In this video I walk though my first impressions of ownership of my new 2023 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. Lots to love and plenty to dislike. This truck is a matter of preference… it’s not for everyone. If you have the opportunity to test drive a new TRD Pro, I highly recommend it. You’ll be blown away by the performance and really appreciate the creature comforts. It’s a high tech machine that delivers exceptional numbers. Excited to share this side by side with my inbound ice cap white 2023 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro.
The question is… are you okay with bidding farewell to the V8 of old?
Thanks for watching as always!

The big tow mirrors are a HUGE PLUS for anyone who actuallly tows and for a truck that was built with a ton of focus on towing. Mike Sweers said while testing and creating this truck, different aspects of towing was very important and a huge focus on a great towing truck and they really did do a great job with it cause this truck is the best towing experience I’ve ever had. It’s so effortless, smooth, stable, and I don’t even notice I’m towing a big trailer or boat behind me so it’s great they added the option for these tow mirrors for the tow package. This truck looks so damn good!
Thats great. I am looking forward to hooking up and towing very VERY..soon!
Sounds you were freezing your ass off, but yet you continued to finish the video, much appreciated…thanks for the info
As a 2020 Raptor owner this TRD Pro looks good. It presents very well.
Great video. I have a 2021 Tundra TRD Pro double cab and in a month it will be two years since my order was fulfilled. I would never ever sell this truck. I've owned a Tacoma V6, F-150 Ecoboost King Ranch, and a GMC Sierra 1500 6.2L V8, and the Tundra with Fox shox is the most comfortable truck I have ever driven. I love the simplicity of it's interior, I love the seats which are very comfortable for long trips (the GMC were the worst seats I've ever had in a vehicle), and it tows better than any truck I have owned.
I have 42,008 miles on it now and I think it is the best highway cruising engine ever. I just got back from a two week vacation taking the family from central Texas to West Virginia, and with wife, three kiddos, and a 6,500 lbs camping trailer, I got 10.8 mpg the entire way there and back. My F-150 Ecoboost averaged around 7.5-8 mpg, and the GMC Sierra averaged around 10 mpg. My kids are older and bigger now then during those days.
Twin turbos suck ass for towing.
Anyway, great video and its a shame you sold that 2021 Tundra.
Honestly this truck is bad ass. Love the light bar. Plus reliability of Toyota. Great truck.
Amazing truck! I got my TRD PRO at Carlsbad Toyota great dealership and customer service!! I love the tech and new redesign. I added the same tires plus the designs leveling kit. Enjoy it 🤙🏾ready for off-road!!
Pro Tip...If you're seeing the side of your truck when you look in the side mirrors (07:46 mark in your video) then your mirrors aren't adjusted correctly for your blind spot. They should be adjusted so the side of your vehicle is just outside of the mirrors view. With this setting every car behind you three lanes wide should be visible in at least one of your mirrors. If a car passes or overtakes you on the right or left...as soon as it leaves that side mirror it should appear in the window itself.
Great review. Black does look amazing for the TRD pro. Black looked good on the Tundra in the previous generation. On an another note - Corwin Toyota in Fargo, ND is a great dealership. I drive 3 hrs to buy my 2021 1794, off-road Tundra there in 2021. They gave me a good price and trade as well. Looking forward to hearing more about your experience with the 2023 TRD Pro
Thanks Raj! Appreciate that. Glad to hear you’ve had an equally positive experience within Corwin. 👌
Beautiful truck!!!! I think your tires look really good with the white letters out!!! I absolutely love my platinum, I look forward to driving it every time I get in it. As much as I loved my 2020 I don’t miss it at all, and appreciate the changes every time I sit in my fathers 2020 Pro.
Thanks man. I’m with you… there’s a lot to like with this new platform. It feels 2023. 👌
The new Tundra is a truck that has to be done right and with all the options on it for me to like it. This one in the video is freaking beautiful looking and I wish I could afford it. The all blacked out appearance, rims and tires make it perfect.
Thank you! I’m shocked by how much I actually like this black color on the pro. The “loud” parts are subdued by the dark paint -which really adds to it’s overall appeal. 👌
@@UntamedMotors consumer reports does not recommend this vehicle… no easy way to get in the bed, mpgs are not much better than outgoing v8, reliability unproven, no bench seat option, fit and finish atrocious, engine failures the list goes on
I’m glad you got back even though it wasn’t your first choice. Kinda cool looking actually. Also, in my opinion when a dealership puts add ons like the PPF, tonneau cover, and door guards and you don’t know about it shows that the dealership is looking out for the customer and not just themselves.
