2 of my favorites - together! good to see you both and your artwork.. keep up inspiration! always learn so much from you both.. thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts/process and more.. :)
I never dreamed that my two favorite internet art professors would participate in a drawing challenge together in the same video! It was very enjoyable to see you discussing the art process.
I have one of your instructional videos open in another tab as I watch this video. It's really wonderful that novices like me have the pleasure of seeing some great artists in action on RUclips.
Proko and James Gurney = match made in heaven. Love this collab video, it really was a great practical way to look at limited palette painting and gamut masking as James has described it before - plus it was heartwarming as all hell.
oh wow it's James Gurney. I had no idea it was him untill I saw the dinosaur at the end. I recognize his work. I love his book on color and light. Now that I know it was him, it doesn't surprise me he was able to such a great detailed plain air so quickly... his blockbuster plain air he did in 2000 has been a huge inspiration for me and my work as an artist... I love your wagon as well. Great video. thanks for sharing.
The videos of you two painting at this plein air event were absolutely delightful! It's always nice to see artists working along side each other to create stuff! I have a few of James' books but I didn't know he had a RUclips channel, I'm happy to say I'm following him now too. Thanks for the awesome content yet again Proko! :D
This is awesome!! I bought James' 'Color And Light' book a few years ago, I'm in love with his style. I'm so happy my two favourite artists are doing a collab.
Holy crow Proko, you got to paint with James Gurney, how awesome is that? This is one of my favorite videos on your channel. I really enjoy seeing a little bit more of your natural personality. I would love to see more videos of you out of the studio.
This is the absolute best video! I’m such a big fan of James Gurney and so enjoyed your interview with him on Draftsmen, too. Seeing you sketch out the tonal values in graphite first is such a great idea. I can’t believe I didn’t consider this vs figuring it out with paint as I go (I’m a beginner). Thanks for sharing this video!
Seeing your POV is great. I like your study and planning. it would have been great to see you painting the same subject and chatting along the work, confronting ideas and sharing tips. James is way more practical: smaller surface and lightweight gears:P
I love this video! I really enjoyed learning how great artists like you and James overcome challenges. It was really creative of you to come up with solutions when you lacked the paint you wanted. I thought it turned out so well! Smart idea to put warm greys to make the trees appear more green. I'd like to try plein air painting one day and not be a chicken. Your tips are very helpful! Thank you Stan :)
Hi, Proko. I´m from Spain, and I´ve been following your from many years. I´m glad you´re starting to show videos for the use of color and acrylics. I´m writing you, because I´ve recently read the Gurney´s book about the use of color and light, and one of the things I want to know more is the choose of triangle in the color wheel. I notice in the video you select a curious set of colors and this choise produces an intriguing triangle. I hope you´ll do a video about the triangle´s issue. Sure it´ll help me feel I´m understand better it. Thanks for many interesting videos! :)
I am just constantly amazed what can be created with such a limited palette! You would think orange and purple wouldn't work in such a painting, but the end results feels right. I would love to create outdoor photos & videos with a similar limited palette; I am not sure how to go about it, but this video has given me the spark to try and figure it out. Many thanks, my good sir!
found his a channel a few weeks ago, its honestly very interesting and I've watched a few of his videos. He makes me want to better my painting skills although I'm not going for a concentration in it lmao, the fact he catches such defined detail in short amounts of time is wild.
I've just started teaching myself to draw and all your videos on formal techniques and tools are amazing, really high quality stuff compared to a lot of youtube. These fun videos with some of my childhood heroes are simply icing on the cake.
Stan Prokopenko and James Gurney - best crossover I've seen since The Avengers! Seriously though, excellent to see the two approaches and reactions. Very helpful.
Such a great video! As a beginner, being able to watch the entire process really helped me understand how to work with b/w values early on and then selecting a corresponding color palette. Was really struggling with this before.
What a great video. I love James Gurney and seeing him was the main reason I watched it. And I have to say this was very enjoyable to watch, you have a great laid back and funny personality man. You are also a great painter! Subscribed and hope to see more, cheers man!
Oh man! Two of my all time favorite artists - teaming up together on a Plein Air paint video. I am absolutely over the moon! It is so interesting seeing both video "takes" from each artist and comparing the two. ... so bummed I couldn't make it to the event in San Diego. I'm enormously grateful to you guys for creating and sharing your experience.
Really cool to see you and Gurney together in the same video! Also I'd be really interested if you ever did a video expanding on that limited palette diagram.
Awesome to see what you can do with such a limited palette! By the way, it's much easier to get the values right on the cart if you paint in some of the background around it.
Hah, i just got gurney's books yesterday, because you recommend them on your site, and then this shows up :9 Great one. Another challenge i'd like to see is figurepainting with watercolor, its so impressive what some people can do with that.
Oh wow two of my favorite artists together in one video! So cool! Would love to paint with you someday - come check out Orange County for beautiful scenery and give me a holler. I’ll bring my students along as well!
What a great video! Awesome company! And oh, your painting looks so great. How come such a boring wagon looks so interesting in your art work! Thanks for the video and for instruction notes, Stan 👍🏻
I think I laughed at every single unfortunate problem in the beginning of this, and I felt kind of bad but that’s also part of what made this so great. =>.
You guys are my two go to artists on youtube! Love your content and I am blowen away that I have just discovered your plen air painting video!! Its a bit funny too cauze I have just started to do plen air paintings myself xD My I ask Proko what kind of camera you are using to record your painting progress? I would love to paint my mothers favourite place as a gift and I would love to aadd to the gift a rendered video :3
Awesome job, guys! BTW when I'm painting on location , the more I get into the painting, the less I'm looking at the original scene. So by the time the sun changes, I'm already Iin my own world...lol
What other art challenge should I do?
Proko The style challenge
How about doing something with both your hands, like, first drawing with one hand and then painting it with the other.
Draw kangaroo from imagination.
More of 2 colour techniques would be great, good vid Proko!
Drawing a model, but you should draw it upside down
It sure was fun to paint with you. Tip of the hat to Sean, who did a great job filming for you.
Thanks!
+James Gurney it was such a privilege! Hope to paint with you again sometime.
2 of my favorites - together! good to see you both and your artwork.. keep up inspiration! always learn so much from you both.. thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts/process and more.. :)
Woah, didn't expect to see you to doing a colab with the legendary James Gurney himself! :0
James, you should adopt Proko, Jazza, Will Terrell, and Baylee Jae. You'd be my favorite art family.
I never dreamed that my two favorite internet art professors would participate in a drawing challenge together in the same video! It was very enjoyable to see you discussing the art process.
Joseph Fishbeck он русскоговорящий?
с чего бы это? лучше спроси себя, песик, ты англоговорящий?)
My thoughts exactly! SO FUN!
Awesome
+The Art of Aaron Blaise Aaron! Looking forward to our collabs.
I have one of your instructional videos open in another tab as I watch this video. It's really wonderful that novices like me have the pleasure of seeing some great artists in action on RUclips.
OH MY GOD! Big fan of the two of you! Looking forward to it too!

