can it not standing backflip? Like flux hd?
    I think hpi needs castle creations again. It would be nice to have this power team together again. There should be an monster x inside to show the other Brand s what a real basher is.
    But the badest thing is, again no wheeliebar out of the box.
    And i don’t like the new handle bar. With the x inside of it, you can’t carry the car with it. Don’t change the good things on the old car, change the bad things.
    But the battery boxes looks nice and stable.
    Hpi, please start to try to rule Offroad again! Make the savage and xl finally so perfect like the vorza.
    Renew the A720 Shocks with threat nutz for the springs and put it on it. Listen to the community! Make the savage xl without battery boxes like the Alza racing 2017 savage. But make it better than them, with the battery deeper for better lcg. And a version with and without center differential.
    We don’t need a new body for a car.
    Thats prolines job 😉😂.
    We need fixed problems. We wanne rule again. Make hpi great again 😉 Savage first 😊 and we want the trophy truggy back and Parts vor all the old Cars.
    Make us lucky hpi
    Please

    Would love to add this to my Savage x that I converted over to an XL. Nitro of course with an LRP 32 in it. But, this is a disappointment knowing what they're capable of when building an RC. If the prices dropped a little bit, I'd MAYBE consider it. But, until then it's a pass.

    For the price point on this truck you should see a center diff not a slipper and threaded shocks not spring spacers. HPI pretty much took there old Savage flux and tossed it in this one. For the money you’ll spend on this there are better options. That said I’m not dumping on HPI I’ve owned a few I’m just saying they need to step up their game a little bit.

    • @AussieRCPlayground
      @AussieRCPlayground  3 года назад +1

      We need to remember that not long ago the very existence of HPI was under question and the fact that not only are they still here, but they are updating their rigs is amazing. Yes, we can cretic them on what they're doing, but I feel we also need to apply a certain degree of leniency when doing so. I know this truck doesn't tick every box of upgrades and changes we would've liked to have seen, but it's very much a step in the right direction and that should be acknowledged. 🙂

      @@AussieRCPlayground yeah but on the other hand I can get on them a bit for the simple fact that they built some really nice 5th scale cars. The effort and design they put into them was incredible. It’s almost like they are lazy as of right now and putting out their older vehicles with just a little fresher look just to get back in the game. If they really want to make that comeback splash you push that envelope and rerelease your older stuff but with stuff you see rtr’s coming with these days like center diffs and threaded aluminum shocks especially for the price they are asking that’s all I’m saying. There are better options out there right now for that kind of money with the options I mentioned. Like I said I’m not crapping on HPI I bought the HPI Baja 5T when it first came out and wish I still had it.

      I get what you're saying and I totally respect it, but I also know these things can take time and money, so I feel we need to be a little patient. But even so, I certainly hope that they keep pushing and updating, and hope we don't have to wait several years to get another update. I really want this "refresh" to be the first of many. 😏

      I have a 3D printer, but I very much doubt a 3D printed wheelie bar would last more than a pack. One good hit and it'll shatter into a million pieces. LoL. I think the roof skids and inner roll cage would probably work, but I have zero faith in the wheelie bar lasting more than 5min.

    • @differentials
      @differentials 3 года назад

      @@AussieRCPlayground yes that's very true but I would 3D print the wheelie bar and modify it a few times to get it perfect and then I would make it out of aluminium or steel on the CNC machining centre. That's the best part of the 3D printer you can make stuff relatively quick and cheaply to get it right before making it out of metal.

    When hpi teased this truck I was super excited for it. Then I saw how much it was and got a little less excited. Now that it’s out it’s kind of sad how expensive it is versus how much of the truck didn’t change versus the older ones. I’d still like one but I’m not sure I can justify the price. Considering it as a stunt truck and what it’s closest competitor costs. I really want hpi to survive. But the pricing seems a little steep for some of that older tech

    Sadly HPI just doesn't have the resources or money to do a proper redesign. Same thin shock shafts that bend, same crappy bumpers, and that horrible rear toe-in link that always would break.

    • @AussieRCPlayground
      @AussieRCPlayground  3 года назад

      Bumpers are different, but the supports are the same. Haven't broken anything on it yet or bent the shock shafts.
      Also, HPI are coming back from the dead, so to be so negative about this truck just shows to me you don't even want them back. I, on the other hand, do want them back and want to give them a chance and time to rebuild. Not having a perfect truck outta the gate is nothing to worry about at the moment, so I'm happy with these changes even though I would've liked to see more. So hopefully in the next version we will some more revisions on the Savage. 🙂

    769 US dollars no way in hell!!!! Looks way cheap plastic almost everything including shocks no way!!! HPI has been out of the hame for a long time they need to step back and look to see what’s in the market and really try to get in where they fit in. Not trying to be negative but that price for that just really has no place in today’s market. This looks more like something that would come from Banggood……….