You pay for those things. Nobody is looking out for us.
7:29 the black wheels, red center caps and white lettering on the tires remind me of a modern version of the back the future truck!! Check out that 4x4.
Agreed. I’m usually not a black color vehicle fan either but here, it hides that huge grill.
I'd never want black, but the black PRO with a white BFG's are awesome! Great looking truck!
Yup looks nice when clean but dirrrrty
I’m sold on this truck now. So nice
I ordered this beauty on September 2022, I Got it on February 8, 2023, with some extra features, I finished the papers for $91,000. I drove it 5 miles (Five), and it's in the dealer since last night, 9 features require sensors are not working now, I am not happy. Made in America.
I had a 22 TRD PRO in the same colour. Glad you changed the tires. The Falkens that came standard on mine were SHOCKING in the snow. I just traded it in for a 23 fully loaded Platinum. Only request was KO2s for tires. lol Great truck you have there, I love the black, personally other than it always looks dirty so quickly.
why did you go from pro to platinum? I like the looks of the pro but like the inside goodies of the 1794 and platinum trucks.
@@condonsautoparts for exactly that reason. The TRD PRO WAS very cool. BUT, am I ever going to run the baja? am I ever going to truly take a truck that expensive off road and break it? we both know the answer. This is also our family car....my family very much appreciate the rear heated and cooled seats and far fancier interior over the cool factor of the TRD PRO I couldn't afford to break. I tow....a LOT, but otherwise my truck like most, is a pavement princess.
Nice!!!! With two kiddos I’m going to have to upgrade from my 1794 to the Capstone version of the Sequoia…. But this beast right here is very nice!
Beautiful truck i wish i own one last year i bought 2022 venza hybrid limited i really love it good on gas ⛽ very comfortable and quiet lexus like interior materials thanks for your video take care bye from milton Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Wow!! What an awesome looking truckk… wish I had the money to get one . Enjoy it 🤙🏾
Thanks a ton man!
Thank you for sharing this!
I'm falling more and more in love with this truck. I'm an SUV guy, so I would probably love a Sequioa, but I don't like the light-bar taillights they used for that. Would have preferred the upright verticals, like on this Tundra. I mean, it makes sense, right? Since it competes with the Tahoe, Expedition, & such, but they went ahead and made it look like a Pathfinder, or Traverse. Yuck!
Congrats on the truck. Hope you get to enjoy it for many years to come.
Thanks a ton man! It’s a sweet truck… loving it more and more each time I drive it. It’s a blast. I hear you on the sequoia, I’m surprised they did that too for the tails. Good point considering it’s competition. 👌
The 2023 Tundra has got me seriously considering Toyota for the first time. Im traditionally a Big 3 shopper. Not really "Brand loyal" per say. I Love the TRD Pro trim and styling, I just wish they would offer it with a 6.5' bed. I know the idea behind TRD is Off-Road, shorter wheel base, blah blah blah. But with the costs of these trucks nowadays, you should be able to order them dang near "A La carte".
definitely agree.
i just dont know about the twin turbo v6
@@Rylanhere A nice V8 is definitely preferable but 437hp and like 540lb ft of torque is solid for what it is, better than alot of competitors and it’s a Toyota so it should be quality
@@patrickwenning4431 i just don’t like the twin turbos more things to break.
I agree on the a la carte side. at 70k plus there is zero reason to not allow ordering just about any way you want it. but toyota doesn't even work on ordering right now, you get what the dealers are allocated still.
you can get the 6.5 in most of the other trims even with the crew max. Which is a new addition for the 22+ models which is nice, but still should offer on the pro.
Congratulations on truck. I’m loving my 2021 TrdPro Tundra for now, looks very similar to this one in black. It’s tempting but will wait on 24”s and then get the 23. See how the turbo reliability turns out. How’s the wind noise in comparison to your 21?
Love the way it looks. Niiice truck 🔥
My uncle bought hey 1987 Toyota forerunner I have no clue he still has it in his garage immaculate he said people are are still paying good money for them around I’m seeing a lot of older Land Cruiser‘s and Toyota pick ups out there👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪
The base model Tundra's are hideous but the TRD pro with some beefier tires looks pretty sweet. Love the way yours looks! Looking to get a new truck sometime next year. Putting in over time every day aiming for a trx but will definitely look into all other options once the time comes.
