O rings in the diff cups Phil. It tightens up the drive line and keeps the dog bones from dropping all the time. Every savage does it occasionally. This has been a great video series. Cheers mate Merry Christmas.
I don't remember the exact size either 8 or 10mm will work. A small ball of sponge would do the trick but will compress over time and O rings won't. The dog bones on my nitro savage drop out quite regularly when they get a bit worn but this little trick tightens everything up and stops them wearing out quite as often. I got this info from an old savage forum years ago and have done it ever since. Hope this helps. 👍🏻
Nice one Mr Tomley! IMHO HPI are one of the best manufacturers out there. Did you notice how both the HPI's you ran recently both tracked staright, both were built tough and are great fun. I have always been an HPI fan and I am really pleased to see them on your channel. Nice vid sir! Merry Christmas mate.
The minus side is that it is pretty costly. But my experience with HPI tells me the extra cost has been put on radio, servo and wheels. That for me is a big plus because there is no need to upgrade it straight away as it is with 95% of all other RTR.
on mine the first thing i did as soon as i took it out of the box was upgraded the swing arms , metal diff case , new rims and tires , re oil the shocks with thicker one i felt it was too bouncy stock form for me , then i changed the pinion and kept the stock ecs and motor for now but i want to go for a sensored 5300kv motor and put a 17 tooth pinion thats my next upgrade . it needs some reinforcement on the middle part of chassis. and cvd's because just like him i also pop the shafts.
@Coyote.five.0 Sounds like wise upgrades 👍. I usually make upgrades step by step when something breaks or has other issues I find disturbing 🙂 Are the original wheels and tires not good or why did you changed them?
I used to have one of these with the white raptor body. It’s the only car I’ve regretted selling. Apart from chewing through drive cups it’s an absolute tank. Tempted to get another one now. Another great review, Phil. 👍🏻
This seemed faster than the stampede BL2s you did. But, the stampede definitely seems more durable. Only a few bent shock rods. Seems every few jumps with this, you were hitting the bench digging through your box of bits. 😂 Still a great video, Phil. I like this thing.
Whoah.... I totally was not expecting that performance on the BMX track.!!! Well done little Savage.!!👍 👍 👍 You too Phil.! 😉 😉 Those crashes are pretty much a guarantee every time you comment on how well an RC is driving. 😂 😂 😂 I'm curious to see a back to back 10 minute bash, one normal & one where you don't comment.!! 😂 😂 😂 😂 Hey... Maybe if you say it's driving terribly you'll get a 100% perfect run.?? 😉
I have really enjoyed your reviews during this Christmas Advent series. This little truck looks tough. It's kind of sad that the popularity of HPI declined in the U.S. since the 90's, when it one was one of the most popular brands. The nitro Savage was a brute. I think r/c's like this could help bring them back to a more popular position. I found one thing interesting when I checked on prices in the U.S., the El Camino version is about $25 less. Maybe because the body looks like it was designed by Evil Knievel.
@@TomleyRC I think this is a good little truck. You gave it.a good review. There is another RUclipsr I follow in the U.S. who really beats up the trucks and cars he tests. He shows no mercy. He went into detail about all the good things about it. I think there are a lot of people who would like to see HPI be more successful. I think if they lowered the price by about $50 on this truck they would sell a lot.
Pretty fantastic truck, Phil! Awesome bashing and review!!! 😃 When you can, take a look at the ZLL SG216! I saw a guy bashing it at an skate park and he couldn't brake it. But I bet you can! 😬 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊 Merry Christmas and happy new year!
Hi tomley 2 little thing that you don't know a bout the new controller 1st is it can be changed to left handed by swopping the steering round and 2 just underneath the throttle Trigger if you look on the base of the transmitter you will see a HPI sticker underneath the sticker is a magnet so you can stick your body pins to the controller ps being whatch all these Christmas calendar videos brilliant idea love it can I have one next year🙂👍