Gurney seems like the sweetest man ever, he's so nice!
He just like me man

This was extremely enjoyable. And, as always, this was also educational! Great work.
+Kyle Webster thanks Kyle!

Proko and James Gurney = match made in heaven. Love this collab video, it really was a great practical way to look at limited palette painting and gamut masking as James has described it before - plus it was heartwarming as all hell.
I'm really digging Proko's personality in this. I like the candid feel. Swearing makes the setting feel more natural too.
oh wow it's James Gurney. I had no idea it was him untill I saw the dinosaur at the end. I recognize his work. I love his book on color and light. Lol, I love that you gave attention to sunscreen application. Very important!
Oh man, you're getting all sorts of living legends on here. Awesome.
The annotations and descriptions are great! Understanding how an experienced artist like you thinks while painting is really fascinating

Ive never seen that many painters in one space before, was it some kind of gathering?
Yeah, it was from a Plein Air convention in San Diego
I see reading is not your strong point
Holy crow Proko, you got to paint with James Gurney, how awesome is that? This is one of my favorite videos on your channel. I really enjoy seeing a little bit more of your natural personality. I would love to see more videos of you out of the studio.

Yeah! Two of my favorite artists/bloggers painting together. Wonderful and inspiring. Thanks to you both!
4:10 I forgot how to do axels! Thank you for reminding me, they are perpendicular to the axel!
Stan Prokopenko and James Gurney - best crossover I've seen since The Avengers!
Seriously though, excellent to see the two approaches and reactions. Very helpful.
This is cool. I’ve been looking into the Zorn palette. Anders Zorn mostly used black, white, yellow ochre, and cad red.
Such a great video! As a beginner, being able to watch the entire process really helped me understand how to work with b/w values early on and then selecting a corresponding color palette. Was really struggling with this before.