Best of luck.
There are so many good trucks in the market! But still hate the price tags 😂😂
Yeah i totally agree, unless it's a TRD PRO or Capstone I find the Tundra's super ugly and vanilla.
there ain't ugly cars, but cars with ugly tires...
Hi, it's a beautiful Toyota tundra! Congratulations enjoy your truck.
Thank you Veronica! 🙏🏼
Awesome truck man. I can't believe the price. I got a ram 2500 cummins to tow with for 74. Midnight package and tows 20k thus shouldn't be over 50k. My first tundra 18 costed 38 new. It was a awesome truck.
Love the black dude, this tundra is really growing on me! Love it man!
Much appreciated brother 🙌
Man. That is one sweet ass truck. Congrats
beautiful truck. hopefully this year ill own one
That is a really beautiful truck. I hope to get a tundra one day.
Power wise I think it's great! Plus bronze accents will add a nice touch to the colour.
I agree! Bronze wheels on this would look great 👌
beautiful truck buddy I just bought my first Tundra, 2023 4X2 Hybrid Limited. I love it. Sub

Great review and gorgeous truck
Thank you, Fernando!
this is a dream truck of mine but I think im too short for a full sized (5'8) but these things are so cool and I love that rear window that can go down thats a big thing for me
You’re are definitely NOT too short for a full size truck! Haha I’m 5’9” and it feels right.
Hey, are you running 35×12.50R18 for the tires? I have the same truck and I love the stance of yours
That is one beautiful truck my man.
How much smaller is the rear? Smaller length or width? Amazing truck!
Would’ve been nice if they had more color options and an option to get black instead of the camo theme. Would’ve loved to get mine in Silver with black instead of camo.
Funny thing is I love the look of these new ones but I will miss the V8. But I just bought my first Toyota a 2009 tacoma 4X4 5 speed. Never imagined being outside of a ford but the timing and the fact it had a manual and my car was dead I had to buy something at that moment. Compared to my 07 ranger I had I quality of the tacoma is night and day. Ride quality build quality etc. I love fird but being 21 I need something that will be reliable for a long tine and something I can work with so in comes the tacoma. But I would love to have one of these in a perfect world with a 6 speed manual.
I've owned 2 Tundras 2019 SR5 Double Cab and now a 2020 Limited Crewmax and they both had blind spot monitors and all the new safety features Toyota was putting out. I love the look of the Truck, don't get me wrong. It is amazing looking, but I didn't by a Truck from fuel economy. I love my 5.7L V8 and the sound it makes with my TRD Dual Exhaust system. Everything is preferences and I feel if Toyota just held out 1 to 2 more years and gave people options to either pick the 5.7L V8 or switch to the Twin. Their sales would explode! I love the look of my truck, but wouldn't mind having the new body with the bullet proofing of the 5.7L V8. Ford is putting the V8 back in the Raptor because of what people were saying about the V6. Love the truck, but I just can't get rid of that V8 power and fun.
Love the tundra in black. You should make the lightbar yellow or amber for inclement weather. Let’s see a 0-120mph run😅😂
Amber light bar would be neat 👌
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the Raptor looks like kids Tonka Toy to me, the Tundra limited TRD PRO package is understated but very rugged looking, much cooler rig.
Simplemente hermosa!. Congrats 👏 brother.
Thank you 🙏🏼
Love the truck! How do the 35’s ride? And how many mpg are you averaging?
That’s probably the nicest spec tundra I’ve seen
Thank you for putting the white letters on the outside of the tires lol.
I love that truck in black. Very sharp.
Amazing truck! I love the tech and new redesign. I added the same tires plus the westcott designs leveling kit. I drove my 2022 tundra 4x4 trd off road (non hybrid )from Los Angeles to San Diego, roughly 150 miles. I didn't even get 12mpg. My 2020 sr5 4x4 will give me 11mpg on 35s with a similar setup. Performance wise the new gen feels quicker. I'm not seeing the savings at the pump going from a v8 to this twin turbo. What are you averaging on your mpg's?
What? I thought the new tundras mpg were at or above 20mph!??
@jbw5485 the bigger wheels and lift hurt my mpgs. I can't compare the miles per gallon I got before the lift and tires where installed. I drove the truck for about 40 miles then got the new wheels.