I have enjoyed your Christmas advent calendar. Time well spent ! Thank you for all these reviews 🙏 I am going to treat myself and get the micro crawler to play in the offi...ekhm home !😅 Merry Christmas and wish you a wonderful time with your family 🎄 🎄 🎄
Enjoying your 25 days of Christmas’s and gaining respect for your Chanel…informative, honest and mature…not just killing equipment to get views. We need to get you a better space to do you speed run tests. The long narrow road with curbs could be improved. Keep going!
I had one of the first models of this car, when they were first released, it was fun but it gets annoying and eventually drive cups will break and they are a pain to work on, good to see they are still around after HPI was sold off
My calibrated speed eyes know that! 😆 great work, Tomley. I use an old savage body made to half cab on a crawler rig I call sportyortydopalicious, aka sporty doowop aka the Mutt 😂 a truck with many names... Perfect 👌 bodies for crawlers nice and low plus original nobody uses them. I've always loved hpi they had the king basher title for years! 💯
I absolutely loved this rc. I have the grey and green one. It was a speed demon and so much fun. But it was a headache to work on. I unfortunately stopped trying to fix it for nearly a year now... Maybe it's time I get new parts and bring it back to life
My Savage Flux XS was the first solid basher I drove. I really was impressed. It was more nimble than most cars of its size as well. There is a new one also curious if it truly improved after the other company took over HPI.
Hi tomley love your vids, been watching your vids for a while and is thrilled to have a 1 video aday for 25 days due to the advent calender and im in the hobby, its tough and expensive for me i just have a hbx 16889a pro and a mst rmx 2.5. I decided not to go with the cheapos and went straight to hobby grade for the long term, merry christmas to you and your family!
Only trouble i have with the Savage XS is the drive pins, they break quite a lot. I've tried shims, allen keys as drive pins, drill blanks as drive pins and niether worked. Now i keep it on 2s and everythings fine. This was with stock wheels and PL gladiator tyres.
Did you try different weight oil , I feel like it’s impossible to build a perfect rc if it’s indestructible than it doesn’t perform as well , maybe titanium drill blanks , I used to break those pins in arrma diffs and just come to realize your skills can always supersedes the rc matching your set up , like people will say xxmaxx won’t break bad landings but you can never get to the speed and heights continuously as you could with R AND D 30 year old race designs , these HPI are cool because they come up with their own design 30 years ago and still just as good 👍
Had one of those for about 7-8 years. Only ran it in 2s. Drive cups, slipper pads, and shock ends (think i fitted traxxas ones) were the only real Issues. Regret selling it tbh, pound for pound great little trucks. Tempted to get another
I have MT10 Max10 120a esc and 3200kv motor on 15t pinon. I can't even hit full throttle. Maybe to much air getting under the v2 body. Getting some belted tyres for it see if that helps. Motor temps stayed super cool on the 15t.
That was fun. You must be knackered from making vids mate. It's odd but when I got back into the hobby I really didn't go in for the RTR Trucks, and it was mostly trucks and the odd buggy here and there. I had to ask where the Tamiya buggies were, or if they still had them. Funnily enough I still only have two HPI buggies. The tiny little 1/24(?) 2wd and the 5b, which isn't tiny. This advent calendar has been awesome btw.
That looked way more stable than I ever expected it to be, especially on that wet greasy looking road.!! I really thought it would struggle to get the power down.. I own the original xs. It's at least 12 years old. Old electronics died around 10 yrs old. I now run a vxl3. Still not as cool as the original flux savage's ability to do standard backflips and 80 mph castle creation 22v combo. Absolutely insane.
Just ordered one, I'm having a little trouble finding the 24 tooth pinion recommended, any suggestions ? I'm in the states. Thanks for the video, subscribed !

Thank you for the idea ! Have a great rest of the year, only 3 months left ! Cheers.

Yes, both need minimal set up if anything out the box. Looking forward to more from HPI 👌

It's expensive but worth it if you're into a smaller scale for sure
The 'NASCAR" is a Chevy El Camino body. Don't think it made it to the euro market back when they made it .