His were the first two real art books I ever got; I devoured those things.
Stan this is one of the realest videos I've seen you in, your scripted lesson stuff is great but I'd love to see more stuff like this as well!

Wow amazing... so easy.... so fast.. and the glow so easy and I am a rookie with 30 years of drawing behind me so easy.
Lol, I love the far sound, very funny, thank you guys, wonderful to the artists get together and have a fun time .

Another challenge i'd like to see is figurepainting with watercolor, its so impressive what some people can do with that.
Wow....two of my favourite artists in a single video.... this made my day....
It's astonishing what can be done with black, white, and orange. You get the blues, so to speak, by means of simultaneous color contrast.
We need a reunion!!!!! ❤❤❤
Nice people indeed . I had a very good time watching toi painting
JAMES AND PROKO IN THE SAME PLACE? SAME VIDEO? THIS IS A DREAM COME TRUE!!! *passes out*
Make more videos like that Stan, bring other artists like your brother marshall vandraff, please 🥺
Oh wow two of my favorite artists together in one video! So cool! Would love to paint with you someday - come check out Orange County for beautiful scenery and give me a holler. I’ll bring my students along as well!
This is a great video. Reminds me of you and Cesar Santos at the museum. I enjoy these every once and again.
I keep coming back to this video. It’s so much fun and interesting
What a great video! Awesome company! And oh, your painting looks so great. How come such a boring wagon looks so interesting in your art work! Thanks for the video and for instruction notes, Stan 👍🏻
YAY james gurney and proko in a video, two of my fav painters (:
OMG, James Gurney in San Diego? How did I miss this!!!!!
Thanks for the great video.
I "thumbs up"-ed just for the fart noises when extruding your paints from the tubes. 3:46 Oh, and for everything else of course . Love this one!
The ending was really sweet
I think I laughed at every single unfortunate problem in the beginning of this, and I felt kind of bad but that’s also part of what made this so great. =>.
Omg so awesome. Love the way you made it work without the blue too.
I love both channels... serendipitous!
You guys are my two go to artists on youtube! Love your content and I am blowen away that I have just discovered your plen air painting video!! Its a bit funny too cauze I have just started to do plen air paintings myself xD

Thank you to both.
It's really interesting seeing your thought process laid over the video. Very nice :)
i just find it hard to believe at the first place when I saw the RUclips notification of both channels.
I really love both works!
I'm only at 5:00 and this is amazing !!! LOVE IT
I have that same little tin brush cleaner and i hate how it squirts out at you like that when the insert rattles in it haha @4:46
I loved the thing with the palm trees x)
3:21 that "oh shnaps" gave me life
Two very talented people! Enjoyed watching this!

Really enteresting to see how you think about your group of values.
Your mess ups and bleeps were pretty funny I'm glad you kept them in
2 of my favorite atists hanging out together. life is beautiful
greens turned out just fine
Awesome job, guys! BTW when I'm painting on location , the more I get into the painting, the less I'm looking at the original scene. So by the time the sun changes, I'm already Iin my own world...lol
It definitely makes one rethink their painting pallet

So fun! Would love to see you collaborate on a longer instructional video together!
3:51 my inner three year old laughed too hard at this
James is a great guy.
You're a great guy.
This is a great video.
I like the comments about colour, values, etc. Subscribed :)
Two favorite people on the same screen🥰
Why did your making rude noises when squeezing out the paint make me laugh so much!
You make painting such fun!
Turned out pretty good.
He made a Dino model and then he use the model as reference?! Damn, that is thoughtful
I heard that during the start of the tree on the right! lol!
It still freaks me out a little when I can actually reach and talk to people I've highly admired as a kid. It's so trippy.
Yeah! GJ Stan!
that was very interesting, for me that tree was really greenish in shadows
1:11 when you block the sun with titanium white ^^
1:10 I though that was paint without reading it was sunscreen. Thought proko had gone goof for a sec
Loved the video. Would love to know what camera set up you have on your easel?
great stuff, Stan and James together!
very fun video! more like these please!