@@jbw5485 what they claim and reality are very different. 13-16 is real results from most drivers. You can get 18 if you drive with a really lite foot
@@condonsautoparts yeah I understand what they claim is different from reality but I’ve watched a few RUclips videos showing it in the 22 to 24 mpg range. 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Nice truck brother, God Bless!!!
Thanks brother, I appreciate it 🙏🏼
I have the exact truck but the 2022. The stock tires are shit and it’s looks so much better with the 35s.
Did u have to do any mods to get the 35s on without rubbing?? Lift? Leveling kit, trimming???
Your truck looks amazing! Love the stance! What's the exact tire size on those BFGs? I have the same truck Solar Octane!!!
Black looks good when clean! Get ready to wash the truck a bunch if that bothers you. Very cool pick up. Enjoy it while you have it
Ceramic coatings are the best investment on black vehicles.
@@mikehughes8023 I second that! I did a 2 step cut and polish and ceramic coated it makes it easier to wash.
Love it. Cant justify new vehicle costs though. Simply put. I don't think its 50-60k better than an old tundra/landcruiser/4runner
I agree. Unfortunately 70K has become the new “50K” thanks for inflation and several other related supply factors. =\
I said id never own black vehicle again, but man that new tundra looks so good in black
Wow, you have a beautiful truck!
Nice looking truck. Tires look great. Good luck with it. Hopefully that engine lives up to Toyotas reputation for reliability.
Doubt it
Now with the 35s can you make full turns without rubbing?
Damn. That's a great looking truck.
Dumb question, do the 2022/23’s have a transmission cooler ?
I’m not exactly sold on the new generation here it looks decent with it being all black and the previous does have blind spot monitoring etc my 2020 TRD sport off-road 4x4 has all of that the BSM and RCTA etc
Could you or anyone else tell me if you did a lift or just a leveling kit to fit the 35s. That setup is what i am looking to do to my truck. Thank you
I know you rep Go Rhino, but the cast aluminum TRD steps are pretty great. I had the RB20’s on my ‘21 Pro and these are better all around - grippier, perfect width, super sturdy.
Good call not getting a lift. The Westcott 3/1 is stiffer than stock, great on most roads, terrible on bumps, but the economical lift option. Only the Pro can run 35’s stock without rubbing unfortunately.
Toyota is going to provide a stock lift too, I’d go for that since it would be under warranty as well
@@jbzookeeper it’s out already. Good reviews so far but $3k for the kit plus another $1500 install at the dealer is crazy.
What size bfg tires ..? Did you install a lift kit for this tires
Black is really cool actually.
Love the black and bigger tires 😍
Thank you so much!
I currently have a 3rd generation raptor and I find the driver seat to be extremely uncomfortable. How comfortable is the seat in the Toyota? I'm considering making a change.
Nice nice nice truck man👌🏼
Distance. During Covid KS had an incredible amount of '21 Tacos to choose from compared to OK (wasteland due to sale region thing), so crossed the border.. but I had no idea the Wichita, KS dealer filled my purchase desire w/ the truck from Corwin of Bellevue, NE. Something like that dealer reciprocating might've saved the baby boy stress? ;) Congrats!
Gorgeous truck congrats.
What size tray is on it, looks really good.
What size wheels and tires are those and do you have a lift kit to fit them ?
Looks awesome! What size are those BFGs?
Did you get an extended warranty? How much was it? Shopping for one.
The tires do make a huge upgrade for looks
Thanks man. Shocked by how much it improved the look. 👌
I had a 22 TrdOff road and it was a good truck, I now have the 24 Trd Pro and between the two there are some big differences. Hands down the imax engine is much better more power, but also more finicky and it is louder in mechanical noises. The suspension is obviously better off road but not on the street, very bouncy, I thought. I am running duratracs got rid of those crappy wilderpeaks it came with definitely helped out. I have a boat I pull and you cant even tell it has 3000+ pounds on it, I didn't need the tow mirrors guess that's a preference. Interior is nicer looks like they spent a bit longer putting it together. I don't like that you can only use the grill light with the high beams wish i could use it when "I" wanted to. Hate the auto lights on this truck, they move when other cars come in and cut off your lighted path. They should've just left the adjustment wheel like on the regular Tundra. Also the headlights are weird they cutoff maybe 40 ft down the street and you can't see at all, like someone drew a line in the road and the light won't go past that? I really do like the truck much better than my Trd Off road model. But is it worth the extra 25K? If I can get the Trdoff road with the Imax engine then I would definitely go that way! But it wasn't available when I got my pro!
