Personally I’d rather keep the tie down than worry about the 1 second of noise the tailgate makes when you let it just slam down, but nice to know the option of a tailgate assist is available
You don’t have to lose the tiedown. I plan to keep my tiedown in a Ziploc stored in one of the many cubbies in the vehicle. I’m going to replace the bolts for the tiedown to keep the threads clean and corrosion free. If I have the need to use that tiedown with extra long cargo, it’s less than a minute to remove those bolts, grab the tiedown from my Ziploc, and reattach it. Of course when you get home and get your cargo unloaded don’t be a ham-fisted jerk and swing the tailgate up forgetting to remove the tiedown again. The number of times I anticipate using this tiedown with an open bed maybe once every couple years.
Like the idea of the soft open tailgate. But don’t like the idea of giving up the tie down point. Wonder if there’s clearance to add a small d ring on one of the tie down point/ bottle opener bolts to retain this functionality.

What moron opens a tail gate and lets it drop? Sheesh. I paid a lot of money for my 2022 Lariat and I just lower the tailgate so it doesn't stress the vehicle. It takes a fraction of a second and I save 50 bucks.
I wonder if there is a way to use the bottle opener holes that could be used as a tie-down. That's my biggest reluctance of losing that tie down on the tailgate.
I would like the tailgate assist but I don't want to loose the tiedown. Does anyone know of an alternate installation method that would allow the assist but keep the tiedown?
@@rd1122 I was wondering if this is something that could be done. I am wondering if you could do a second D-Ring on the side as well, as long as it can fold in. I am getting a maverick soon and will definitely be looking into this
The only reason I can think for this is people with disability or for a owners how hates how other people keep slamming down their tailgate without regard.
Imo run a hank of rope out the window and loop one end around the cargo. Hold the other end in your hand whilst u drive. Let your strength do the talking
I agree, the bottle opener is a secondary function. The position of that tiedown is very strategic for holding items at that portion of the bed that matches the other tiedown on the bed. I plan to install this damper and store the tiedown in a Ziploc. I’m going to put the bolts back in the threaded holes with a little bit of anti seize to keep those threads from corroding and keep a small ratchet and bit in that Ziplock too. One time every couple years when I need to use that tiedown, it can be reinstalled and less than a minute and removed again when I get the cargo back home. It’s the best of both worlds, I get the benefit of the damper which I will use on a much more regular basis than the tiedown and when the tiedown is necessary, it’s easy to reinstall.
Is that one strut enough or would it be better to have two. What was the cost of the strut? Love your videos, got the back up bulbs for my Maverick already from Amazon. My maverick is probably two months before delivery but it’s great seeing your improvement videos. Thanks
OR you can get it on Amazon for cheaper
Attach the strut to tailgate first lift the tailgate up attach the strut put the locking pins on and test. Much easier.
Agreed

Why did you reply anyway ?
@@markl2986 so I’m Summary you do lose it.
No more pissed off neighbors. 😂 thanks dude

I ordered my from amazon and they sent the wrong bolts I don't know what I am going to do now or should I say the wrong bolt
Could you tell me what to do with the locking clips please?
I wonder if they make one for the hood??
Mounting the piece to the tailgate was the biggest pain in the ass ever.... took me like an hour LOL
Mine is still not installed. 3 hours.
@@celluloiddroid9384 I swear to god it drove me insane installing it lol
Good info, I installed one of these on my 2003 Dodge Ram. Works great because that tailgate is very heavy.

what kind of the screw driver bit is it?

Wow calm down it’s a tailgate it can slam
What paint color is your Maverick?
Area 51
Cool, but you could also just . . . not let it slam. How heavy could it be?
agreed. You just lower it. I have a Maverick. Its not worth wasting 50 bucks.
Very informative; thank you for sharing
This would be a great mod for my grandma's truck. She's getting old so I don't want her to hurt her wrist.
My tailgate is off center now. I’m not sure if it was like that before though.
Is that a possible side effect of the tailgate assist?
I wonder if there is a way to use the bottle opener holes that could be used as a tie-down. That's my biggest reluctance of losing that tie down on the tailgate.
I'll be checking to see if I can add an o-ring tie down after this. I'll wander to Home Depot isles
Wondering the same. Worst case could just carry a driver and the tie down in the truck and reinstall it anytime you want to make use of the tie down.
Great Idea!!!
Not sure but I believe the tailgate strut is available with other online sellers. There are a few youtube videos showing this installation.

Some owners have installed a single-point mount D-ring tiedown on the bolt opening on the face of the tailgate that's left unused.

You can always reinstall the tie down when you need it. It’s only 2 screws. How long could that take. 🤷🏻♂️
Maybe those Ford Points can be used to Replace / Fix your Rubber part in the top of the cab that's flopping loose. 🤣👍
I like the the tailgate Assist 👍
Does it have the option to attach it to shotgun side instead of driver side.
You mentioned ford pass points. How many points did you for your truck? Just wondering because i am curious about many points i will be getting.
40,000
The strut should have been included with the mount factory painted.
instead of an external strut, one should be made to attach to the hinge internally inside the tailgate.
Looks pretty easy.
I think I'd rather have the tie down for strapping 4'x8' sheet material.
Can you still use multi position tailgate even after installing the assist?
Yes you can
they need to design one where you don't have to remove the tie down
Lots of money to spend on a vehicle to avoid making someone angry :)
Meh, I would rather take a second and slowly lower the tailgate than to lose a bottle owner/tie down spot.
Thanks for the video. Did you think of putting another one on the other side?
No because it’s left hand only and I’ll loose my one and only bottle opener 😂
😂 awesome! Thanks!
Does it help when you lift it up as well?
No.
Never understood the need for a dampened tailgate. Kinda seems silly, but more power to y’a man do your thing.
Been opening manual tailgates without assist for years, this mod makes no sense to me at all.
Exactly. Not only that but the tailgate is light compared to most trucks. Absolutely no need to let it slam down like a moron either.
The only reason I can think for this is people with disability or for a owners how hates how other people keep slamming down their tailgate without regard.
Damn people have gotten so lazy they need tailgate assist to let it down
Tell me you are a boomer without telling me you are a boomer
You are losing more than a bottle opener, that piece you took off is primarily a tiedown point for items extending past the tailgate. (when it's down)
Imo run a hank of rope out the window and loop one end around the cargo. Hold the other end in your hand whilst u drive. Let your strength do the talking

Looks like you had enough room to leave the bottle cap opener no?
The problem is when the gate is closed