Yeah, there are always things that can be improved after the fact. The ONLY change I would ask is for the gas lid to be locked. I have a 2015 Honda Civic Coupe with this technology. Other than that. I am completely happy with my 2023 Tundra and cannot wait to tow my Airstream and start camping!
I don’t know why they won’t lock the gas lid. It’s so risky from a vandalism or theft point of view.
@@shahree100 I would rather have the gas stolen, than have those knuckleheads drill into the gas tank...
It is locked .. there is an electronic button on the dash
Weird civic flex but okay? 🤔 😂
@@ADayInTheLifeOfJames Choices. I don't mind as I get 45 a gallon. Now-a-days that's prices, rest assured, its all black too. Looks sharp and drives easy. I chipped it too.
Wish you to have a lot of good time with your new black fury.
Beautiful truck!
Do you have any rubbing with 35” tires?
Can you tell me what tires you have? Any rubbing?
As a Trail Boss owner, that’s not a bad looking truck.
Thank you, Clay!
Nice truck. What lift u got on this with 35s.?
That is one beautiful truck my man. Congrats. I ended up buying a 2022 F150 Tremor but really wanted to check out the new Tundra. Unfortunately I was told that there was a year waiting list for one so I elected for another Ford. But you got a nice looking ride
Trust, you made the right choice, those 2022 ford are 3 gen as this tundra is 1 gen, it's already having problems. At least ford worked out all their problems with the 3.5L TT.
@@MWAclanGaming I’ve had 3 F150s with the 3.5 Ecoboost, including the Raptor. Fortunately for me, I didn’t have a lick of trouble with any of them, but then again, I barely kept them a year so they had hardly any miles. But I believe you’re correct. With all the Cam Phaser issues they hopefully (by this time) got the problems worked out. But it took how many years??? Toyota owners may be experiencing some serious pain with their new engine design. I hope not but for 70-80 grand you’d thjnk that you wouldn’t have to deal with that.
@@robertf3340 yeah but unfortunately every car manufacturer uses the first gen as their Guinea pigs, to test out all the problems to later fix them. Car engineer make them but don't know how to fix them so mechanic over time at the toyota dealership will put bullets to them so years later the next gen the problem would be solved. Same with Ford 3.5L ecoboost the first gem had serious problems with seals behind the engine and lifers and cams. The 3 gen are great because there problems are fixed except for some ford raptor for who know what.
@@MWAclanGaming For what they charge people for these vehicles they should be ashamed but yeah, the public bares the brunt of the F-ups fro. The designers and manufacturers. It’s always been that way and always will. Just a little less palatable now that the standard price for most cars starts abokt the 45-50k range.
Ford is years ahead of Toyota. You honestly made the right choice. I just purchased my first ford after only owning Toyota. Fords been at it with the eco boost for a while now so just makes sense
Tires definitely make the truck for sure. How do they go down the road? Are they quiet? Any pull from right to left? And also any vibration of any sorts?
I don’t think they’re loud at all. Quiet compared to most other A/T tires. 👌
The taillights and rear bumper still have me scratching my head. Other than that it’s a great looking truck!
That thing looks badasss, it’s a beautiful truck, it would be my choice
did you changed the wheels? I like it
What's the exact size of the wheels? I just got one today in Megallic Gray.
Thanks for sharing 👍🏿
Looks really good in all black
Thanks man, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how good this midnight black metallic actually looks in this new Gen. =]
Did you have to lift or cut to install the BFG 35's.
Hi Bro, does your Tundra automatically drive when you turn on the adaptive cruise control, lane-tracing assist, lane-departure alert function. I have a new Tundra 2023, when I turned on these functions, the feeling cannot compare to the moment when I drove Honda Odyssey 2021. My Honda Odyssey can drive automatically in its way. I am wondering that whether I forget to adjust any button to make my Tundra driving automatically?
If I recall the Tundra only had lane alert not lane keep. The lane alert just signals when you’ve drifted out of the lane.
I'd love a Tundra or Sequoia. I have no need for anything that big, but man they sure are nice
Great looking truck! Do your tires rub at all?
